This is one of my favorite coffee shops to visit in Houston. They have different types of seating depending on if you want to get work done or grab coffee and snacks with friends. They also have outdoor seating, which was amazing for today's weather. I loved the ambiance as everyone was getting work done with me. Only downside is that it can get loud in the coffee shop so be ready to have headphones on. I tried their iced caramel latte with almond milk. It hit the spot. I am a coffee lover so I appreciated that it was strong and not watered down. I also liked their black bean hummus with tortilla chips, carrots, cucumbers, and celery. It was a big serving, so I recommend sharing it with someone. The line can get long so I just ordered when it was calmer and the service time was less than 5 mins! I come here sometimes for book club with my friends and to study or wfh. It's always really crowded and usually very difficult to find a table or place to sit. They do have outside seating but that's usually pretty uncomfortable with Houston weather. The food is pretty good, but there are some things I wanted to mention. I got one of the giant cookies they keep in the cookie jars, and it tasted weirdly like grass? Like literal grass. Which I thought was bizarre. Their fries and ranch are really really good though. I get those every time I go. The chicken sandwich is great, but very tall so it can be difficult to get a bite. I got the turkey avocado club one time and the meat fully tasted and looked like ham, which I thought was gross since I don't like ham. read more

Out of all the coffee shops around town, this is still by far my favorite place to come to. They have so much more than just coffee. The food is delicious. I've pretty much had everything on the menu by now. It's hard to pick a favorite item, it all tastes good. The staff is always super friendly. It has a parking lot on both sides of the building which is rare for this area. There's plenty of seating both inside and out. I highly recommend this place!! read more

Weeknight, evening review. Not sure how it is during the day or on weekends. This place is lit. Lots of different style seating, good music and cool vibe. Place is full of people studying and teleworking as well as just hanging out and chilling. There is an energy to this place. They also have some nice outdoor seating. Lots of other photos are posted so I just added some for the less traffic part of the building tucked away around the back. They play 90s dance music so it has a driving beat underneath all the conversations. Sat near a dude who was in a design meeting teleworking and they were knee deep into the design with all the folks on screen and he had it on speaker. So this is not a place for quiet study. It is loud and in your face. Perfect if that's what you need to work. I wouldn't last 5 minutes working or studying (to each his own) but it was a perfect spot to meet up with a friend and brainstorm. Didn't eat anything. Just ordered a drink. Disclaimer: ordered via Uber Eats Pretty disappointed in this experience. I would give 2 stars but I'm giving some grace because it's an online order. Ordered 4 tacos and two espresso drinks for delivery on a Monday morning (cost ~$40). Paid extra for an egg, potato, cheese, and chorizo taco. Received an egg and chorizo taco. Paid extra for a large, vanilla, oat milk latte. Received a plain oat milk latte. The salsa has a weird, gelatinous texture and is separating. The bacon tacos came with chopped bacon and minimal cheese. All in, wouldn't say the price matched the quality, portion, or attention to detail. read more

The setup of this place is incredible for working! It's a fairly large cafe with so many little solo workspaces set up throughout the place, including "upstairs", which is really just more workspaces built on top of other workspaces. The noise level is moderate, but nothing some noise-cancellation headphones can't help with. As cool as a setup that this place offers, it does have some flaws. The main problem being that the internet is pretty slow and cut out frequently for minutes at time, which I suspect is because this place was packed and basically everyone there was glued to their laptops. This was frustrating and I might not return due to these frequent internet delays. Additionally, I had two egg, potato and cheese breakfast tacos as I arrived mid-morning and love me some breakfast tacos. Sadly, I was disappointed in the bland taste of them. Absolutely ZERO seasoning on the potatoes or the eggs. I guess I'm just spoiled because I usually eat breakfast tacos at Latino-owned businesses, where the chefs have a talent for adding spice and flavor that makes me feel truly alive. read more

First time here. Place is very cool, nice vibe, big space which gets crowded, but patrons were nice so table sharing wasn't a big deal. Great coffee. The issue that warrants the 2 stars you ask. We ordered coffees, heard our name, I went to pick them up. Walked past the food counter, no food was on the counter. The second I got back to our table, our name was called for the food. My wife ordered the simplest thing on the menu, the breakfast taco, and it was stone cold. She goes back to the counter and asks that her taco be warmed up. She'll keep the same one, just throw it in the microwave or something. To which the manager (maybe) and the actual cook start to give her attitude. The cook says in Spanish something to the effect of 'well, yeah, if you wait 5 minutes to pick it up, it's going to be cold.' Uh, no...it wasn't there more than 30 seconds. Then the manager says 'we don't have a microwave, so we'll have to re-make it,' like we're putting them out for asking for something to be served in a quality we expect manner. We paid for it, we expect a warm meal. We were so surprised by the response! If we knew it would be so offensive, she would have suffered through the cold potato, egg and cheese. Silver lining: when they finally did re-make it, begrudgingly, my wife said it was very tasty. So, there's that. read more

They have a coffee bar and a drink bar and some tasty food options which is nice. Parking can get a bit tricky, each time we've gone i've had to lap around waiting as there isn't many spots and it seems to always be busy. read more

When I'm in Houston, this is definitely my favorite coffee shop/cafe to do all the things ( work, chat, meet up with friends, eat, etc.) It's hard for a coffee shop/eatery to be this versatile and Brass Tacks does it with ease. They have work/ study books, long tables, and plenty of space to work. My complaint, which is unfortunately the same complaint for most coffee shops, is that there aren't enough outlets. read more

My lox bagel was very weird. The salmon tasted and had the texture of a raw fish instead of a cured or smoked fish, like what goes on a lox bagel. It also tasted very "fishy", which is not characteristic of smoked or cured salmon. A fishy smell and taste on a lox is a sign of spoilage, so now I am concerned that I may be sick. Also, the WiFi here is terrible and unreliable, even when it's not busy. Most of my time sitting here was spent trying to get the WiFi to work. read more

I recently visited Brass Tacks on a Wednesday evening for a quick connect with a colleague. I was pleasantly surprised when I arrived that I had no issue finding parking and it was easy to find a table once inside. Brass Tacks is much larger than I would've expected it to be and there were a variety of seating areas (at the bar, study cubbies, café style tables, etc.). The ambiance was very nice and would be good for both drinks with a friend and also for studying. I also loved that they offered a variety of menu items including coffees, cocktails/mocktails, pastries and actual meal items. When it was time to order, the woman working at the counter was happy to help make suggestions as I wanted a decaf option and she was very friendly. I decided to go with a decaf cappuccino and they asked if I wanted it in a to-go cup or a mug which I really appreciated them asking. I wanted a mug as I believe paper cups change the flavor of coffee. I also ordered a large chocolate chip cookie to-go. Unfortunately, there seemed to be a mix-up and they gave me my cookie on a tray and my cappuccino was served in a itty bitty to-go cup. For the price I paid, I was shocked to receive such a small drink and also that it wasn't in a mug. The cookie was delicious and would be even better warmed up (odd it wasn't an option with it being served on a tray) but the cappuccino was below average and I wouldn't order it again. I love the ambiance but the execution of orders still needs some improvement. read more

This place is conveniently located by our home and makes it easy to go grab coffee and food, however, the price they charge and the amount they serve does not justify at all. We ordered their breakfast tacos, crepes and cappuccino. They all tasted great except their cappuccino is never hot, it's just warm where you can easily gulp the whole drink and not even feel it too hot to drink. The place is huge and nicely done inside and outside. But their price is very high. We enjoy their beef bowls a lot and it is supposed to be a full meal on its own but for $14 it's a small meal and never fills us. The price is the only reason for giving it 3-stars. read more

An updated review because Brass Tacks is deserving and still top tier! This has to be one of the dopest designed coffee shops in the area. Dare I say it, it's probably the dopest one in Houston! They have it all: WiFi, food/snacks, drinks (including cocktails/mocktails) indoor seating, outdoor seating, two parking lots, PLANTS (!!!), great customer service, and clean restrooms! I mean what else do you need?! I'll always visit this location when in the area. WiFi is for paid customers per their website. I will say, during my last visit I had to ask a neighbor what the password was. Not sure if I overlooked it somewhere while ordering, so ask about that. Brass Tacks is the perfect place to get work done, catch up with your people, or just chill. Big vibes! 10 outta 10 and as per usual I highly recommend! Brass Tacks is so yum!! My friend and I came here for lunch and some coffee. It was around 11am on a Tuesday, and the place was PACKED, so we had to sit outside where it was kinda hot haha. There were a few seats left at some big tables so there was still some room if you came to study on your own. We also couldn't find any parking in the lot so we parking around 2 blocks away, which wasn't too bad. I got the breakfast hammich and the seasonal caramel apple chai. The breakfast hammich was so flavorful and delicious!! The toast was perfectly crispy and the cheese, egg, and ham all blended together into a delicious sandwich! 10/10 would recommend. I also got the seasonal iced caramel apple chai, which was SOSOSO delicious!! I haven't had that kind of flavor before! It gave such fall vibes and tasted like apple cider mixed with chai, such a unique and wonderfully delicious drink! I'd definitely get it again!! All in all, I greatly enjoyed the meal and would definitely come back to try some other items on the menu but maybe at a different time to try to sit inside :-) read more

If you drive here, the parking lot is more bumpy than the moon but it's an ok size. You'll most likely will have to find some street parking around the area but even then you might have to circle around as it gets busy. The inside is clean and lots of different options for seating. If you plan on getting some serious work or studying done, you'll probably have to bring some noise cancelling headphones as it gets loud. The food and coffee was good but not worth the price in my opinion. I'd come again if it's the most convenient option but I didn't find it to be a place to run back to. read more

Came in on a Saturday morning and immediately fell in love. The ambiance, the people, and the food are just so good - and inviting. I had the grilled cheese and a lavender lemonade. I was able to taste my buddy's french fries as well. The grilled cheese was artisanal at best, the lemonade perfectly balanced, and the fries were crisp. I especially love the atmosphere. Family friendly but buzzing with productivity. If I lived closer I'd come to study or work on presentations...and spend all my money at the bar, lol. There is a lot of seating but it gets full quickly so all the good seats can be taken up fast and most people stay for hours so it's hard to find a nice place unless you go early. If you're trying to come to get some serious studying/work done, this might not be the best place. Yes there's a lot of seating but it gets so crowded and very loud. They have coffee / alcohol drinks / food / pastries. I would definitely recommend if you want to go chat with friends, or go on a date bc the vibes are great! They do have a small turf grass area out in the front for outdoor seating and when the weather isn't 200 degrees outside then I would definitely would love come and to sit out there and enjoy a nice cup of cappuccino. The baristas are all really kind and great. Their coffee is Merit brand so if you're familiar with the roasters then you know the coffee is a little more light and acidic. The parking is pretty limited so if you don't get lucky or go on a slow day, expect to do street parking. read more

I really like this coffee shop! I had this place bookmarked for our trip to Houston, and it did not disappoint. The inside is a shared co-working space, which is nice. It was busy with many people enjoying their coffee, and working on their laptops on a Friday morning. A large mix of a lot of students from University of Houston nearby, and some WFH people. There's also cute nooks with couches and eclectic furniture on the sides. DRINKS: The coffee here!!!! Wow! My friend who lives in Houston actually suggested the Matcha latte, so my boyfriend and I tried that first, the Iced matcha w/ soy milk. It was not super sweet, but had a rich and clean matcha flavor, and was honestly perfect. I don't say that much about matchas! The lavender oat milk latte was great iced. The lavender flavor tasted very natural, and the oat milk addition didn't break the bank surprisingly like some coffee spots that try to nickel and dime you. I think both drinks with alternative milk substitutes (soy and oat) came out to be $13 with tip included. If I lived in this area, I would always be here over chains like Starbucks. I'm sitting at the bar and trying to have dinner reading my iPad. first one person comes up to me and says that no laptops are allowed at the bar parent they pointed out the sign and I said it was an iPad. She walked away. Second person came up and said despite the sign, no iPads are allowed either. Brass Tacks lost a customer over their silly rule. They tried to explain that it was a safety hazard because they mixed drinks at the bar. What? When I have dinner by myself, I'm generally just trying to read the news or whatever. It's not being disruptive. There's no noise. Ambience is good. You will have to get there early to get a good parking spot and place to work at (if you are wanting to work there.) Drinks are good. Some where better than others. The internet kept going in and out on my laptop and as well as some of my coworkers. So, possibly expect some interruptions. The food: The patty melt was simple and good 5/5 and would order again The spring rolls 3/5 they don't have noodles! I definitely needed the noodles to make it taste better. It was like eating a salad in a rice paper. The fries are good but would say they are overpriced,but that aioli that comes with is great. Simple not overpowering and the right compliment for them.
