On my continued bakery hunt, I finally tried Shakkar at POST. I happened to be there for a yoga event so it was nice to come down and get a quick bite. Its a small stand in the POST foodhall portion and service was friendly. You can see the various baked goods and you order what you want. They also have an assortment of drinks but I didn't try any. I ended up getting the rose pistachio croissant and was a bit disappointed. For a croissant that expensive, I was hoping it would stand out. It wasn't a super flakey croissant (perhaps I got it too late in the morning) and there wasn't much to make it "rose pistachio" outside of a smidge of cream they put at the top of the croissant (see pic for reference). Perhaps their other baked goods are better or worth the cost or done better but I would say so far, I've been let down.

This is a female and Pakistani-owned business that I believed started out as a pop up that serviced a coffee shop in Houston. Shakkar brought cube croissants to Houston. It's nice to see that they've opened up in POST. The south-asian croissants are particularly interesting. The tomato chutney one was a little sweet and savory and would be a good try if you are feeling adventurous. Otherwise, easy sure-fire options are the dum ka keema (ground beef) croissant, the aaloo (potatoe) croissant, or the Parle G croissant. Parle G is a sweet cracker or biscuit that is a common household staple in South Asian households so this would be a sweet option. All in all a good business to support. The crunchy, flakiness of the pastry is perfection. I would just say the buttery flavor doesnt come through as much as I would hope but quality of the products are incredible and truly hand crafted. Price point is $7-9 for the baked items.

This is the second time I've been to this location. I can't remember what we got the first time but I remember it being good. It's just been a long time. Today I went with the red velvet cupcake, and it was simply amazing. Every single bite was full of flavor. The cupcake was so moist. I like how they use the quality cream cheese, Eissing. My God every bite was amazing. I really enjoyed the cupcake a lot! I hope they offer more cupcakes here because I know croissants are their thing but let me tell you their cupcake was phenomenal! One of the best I've had in a long time! I will definitely come back and try more things off their menu. Everything was top-notch. Great customer service as well. I believe the owner was there working and she was extremely nice and very personal. Do yourself a favor stop in and try their treats. They're amazing. Also, it's always nice to support local businesses. !

I finally got to try this place. I usually get here too late but was it worth the 20 minute wait in line! I ordered the Banana chocolate croissant and it delivered in crispness and rich taste! It helps that I was distracted by everything going on at post! There's so much more I can't try now but I will be back!

Kerry was super nice and she even let us sample some of their in house made croissants. The vibe of the store was clean and aesthetic as well. I totally recommend stopping by and getting a little treat for yourself, you won't be disappointed!

    $9 cube...

so disappointed, i was REALLLLY looking forward to the famous cube and even got there 10 minutes after they opened in hopes of getting a good one. $9, NINE DOLLARS, for an old stale piece of bread. Chai filling didn't taste like much so it was just like eating the butt of an old bread loaf. Not fresh, not $9 worth, not returning to Shakkar. Also got a coffee that wasn't priced correctly on the menu & just tasted of burnt espresso

Dear Shakkar, I was wide open for you. 'Pressed'as the kids say. I love bread more than anything and a good croissant? I die. I came to Post too early, sat at that cute lil coffee shop waiting for yall to open. 'No matter', I thought, 'I'll get the freshest thang out the oven!'. Well, the display is lovely, I ordered a couple things but kept my gaze steady on the block of croissant offering. Sadly, I was underwhelmed. It was hard. It was sticky on the bottom. No butter favor. I'm open to trying again bc I hear they have croissant bouquets. I need one. Love, Britt. Two word review: second date?

This bakery is inside the POST food hall and it a bit pricey, $10 for a slice. The plain croissant in the picture can feed 15 people which is crazy. I purchased a regular croissant with almond filling which was good. I also bought the French butter they have but it doesn't taste no different than regular butter.

    Best matcha latte!

Friendly staff & prompt service! Ordered an iced vanilla matcha latte, and it's by far the best one I've had yet from any coffeeshop. Perfect green color & very balanced and smooth in taste. Highly recommend!!

Curdled / spoiled milk with date a week ago on it.

Here on a Sunday morning. Ordered 3 coffees. Girl was extremely cold & rude. Acted like we interrupted her and she didn't want to make them. As she was finishing we noticed this squeeze bottle on the counter with Half & Half that was obviously curdled & stuck to insides of container. We smelled it and it was rotten!! When we told her, she acted mad and took it to the back and threw it down somewhere. Our lattes tasted icky and we threw them out. Hope we don't get sick. Beware, appears to be horrible sanitation practices here.

Butter croissant , almond twice baked , morning cinny bun !

OMG best bakery ive been to!! you should definitely swing by and get some croissants , they are crunchy but soft on the inside 10/10

Thankfully, Mark was there and initially was told a 35 minute wait but seemed intent by quicker. Ambiance: 4/5 It was breakfast time so of course it was a busy time. For my visit, it was crowded but not to where you couldn't hear your table. Dress is casual, good for friends, solo, or pit stop. Service: 5/5 Our waitress was very knowledgeable and friendly. Since it was our first visit there, she gave us some background that it was a Pappa's owned restaurant and food is made from scratch. Food: 3/5 They offer mimosas and I was tempted to order, but was driving and it was 9AM so forewent that option. There are food options for every tastebud. Mark ordered the fried cheese sticks, they were one of the items that I found worthwhile to return for. I opted for the Waffle feast. It included a waffle, that I added pecans on top to, two strips of bacon, eggs your way and hash browns. To say that I needed to add salt and pepper to the eggs and hash browns because they tasted bland and flavorless was unfortunate. It also was served at room temperature, because it was made from scratch, would think it be warmer to hot. The waffle was savory and had good mix and topped with the pecans made it even better. If you're on this side of town and want a change up from the "other breakfast diners" DOT would be where I stop. Fast, friendly service. Depending the food you get, it gets the job done for some sustenance to hold you over when you're not sure when your next meal is because you'll be in Galveston for 7 hours riding a float in the Mardi Gras parade.

I wanted to start with one biscuit, but the biscuits come in pairs. The waitress said I could order just one anyway, but the order ended up being two. I meant to save the second one for breakfast, but that was not to be. It did not survive long enough to make it out the door. My actual meal was a bacon swiss and mushroom burger, which was excellent. Between the biscuits and the burger, I am forced to acknowledge that it was entirely too much food. Sadly, that did not prevent me from eating all of it anyway. Delicious! The restaurant, which is a diner with very basic decor, is on an approach road to IAH, and is open 24/7. When I arrived in the evening, the place was empty. By the time I left, there were a whole bunch of customers. I noticed in other reviews that people were saying they did not receive checks for their meal and felt they were over-charged at the register. I did not receive a check either, but the amount I was charged at the register seemed accurate -- and I was paying attention because I had read the other reviews first.

I was catching up with my sister, we were there about 5 hours and the restaurant was empty. A mature-aged Asian woman came in, spotted the restroom door, and proceeded to it. The manager/owner (older man with balding hair) RAPIDLY went from the other side of the restaurant to intercept the woman right at the restroom entrance. He asked her what she needed, she told him to use the restroom, he then asked if she needed a table. When she replied "no", he stated that restrooms are for paying customers only. She was embarrassed, froze, said "Okay", and walked towards the exit. The guy saw my sister and I watching this unfold with screwfaces, so he tells the woman at the exit "Well go ahead and use it, you're already in here, I guess". While she was in the restroom he made a sign about their restroom stance and was taping it to the front door as the woman was exiting the building. We left immediately also. A business has the right to have such a ridiculous regulation, but this woman was dressed clean and came from a Lexus SUV. She wasn't homeless or some street prostitute that might be reckless in a public restroom. The idiot guy was petty, rude, inconsiderate, cold, and careless. I refuse to spend money at an establishment run by such a person.

Our server was also very nice, and super helpful as I asked for a wine suggestion and she hit the nail with her suggestion. She brought a small sample for me to try before serving it. The food itself was delicious! We got the onion rings appetizer, and you could tell they were made to order. They were super fresh and also crispy. The chicken parmigiana was good, and they were not stingy with their portions at all. The picture I took doesn't do the dish justice. I will definitely go back to this place, as their food, service and overall experience is a great one when you dine in.

We shared a bowl of the potato soup where we had no expectations and I thought it tasted pretty decent. But the real test was the entrees. Mr. Picky ordered the Fettuccine Alfredo with shrimp while I opted for Veal Parmigiana, and we each stole a bite from the other's plate. We reached consensus immediately that both dishes were well-seasoned and quite delicious, meaning we would return for more good food in the future. Seriously, we hadn't expected much when walking in and looking around, but were pleasantly surprised at the kitchen's efforts. We finished lunch with an order of homemade bread pudding and tiramisu, the latter of which in 2012 won a chamber of commerce epicurean competition 1st place ribbon. I wasn't there to judge that competition and have had better, but sincerely appreciated the moistness of the bread pudding. While the majority of diners were older and a more mature crowd, there's a lot to be said for value, and we thought the menu price was better than reasonable and I think a lot of people will discover this as a value destination, something we all appreciate.
