Hardly anything is open during the week but I'm sure it's booming on the weekend. Now for the matcha...they have so many different varieties I had to try too! Segundo is located in a little marketplace-esque area in Eado. There's a large parking lot across the street, and I also saw a few cars parked on the side of the building - I'm assuming for quick coffee pickups. I got the canela shaken espresso with normal milk which is 2% instead of whole which I feel is more common for coffee shops. I could've done with a little less honey as the honey flavor was really strong, but otherwise it was a good drink. I also caved and got the chorizo and egg breakfast burrito. With some added cilantro and the green salsa, it was a very good breakfast burrito. My coffee was about $7 which is a bit up there, but I'd say any place is worth trying once! I really enjoyed visiting Segundo Coffee Lab. I like the industrial vibe, as it's located in Iron Works surrounded by other small businesses and shops. I tried the cold brew "cafe de olla" which was strong and bitter and topped with a vanilla, cinnamon cold foam. I came to Segundo to do work because it was about 10 minutes from where I live, and I've been hunting for new coffee shops to try. It's found in a modern, industrial building called Ironworks, and consists of several small vendors, studios, and office spaces, which is really neat! A nice third space, for sure, and there was plenty of space to lounge and work. Many of the boutique shops were expensive, though, so I'd treat them as window-shopping places rather than shops I'd actually spend money on. Unfortunately, I was pretty underwhelmed by my drink... I ordered the La Mexicana Iced Latte with oat milk, as I was told it was one of their most popular drinks. It was very creamy, not too sweet, and had a vanilla flavor. The coffee was so subtle that it felt like I was drinking straight milk at one point; I don't think I could justify spending $7.58 for how bland it tasted. I first tried Segundo's strawberry matcha in May 2024 last year (it was on their spring menu), and I was hoping it wasn't just a seasonal drink. There's a good amount of communal style seating indoor and some tables out front as well. I was excited to try their lattes and specials. I got one of the spring specials on their board called the Miel Rosada. It was a honey latte with rose cold foam and cocoa powder. It was overall not a bad iced latte, but the flavors were very subtle. I didn't get much honey, rose, or cocoa powder. My partner got a Thai especial latte, which has Thai tea flavor and some of the iconic orange color. Again, the flavors were more muted than we were hoping. Along with my latte, I grabbed a lemon poppy seed muffin. It's gigantic, has icing on top, and lots of poppyseeds inside. I enjoyed this more. You could probably split it among two people and be satisfied. Their strawberry cruffin was also tasty, and their counter has a variety of sweet and savory breakfast bites. I come here for this specific drink after my friend recommended it. I love it. Especially since I don't care for coffee taste and more for "how is this different in flavor," I get only one shot so if you share that mindset for coffee, this drink will satisfy you. I also get it with 2% milk (not lactose intolerant yet!) so it feels smooth but not too thick as I am a natural skim milk drinker. For their spooky menu, they have a ube coffee which was good that my partner got. The menu had a great selection of drinks and pastries, and I ended up going with the Café de Olla Cold Brew--absolutely delicious! I'm so glad I skipped Starbucks for this because the cinnamon cold foam was hands down the best I've ever had. I could easily drink 10 of these! #SLB My friend got the jasmine tea, and it was just as impressive. The raw honey added the perfect touch of sweetness. This is an awesome coffee shop tucked in the Ironworks building. I loved the variety on their menu, with unique drinks like Thai coffee and a hot chocolate coffee drink with a $1 charge for oat milk. I really enjoyed my drink, the Thai tea flavor is strong and the flavor is very apparent. The espresso does not overpower the Thai tea flavor, but it enhances the drink very well. My friends thought their drinks were just ok, but really liked mine. There's plenty of seating but not a lot of them have outlets. There's also free wifi. I wanted to love this place, especially after seeing such great reviews. Unfortunately, it was a huge disappointment. I'll start with the pros. There was a parking lot. I know that sounds like a silly thing to rave about but I've been to many places downtown that had inadequate parking and they had a nice size lot right across the street. They also give you the ability to order ahead so you don't have to stand in line. I also appreciated the fact that you can choose what kind of milk you want in your tea or coffee. I had great Taro milk tea with oat milk. As far as the cons, the line was long and in an odd place. I kept having to move out of peoples way so they could scan the app to skip the line or throw away trash. The service during ordering was subpar, it felt rushed and the cashier seemed a bit short. The food was the biggest disappointment. My partner ordered one sausage and one bacon breakfast taco. He didn't like it but he doesn't like lots of things so I didn't pay him much mind. But then I ate my jalapeño and queso tamale which was the worst tamale I've ever had in my life. It was mushy and had no flavor. I usually suck it up and eat food I don't like but I took it back. Luckily, the gentleman at the counter was kind enough to make me another. He said if I didn't like the second one I could get a refund. Unfortunately, I hated it but I decide to just throw it away. I also got a pork empanada which also lacked flavor but was at least edible. Overall, I was unimpressed with the food given the bland taste, unpleasant texture, and kids meal portion despite the adult prices. I likely won't return. read more
