If you want something extra bitter and strong, also try the oolong cappuccino. Just one warning: do not expect to customize with different syrups. I walked in and ordered an iced latte. Whenever I try a new coffee shop, I usually order a vanilla latte , it's my unofficial benchmark for comparing places. They don't offer sweeteners here, so I went without. That's totally fine, not every place does, but the way it was communicated felt dismissive. The person behind the counter wasn't exactly friendly and almost seemed to scoff at the request. My latte was $7, which I've come to accept as the going rate these days. I wasn't asked what size I wanted, so I assumed there was just one option. When my drink came out, it was SO tiny. All that for $7... and served with attitude? Goodness. Tiny coffee shop in the heights which specializes in various coffees from around the world. I am not sure how they decide on which coffee blend they are going to use to brew your beverage with but the day we went they were really in the weeds. There was only one person manning the shop. He was out of cups and saucers to serve for in house so everything was being served in to go containers. They have their pastries from Magnol so if you're a fan you must get those before they are gone! I wanted to get the opera cake but unfortunately it was super busy in there and I didn't want to take it to go. As the coffee shop is kind of small there were no empty seats when we arrived. In fact the parking lot is also very small so you will have to either get lucky to find parking or you can just park on the street nearby. Make sure to read the signs to avoid getting towed. As far as my latte goes I really liked it. The inside is very modern with large windows and lots of natural light. I would like to come back and try the other things. I found this spot on Yelp and was intrigued by some reviews that had mentioned getting authentic matcha from this cafe. I've been on an adventure to try matcha from as many spots in Houston as possible, so I decided to give this place a try. I tried visiting a couple of times, but it was never open when I wanted to check it out. I eventually ended up in the area and decided to stop by. There is some parking available adjacent and behind the building. My first impression of the space was that it was narrow but well lit, with lots of natural light. When ordering, I double checked the menu and noticed that "matcha" doesn't stand out on the menu; coffee's definitely the primary focus. There were two matcha types listed, and I ordered an Iced Uji Matcha. When my drink was handed to me, I noticed how small it was. I hadn't asked about the size when ordering, and assumed it would be a standard 12oz drink. Given that I paid $10.20, I was extremely disappointed at how small my drink was. While the matcha tasted authentic, the color was very light and the flavor was quite mild. I wouldn't recommend this spot to anyone specifically looking for matcha. Even with authentic powder being used, it's hard to justify that price for such a small iced matcha. There's other places in Houston that offer authentic matcha at a much better value per cup. Also, the matcha at this location comes with an espresso shot, which I opted out of. This specialty coffee shop has been on my list for two years and I was finally able to come in while in the area during a weekend. They have a small parking lot but I went around the end of their weekend hours and got a spot quickly. I ordered the Panama Kotowa Estate "Kool Reserva" pourover as a 9 oz and if you like third wave coffee, you'll love this (or frankly any of their pourovers). They have a small sign near their menu that says they don't offer additives to their coffees (i.e., no milks and syrups) and I completely understand why. read more

I already had coffee in the morning but I got a croissant and omg it was the best croissant i've had in a while!! It was super warm, flaky, buttery, and had so many layers. I am still thinking about that croissant as I am typing this. Their other pastries looked super good as well!! My friend got an Iced Matcha Latte with Uji. Simply Coffee is simply the best (pourover) coffee. This Asian owned, modern coffee shop in the Heights is beautiful with lots of natural lighting. The only downside to coming here is their very small parking lot, but if you're lucky enough to get a spot, it is very much worth coming here. What sets them apart is their attention to detail. You can tell they are very knowledgeable about the coffee they serve, and they make it to the absolute best of their ability. Just note that Simply Coffie is named that for a reason. Don't come here expecting your sweet syrups and flavorings that you would get at other coffee shops. Here they focus on the simple quality of the perfectly roasted beans. We were in the area so dropped by. As of November 22nd, 24th Street, where the entrance is located, is currently under construction. It's now one way only and you can only enter from Durham. When you drive in, there's a handful of places you can parallel park and it's one way only where there's maybe 3-4 more non-parallel parking spots before it winds around the 2 story building and empties you back into Durham. Basically: parking can be tight right now, but I imagine that is a regular thing even before construction. I know someone else mentioned street parking, but it's not possible right now with road work. I admit I don't prefer parallel parking, but I guess it's good practice. As soon as you walk in, it's all aesthetics. Place was minimalist and modern in decor but also warm. Conversations in soft tones. Beautiful mugs and these odd straws - transparent tan with specks of something - they're "veggie straws", but not the edible kind! I loved it though. When used, just lightly textured and otherwise feels like plastic - but it's not. I had my 3 year old with me and my friend and we were very out of place. However, the staff didn't seem all that put off or unwelcoming, though their menu is very much not kid friendly. The place in general seemed to scream "don't touch, not meant to be played with." They focus on good coffee (think single origin) and good ingredients. Don't expect any flavored syrups! They have one item on there by the name of "COCOA MILK" ($6). I asked if it was kid friendly and the "no" came quickly. They said there wasn't any artificial sugar and something about using the best cocoa. The fruit was mentioned, so I was expecting milk flavored with the cocoa FRUIT, which I have had before and liked. I got it for my kid anyway. It tasted like really nice, dark chocolate milk. It borders on bittersweet and I enjoyed it. So did my 3 year old. I attribute it to the fact that he likes dark chocolate. The best part - not very sweet! For myself, I got the Matcha Latte ($7.50) made with Uji matcha. I admit I don't know much about matcha - only that I like it - but they are very helpful if you have any questions. They serve 2 types of Matcha and I cannot remember the name of the other but they had mentioned it being bright but Uji was more earthy and traditional, so I picked it. It's a "shot" of matcha with whole milk (or oat milk) and a shot of espresso. I did like it quite a bit. Not too bitter, not sweet. Perfection. I sometimes get a headache with more than one serving of caffeine a day, but had no issues on this day (a Friday, after lunch pick me up). I had a latte that morning. To round it off, I ordered a Basque Cheesecake ($8.50) to share. Yum! It's not as creamy as other Basque cheesecakes I've had, but it was still decadently delicious and the caramelization from the browned-bordering-on-burnt top is quintessential for this type of cheesecake. They also have some bagged coffee and coffee-related items for purchase in the back. Despite the building being 2 stories, I don't believe a second floor is open. Even with the limited parking, almost all the tables were full. Most were there to work but a few, myself included, were there for a break/chat. Coffee purists - FLOCK HERE. Yay for another coffee place in town! It's located in the Greater Heights (24th St). It is a splendid spot on its own. Some architectural design, really. The inside reflects the same. Modern, yet minimalist. It is also Taiwanese owned, which adds on a unique character. I was a bit confused on what to order. The wall displays some by not the type of coffees they serve. Now browsing around, I noticed only now they did have a menu, but I wasn't offered to review it. I asked for my usual cappuccino, but this time I remember its really smooth taste from a precise and full of attention pour. I watched the owner really showing care for what he does and somehow, that adds a different feel for it. Even the cups are different. Water is from a purified machine and I enjoyed it. On a weekday afternoon, seating was limited. I took the high chair in the corner facing the street, and I'm satisfied to be able to car/traffic watch for a change. Parking is very limited. Their space only offered no more than 8 or 10 I believe, so gotta rely on street parking too. In the back, they display various coffee making tools and beans in a soft lighting. I want my living room to be like theirs, lol. They seem to have a 2nd floor too but I'm not sure whether it's private or not. The design overall is intriguing. This place roasts lighter than the 3rd wave craft coffee roasters nearby (ex. Boomtown, Tenfold, Greenway). I think some would consider this a "Nordic" roast, as this style of roasting is best able to bring out the desired flavor characteristics if you're a coffee professional. But to me (and I stress this is personal preference), this lacks the roast & body that I want in my coffees. This place reminds me of Simple Kaffa in Taipei: Extremely high ratings, but at the end of the day, it's just not for me. The coffee tastes like it has a ground to water ratio of 25:1 instead of 15:1, even if that may not be the case. This honestly feels like a qualitatively different style of coffee, so if your expectations are anchored to a local roaster like Blend-in, Catalina, or Pearland, then you might find this too light. It feels like I'm drinking a tea, rather than a coffee. But if you regularly participate in coffee roasting competitions, this place might be amazing. The service was extremely friendly, and they were very knowledgeable about the product, which I love to see. The ambiance was great as the space is beautiful and has great natural light. read more

There's plenty of comfortable seating with lots of plugs. It was not too crowded on a Friday afternoon so it would be a good place to go and get some work done. There is also a small parking lot behind the building. They seem to be a fancier coffee shop as they do not offer decaf or extra sweetener/syrup options. The employees were nice and apparently offer variety of desserts during day time (I went late afternoon time, so only basque cheesecake was available). Seatings are comfortable for long period of sitting and great for studying as well (not too loud). The only downside for me was that their single origin coffee were on acidic/sour side for my taste. This one has a aftertaste with a hint of toffee. No syrup. Just perfect brewing technique and quality beans. It was soooooo delicious. Simply Coffie specializes - and I do mean specializes - in their pour over game. I enjoyed every drop of coffee I've had here, including the iced pour over! It is artistic, delicious, and technical. Please be aware that pour overs take time - and it's worth it. But just know that hand-brewed coffee takes at least five minutes if no one else is ahead of you! So get comfy and come off-peak. Parking is available, but scarce, so plan ahead to look around in case their small amount of spaces are full. Some street parking is available across the road.
