It's a spacious, open concept, with tons of natural lighting. There's also a room off to the side that's a designated quiet area! I ordered the Sugar Cookie Latte, and it was great. Sweet and milky, but not too much so. I sat at one of the tables and just worked and read for a while. The music was a good volume, and I felt like I was able to be productive. Also, I was so impressed by the bathrooms! There are a ton of stalls, and it is super clean. Overall, I definitely recommend stopping by! This may become one of my regular spots. :)

HOWEVER... when I say staff, it was only ONE PERSON for a weekend morning, a prime time for early-morning workouts and people getting their weekends started. I was there with a fellow Yelp Elite-er, and first off, it took around 20-25 minutes just to order because she was stuck by herself trying to balance taking orders and actually making the orders. My friend and I were literally standing at the front for a good 10-15 minutes waiting. After that time it took to order, it was about another 30 minutes before we actually got our coffees. Do the math, and that's about an hour wait. We ended up taking our coffees to go. The coffee was fine - didn't blow me away to be like, oh hey that was worth an hour's wait. The one staffer was totally nice and I just felt so badly for her. Poor staffing decision on the part of Cafe Forth, for sure. Everything else is so nice, but the staffing part set things up for disappointment to where, it doesn't matter how nice and friendly and how great the vibes are - waiting an hour for a cup of coffee will lead to a disappointed customer.

I ordered everything hot except the Delight Matcha, which came as an iced slushy and was super refreshing. Each drink had its own personality, but the Island Latte stole the show for me. Made with espresso, coconut milk, and pandan, it had a smooth tropical twist that I could drink every day. The Mont Blanc was rich and earthy, combining charcoal, espresso, and milk. The Matcha Latte kept it classic with just matcha and milk, and the Cream Americano delivered exactly what it promised with a nice balance of bold and sweet. The Black Island had a deeper flavor with a subtle hint of pandan flavor that paired well with the charcoal. Parking is fairly easy, either on the street or in the visitor section of the garage. But in all my years as a Houstonian, I never made it out to their 2400 Karbach location... until now. I've been meeting up with a good friend weekly for coffee mostly on weekends, and we decided to try for a Friday morning so my Yelp search pulled up Katz. I had just read an article about Avi Katz (I'm a huge fan) in the Spring Branch magazine, so it was like it was meant to be! Now keep in mind they don't open until 9 am so it's not a good caffeine pick-me-up option for early risers nor those who need to get to the office before 9 am, but if you can make it during their business hours, it's certainly worth it. I'll walk you through the experience. I arrived to an empty parking lot at 8:45 am and sat in my car. Note: the lot isn't too big with limited spaces, but spots constantly open up after the morning rush) I started seeing other cars pull into the lot so I got out and hovered near the front door. By the time they opened (exactly at 9 am), the line was 10 people deep, but I was in front. I decided to go easy with a morning brew drip coffee so I wouldn't hold up the line behind me. And if you've read the reviews or you're familiar with how Katz's works - the coffee was free! That's my favorite f word. I sat down, enjoyed the nice ambiance (lots of seating and pleasant decor), chatted with my friend, and the rest is history. Staff are super nice and we chatted for a bit as well. I truly appreciate what Katz Coffee means to the local community, and I'll continue purchasing their high quality coffee beans to support the business, but also because I just really like their coffee. And if you read their story on their website, it's actually really inspiring how Katz Coffee really gives back to the community with non-profits and other worthy organizations. Astounding and mind-blowing, actually. Parking is a bit limited here, which is a bit similar to the parking nearby at Karbach Brewery, but the parking here IS better than Karbach Brewing, and just a heads up, the gate in the back does open to those exiting the lot, so don't feel pressured to have to park in the front area - you can park along the side with the Katz trucks which is along a one-way road. One downside is the place opens at 9am, which perhaps doesn't lend itself to the pre-work, get-the-day-started crowd. Then again, it's free coffee, so this is so so understandable because the crowd would likely build to unfathomable levels if the place opened at, say, 6am. Plus, come on - the baristas are doing their part making free coffee for the customers, so obviously there is some grace here. It feels like the get-the-day-started-at-9am crowd for free coffee does tend to arrive the minute the place opens, so a line does tend to build for the first bit but then kind of dips back down again after the initial rush - something to keep in mind when planning your visit. The vibe is fantastic. So many tables, easy place to camp out and work or meet up with people. Really earthy interior design. The service is also top notch. Keep in mind these people are giving us free coffee, which Katz certainly doesn't HAVE to do. The baristas today during my visit were SO friendly and SO welcoming. I started with a drip coffee, which came blazing hot and fresh. Didn't add any creamers or sugar, and it was great. Then, for variety purposes, I tried their pumpkin chai latte. Delicious again. And again... FREE. It really doesn't get any better than this for bang for the buck, while also supporting community causes in Houston. So for those visiting, it is encouraged to perhaps buy a bag of coffee beans, whether it be for yourself or as a gift for others. The beans are obviously of great quality, given the taste. My thought is all of us should do our part to help ensure Katz Coffee is able to sustain their generous (and tasty) ways as much as we possibly can.

Parking is suitable as the customers come and go quite often. The menu is expansive-- don't forget the coffee and drinks too! For the pastries, the croissants are always beautiful but the texture isn't what I'd call a typical croissant. I've tried the croissant swirls (circle croissants) and more traditional versions, and they have more of that soft bready texture of a grocery store croissant. Maybe reheating it at home makes it flakier? The cookie croissant is my favorite croissant even though I wouldn't consider it a true croissant based on texture alone (more of a soft buttery bread with cookie dough!). The cookies are big and thick but definitely on the softer side without much chew. I do love their cake jars-- the moist layers matched with a whipped frosting make an extra delicious treat! The overnight oats and chia puddings are extra tasty as well (more of a dessert :P) It's definitely busy-- besides for the dining experience, people come here to study, work, and hangout. There's a drive through but not sure how efficient that is, so try ordering through their website instead. There's also a loyalty program!
