a solid spot to hang out or get some work done (albeit not very spacious), and the service is super friendly. i got their seasonal strawberry malt latte and it was really smooth and strong. i do wish the strawberry flavor came through more, since it was heavier on the chocolatey sweetness, but it was still enjoyable. i also really liked their house-made almond milk and love that there's no upcharge for it :) the pastry selection was a bit limited when we went, and the lemon poppy loaf was slightly dry. i'd love to come back and try their food items and more coffee tho! read more

My friend and I stopped by for some brunch and had a mediocre at best experience. I tried the birds of paradise/guava matcha and my friend had the latte. The matcha was very faint and tasted more like sweet milk with some guava flavoring. My friend said her latte was the same - more milky than coffee. The pancakes were fluffy and sweet, probably the best thing out of what we tried. The biscuit was dry and I needed water to wash it down. The portions of the food and drinks were pretty small compared to the price. The employees were curt and to the point, and when we asked about some of the menu items (like what was in the birds of paradise drink), they seemed annoyed. The ambiance is very casual. I haven't been back here for ages! I can report that their coffee is still fantastic! Went here with my family and tried their bird of paradise (guava foam matcha) and hojicha caramel latte and they were delicious. The Guava foam matcha was sooo delicious, I'm definitely getting this next time I come back again. The hojicha caught my eye when I saw it. I love making hojicha tea so getting this hojicha caramel latte hot is . Its a very nice light blend. Pair this with sitting in front with their spectacular patio and you'll have a great time. Another item on the menu that caught my eye was the matcha sua dua, so a vietnamese matcha coffee. Very interesting! As always with this area, I hate parking around here. There is a small lot if you can find parking. If not good luck finding some street parking nearby. Their space inside is spacious paired with a front and side patio to enjoy the nicer weather. Have always heard great things but we usually do breakfast and coffee at home. We popped in on a recent Saturday morning. The space is larger than I was expecting and had a nice merch selection upon entry. The woman behind the counter was friendly and helpful. My normal go to order is a bone dry cappuccino but I decided to try the competition cappuccino along with the yogurt and toasted granola. My husband got a drip coffee and the breakfast tacos. My cappuccino ended up being a little too sweet for me but I loved how it came with a side car espresso shot and my breakfast was a little heavy on the yogurt and light on granola. They have a designated parking lot which I appreciate, and also have a decent amount of table space to study or work if necessary. The coffee here is strong, and this was the first coffee shop that made me truly love a flat white. I will say that my flat white tasted just the teeeniest bit burnt at the beginning of the drink, but otherwise still a great drink. They do also offer food and breakfast options for those interested. Shoutout to Cellie and Christie (sp.) for the to "infinity and beyond" customer service at this casual, comfy coffee shop on a busy corner in Montrose! I am a newcomer to the coffee scene, so oftentimes I am unsure of what to order. Thankfully, baristas like Cellie are more than happy to help me make a selection based on my preferences: strong, sweet, milky, and iced. Unfortunately, this time around, the regular Americano (stout) with an added cloud was not the one for me -- it was entirely too brew-tasting. I felt terrible about asking if it could somehow be sweetened. Another barista, Christie, was glad to do so, but first offered to make a different drink all together. I hate being wasteful, so I initially refused to take her up on this offer. Instead, Christie added some of their in-house vanilla syrup and almond milk. It was better than the original drink, but still a bit too beer-heavy tasting for me. The fact that she gladly made me a vanilla iced latte that was more to my liking won me over as a first-time customer at Blacksmith. It was tasty and strrong enough to power me through the rest of my day for another 7 hours. Nice spot in the Montrose area. Had the Dos Tacos, one filled with egg and and potatoes and the other egg and chorizo with a side of salsa verde and a Cortado. The tacos were delivered to my table nice and piping hot. They had good flavor and I enjoyed every bite( I think a bit too much). The Cortado had a mellow flavor profile with not acidic aftertaste and no sugars added. I came to Blacksmith a few years ago. It was a nice little cozy spot tucked away on a corner. The front of the building seemed to be under construction. Parking was in the back. The ambiance inside had the feel of a study hall. Hipster vibes. It was quiet and not a lot of conversations in the air. The wait in line was a bit long. After ordering I sat down. The seating felt a little awkward and tables felt really close. Not an issue but an observation nonetheless. I sampled the Vietnamese Steak and Eggs, Smoked Salmon Dill Scramble, Biscuit with cream fraiche and jam and Silver Platter Chilaquiles. Of the four, I preferred the Smoked Salmon Dill Scramble. The salmon had a great smokey flavor and the eggs were fluffy. It was a good combination. The biscuit was delicious! The Vietnamese steak and eggs were not bad but if you've had bò né at a Vietnamese restaurant in Houston, then you know this is not the same. Very good but not great. Still not a bad dish. The chilaquiles did leave something to be desired. They tasted good but just not what I'd expect from chilaquiles in an authentic Mexican restaurant. It was probably my least favorite of everything I ate there. Everything tasted good for a neighborhood cafe. The coffee was really good. Nice and strong! I enjoyed it. I ordered a flat white and it was okay (for the value isn't bad) but the to go cup needs much improvement. I felt as if I was drinking out of a basic Dixie Cup. The coffe shop takes a more authentic taste to their coffee. As the latte (Mocha) I ordered feels like a coffee shop that makes its own grounds. Which is a good thing of course, but the feeling and tatse of the coffee always feels more "grounded" when made this way. It's a little harder to drink and if I had to desribe the specific taste it feels a bit smooth when entering my mouth, but when it settles in the tatste becomes more tart and unfamiliar. It's almost as if I have feelings that i don't like it, and don't particularly find it a good coffee to drink, but even then I still find myself taking sips like I like the drink. I've reached a middle ground in taste because there is a part of me that hates this drink and despises the natural feel to it, but the other part is me embracing its taste and feeling joy. Both of them combined is the person thats typing this now, me. The interior is fairly nice as it takes a more minimilistic urbex approach, the chairs are firm and well made with the bottom part of the seat curving downwards which is suprisingly comfortable, probaly one of the best chairs I've ever sat in they feel safe and sturdy. All the walls feel like a different setting but pair with each other perfectly. The barista area feels crowded but less crowded than most coffee shops, theres an island in the middle that makes it inherently a little more spacios but could be hard to move around. The view from the window seats don't look to pleasing but shows the world around Blacksmith, a busy street, a market, and an office building taking the space in the background. The shop is located in the Montrose area which is an area made for the same type of people, people that follow a certain dresscode, people that are or think they're wearing clothes that are appealing and nice to the eye, people that have macbooks and surface pros that sit with their legs crossed. Families of different backgrounds that find a point tpo where they relate and have the same interest and routine in their everyday life. Business men, thrift shop employees, baristas, bikers, students, etc. The world is so vast and I cant seem to grasp this sense of unity, like I belong "around people" in general. Does this make me any different from them? Am I the same and do my goals align with theirs, is anyone really different when deepend into their roots? The feeling of being around people makes me focus and want to do better, and that's why I like coffee shops in general. Because I feel like me actively seeking out and walking into a new place is like im stretching and the air is going right through me. The coffee grows on me as I sit here, I watch the coffee and the water that condensates on the cup is slowly making it's way through the table and it makes me feel good, I see it now that it is a decent coffee so I will be changing this rating to a 6. Park them cabooses Yelpstars cuz Blacksmith putting the asses in the seats. Rolling into the rear door this little hole in the wall shop comes to life. Walk up and place that order. Both days I've ordered the egg, cheddar, and sausage on a biscuit. This breakfast sandwich was on that next level. When I say next level I'm talking about Hominy Grill Charleston, South Carolina level breakfast biscuits. For those of you that never made it to Hominy Grill they unfortunately closed their doors in the past couple years. Whoever the Blacksmith in the kitchen is serving up these bad ass breakfast items...YOU on that top chef level. Coffee lovers of all shapes and sizes gulping those drinks. At my age, I will seek out quality coffee because it makes a world of difference from the generic, everyday coffee like Folgers or something. Blacksmith is located in the heart of Montrose. When we arrived a little bit after they opened on a weekday, there was plenty of seating inside and out, but it quickly filled up. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable about their coffees. Just glancing over the reviews and pics, I know I wanted to try their scratch made biscuits, but I did not think it would fill me up, so I ordered the Dos Tacos to go with it. It was two tacos, one being a potato and black bean, the other was a chorizo and beans. I wasn't expecting much out of these tacos, but they were very filling and tasted very good. I was pretty full at that point but could not wait to dive into the hot biscuit and coffee. The biscuit came with crèam fraîche and your choice of jam. The biscuit combined with the butter and jam was so very delicious. Probably one of the better biscuits I have ever had. Opted to give them another try this morning and sit on their patio. Oat cap served in a really cute cup and the foam had a nice thick consistency and the coffee flavor was medium bodied. The bacon cheese croissant came out quickly and the croissant was super flaky and crispy and the bacon was thin and crunchy and the cheddar was fully melted with their sift books egg. Delicious!
