Las Perras café is a great study spot with plenty of seating and space. The furniture and decor along with the entire layout of the space is very visually pleasing. I had visited a nearby business and wanted to give this place a go. The parking situation isn't great, but there is street parking in the area for those that may not be on foot. Vibe/Decor - 4.5* The storefront is cool, nice entryway and gives a chill vibe. Stepping in it's a bit boutique and free space for studying and chilling, with some music in the background. They have a panty near the door for those in need who want water and snacks, which is a great cause, but sadly I watched it be abused in the short time I was here. The intent is, come in, take what you need, within reason, don't clear it out essentially. Well, I watched a lady load up her bag with snacks and water. It wasn't what I'd subjectively view as "fair." They have some TVs around that at this visit had the World Cup on and there was a nice setup for buying some jerseys if you wanted. Overall, I enjoyed the setup and witnessed plenty of people reading or studying. Food / Drink - 2* They offer some bites and coffee drinks, which is obviously what many are likely visiting for. I ordered an Iced Black Sesame Latte, which also had a black sesame cold foam. The disappointing part, it was nothing to write home about. Maybe I'm a harsh critic here since I make my own Black Sesame simple syrup at home. That said, I did have the person with me try it who has tried my sesame lattes tell me they thought mine were better. I thought, well, maybe I'll get something else if I come back. Service - 2* I can only speak to my personal experience, but when I walked in, multiple people stared at me, as if I was an alien or unwelcome here, it was odd and uncomfortable. I approached the counter to order, asking a couple of questions, which were answered, albeit probably not as anyone would define as "warmly." Now, once ordered, it took longer than one would expect given how few orders were ahead of mine. I was in no rush, but I did witness the gentleman in front of me who was wearing a local business' shirt, seem to pace and anxiously wait. Cost - 1* Anyone who reads my reviews knows I preface this with, always subjective, but it's been awhile since I walked into a place and nearly walked out on pricing alone. That said, I wanted to see if the coffee was worth it at $9+ bucks. Sadly, it is not, particularly when paired with the pace of service. Overall - 2* This is one that I think has a lot of potential, but it just misses on fundamental marks for a coffee shop. At the end of the day, it's a cool vibe and I could see plenty of people wanting to relax here, but in a city, and even area, that has plenty of options, this one is worth skipping. Average coffee, subpar service, and poor pricing. I will not be returning, but hey, I'm only one review and opinion so if you're in the area, maybe your experience will be different. read more

I just adore this spot! Had the oolong peach today and it was so delicious! The perfect balance of sweet but not too sweet with a hint of jasmine and plenty of peach flavor. Love the art on the walls, and love all the community events they do, and their values, like having the community pantry. Haven't tried much of their food yet, but the concha bread pudding was top notch. Service is fast and friendly too. The staff were very patient in explaining the options. I had two things here that I've never tried before and they blew my mind. One was the mango sago and the other was an iced jamaica mint tea. Usually one is better than the other but they were equally good and complimented each other well. I ordered them to go and got to take in the interior of the establishment and it is beautifully decorated. I was greeted as I approached the counter and was apologized to for a slight wait although I didn't mind. (They were busy) I'm looking forward to my next visits! Las Perras Cafe pays homage to female leaders and activists-with beverages named after Dolores Huerta, Angela Davis, and Alma Negra. Love supporting women- and Latina-owned businesses, and Las Perras is another added to my list. So, I finally treated myself to Las Perras again since their big grand opening this spring (it was incredibly busy that day and I don't think it was fair to review that experience since it wasn't a typical one). This time, I got a banana matcha-hot. And I brought my own to-go cup (tryna to cut back on single-use plastics). It was good, not too sweet per my request. They have a lovely setup of tables and nooks flanked my plants and beautiful wall art. Outside, there's a spacious gravel patio with a Dominican (and woman-owned) food truck, Flor Y Miel. read more

I got the earth day matcha and my friend got a matcha with oatmilk and vanilla. Their matcha was very good but our drinks didn't taste sweet at all. Luckily the barista gave us some extra syrup on the side and then it was perfect! She was also helpful answering all our questions about the menu. I hate sounding harsh when reviewing a small business, but their prices are pretty bougie here considering it's still the 2nd ward and there was a street person wandering around and yelling to himself & trying car doors in the back parking lot. To be clear, I'm not besmirching EADO or the 2nd Ward and am aware of the history and the changes that have been made in recent years, but just pointing out that it doesn't command Highland Village pricing- actually regular coffee and hot tea is cheaper in those places. Now if the coffee was good (like on Twin Peaks when Agent Cooper takes a sip) I wouldn't have even brought up the price but it was average at best. I noticed they had some more craft type drinks, and it would have been nice to get a friendly greeting and offered some suggestions but there was none of that there either so I just went with the drip coffee which usually tells you where they stand on their coffee. Anyway, the place does have its charm and I really hope that this area will reach a point where it can be up there with the best neighborhoods but I have to be honest with the reviews and will update it after my next visit. read more

Honey matcha w/pistachio milk - 10/10 - Best honey matcha ive had and matcha was strong Banana matcha w/vanilla cold foam - 8/10 - Matcha was so good but barely had banana flavor Gingerbread latte w/pumpkin cold foam - 6.5/10 - Foam was good but coffee had a sour taste, and didnt taste like gingerbread Maple pecan latte w/pistachio milk - 7/10 - More on the bitter side, i liked the bits of pecan but didnt taste much like maple Hot cocoa - 9.5/10 - Loved the spices in this Gingerbread cookie - 7/10 - Kinda hard but gingerbread flavor was nice and lightly sweet Pumpkin concha - 8/10 - Soft and moist with a nice coating but didnt taste much like pumpkin Las Perras has some really good matcha so if youre in the area, stop by to try it! Came for a run club they are hosting! The inside is such a vibe. I will say when I walked through the doors, no one said their greetings. I ordered the iced Jamaica, which was super refreshing and not too sweet! Also a bonus was a $2 discount because it was happy hour! Lots of comfortable seating. Parking is not great, but there is street parking nearby. I parked along Sampson street, and it was a very short walk. read more

Love this cafe! We have been wanting to come check this place out for a while. Finding it in Instagram it did not disappoint trying their drinks. The drinks were delivered fast and the customer service was nice. Andrea, the owner, was very welcoming and we chatted briefly about the advocacy and the community engagement they have in the store. I enjoy the atmosphere and the drinks! I've been coming here since last year, and there are several employees who are very rude. There's a couple employees who give great customer service! I literally had one of the same rude employees drop off a to go box I asked for down the counter. She proceeded to walk right up to me where I had originally asked her for the to go box and leaned over the counter to continue texting on her phone. I was prepared to say thank you but was pretty shocked to see her response. I had to walk down the counter to pick up the box she could have given to me in my hand especially since she ended up right in front of me anyway. It was as if I was bothering her, after I tipped two of the employees 20%. I'm like... really turned off by the service of several of the girls there. I don't take it personal. It's beginning to make me uncomfortable which is sad because I usually frequent this place once a week. But not sure anymore. Might go to Segundos Cafe instead. read more

The atmosphere at Las Perras Cafe is fantastic. There are several different places to sit snd enjoy your coffee. The owner was very welcoming and she patiently explained what the drink I asked about was made. I love cold coffee and ordered the Espresso Mocktini. It was amazing - best cold coffee I've had ever! It's made with dark chocolate and brut cocoa, oat milk and espresso. My daughter ordered the macha latte with oat milk and brown sugar syrup. She said it was the best also and better than Starbucks by far. We are definitely coming back. We're only sad we live so far away, but the hour drive was definitely worth it. read more
