Stopped by here while I'm the medical area. Had never been to a Filipino bakery so this was fun and delicious! Many pastries are ube flavored - I tried an Ube white chocolate chip cookie, pistachio/Ube croissant, flan, and a pork adobo bread. Everything I tried was tasty. The cookie was nice and soft, and the Ube flavor came through. The croissant was tasty, a bit sweet for my taste though. It was also not particularly flakey, so I would skip on this next time. The flan was delicious as was the meat filled bread. Overall I'd absolutely come back for other treats in the future!
Unique underrated bakery that you should be careful visiting. I wanted one thing - I got 8. I so far have only eaten the ube cookie and the almond croissant. The ube cookie was soft, a bit too sweet for my taste but it's a cookie so I don't know if that is a reasonable complain. I would say I would have liked a bit more ube flavor but ube is a hard favor to really make stand out. The almond croissant was perfect. The almond paste was just the right amount and the croissant flakey on the outside and fluffy on the inside. I'm both happy and sad I shared it. Coming here too often is dangerous for me but I love it and want to try the savory options next time.

I saw some flies in some of the food so I avoided that part. Definitely check this place out for Filipino snacks!
My mother and I were visiting family in Houston and decided to stop here for a quick breakfast and coffee since it was near our hotel. Hands down one of the best Filipino bakeries I've been to! Huge variety of baked goods with a great mixture of sweet and savory options. Everything we tried was delicious. For the siopao, you can even heat it up for a few seconds in the microwave. We loved the place so much that we came back for a second time and bought a bunch of goodies to take home as pasalubong. Highly recommend coming here. The space was huge but strangely had limited seating so it's more of a take out spot.

I have to put myself on a budget before I walk into this bakery. I'm so tempted to buy everything! Their shop is well lit with bakery shelves are lined with colorful Philippino desserts and food. If you have questions, ask the staff because they're all very friendly and helpful. I dropped in on Sunday and was delighted to find hot food such as pork asado siopao, palabok, arroz caldo, and so much more. The siopao was so soft and fluffy, felt like pillows and tasted delicious. I should've bought more, great for breakfast and snacking. This was my first time trying palabok and I loved it with the squeeze of lime. The arroz caldo was thicker than I'm used to so I had to add a little bit of water to thin out the soup. Otherwise, it tastes great as well. I loaded up on desserts such as the fried turon, Suman Cassava Ube, and Suman Malagkit. All were great snacking but my favorite is the halo halo - must try. I've tried their choco Milo coffee drink (hot) and find it to be overly sweet, even when asked for less sweet. There is plenty of parking spaces, easy to stop by to grab and go. There are a few seats available to dine-in. Prices are very reasonable.

I'd come to the Baker's Son a couple years ago and remember it being just ok but decided to give it another try. The Baker's Son has two locations in Houston now with the same owners. I had high hopes for both this month but was ultimately left disappointed. The Sugarland location closed for a while due to a fire, and they made no mention/posts of it on any of their social media which was frustrating as I drove all the way there for some pastries and drinks from their coffee shop. I made my way to this location another day to try their Dubai chocolate croissant and Ube pistachio croissant. Neither had much pistachio flavor and the kunafe in the Dubai chocolate croissant was very hard. They did give a good amount of filling in the Dubai croissant though. The pistachio ube croissant was very colorful but also lacked any flavor besides sweet. I also wanted some Pandan flavored items that I had seen on the website, but there were none out in the bakery and when I asked the employees said that they don't carry those items anymore. The website should be updated to reflect this. I did see a Pandan drink on the menu here, but they said they had no non dairy options which was again a let down. A couple years ago I had tried a few different items - a kakanin sampler (variety of desserts, all of which were okay), biko sm (very very sweet sticky rice), and pandan macapuno tart (kind of like a shortbread cookie with coconut filling? Tasted okay but didn't have a strong pandan flavor). Parking was easy as they have a small parking or right outside. Service was fast, and the ambience is casual with a small area now to enjoy your baked goods.
This was a complete hidden gem in the Houston community!! I told my friend I loved ube and he delivered! They had so many amazing treats at great prices. My favorites were the ube roll cake and the ube cream bread.
Came here for the pandesal, but stayed for the incredible variety of Filipino desserts! I grew up loving freshly baked pandesal that my aunt would buy me from the local neighborhood bakery in Manila. When I was back in the States, it was impossible for me to find pandesal even half as good as what I was used to until I had some from Valerio's bakeshop in LA. They don't have any Houston locations, so when I moved back here I felt sad knowing I wouldn't have regular access to freshly baked pandesal anymore. Then I was so excited to hear that the Valerio family was opening this new bakery, with a location here in Houston! I was initially bummed to find that they don't serve freshly baked pandesal the way I'd come to expect from Valerio's (they are baked to sell packaged, not fresh at the counter), but instead, I was amazed by the sheer variety of baked goods they offered, both traditional and modern. Most of their goods are pre-packaged except for the center display and the front counter, where it looks like they sell more freshly made items. I especially enjoyed browsing the center display which was filled with croissants, cookies, and ensaymadas, ranging in flavors from traditional plain to adventurous/trending flavors like ube-pistachio. It's a bit of a contrast compared to Valerio's, which to my memory sold mostly traditional Filipino baked goods. The interior is very spacious. There are a few seating areas off to the side but it's not really designed to sit and stay awhile. Parking lot is large and shares space with other Filipino/Fil-Am businesses like Jollibee and Max's Restaurant. Everything I've tried here so far has been super delicious with beautiful textures, even after taking them home and eating them a few days old. I highly recommend the pistachio-ube croissant, Biscoff ensaymada, and Korean cream cheese garlic bread. They also have a large cafe drinks menu which I didn't have the gastrointestinal real estate to try at the time, but really hope I can soon! Ambiance: 5/5 Food: 5/5 Service: 5/5
Review on the "Dubai Croissant" is refreshing but on the heavy side. The chocolate was well distributed, the pistachio were just not crunchy, solely because I waited a few hours before I ate them and got the pre-packed as opposed to the ones they have displayed on their glass counters. So, having them later may change the consistency of the pistachios. The filling was really heavy so, having half is sufficient for me and may be for others. Four and a half stars for the Dubai croissant. Will try the other flavors for next time.
Amazing selection with great prices!! I got the ube coffee cake. Best coffee cake I have ever tried. The purple is so vibrant. THE CAKE WAS SOOOOOO MOIST AND IT WASN'T OVERLY SWEET. The crumble on top was too good. Pair it with a cup of coffee in the morning... literally can't ask for more than that. The inside is relatively big with shelves all around full of pastries. The employees are friendly!!

So my coworker would always bring ube bread for me to work and I finally got her to give up where she goes. She told me to go to the bakers son and make sure I go early because they do sale out and people buy in bulk. I entered with intentions of only getting the ube bread but $40 and 5 items later I went slightly overboard. They have so many items and they all look delicious. The customer service was great and prices were really good. Now to the items, the ube bread is phenomenal, soft, sweet, flavorful 10/10. I also got a biscoff bread sandwich (I'm forget the name) which had the softest and most perfect bread I've ever indulged in. Now to what the employees recommended and the absolute star. The ube Swiss roll. Omg, it was phenomenal. 20 out of 10! It was perfect in every way. I live 30 mins away but will make sure to keep The Bakers Son on a must go place weekly! read more

Came here a few times now. Lots of Filipino desserts and pastries made fresh to include refreshing drinks. We grabbed a bunch of ube flavored pastries which is our favorite especially the ones with the cream cheese filled ones. Staff is fast and friendly. Lots of things to choose from. Lots of parking and a few tables to chill at. read more

As a fellow Filipino, I love this bakery! They have lots of traditional and fun Filipino drinks and pastries. I tried the ube matcha and couldn't really taste the matcha, but the ube was amazing. I do wish they had alternative non-dairy options. I highly recommend trying anything with ube and the Spanish bread. There's lots of free parking and it's close to other Filipino restaurants such as Jollibee. I can't wait to go back when I'm in Houston! read more

I'm glad that there's an Asian bakery close-ish to me and seems I lucked out with having this Filipino bakery. Its a mostly, pick and choose your own bread/baked goods type place but they also have some drinks and desserts you can order up front. I've tried a few of their drinks as well (buko pandan, various calamansi drinks) and they're good but quite a bit sweet for my personal tastes. Flavor-wise they're great. The baked goods have all been a hit for me, with all the various ube flavored treats as well as just regular pan de sal, I love to just get some nice, fluffy buns. The ube pistachio croissant was also a nice surprise. Prices are fair for everything. read more

After a few visits, I have tried about everything available, and I am a big fan! The items sold are appeasing to the eye and receives the highest bakery compliment possible from an Asian: not too sweet. The packaging of the items are intricate, and the service is extraordinary! The bakery appears to be family run, and the ambience shows; I definitely feel taken care of from the moment I step in, just like when you enter a relative's house. Although I'm not Filipino, I appreciate the treat selection and all the ube options as many of the treat concepts are similar across Asian countries. As a baker myself, I also know that some of the treats look easy, but can be hard to reach the perfection that has been met by Baker's Son. I surely will be returning to here again and again. Pro tip: if you are new to the bakery, I suggest purchasing one of the dessert sampler boxes. read more
This bakery is right next to jollibee and the two were destined to be neighbors. The baker's son is amazing. They have so many yummy treats. I got the buko pandan drink, Dubai chocolate croissant, and ube pistachio croissant. I enjoyed every bit of what I got. I wished I lived closer so I could come here at least once a week! read more

My family and I only stopped in to grab to go items bc we were in a rush. NO ONE TOLD ME ... they had this DUBAI Chocolate Croissant and it was the BEST THING EVER! I wish I didn't live 45 min away bc it was the BEST THING EVER. We love their pandasals, cheese ensemayda, babinka with egg.... These are our staples. Despite opening in late 2022, the hype for The Baker's Son by Valerio's has remained constant with budding Houston Filipino community. In terms of quality, selection, and price (#1) no other place comes close. It is by far the most extensive Filipino bakery in the city. With a super successful location in Jacksonville, FL, this location caught the eyes of owners Jun and Kathleen, as a central hub for what is now known as Lil Manila square. This is a genius move and I hope the area continues to expand. The list of items they serve is so substantial that I can't begin to break down their selection. There are freshly baked goods on display, along with ones that sit on the shelves and refrigerator, and a separate drink area as well. Ube lovers will appreciate the immense variety as there is a lot of purple in so many of the pastries and drinks. Equally impressive is the bustling Filipino staff in the back, non-stop baking and churning out freshly made goods. Among the many things I've enjoyed: hopia, siopao, empanadas, sapin sapin, ube pan de sal, turon, ube oreo tres leches, ube loafs, pandan macapuno tarts, bibingka w/salted egg, crinkles, piayas, and pork sisig buns. Their halo halo and ube shakes are decent, but I really like the buko pandan. A really nice one is the iced ube matcha latte, a rare find in these parts. Parking isn't exactly vast, but the constant in and out traffic means a spot will eventually open up. The fact there is no seating available means it's strictly a takeout spot. The lines on the weekend can be intense at times, but it always moves quickly. Whether it's for a casual pick-me-up drink, a snack while waiting in traffic on Main, or a potluck contribution, I'll always find a reason to come back. __________ (#1) Not saying they're low or anything. read more
Stopped by on a Saturday morning and WOW. I'm not familiar with Filipino bakery goodies and now I'm a fan. The space was huge and clean. Service was super friendly. Ok now the food! Ube is a purple yam and is used in many of the offerings. It makes everything a beautiful violet color. And it tastes amazing. Sweet but not overly so. Kind of like an orange yam vibe. I got pistachio ube croissant. Huge and delicious. Pared with mocha latte. My date got a Dubai Chocolate "Knafeh" Croissant. Giant, super rich, filled with crunchy pistachio filling. I'm totally getting that next time! He also got the Ube latte- once PSL season is over, I'm converting to Ube lattes. read more

I was so excited to finally check out this bakery! It's located within a complex with other Asian eateries & grocery store that has a good size parking lot. The bakery is very big and looked immensely stocked with so many goodies that I didn't even know where to start! The staff immediately greeted me upon entering which I always appreciate as a first time customer. The overhead music was upbeat and I enjoyed it while perusing the many, many options of baked snacks. This place was like ube heaven! There is also a refrigerated area for cold treats & a good selection of drinks! They also had a very cute small sitting area. There were small samples at check out too. I ended up getting the ube white chocolate chip cookie for my son, ube cheese tart & beef empanadas for me. My son couldn't even wait to take a bite as we walked back to our car & greatly enjoyed it. I really liked the ube cheese tart which came in a pack of 3. The beef empanada had a little more sweetness flavor to me than I'm used to but I'm excited to return and try many more things as well as a drink next time! read more

Hands down my go to bakery for Filipino goodies!!!! They have a bunch of options from traditional Filipino desserts to fusion desserts with popular ingredients like Oreo + biscoff!!! If you have ever wanted to try Ube this is the perfect spot for you!!! Their Ube pandesal is sooo soft and it's not overly sweet!!! I also love their Ube and cream cheese crumble's! What I love about this bakery is that they have every pastry labeled with the name of the dessert, a description, and pricing!!! This is very convenient in case you aren't familiar with their pastries as well as avoiding any "surprises" at the register. The employees are very welcoming and greet everyone that walks in. Thanks to my Yelper friend Clynton M's review that drew my attention to The Baker's Son by Valerio's. I absolutely love everything about this bakery. It's located at the newly-built storefront of Pinoy Corner in the Medical Center area. I came here one day after my doctor's appointment. There weren't many people at the restaurant. So, I took my time to browse everything. I could smell the ube baking aroma from the moment I opened the door. I spent about $45 on all kinds of goodies. I love the sampling trays. I got to taste a variety of Kakanin (sticky rice snacks) without buying several boxes. Another thing I love about how it operates is there are 2 different sizes of packaging, big and small. I've had a countless number of tasty Filipino pastries from Valerio's, but it has taken me way too long to actually visit the store in person till now. Walking in, you're hit with that freshly baked bread smell. Heaven. Baker's Son is probably the best Filipino bakery in Houston, and for good reason. Their selection of Filipino treats is unmatched. Ube has started to become "mainstream" now, but ube anything is so nostalgic to me from growing up as a kid. My favorite thing being their ube cheese rolls. Warm them up for like 15 seconds and the gooey ube filling is my favorite bite. Even if you're not Filipino, you need to check this bakery out. They have refreshing calamansi juice, hopia baboy, ube oreo shakes, fresh pandesal, and so much more. 10/10 would recommend, try everything! read more

My partner and I really enjoy visits to the Baker's Son. They have so many Filipino baked goods that are fresh made from scratch. On our most recent trip, we both were in awe of the mango coffee cake and just had to take it home. The mango was subtle but the cake was very tender and done well. We've also had some of their ube rolls in the past, which are equally delicious and satisfyingly sweet. There are even more savory, protein based options. As you can see from the photos, there is really something for everyone. Their drinks are refreshing and seem to be made with fresh fruit juice (they are a bit sweeter than standard boba) with my favorite being the passionfruit calamanasi. I've yet to try their coffee or lattes, but I'm eager to in the future. The Baker's Son is my favorite spot to go for filipino desserts! Everything is soo fresh and delicious and they have a great variety of filipino desserts. Inside is clean, spacious and there's plenty of parking. - calamansi juice: 10/10 Omg this drink was SO SO good and SUPER refreshing! It has a distinct sugary citrus scent and just the right amount of sweetness! Literally the perfect drink on any hot days. - hot dog bread.. ( we forgot the right name of this) : 8/10 Good savory pastry, however it was kind of greasy. - halo halo: 9/10 Really good and not too sweet! I loved that they added a leche flan which added to the overall richness and creaminess of the halo halo I'd definitely come back and bring my family and friends here to try Filipino desserts! This food is amazing. The ubie OMG. When I say perfect I mean PERFECT. Not too sweet but just right. I was pleasantly surprised. The staff is really nice and service is great. It's very clean and sanatized in there. They had these honey cheese pepperoni mini pizzas. My goodness it was a another great surprise. It's something about the bread that can cause you to eat a million of them. This is all coming from a person who is not a bread or pastry eater like that. Therefore if you love bread you would be in heaven bc I was definitely in heaven. I will definitely be back. read more

It's similar but not the same. They do carry the different varieties of Pan De Sals and Siopaos. However, the Baker's Son has a wider variety of traditional items and more freshly baked items in general. This Houston location is better than any of…

Biko is made from sweet/glutinous rice, brown sugar, and coconut milk. Sapin-sapin is sweet/glutinous rice flour, coconut milk, and sugar. Those are a few items I can think of.
