Service was efficient, but the guy behind the counter wasn't too friendly. Parking can also be a bit of a challenge with the on-site lot being pretty tight, so street parking may be your best bet. There's a mix of couches, chairs, and tables inside, plus a small patio if the weather's nice. I stopped by with a friend on a cold Sunday morning in December, and the indoor seating was pretty full with a mix of people working and casual conversations. There's only one barista, but things still moved along pretty quickly The interior has an eclectic, artsy vibe with some interesting vintage decor.. it almost feels like hanging out in a hipster record store. I liked that they offer dairy-free milk options and I tried their golden latte. It had a strong turmeric flavor, but it wasn't bad. It was on a thursday afternoon so it wasnt really packed around 5pm and we found a table on the side to sit as to not disturb others too much with our conversations. We each ordered a coffee and talked while we waited for our coffees to come out. There was only 1 Barista working at the time so he was servicing the register and the drinks at the same time so it took a minute but everything tasted great! Id come back here to study and hang out casually. Lots of others were there with their laptops as well doing their work or meeting with others. There was 1 table of people playing games together. Literally situated in a residential neighborhood, so parking took a bit but a really solid coffee spot with a great selection and warm vibes. My kid was at camp at nearby St. Thomas University, so I went to days in a row. First time, I saw a space for Coconut Tres Leches, but they were out. Black Hole is yet another shop we had to try on a late Saturday morning. My partner and I stopped in around 11am. We parked on the side street because the lot was full, however there seem to be plenty of free spots on street should that happen when you arrive. At that time of day, there were a few open couches and chairs but the patio was occupied and there was a steady stream of folks coming in to order and take out. The interior is an eclectic vibe of mix and match vintage furniture, pop art, colorful framed posters and images, and lots of sunlight. Overall, the decor gave us a comforting feeling without any pretentiousness. There is a large menu board that clearly displays all of their options including a large collection of syrups like pistachio, lavender, and macadamia. Note there was a sign on the register that said they are cashless. We tried a chai latte and the golden latte respectively and both earned high marks fro me. The chai latte had a strong chai flavor, a nice balance of sweetness, and didn't taste artificial. I also enjoyed the contrast the golden latte provided with its pronounced turmeric flavor and earthy richness. Two things that lead me to rate them a 4 instead of a 5 were (1) the service wasn't spectacular and (2) they have kind of an odd Wi-Fi setup where you only get access for 1hr based on your individual receipt. It seems like a popular spot for meeting friends or working, so I can't fault them too much. But at the same time, I haven't seen this at other shops in the area. Additionally, I've personally felt more welcome when ordering and enjoying my drink at other coffee spots. My recommendation would be to grab and go if you live nearby or are visiting the area. You can enjoy these lattes and other drinks without worrying about the time limit or possible cold service. read more

Stumbled upon this spot while in the area and needed some coffee. Smaller with a good balance of lounge seating with some outdoor seating. Wall art and bright walls completed the vibe. They do offer desserts, pastries and some light breakfast items and sandwiches. A Taco truck is available around lunch hours during the week. We were visiting friends and saw this coffee house next door. Glad we did. It's got great people with great drinks. I usually get a hot cappuccino wit' 2 splendas to test the waters but if you buy a bag of beans they give you a free cup of that coffee, it was very good. When I got the beans home I ground some and shared a cup with my wife. Very good. Fair trade. organic and kosher. The bag had lots of info which i like. They even had a roast date. I bought a bag of Big Bend Coffee Roaster's Big Blend...roasted in Marfa. My wife got, shared and enjoyed an iced mocha coconut coffee concoction....it was very good. There is a ton of seating and the decoration is really cool! I used to love the cajeta latte, but on my most recent trip, it tasted just like my husband's plain latte. I've never had an experience where a coffee was so bad that I asked to switch it for something else--until I visited Black Hole Coffee. I ordered a drink that tasted completely burnt, and when I politely asked to swap it for something else (not even asking for a refund), I was flat-out told no. After paying a premium for coffee, I at least expect some level of customer service. Instead, I had to pour the entire drink out--a total waste of money. Truly the first time this has ever happened to me, and I will never be returning. If you value good coffee and good service, run, don't walk, away from this place. read more

So I came to try and do some work ok a Saturday morning/afternoon and this was part of my explore Houston coffee shops plan. It was a spacious and fairly empty spot with quite a bit of seating and outlets to stay charged. Sadly, it wasn't my favorite spot and their wifi policy seems counterintuitive for a coffeeshop to work at. The wifi is "free" with purchase and lasts for an hour so if you plan to stay here for a while, I guess space out your purchases. However, I tried their golden latte and was not impressed. It tasted like they just used dry spices and put it in milk so it got really gritty. They do have happy hour for beer and wine though so maybe it's not intended to be a study spot but they do have a nice space and set up for it. read more

I ordered a drink, they got it wrong, and when I was confirming the drink they called out and said I asked for a different flavored latte, the guy who took my order responded in SUCH a rude tone as if it was my fault or that I was wrong. I just accepted the wrong order, but likely won't be returning any time soon. Immediately upon walking in, the decor and atmosphere was a step up from many coffee shops. The good vibes that the decor set led me to be a bit disappointed by the service. There were two employees. One was friendly, I suppose, but the other seemed a bit more cold and closed off. He made eye contact with me, took a sip of his drink, then walked away before taking my order. His vibes weren't the most welcoming. The food and coffee were great! I got an iced vanilla latte, and it was definitely one of the better iced lattes I've had. I had the mozzarella sandwich, and it was quite flavorful. The bread was kind of hard, but that was easy to look past. I was also surprised that they didn't heat it up, and it was served cold, but that may have been a misguided expectation. I enjoyed it, regardless. Got a matcha latte. The latte was not good and went up to the counter to switch it out for something else. The barista proceeds to immediately dump out the drink and ask in an inconvenience manner what else I want. Maybe make the drink right the first time and not give me attitude. The coffee is good & they have a couple snacks to go with. Also some small lunches & snack packs. But the service is passive aggressive. I had an encounter in which i asked for a red glass of wine & was only filled up mid way. I brought it to their attention in which they said "you get what we pour" in which clearly it was not a FULL glass. & I have ordered a glass before in which it has always been filled to the top. There as been another instance in which I was given a plastic cup & I asked for a glass cup (due to it being windy outside) & was told by the same person "no because you're boyfriend comes in coughing" In which shocked me because (I don't even have a partner lol) & secondly who are they to define if a friend of mine is sick or not due to a mild cough. I am a nurse myself & I took it to offense to be denied a glass cup due to another persons actions in which firstly they were not sick & I found it unnecessary to explain as to why they are not. Overall the coffee & place is great for a study & socialize location But one of the workers may be a bit judgmental. read more

He was very personable, and customer-focused. He asked me my name and expressed hopefully he'll see me again next week. Well just for that, I'll be back Andy. There were a few customers that were clearly frequent flyers and to me that speaks volumes. There was one customer who shared her go to drinks with me and also stated you can't go wrong here. Friendly people. Kind people. The inside has a plethora of seating options, so I imagine people are able to get lots of studying/reading/work done. I'll be returning. Haven't been here in a long while. Looks like much of the furniture has been updated with new, yet still with the mid century vibe. Other changes is the handicap parking dab smack in front and the WIFI internet has changed...Probably for the better No longer can you get unlimited Wi-Fi. It's 2 hours with a purchase. I think it will cut down on the campers who fill the place and slow the Wi-Fi down for the deserving like me. If you plan to stay there be sure to ask for a cup/mug instead of the paper cups. the place is cute, not as busy as the other coffee shops i go to in houston. My drink tasted fine but I don't trust consuming any of the food and I'm lowkey afraid of the drink i have right now. I was looking behind the counter and the coffee machine looked dirty, the food in the case looked like it's been there for quiet some time, the pans they were displayed on were burnt (which is fine because pans get stained but at least out parchment paper over the pan for aesthetic purposes) there was fingerprints on the counter, the a atmosphere is nice but i do not think they throughly clean here which make me uncomfortable. read more

I ordered the golden latte with soy milk and cajeta syrup, and I loved it. The cajeta syrup had this sweet and spicy flavor that made this drink stand out. It was the perfect amount of spiciness, not too much that I'd wouldn't drink the latte, but not too little that I barely notice the spice. As is usually the case with these shopping outlets with limited parking, it would be better to walk to this location if you can. Graustark Laundry, the business just to the right of this coffee shop, just put out a "Reserved Parking Only" towing enforced sign in the same space I was in. Additionally, there is no parking garage to alleviate this issue. If you drive here and you don't have any parking spaces available, you're out of luck. Although the line of customers went relatively smooth, don't expect to pop in and pop out before work and expect to make it on time. It seems like they could do with an extra person on staff to reduce time spent waiting in line. There was a long line of customers at the time I went (~9 am on Saturday), and the limited number of staff can't keep up with demand. If you are getting a baked good, ask if they can heat it up first. I neglected to do this before writing my review, but if they can't, then it's another mark against them. read more

Decided to walk over while in Houston visiting since I was on a mission to hit as many local coffee shops as possible. Glad I came here. The dirty chai here is smooth and I added Toffee Nut syrup. A little birdie told me their syrups are made in house and let's just say this syrup tastes like love lives here. I also picked up an oatmeal raisin cookie which is baked like it has a lot of butter ... what's better than that?
