There was a live guitarist, cozy lounge seating, and beautiful views of downtown through the windows. Food was good: The shrimp skillet was flavorful (my partner ordered it again) I had the smash burger--good, but definitely a lot of food (two patties caught me off guard) They did miss my request to leave off the spicy relish, though it didn't ruin the dish The biggest issue was the gnats/fruit flies in the lounge area. I dined here two days in a row. The food was all right, but the service was poor and it didn't look like a single person there wanted to be there. This is a captive restaurant, but you should at least nail it on either food or the service. I left my table as briefly as one could to wash my hands after ordering. It should've been obvious what was going on since I just ordered, but to be safe, I left my napkin over the back of my chair to more clearly communicate that I would return. When I returned 1 minute later, my place was cleared and, apparently, they also cleared my order since the waitress had no idea to which table it belonged when it was made. After adding a tip to the check and signing it, I noticed a tip had already been added. Why? I've had about 600 nights at Marriott properties, and have never had a tip auto-added for a party of one. Curiously, the second morning I dined, a tip wasn't automatically applied. As I left the restaurant, the host at the stand, who did not appear to be engaged with anyone or anything, successfully ignored me. The second morning the hostess sat me at a bench whose food debris hadn't been wiped from the last party. I wiped the food off with my hands (yuk). She saw but didn't seem to care. Very promptly after taking my order, she left me the check. I appreciate that so it doesn't waste my time at the end, so I promptly signed the check and placed it hanging over the other side of the table to clearly communicate that it was taken care of. It's remained there the entire meal. Even when my food was served, it was still left there. During my meal, another server brought me a tea pot, which I didn't order. She was uncertain if it belonged to me so she silently stared at me with the teapot. I think she was trying to communicate, "does this belong to you?" She should be using her words so I didn't say anything. presuming she would. After too awkward of a silence I said, "that's not my tea." She grunted (or muttered a single unintelligible syllable) and served it to another table. Not only does it seem like none of the staff received service training, but not a single team member did anything that most restaurants do to make someone feel welcome or want to return. As a platinum, I had a breakfast voucher for my third morning, but gave it to a friend as I went elsewhere for breakfast. read more

Food: below meh. I love bbq. I cook bbq often. The brisket on their sandwich had zero flavor, obviously wasn't smoked, sliced the wrong way so the bites were chewy. Hot Mess. Ambiance was ok. Very loud but again, cheerleading comp that weekend. Not really sure it would be much better on a different day though to be honest. H&O is located inside The Laura Hotel. For the OG HTX Elites, this hotel used to be the Hotel Alessandra where we had a YEE years ago. You can enter from the street level or from the Greenstreet Complex on the 2nd floor. The restaurant is located on the second floor next to the reception area. When I walked up to the host stand, they asked me to go to the hotel bar area to order. The bar was pretty busy. The bar manager, Joe was bartending and he was doing his best to keep up with the drink orders. There were a few servers wandering around, but it appeared they were short staffed. Joe did apologize for the slow service which we appreciated. Drinks: Garden of Eden - I really enjoyed this cocktail because of the cucumber. It was very refreshing! Sip Pink - It was good, but sweeter than the Garden of Eden. Basil Leaf Us Hanging - My bff ordered this mocktail and she liked it. Food: Deviled Eggs - Spectacular! I loved the black truffles. The spicy peppers were a bit too hot, but the flavors complimented each other well. Brussels Sprouts - They had a nice char and were tasty. Seared Salmon Filet - This dish was good. It came with mashed potatoes and a Creole piperade. Collard Greens - Nice flavor and the portion was huge! We ordered two bowls because the server said the bowl was small, but one portion would have been plenty. Jambalaya Rice - My bff ordered this, but I didn't try any. On my second visit, we went straight to the hotel bar. Sandy was our server but other employees checked on us too. Drinks: Velvet Dream - This drink reminded me of a lavender flavored Clover Club. It was good. Basil Leaf us Hanging - My friend ordered this with mint instead of basil, however it looked different from the one that my bestie ordered. When I looked at the receipt, I noticed that it said Burning Bush instead of Basil Leaf Us Hanging. At any rate, my friend enjoyed her mocktail. I don't usually leave negative reviews, but this visit was really disappointing. It took an extremely long time to get two simple sandwiches. When the food finally came out, my salmon sandwich had no salmon in it. My girlfriend's bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich was huge, but it only had two tiny pieces of bacon inside, which was just disappointing. The food itself tasted mediocre. To make things worse, there was hair in my fruit bowl, which completely ruined the meal for me. The server mentioned that there were only two people working in the kitchen on Valentine's morning. I understand that staffing can be tough, but that's something management should anticipate on a busy holiday. Overall, between the long wait, the incorrect food, and the hygiene issue, it wasn't a good experience and we won't be returning. read more

I had been looking forward to trying this place out for a few weeks. We finally decided to go and I was underwhelmed. There appeared to be one server taking orders. It took her about 8 minutes before she finally came over. We got coffee, my husband asked for honey for his coffee. She kept forgetting. We asked her 3 times. She was apologetic but it was clear she had too many tables. We didn't have forks on the table and when she finally brought our food, my waffle was cold. My husband never received his toast, and we had to ask for forks again. The flavor of the peaches and creme waffle was good but since it was cold, it wasn't as enjoyable. When it was time to pay, we waited for her to return to take the payment and because she was so busy, we had to ask the hostess to take our payment. The gentleman that greeted us was very friendly and asked us how it was and we shared this with him verbally. He said he would communicate it with management....not sure if he did. A $63 meal ....and an experience we did not enjoy. We will not be back to Hull & Oak. Maybe this was just an off day....the server was trying to manage all the tables..about 8 by herself. We stated to Laura for a weekend and it's such a beautiful hotel and that is where this restaurant was located. We stopped by for breakfast the morning of our departure leaving downtown. He was such a cute ambience. Inside of the restaurant very small. Nothing huge the decor and tables were just delightful. The portions are made to be smaller but they are still very filling. The service was wonderful and very accommodating. I first noticed the decor which reminded me of Tiffany's. Everything was color coordinated to create a high end luxe feel. From the plates to the table tops there was obvious thought put into the design. We ordered the lunch specials which included any starter, entree and choice of dessert. While it was priced about $25 it was a great deal. Portions were too large for us to finish so you could probably share one or take home leftovers. Our waiter, Christian, was very friendly and attentive. While we were there several large business parties came in without a reservation and the staff quickly moved tables to accommodate them. This did slow service significantly but Christian never seemed overly flustered. Everything we had was delicious. Those little red tomato things (not sure what they are called) were very flavorful. A signature added touch in both dishes. Our total with 20% tip was $67. A bit pricey for lunch but not if you are looking for an upscale experience with delicious food, presented either a pleasing, appetizing esthetic. read more
