I found my new obsession!! Especially the moment their honey bee iced latter hit my lips, I was sold! Not too sweet and delicious on so many levels! Just recently tried their green tea frappy and they've done it again! Won my taste buds with a great green tea flavor, not chalky, and not too sweet. The lavender iced latte was also good but didn't win my heart as the 2 drinks above. Not only is it tucked away in one of the buildings in Rice University, but it's cute and the drinks are legit! If you bring your own cup then you get a $1 off any drip coffee or $.25 off any drinks you order. Decrease plastic waste!

I come here once a week to get either a green tea freeze, green tea frappy, or nutty bee with almond milk. The entire place is student run and they have a lot of pastries and vegan cinnamon rolls and bars. Definitely get the cinnamon roll and heat it up when you're going to eat it. It's really big and just $2.50. This month I tried their drink of the month (toffee coffee). It was alright, I'm not a huge fan of the raspberry flavor and I got it warm. I think if I got it without the raspberry and cold it would've been better. There are some hits and misses with their drinks of the month but they're always very innovative and have new items on the menu. Service is sometimes a little slow during hours are class or in the mornings. It's also usually crowded and noisy. But the drinks are really affordable and pretty good.

Nice place with a good vibe, although during the mid-hours it can get deafeningly loud with student customers. Other times when it's less busy, I'm afraid it's still a tad too loud with the baristas blasting the radio (might want to turn it down a notch...) Pros: -Coffees taste great. The Pecan is especially delicious. -Coffee is CHEAP. Bring a mug and your coffee is less than a dollar. -Bright and fun atmosphere (for study or just hanging) -Temperature is relatively mild unlike most other subarctic locations on and off campus INDOORS. Cons: -They remodeled, but there still are too few seats and tables. For a university coffee shop (the only one really on campus except more expensive FLO) this is a minus. -There are not enough outlets - be nice if they had more extension cords at least. -Nowhere close to the best campus coffee shop I have been to, but not bad.

A nice warm & relatively queit place for a working afternoon. The "Milky Way" is very tasty & it costs $3.25.

    1. Pros: A. Delicious coffee B. Reasonable price C. Abundant outlets inside & outside D. Fast free WiFi inside & outside E. Not very cold F. Parking in Greenbriar Lot which costs $2/day. 2. Cons: may because the cafe belongs to the students here, noise is all around.

    Double shots lavender latte!!

Support student businesses! Plus, they have amazing coffee, and you can get drip for about a $1.

Hip place and tastes great. I don't even go here anymore, but stopped by on my way down memory lane. Different location, same iconic logo.

The oat latte my friend got was creamy, well balanced and wonderful. We got the eggs, sausage, and cheese taco, chicken gumbo empanada, and the beef empanada and each one was delicious. The breakfast taco really hit the spot. Just right amount of salty, gooey cheese, and meat. Made my day. The empanadas are huge, enough for two people. Another awesome visit.

After having lunch at Loro in Kirby, I had some time to kill before some plans I had later that…read moreday. I hopped on the trust Yelp app to find a coffee shop nearby. Grinder's Coffee Bar came up and it was right across the street so I made my way over. I arrived around 1 p.m. on a Wednesday. I parked in their small complimentary lot and made my way inside. Ambiance (3.5/5): Grinder's is basically two spots in one. When you walk in, there's a small counter where you place your order. And a handful of seats. From there, you wan walk into a more spacious second room that houses a CBD shop. And more seating along with the bathroom. I sat at a couch in the CBD area. While weed isn't my thing, if you're into both weed and coffee, that makes for a nice one-two punch for you. There isn't a ton of seating, less so than most coffee shops. Luckily, since it was a weekday, I didn't have any trouble. I wonder if that's different on the weekends. They also have free WiFi if you'd like to linger and work or study. Service (2.5/5): The menu is a little confusing because they have a menu on the counter and a menu on the wall with different items. I didn't see that there was a menu on the counter until I was about to place an order. They also have some beverages in a cooler that aren't on either menu. Not the best set up. Service wasn't terribly friendly either. Food (N/A): Since I just had lunch prior, no food for me. They have a small, but appetizing number of pastries and small bites for sale if you get the munchies (pun intended). Drinks (3.5/5): I'm not a coffee drinker so take this with a grain of salt. When I go to a coffee shop, I like coffee shops that still have a nice selection of teas and juices. Grinder's has a small number of teas that can be made either hot or iced. I went with one, iced, and sweetened with agave (for a surcharge). I liked it and the price was reasonable. They also had a mocktail of sorts that was available on their seasonal menu, although like most mocktails, overpriced. While not really my vibe, if you're a CBD person, Grinder's will be right up your alley. It's a unique spot and located in a great part of town.

Staff was ok... not exceptionally warm and friendly but good enough. I asked a question and the girl responded to me without turning around or making eye contact - gave me the impression she was annoyed that I was asking a question. There were only two baristas working on a Saturday morning so perhaps they were stressed because it was busy. Coffee was delicious and served with a small chocolate mint. They also serve beer. Variety of pastries. Small parking lot that fills up quickly! There was a line of people outside waiting to get in a few minutes before they opened. They don't open until 9 am which is late for a coffee shop. Highly recommend if you're looking for a cute destination for a casual date or out with a friend.

I love the upper level deck and snagging a cute table overlooking a window. It's definitely a 'one size fits all' that is great for morning work/studying, light afternoon catch up, or a cozy late night vibe. Traditionally, I've seen a lot of people studying during the week while a bit more of a lively feel on weekend evenings. People are very polite but do follow the courtesy of waiting to find a table until after they order, since it can get a little busy. Overall, they are quick with coffee orders with a variety of pastries. Parking is difficult (but it is Montrose!), so anticipate adding a little time to your drive to find a spot. Worth checking out!
