I recently paid a visit to Paper Co. Cafe after making plans to come down to Houston. As soon as I did, I had to let fellow friend and Yelp Elite Tiffany know so we could catch up! We decided to meet at Paper Co. Cafe since it would be a new place to check out for both of us, and seemed like a great place to meet over coffee in the afternoon. At first when I arrived, I wasn't sure if I had arrived in the right place! Parking was indeed at what seemed like the back of the building, but that's where the entrance was for the cafe. There was a lot of seating areas inside, including private rooms, well-lit areas with long tables, and an area that was made to feel cozy with couches and plush chairs. I wish there had been more food options, as I had to opt for a pre-packaged oat bar as a sweet snack. Would have been nice if they had cookies or something! For my drink, I had a matcha tea latte, made lightly sweetened at my request and with oat milk. Overall, we found the space a great place to sit down for a casual meet-up. It wasn't too loud or crowded, but perhaps these are factors that would make it favorable as a co-working space. read more

Came to Paper Co Cafe for the first time today, and I loved it! The place was pretty easy to find and had plenty of parking available. I came in on a Friday afternoon, and it was not crowded at all; just a few other patrons. Right when I walked in, I was stunned by how big the space was. It's a spacious, open concept, with tons of natural lighting. There's also a room off to the side that's a designated quiet area! I ordered the Sugar Cookie Latte, and it was great. Sweet and milky, but not too much so. I sat at one of the tables and just worked and read for a while. The music was a good volume, and I felt like I was able to be productive. Also, I was so impressed by the bathrooms! There are a ton of stalls, and it is super clean. Overall, I definitely recommend stopping by! This may become one of my regular spots. :) read more

Parking is tough on Sundays due to church. I got a nice Matcha latte and unfortunately, it tasted like a cup of milk. I wish they would've put more Matcha. This would be a great spot to study at, I'm not sure if they have Wi-Fi though. The natural lighting in here is amazing as well. Maybe next time I'll try their coffee. They have a lot of pastries, which are nice, but they are a little overpriced in my opinion. The barista were very sweet and nice. Let me set the scene: I walk in, very pregnant, with my business partners--three women, all professionals, just looking for a quiet corner to meet and grab a coffee. The moment we walked in, the energy was off. No greeting, no smile, not even a "how can I help you?" Instead, when I asked a simple question about an item in the case, I was met with a snippy "check the menu." When I followed up--because, plot twist, it wasn't on the menu--I was shut down again, as if I were asking for something outrageous. You know those cafes where the staff act like you're inconveniencing them by simply existing? That. Strike one. We asked for iced water. Not fancy, not sparkling, not chilled from the Alps. Just iced water. First we're told there's a water station, but when we ask if it has ice, we get a dismissive "No." Only for her to show up with a cup of ice moments later, expecting us to Frankenstein it together ourselves. Again--attitude, no courtesy, no effort. Strike two. The noise was unbearable. It sounded like someone next door was doing a live mic check for a garage concert. Every word blared through the wall. We were trying to conduct client calls, and between the yelling, loud music, and chaotic environment, it was almost comical--if it weren't so frustrating. It's like trying to work inside a blender. Strike three. When I asked whether the tea cake I ordered was supposed to be served ice-cold from the refrigerator (because it certainly tasted like it had been forgotten in the back of one), she looked me dead in the face and... turned around. No answer. Nothing. Just complete disregard. And to top it all off, 15 minutes before they close, while I'm mid-call with a client, she interrupts me not once, but twice, to ask if I plan to "box it up or toss it." I politely motioned that I'm on the phone, only for her to keep talking until I had to say, "Ma'am, I'm on a call." Her response? "Well, this is a public space." What does that even mean? By 3:55 PM--5 minutes before closing--we were literally standing outside in the rain, lights off, garage closed, trying to find another place to go. There was no grace, no "hey take your time," not even a fake smile. Just get out. Oh--and one of our team members had a coffee that tasted exactly like warm milk. When she mentioned it, the same woman grabbed the drink and walked away. No apology, no replacement, no explanation. Just another silent slap in the face. We were there barely an hour. Spent good money. Left with cold cake, watery coffee, and the aftertaste of disrespect. If you're hoping to get work done, have a thoughtful meeting, or just be treated like a human being--go literally anywhere else. A gas station coffee would have come with more warmth. Love the aesthetics of this cafe! Super great spot to get some work done or chat with friends. They've got a big space with plenty of tables and seating. The windows brighten up the place tremendously. They don't have many drinks to choose from. I got the matcha latte with vanilla & oat milk, and to be completely honest, it was not great. I would've preferred to make one at home. I could barely taste the matcha. It was too watery and milky. It tasted semi-better when I drank it with a straw. I tried my friend's iced mocha, and that was a better option. Flavors were still relatively subtle- chocolate was good and there was a hint of coffee. As for the chai, it was one of the worst chais I have ever had. It was literally like a cinnamon spice scented water. My friend couldn't even drink half of it before tossing it. Empanadas were delicious. Try them out! I will say the service was absolutely amazing. My friend was celebrating her bday, and they went out of their way to find a lighter for us. Iced honey vanilla latte w/pistachio milk - 8/10 - First time trying pistachio milk, it didnt have much of a flavor but made the drink creamy. For my sweet coffee drinkers, you might wanna get this extra sweet Hot chai with oat milk - 7.5/10 - This was good, basically a dirty chai but chai wasnt very strong or sweet so it lacked flavor Almond croissant - 9.5/10 - So tasty and soft. TLDR - Nice spacious coffee shop with good coffee and plenty of space to do work/meet friends. Paper Co has been around a while, but I think they've recently re-opened. I've been here before a long time ago before the recent re-opening, and today finally paid them another visit. As your GPS takes you here, you might get a little confused. It is in a big building that shares I think a church/school so just look for the PaperCO sign. There's plenty of parking all over. As you walk in, you'll notice that there's a lot of tables to do work. There's essentially a hallway with tables and chairs other than what's in front of the coffee counter itself. I also saw a few spaces that I assume are meeting rooms. We had our newborn and we were able to find a spot far away from a lot of people. The guy behind the counter was super nice. The coffee menu is actually pretty simple - your basic espresso based drinks and a few options for alt milk and syrups/flavors. Other than drinks, they also had croissants and other pastries. Oh, and they also have one flavor of Underground Creamery ice cream (IYKYK). I ordered a cortado and my wife got a capuccino. Both were properly made. I believe they use Tenfold for their espresso, so you know its a good local roaster! We also got a regular almond croissant for a whopping $9 - it was good but not $9 good. Overall, the coffee and the space is pretty cool. The pastries are a little overpriced though so I'd skip that. If you're looking for a place to get some work done, or meet with a friend or a few this place is a great option! I'll def be back! read more

I came here to do a little birthday celebration for one of my friends and this cafe is huge ! They have a study room with huge tables which is good if you're trying to do homework or study with a few friends. I liked that there was a parking lot available and you did not have to pay to park because usually in Houston you have to pay everywhere. My friends ordered the matcha and it was a little disappointing because they did not enjoy it, they informed me to order something else so I asked one of the staff members if it was possible to do oat milk in my chai and to make it as creamy as possible and he said no problem, but when I got my light iced chai it didn't taste creamy or anything. It literally just tasted like water. A lady came over to see if everything was okay and asked how my chai was and I told her it was watery and I originally asked for it to be creamy. I would've thought that after me saying that, they were going to make another chai for me but nope. They just said "when you come back next time we can do it for you." But I don't want to come back next time because I believe they could've made another one on the spot for me so that I would want to come back again another time. Am I wrong ?! Other than that one of the lady's on the staff was nice, she offered to take our pictures and got us some plates, a knife to cut our friend's birthday cake and some utensils. I picked up an order from ToGoodToGo, 2 empanadas and one was a classic with was regular beef and potatoes and the other was cheese, corn and jalapeño which were very taste and delicious. I also ordered a vanilla matcha iced coffee with oat milk. I really loved the quality of the matcha, I personally love sweet matcha but have been looking to cut down on the sweetness. The matcha was excellent tasting milky. Thought the only complaint I would have is that everything is an up-charge of .95 cents, which I would understand for the milk but not for the vanilla. This place is so cute and spacious! I'm a graduate student so I'm always looking for places to get some work done, and I appreciate how many tables there are! There are also outlets near the tables against the wall if you need them. The coffee is SO GOOD. I asked for an iced latte with their sugar cookie syrup and I didn't expect it to be so good and smooth, so I'm pleasantly surprised! The only reason I'm not giving it 5/5 is because of the hours :( it closes too early for me to be able to come to study after class, which sucks because I'd definitely swing by often if it was open later. However, the people here were horrible when we first got there wanting to get brunch. There were soooo many people spread out on their laptops in their own little worlds that we originally were going to have to sit at a high top awkwardly with others which changed what we were originally going to order since we didn't want to take up much space. Really great space in a spot that's simultaneously on the edge of downtown yet in bit of an industrial wasteland. Plenty of tables and seating (though the seats themselves aren't the most comfortable). Unfortunately, neither my coffee nor my meal was satisfying. The coffee was a little on the bitter side, but drinkable. My meal, however, was a real letdown. I got the daily common bowl, a chicken Mediterranean salad ($8). You can see in the photo that there wasn't much too it, with a scant amount of dry, flavorless chicken, and couscous that tasted strongly of raw turmeric. Parking is plenty as there is a private lot of decent size. Plus! You get an amazing view of DT Houston skyline. The place looked kinda empty, not sure but maybe they are remodeling? Heard it was good to get work done here, and I saw few people there. It was really quiet on a week day around 2pm ish. Just take the drive and you will know what I mean, especially when you the house on the curve that has literally fallen apart. Just past that curve and a right turn you will come up to what resembles a warehouse on your left...you are here. It is not only a coffee shop but a church also. Don't know much about the church, but have seen them do good deeds by feeding the local homeless people. The coffee/food section surprised me, how many coffee shops do you know that can throw down some tasty wings and burgers with their java...ummmm 1, this place. Visit paper co Saturday morning, the place is extremely nice, hipster industrial style if you like that, food was good, i liked the cheese they used on the fried sandwich, the only thing really why I didn't give it 5 was because the food took over 30min, my coffee wasn't that great ( you get your drinks when you order) for a place that looks as good as paper co I would expect the coffee to reflect that as well, and lastly they have on their menu that the jam they used is seasonal, i cant say if its true or not but I tasted like your classic store bought jam. Paper Co Cafe is truly one of the most underrated and underappreciated coffee shop here in the heart of Houston. It's located right outside of downtown Houston what's still known as the First Ward area. One of the truly fascinating fact about this coffee shop is that it's located in an industrial building that also house a church on the inside. One of Paper Co Cafe's mission is that they are here to help feed the homeless in the Houston community and provide a space for everyone. When you first enter, you would not believe there's a coffee shop in this warehouse building, but you will see there's plenty of seating of all sizes and great open area that it makes you just feels nice to be in this place. The price for their coffee is really good for it to be so close to downtown Houston. They also have hot food menu with a breakfast menu, the price is also really good for the quality of the food. I have tried most of the coffee there and a few of the food like the breakfast tacos, you will definitely get your money's worth. There's also free WiFi for people who would like to work in a coffee shop. If I have out of town friends visiting me, I will always have us getting coffee there. read more

I like to come and stay all day when I have work to do. Chargers are only available by wall, so just be aware of that when you pick your table. Ofc there's free wifi too. They now have plants hanging from the ceiling so it's beautiful. They also keep their bathrooms very clean! FOOD/COFFEE: You can buy surprisingly well made food at the counter (the kitchen is closed on Sundays). If you're on a budget, the kids menu items are less than $5 and comes with wonderfully seasoned fries. I LOVE their biscotti to dip into my coffee. Their lattes are good as well. If you check in on Yelp you can get 20% off a coffee drink. LOCATION: This is one of my all-time favorite coffee-shops in Houston. It's nestled by the highway and is in the same building as Ecclesia (a nondemoninational church). I know that some people think it's a little sketchy because sometimes those less well off hang out here, but I think it makes it a very authentic and welcoming space. Paper Co. boasts a decent coffee menu that includes delicious pour over and lattes. They also recently opened up their kitchen, which serves dinner from 6:30-9 PM on Thursday through Sunday nights. I haven't had a chance to try their food yet, but their menu looked promising, with items ranging from Italian to Asian fusion. Although it's relatively far from home (for me), Paper Co. shows a lot of promise and I see myself returning soon. Plus, everyone here is so friendly!
