Shakkar is the only bakery at POST and has a monthly rotating menu, usually with a selection of pretty croissants, cheesecakes, tarts, cookies, and tiramisus. They're open late for a bakery (to 9 pm) which is unheard of! ~ Chai cruffin (4.5/5)-- The croissant lamination on that cruffin was amazing! There was definitely a bit of that spiced aroma and it wasn't very sweet. I'd love it more if it was sweeter :) ~ Strawberry cinnamon roll (4/5)-- the bread portion was a bit dry, but I almost didn't mind because of the delicious sweet topping. Eaten together, it was still a yummy combo is sweet cream. My sister and I both agreed that the cinnamon flavor could be a lot stronger. ~ Strawberry shortcake croissant (2/5)-- this is probably user error as I really dislike strawberry milk and the filling tasted exactly like that and artificial to me. I was expecting more of a cream + strawberry jam/puree filing (like on the strawberry cinnamon roll), but strawberry milk fans would enjoy this. The actual croissant part was pretty and was soft inside. It didn't really taste like anything the first few bites until I got hit by that strawberry milk filling. ~ Tomato chutney kougin (5/5)-- for me to really enjoy a savory pastry, it must be good. And this one was such a nice slightly sweet but also savory tomato flavor! I would totally get this again, and MT absolutely loved this heated up. Come for the pastries! With Shakkar, we are talking options like a strawberry matcha croissant and cinnamon rolls. I got the biscoff cheesecake and it was smooth with a strong, forward biscoff flavor. Prices are on the higher end, so come with that expectation, but the pastry quality justifies it. On my continued bakery hunt, I finally tried Shakkar at POST. I happened to be there for a yoga event so it was nice to come down and get a quick bite. Its a small stand in the POST foodhall portion and service was friendly. You can see the various baked goods and you order what you want. They also have an assortment of drinks but I didn't try any. I ended up getting the rose pistachio croissant and was a bit disappointed. For a croissant that expensive, I was hoping it would stand out. It wasn't a super flakey croissant (perhaps I got it too late in the morning) and there wasn't much to make it "rose pistachio" outside of a smidge of cream they put at the top of the croissant (see pic for reference). This is a female and Pakistani-owned business that I believed started out as a pop up that serviced a coffee shop in Houston. Shakkar brought cube croissants to Houston. It's nice to see that they've opened up in POST. The south-asian croissants are particularly interesting. The tomato chutney one was a little sweet and savory and would be a good try if you are feeling adventurous. Otherwise, easy sure-fire options are the dum ka keema (ground beef) croissant, the aaloo (potatoe) croissant, or the Parle G croissant. Parle G is a sweet cracker or biscuit that is a common household staple in South Asian households so this would be a sweet option. All in all a good business to support. The crunchy, flakiness of the pastry is perfection. I would just say the buttery flavor doesnt come through as much as I would hope but quality of the products are incredible and truly hand crafted. This is the second time I've been to this location. I can't remember what we got the first time but I remember it being good. It's just been a long time. Today I went with the red velvet cupcake, and it was simply amazing. Every single bite was full of flavor. The cupcake was so moist. I like how they use the quality cream cheese, Eissing. My God every bite was amazing. I really enjoyed the cupcake a lot! I hope they offer more cupcakes here because I know croissants are their thing but let me tell you their cupcake was phenomenal! One of the best I've had in a long time! I will definitely come back and try more things off their menu. Everything was top-notch. Great customer service as well. I was strolling through the POST before heading to a concert and had a craving for dessert. I've always seen Shakkar's giant croissants all over Instagram, so I had to check it out. Their display immediately caught my eye! When I asked the employee which he'd recommend--the s'mores croissant cube or the crème brûlée croissant tart--he gave me the pros of both . I still couldn't decide, so he nicely offered me a sample of the crème brûlée. How nice was that?! The sample pieces were surprisingly generous. Creamy, gooey, with a perfectly crisp sugar layer on top, and the flaky croissant crust was just perfection. After that taste, I knew I had to go with the s'mores cube since I'd already had a preview of the crème brûlée! We took the cube home and warmed it up in the microwave, and OMG... it was pure gooey chocolate goodness combined with the buttery, flaky layers of a croissant. We were pleasantly surprised to find this great French bakery in Post Houston. We are big fans of great croissants, and this place was among the best we've had. My wife had the chocolate croissant and I had the morning bun, and they both had great flavor and texture. I loved the combination of crispy outside and chewy inside. This bakery is inside the POST food hall and it a bit pricey, $10 for a slice. The plain croissant in the picture can feed 15 people which is crazy. Was my first time trying Shakkar & we decided we wanted some cheesecake. Food was delicious but service was awfully rude. Young short girl, no hello or a greeting throughout the whole interaction, she rolled her eyes at some point. Didn't tell us our total or anything at all. This bakery really just makes you want to try everything! Displays are so clean and organized. Take my review with a grain of salt because it's based on the cookies only. I got the "Negative double chocolate chip cookies" and the snickerdoodle. The snickerdoodle is light and fluffy--pretty standard, nothing too exciting. It was also rewarmed which now looking back, could be interpreted as not freshly baked. Yes I am speculating here. But no excuses for the double chocolate chip cookie. I asked if the cookie was cakey and was led to believe it would be gooey and extremely chocolatey which I interpreted as dense and rich. It was crunchy even in the middle which was at least 1.5 inch thick. I still have a brownie croissant to try but I don't want to be too hopeful. Service was 10/10. Ambiance 10/10. Food 4/10 read more
