I've been here a few times some mornings and evening. It's my go-to spot when I want to be productive and enjoy the vibe. There is plenty of seating indoor and outdoor, which is great because this spot is quite popular. They have two small lots but also plenty of street parking. There's WiFi and outlets throughout, however sometimes the WiFi gets too crowded so it takes a while to connect. Be mindful that you can work anywhere except for the bar. The service is great, they text you when your order is ready and they even say your name in a singsong way lol. I like that they have a new seasonal flavor to try each time I come. I usually get a chai or matcha with whatever the new flavor is. They have ice cold water as well. I typically make my own breakfast tacos when I come here and they're always pretty good. LOVE their fries! It's funny that some of the people that work there will remember you by your order. When I bring others, they enjoy the food. There's a bar inside, loft area for more seating, area in the back with some tables, tables outside, cubicles, and more tables spread out. They had so many drinks to choose from and some food. I liked the variety of things they had to offer and I think I even saw a window for people sitting outside to order at. I only tried a couple of drinks. The first one I tried was the matcha average mule and I guess if you like Moscow mules you would enjoy this. I didn't really find the matcha flavor strong or there at all. It had a lot of the lime flavor more than anything else. The other drink I tried was the pretty in pina which is basically a pina colada. That drink was my favorite amongst the two. Did someone say they need a cute meet cute? Well look no further Brass Tracks is where you want to be! I had the pleasure of working from there today with one of my coworkers. And cheers to us for having a IRL meet up! I loved all of the plants that were around. There is a full bar with yummy food items on the menu. For breakfast we started with two toasted blue berry muffins, a latte and I had the seasonal pistachio honey matcha that was sooooo good! Then for lunch we had tacos. Not pictured are shrimp tacos and I had the beef tacos that were surprisingly really good for a taco snob like myself. Lastly, it was happy hour we had two matcha mules (hold the matcha). They were very tasty and the barista/mixologist knew exactly what they were doing! The customer service was a 10/10! I do wish that the bathrooms could use a little more love with have an air freshener in there as well as a wipe down of the sink because it was water every where. I had this pbj and bacon sandwich that I enjoyed! It was sweet and savory. I also had a Thai tea which was very flavorful. I would order again. They had cocktails on the menu as well, but I didn't do any drinking this day. This place is really cute on the inside and outside. I didn't spend much time inside except to order because I was with a larger group so we sat outside. However, both inside and outside were very nice. Outside was a bit more chill and the inside was a bit more lively. The service was great, but I had to order inside and they don't bring you your food if you're outside or at least they didn't that day. So I had to go back in and check to see if my food is ready. The parking is OK. I went on a weekday and I was lucky to find a spot in the lot, but some of the people I was with had to park down the street. I would return. This place is the spot to be on any day of the week in Houston. They have plenty of indoor and outdoor seating with a lively hipster environment that feels organic and welcoming. The staff and baristas are all very friendly and knowledgeable in their fields. I had the pleasure of ordering with Emily A. and she was super sweet. The prices are fair for the portions and quality of flavors that are provided. I love that there are people of all walks of life at this place and it somehow still feels intimate and inviting. The blueberry muffin latte was out of this world flavorful and had blueberry muffin crumbs on top as a garnish that settled well the drink itself. The sweet potato fries are fairly seasoned and cooked to the perfect level of crunchy and soft texture. I haven't been to Brass Tacks in more than a year, but I met a former colleague and friend for a coffee and connect, and forgot how much I enjoy it there. It's great for meetings, coworking, or just solo sipping and people watching. I'm on a weird anti-inflammatory Paleo diet right now, and was pleased to see I was still able to order a coconut milk matcha, a side of smoked salmon, and a side of sliced avocado to round out my morning brekkie. This was a round 2 visit for us! Ordering, I believe someone was training so we had 2 people helping us. They both were so incredibly nice. I saw a seasonal drink made with chai, wanted it with matcha which they allowed and it was perfect. Only thing I might recommend is a little less matcha powder being used as it had a bit of a mouthfeel to it. But the flavor was there the quality was THERE. My husband got a patty melt and oh my gosh it was perfect it was hot and melty. We loved it. I got the breakfast taco but I got the egg cheese and bacon this time, last time I got potato and something else and my potato's were cold. I will say I think the tacos maybe just need to be thrown on the grill or something hahaha my bacon wasn't hot but my eggs were! So I'm sure the ingredients are prepped like in any kitchen, but they need some heating and this would go from a 8/10 to a 10/10. Salsa was great too. Flavor was there. We will be back. 100%. Brass Tacks is by far my favorite coffee shop in Houston! It's a staple spot for University of Houston students since it's only about 10 minutes away from campus. But I still come back and show this spot to friends who visit even after graduating. The vibes are honestly just amazing here and there's plenty of natural lighting. I love that there's PLENTY of really delicious food options offered. (This helped with the long study days I'd spend here.) I love their breakfast hammich, pancake balls, and chicken quesadillas (beef quesadillas were okay but not my fav). I've enjoyed their London fog and chai. I most recently tried their iced sugar-free vanilla latte with whole milk, which wasn't my personal fav because it was overly sweet, but my family liked it. There's plenty of seating available throughout the two stories, but it can get packed really fast. Sometimes it can be tough to find a spot to sit at, so you may need to share with other people at the large tables. It can also get loud here, but nothing that some noise cancelling headphones can't fix. The wifi can be a little spotty, so sometimes I've had to use my hotspot. There are two small parking lots available, but those can get full pretty quickly throughout the day. Thankfully, street parking isn't too difficult in the closeby neighborhoods. Spent the day working remote at brass tacks and I got to try more of their food menu! They currently have seasonal fall drinks as well and I tried out the cinnamon roll matcha! The matcha here usually never disappoints and isn't too strong or watery. The cinnamon roll made it taste like cereal milk and matcha which was definitely not a bad touch. The breakfast taco was great, I liked the salsa they used, and the chicken gyro was also great. I'd say both food items were seasoned great and the perfect moisture. This is one of those coffee shops that serves as a multi-functional space. Want to just have some wonderful food? Dine here. Want some breakfast or brunch with some of the best coffee (cold brew latte was dang good)? Go here! Want to finish that job search or finish that grad school paper? Yup, this is your spot! I enjoyed the restrooms although they were not gender neutral. The vibe is just incredible! Only things I can complain about are the ordering experience and finding an inside seat: my friend and I were waiting near the counter for over 5 minutes and people continuously cut in front of us. It was really frustrating. Also, they called our orders out as they came so my coffee came way before my food (I got the Breakfast on a Pan which was INSANELY perfect for a balanced breakfast). There was no seating inside so we had to eat out in the rain. Don't get me started on the lack of parking. Otherwise, they have an incredible website as well where they boast "Here, Work and Life Blend." It's truly a beautiful experience. I hope they expand or open another location. Brass tacks is certainly a well-known cafe on the east side of downtown and it's certainly earned that title through its drinks and service! I had the honey pistachio matcha latte which was very yummy. It seemed to me that what looks like "foam" on top of the drink was straight up frothed ice cream, which I actually enjoyed a lot but it did throw me off because it was sweeter than what I was expecting. The space itself is really nice, lots of nooks and tables to study on your own or with a partner/group, however due to it's popularity you'd be hard pressed to find one of the better spots. Parking also becomes a big pain during peak hours, but if you're able to nab a spot it's worth the trouble. It's out of the way from me, so I rank it just a bit lower due to the difficulty of actually coming out to visit and the uncertainty of securing a good spot. read more

The food is solid, and I believe they've added some new items to the menu that I'm excited to try before giving a full review. This was my second attempt to visit. The first time I came on a weekday around 11 AM. The place was packed and I could not find a spot to sit. This visit I was smart and arrived at 8 AM on a Saturday. I took the last spot in the small parking lit in front. I was surprised that it was already semi- full. I was able to snag a good table. What an absolutely beautiful coffee shop. I could read here all day. So fun that all the plants are for sale. My breakfast taco (cheese, potato, egg) was very good. I truly enjoyed Brass Tacks! Recommended to me by my fellow yelper KeAndra, it was just what I needed. I love how huge it is, so much bigger than it looks from the parking lot. The service was nice & my barista helped me talk through some options and we decided on one of the holiday specials: The Eggnog latte, iced with pump of Toffeenut. So good! I'd also come back & work here but because it is a bustling environment, I probably wouldn't take any meetings here. It's not super quiet which I don't mind because I like background noise so if you're looking for a quiet coffee shop try elsewhere. They do also have these nooks where you can that are built into a side wall which are really cool and give a little more of a private feel. First thing is Brass Tacks is a very very busy spot for obvious reason the place is esthetically nice. There is plenty of places to sit at, don't confuse that with " you will be able to find a sit " because you won't. It is super busy. I am a student so i come to places like this to study and be productive. Because of how busy it was the internet was going in and out. Coffee is very mid, customer service was okay at best, because they are usually busy they rush you while you are ordering, so asking for recommendation is out the window. Place is cute, but at the end of the day. If you know you have a lot of business from students and people that need wifi, HAVE A STABLE WIFI. If you got it like that, and you are ready to run up your Hotspot, then this might be your spot... i guess. read more

A friend and I pick random coffee shops to work remotely at and Brass Tacks was this session's winner! This coffee shop is a lot bigger than I expected it to be and has a very nice outdoor area. This was my first time visiting and the person who took my order was super sweet and gave good recommendations. I went with the grilled cheese and added *crispy* bacon, along with a flat white. Don't be fooled, this isn't any old coffee shop. Brass Tacks is both an impressively stunning coffee cafe and simultaneously a place to see and be seen. After navigating parking (which is always full), you're greeted with a handful of seating experiences, various levels, tons of natural light, plants for sale and ofcourse coffee, tea...and beer. They've expanded the menu since my last visit, so I was delighted to find a pretty expansive selection of food items, and alcoholic beverages (including a few seasonal specialities). Fair warning, while I love that this spot welcomes a variety of patrons (folks on 1st dates, students studying, hipsters, co-workers, friends meeting, adult child and their parent pow wows, remote workers), I've never seen the dining area any less than full. It can a bit awkward nabbing the last seat in the shop, then hoping no one steals it while you head to the counter to retrieve your coffee, but in my experience, setting a glass of water and a few napkins at my table causes less anxiety than leaving my computer as my place keeper, and its just as effective. On this visit, someone was holding a private party in their back room so it was not open to the general public...who knew! From the items I've tried, I'd recommend their oat milk Cortado as an expresso based drink, the iced Burberry hibiscus tea with agave over the iced jade cloud tea with agave (the blueberry hibiscus is richer in flavor), the tomato basil soup + mini grilled cheese (yes it is mini) OR the chicken pesto sandwich over the tacos. Of the three, surprisingly the sandwich feels the lightest. Overall for how busy they are I'm always impressed that my wait time to order never exceeds 5 minutes, and always fresh, my order never takes more than 10 minutes to prepare! While I'd love a format where my order was brought to me, I've only had my seat stolen once lol, which imo is a win! If there was ever an establishment to embody the modern, trendy industrial atmosphere of EaDo, it would be Brass Tacks. You can expect a full house of laptops and conversations overlapping each other on any given afternoon, and for good reason. This place is simply nice to visit. Large windows and high ceilings provide a spacious environment for both you and the 25 humongous indoor plants (some of which are even for sale). Despite the openness, there is always adequate ventilation which makes for a very attractive hangout on the hottest days. Rather than taking on a soft and tranquil approach to the coffee scene, Brass Tacks cranks the volume up on R&B/Indie music and encourages a more upbeat environment. It's still possible to hunker down and get work done, as you will witness many people doing; just make sure to bring your headphones. I love the food here. Whenever I've feeling healthy, my go-to is the rice bowl with chicken ± scrambled eggs. It's somewhat expensive for the portion size at $14+tax, but I'm personally willing to chalk it up to the expensive upkeep that this place must require. The turkey avocado club and patty melt are both solid options that are cheaper but filling. If you plan on ordering the patty melt, you might find yourself ordering the house fries as well for a whopping extra $6 (+$1 for sweet potato)... I can't judge you if you do. In all fairness, they give you a lot of fries and they taste great with aioli on the side. Not a fan of the chicken gyro, as I've had it twice and both times it tasted plain. Whenever I visit, the one and only thorn in my side is the WiFi. It occasionally works, but most times, it doesn't and I end up using my phone's hotspot instead. I've tried forgetting the network and rejoining several times with no luck. Parking and table space is difficult if you're just arriving at noon. The residential curbs immediately nearby are free for parking, but you may need to find a spot 1-3 blocks down during peak hours. If the weather permits, the outdoor seating looks nice as well but there's not a lot of shade or buildings to block you from the elements. All analyses aside, this place is a must-visit whether by yourself or with a group. read more
