I've really enjoyed coming to this location, and the food has always been great. Unfortunately, the only reason I hesitate is because of the parking policy. On my last visit, I parked in one of the 5-minute pickup spaces because I was just grabbing my order. After I picked it up, I decided to sit inside the store and eat my oatmeal before leaving. I was only going to be there for another two or three minutes, so my total time would have been less than five minutes. Even though two regular parking spaces were available at the time, an employee came up to me and asked me to move my car immediately. I understand that parking rules exist, but customer service should also allow for a little common sense and flexibility. I wasn't taking up the space for long, and the availability of those two regular spaces made the request feel unnecessary. Instead of feeling welcomed, I felt uncomfortable and rushed. It's disappointing because I really like this place, but experiences like this make me less likely to return. Not good for working!! While there's a good amount of seating space, most of which is for lounging - meaning that there's not a "desk height" table for use near it. Tons of couches and chairs circled around short coffee tables, though. Plus, they only give you the WiFi password if you buy something, HOWEVER it only last for 2 hours.... So if you're planning to spend the day here working, plan to buy something every 2 hours to keep getting a new WiFi code. I found this out the hard way and I've never been back. read more

I really wanted to like this place, but I kinda just don't. The drinks are ok, nothing amazing. It looks really cozy inside, but the couches are not comfortable at all. Parking is tricky, it's best to try to find a spot on the street because the parking lot is really difficult to maneuver in, even if you happen to get a spot there. The service is so variable, and the last time I was in, the worker who took my order kept forgetting in a span of less than 5 minutes what I ordered, and I had to correct them a couple times. Dairy makes me pretty sick and I really dislike feeling like I have to watch someone making my drink the whole time, so I probably wouldn't return at this point. read more

I've never left a yelp review but I felt compelled given just how rude their manager/owner is. I was meeting a colleague for a coffee and got there before him. While I was waiting, the manager/owner yelled at a couple with two kids for parking in the wrong spot (apparently there are to-go only spots). It was loud enough I could hear it through my airpods and while it looked like the couple did park in a to-go spot the manager/owner was so rude and unnecessarily angry. The kids were under 5 and you could see they were nervous and scared. As a father I found it abhorrent. Shortly after my colleague arrived and sat down to say hi before ordering. The same manager/owner walked over and told him within 1 mins of him sitting down if he didn't order he had to leave. When I explained she told me that I could leave also if I was going to talk back. I say this with empathy not anger but I hope she gets the help she clearly deeply needs. The coffee was fine (although I was upcharged $1.25 for asking for a splash of oat milk..that was quite annoying) It's been a few weeks and her behavior is still upsetting to me. We did end up leaving and having coffee nearby at a place called the Asch building which was very pleasant and honestly I thought the coffee was better. Coffee is mid, service is mid, but it's still a Heights staple all the same. They recently added matcha (tip: stick to the coffee). There's been a recent trend of smokers (yes, actual cigarettes, I too did not know people still did that) hanging out for hours on the patio. Real nasty vibe-killer. Update after 4 years: I've bought coffee here every month for nearly 4 years because the bean brand they use (Big Bend) are excellent. Sadly, I strongly advise against Antidote particularly if you have kids: 1. The owner is shockingly rude: She's been rude to me, my wife, my sister, and a close friend - not to mention yelling at staff. The energy can be very hostile, even if grabbing a to-go order. At first, I thought she was just a manager having bad days and almost found it amusing. I was shocked to learn she's the owner. I half expected Gordon Ramsey to pop out every time she was yelling at a customer or staff member. 2. Parking is a trap: There are only a few spots, and the owner routinely calls tow trucks on people taking too long. I get that parking is tight - but most of the time customers were waiting for drinks or moving slowly like any other coffee shop. The yelling really kills the atmosphere. 3. Bizarre sit-in rules: My pregnant wife was asked to leave for not ordering a drink (I had). We explained she's pregnant, and she said that was our problem not hers. I've seen others pressured to buy more or leave after 30 minutes - especially if they have a laptop. 4. You can't work here: The Wi-Fi rarely works, and cell service inside is usually too weak to even hotspot. I've tried every year - it's just not a functional space. 5. The owner's bad reputation is no secret: I've had multiple neighbors and colleagues share similar experiences. Apparently she's known in the Heights for being aggressive even in front of young kids. One neighbor joked, "You're not really from here until she's yelled at someone in your family." I don't find it funny, it's quite upsetting. After her last outburst in front of my kids it isn't a place I would feel safe anymore. TLDR: The owner has anger management issues which when combined with a lack of parking & no WiFi make this sadly a strong avoid. If you want great coffee nearby, I recommend either Active Passion or the Asch Building a few blocks away - they also have stable Wi-Fi, friendly service, and are great for families. read more

We started our ACL trip with fuel for the journey. I had never been, but it's a favorite of the H-Town crowd, and my friends in particular. Worth the hype, in my nobody-asked-for-it-opinion. The staff was very friendly. I have developed a habit of asking the staff what they like on the menu, and why. The pros should know right? Well, they did not disappoint. I did their cold brew with cajeta and oat milk. Cajeta is a thickened caramel made of sweetened caramelised goat's milk. It was fantastic!!! Frequented this coffee shop for months... got the feel of a relaxed environment, decent coffee, and space to work... Unfortunately, any time I've been there (as a paying respectable customer) the owner has been EXTREMELY unkind, not welcoming, and unfriendly. She made intimidating faces at me for a few mins of sitting, and I had the self realization that it was because I had a Stanley for water and hadn't ordered anything yet... I had all intentions of grabbing a coffee and a scone- I do so every visit... after ordering, she approached me to quickly move the tables apart "in case anyone else needed a table". I pulled the small section tables together because I was expecting a guest... I told the guest to not come and we soon changed locations. I understand every experience is different, but I've decided to not visit any longer because of my experiences with ownership. Another great coffeehouse in the grand Houston tradition! Antidote features high ceilings with ceiling fans, exposed cinder block walls, lots of quirky local art, free local newspapers, and several cozy sofas. The menu was a little limited, but I got a flat white and a vanilla steamer and both were smooth and delicious. The place is right next to a sketchy looking convenience store and the sidewalk patio was full of neighborhood folks who'd walked over with their dogs. I always love trying new coffee shops and hadn't been to a new one in awhile, so when we found Antidote, we were super excited to check it out! Nestled in between a tiny bar and a gas station, this seems like a mom and pop, locally owned coffee shop. Attracting older artists and young millennials alike, you'll be greeted with a small ordering counter with a simple but least of all understated coffee menu, and then an adjoined room that offers cozy sofas and chairs to drink your coffee and study, listen to music, or enjoy a coffee date with your boo. Also, perfect for students who need a quiet place to study... I ordered the Cajeta latte which is a milky creamy blend of caramel and milk, and the hubs ordered a mocha latte. I loved the sort of soothing, slightly sweet and foamy texture of my coffee. Not too sweet, yet packed with high quality coffee flavor. Home to the Heights neighborhood and located off of Studewood street, the place from the outside seems a bit intimidating but once you go inside, the vibe is definitely there! I appreciated and loved that they were only letting two people inside to order at a time and provided hand sanitizer at every table and coffee table. This Heights location is the sister coffee shop of Blackhole Coffee in Montrose. So they get their food and baked goods from there. You can heat up items in the microwave by the indoor seating area. There's also outdoor seating -think backyard patio. Cute and quaint. They sell a small assortment of grocery items and the normal coffee lineup (as well as a few unique blends like lavender and rose). Tried their specialty coffee, which is cajeta latte. The flavor is really good. Enjoyed it and would get it again. Majority of their baked goods come from their sister store, Black hole coffee. They sell other cold beverages like kombucha, smoothies, etc. There is seating outdoors and some have umbrellas. It does get cold inside. They provide free water. There's also a toaster and microwave. The wifi speed is decent. It does buffer a little bit if streaming (e.g. Spotify) but not if you're just browsing the Web. If you need wifi for more than an hour, you'll need to buy another item I think. The wifi expires after 1 hour, which sucks. Parking in front is limited like other reviewers mentioned. read more

I went to antidote to study and it's a nice quiet environment. It has a few parking spaces in front of the building and a few on the street to the side. Not many tables, so during the busy hours it can be hard to find a spot. There are a few outlets along the walls. I had the nitro cold brew which was very smooth and refreshing.
