delicious cafe con leche
Alexandra M.

My friend and I ventured into Midtown for Easter weekend for the first time. We were afraid nothing was open due to the holiday but luckily pretty much everything there was open. I of course was in search of good coffee and we looked on yelp. Camp was calling our name & I am glad we answered! Loved loved loved my cafe con leche!! Been drinking the stuff since I was little & this was so smooth; so good I wanted to take another one to go after enjoying it inside. I had bought coffee beans they had on hand & one of their selections was from Guatemala. Everyone behind the counter was super nice & courteous, and the gentleman that rung me up for coffee offered to grind the beans & asked me how I usually brew it to see the consistency it needs to be done at, which I really appreciated! With every bag purchase, you get a free coffee! Rustic design, keeping the touches of what once was a creaky wooded house, making it a cozy spot to talk, work, & relax!

I came here because I wanted a good cup of coffee and a place to do some work, and definitely was not disappointed. It's a very cozy coffee spot with plenty of seating inside and outside. The coffee was hot and fresh and felt home. The service was also very friendly and quick. I definitely want to return because it was a very peaceful and pleasant experience. I recommend as it is a great spot to do work or study or just have a nice cup of coffee with friends or family.

This spacious, El Salvadoran-owened coffee shop reminds me of a Gryffindor Common Room. There's so many nooks and different kinds of seating to suit your work session with plenty of natural light streaming into the huge windows facing either the street or backyard patio area. At 8am on a Thursday the space was not full at all and the associates were friendly and welcoming. I appreciated most the straightforward menu with lots of specialty (super unique!) options. They have a 15% discount during Happy Hour from 7-9pm Mondays through Thursdays. My lavendar iced latte made with oatmilk was tasty and potent -- just what I needed to power through the end of a work week! I also appreciated the dedicated parking.

Tamale de Elote and Horchata Iced Latte

I had heard about this coffee shop so I was excited to finally check it out. It did not disappoint! I came here on a Sunday and it was pretty busy but I was able to get a table. They have free Wi-Fi so almost everyone was on their laptops because it is a great space to get some work done. You can choose from sitting at actual tables or more comfy sofa seating. When you walk in, you place your order at the counter. I decided to go for the Tamale de Elote and the Horchata Latte. I AM OBSESSED! They were both sooo good! Just like the food, the service was great as well! I am definitely coming back!

Very chill coffee house in Houston's Montrose district.

A fabulous converted craftsman designed house modified for relaxing, relating and maintaining. Hot coffee, sweet pastries, fantastic food and pleasant people. Multiple rooms to quench your personal space appetite for relatable relaxation and quiet time.

I wanted to eat breakfast type but not heavy and something to sit and chill and FOUND a cute little place!!! Mexican coffee!!!! Yes!!!!!! Cafe de holla and horchata iced coffee, and let me tell you about the pastries PAN MEXICANO to be exact!! Pan Dulce, and tamales OMG!! We ordered a pork tamale and cafe de holla and horchata ice coffee and empanada "guava" and chocolate and almonds muffin yummmmm!!!! Can't wait The service is excellent! The young man makes you feel welcome and is very chill when taking your order and the ambiance is very chill friendly homie!! I loved it!! The horchata iced coffee is good, I wished it was stronger! And had some thickness to it but it was still a good drink! The cafe de holla is missing the piloncillo and the coffee smell and taste is just coffee... try adding cinnamon and piloncillo.. that's the authentic Mexican cafe de holla. The pastries were good, soft, sweet and filling yum The tamal was perfect! Authentic Oaxaca taste!!! And it accompanied with chips and bottle salsa like in Mexico! I wished they had the yucca, I really wanted to try them. They have just regular potato chips and that ok The chocolate muffin is so moist and delicious!! They warmed it up and it made the top almonds and muffin toasty and that is a plus!!! I enjoyed it, so you know the place is an old house and I loved how they kept the walls dividing the rooms!!! With no doors, privacy and homey vibes

I got the moya mocha. I liked the slight heat from the spices at the end of the sip. It is a small house with cozy vibes.

Came here to work for a bit and really liked the vibe. It feels super cozy and intimate. The tables are pretty small but can fit 2 people with laptops back-to-back. I ordered the horchata iced latte, and it was okay. It wasn't that flavorful and unfortunately tasted a bit watered down, but maybe it was because of the ice. The Wifi and bathroom password/code can be found on the receipt after purchasing something. The WiFi is pretty weak, but may depend on how many people are connected. It was pretty full and we came on a Sunday night.

We stopped by for an afternoon pick me up on a Friday and there was plenty of street parking, more than enough seating inside and in their outdoor patio, and a ton of drinks to choose from. We got the Mayan Mocha and Iced Horchata Latte. Both were tasty and specifically for the mocha, it had just enough spice for us to feel the heat but not be overwhelming like other spiced chocolate drinks can be. I also grabbed a guava empanada on the way out and it was delicious!

No nuts in the coffee! I met a friend here and it was pretty full on a Sunday afternoon. There's seating indoors and a larger area in the back. You order and pick up at the counter. I had to park on a nearby street. Lovely, flavorful coffee at a reasonable price WITH a free refill? Perfect for catching up with a friend or a first date. It's a great spot that I'd definitely return to.

The coffee is good and the cozy vibe is what coffee shops in this town are missing ! Service is slow and outdoor seating is not great though... Parking: There is plenty of parking ! You can park in the lot of on the street. They also have a bike area Seating: There are a lot of cozy couches/ seats inside the main part of the house. The rest of the space has 2 top tables and 2/3 group tables. Unfortunately the 2 tops are seem to get taken by individuals , which cuts the seating in half (especially since the tables are quite small so sharing can be a challenge). They do have a large side patio with plenty of additional seating but it needs some TLC. The tables wobble and there's basically no shade/coverage (there were 2 broken umbrellas when I came). Drinks: I got the cafe con leche and it was amazing ! I love that they have south American coffee and food. The coffee specifically is delicious and makes it stand out from the rest of the coffee shops in Houston Service: The service is lacking. On a Sunday late morning they only had 2 people lacking. Orders were taken very slowly and people were waiting around the order area for quite a while. They wouldn't call drinks out loudly either so there was confusion when people tried to get their items. If they added names to the orders and projected more this would help out a lot. Other things: I don't think they had the AC on inside which made it very hot... They have single stall bathrooms They do have a ramp from the parking so it seems to be wheelchair accessible Overall it's a cute place and the coffee is good but they could do some things to make the space a bit better (especially the patio which would help with seating!)

Will they ever bring back the empanadas? It was the best savory item on the menu.

Im here right now. There are at least three kinds of empanadas.

What's the WiFi password?

It changes every week or so, so its not something that can just be given. They put it at the bottom of your receipt when you purchase a drink, so make sure to ask for a paper receipt when you order if you need the password!

Are they dog friendly?

You can't bring them inside but there is a side patio and we have taken our dogs there

The oat latte my friend got was creamy, well balanced and wonderful. We got the eggs, sausage, and cheese taco, chicken gumbo empanada, and the beef empanada and each one was delicious. The breakfast taco really hit the spot. Just right amount of salty, gooey cheese, and meat. Made my day. The empanadas are huge, enough for two people. Another awesome visit.

Grinder's Coffee Bar came up and it was right across the street so I made my way over. I arrived around 1 p.m. on a Wednesday. I parked in their small complimentary lot and made my way inside. Ambiance (3.5/5): Grinder's is basically two spots in one. When you walk in, there's a small counter where you place your order. And a handful of seats. From there, you wan walk into a more spacious second room that houses a CBD shop. And more seating along with the bathroom. I sat at a couch in the CBD area. While weed isn't my thing, if you're into both weed and coffee, that makes for a nice one-two punch for you. There isn't a ton of seating, less so than most coffee shops. Luckily, since it was a weekday, I didn't have any trouble. I wonder if that's different on the weekends. They also have free WiFi if you'd like to linger and work or study. Service (2.5/5): The menu is a little confusing because they have a menu on the counter and a menu on the wall with different items. I didn't see that there was a menu on the counter until I was about to place an order. They also have some beverages in a cooler that aren't on either menu. Not the best set up. Service wasn't terribly friendly either. Food (N/A): Since I just had lunch prior, no food for me. They have a small, but appetizing number of pastries and small bites for sale if you get the munchies (pun intended). Drinks (3.5/5): I'm not a coffee drinker so take this with a grain of salt. When I go to a coffee shop, I like coffee shops that still have a nice selection of teas and juices. Grinder's has a small number of teas that can be made either hot or iced. I went with one, iced, and sweetened with agave (for a surcharge). I liked it and the price was reasonable. They also had a mocktail of sorts that was available on their seasonal menu, although like most mocktails, overpriced. While not really my vibe, if you're a CBD person, Grinder's will be right up your alley. It's a unique spot and located in a great part of town.
