    Butter Croissant

We arrived to Magnol about an hour before they were closed and left a bit disappointed. Upon entering, they didn't really have much left but we understood that as it's popular and we were getting there later in the day. With the limited selection, I got a butter croissant and my boyfriend got a chocolate croissant! The butter croissant was crispy and tasted good but wasn't as good as some of the ones I've tried elsewhere more recently. My boyfriend's croissant was much too soft (no flakiness) and it was clear it had been made upon opening and just left to sit. They were also out of ice so that meant none of their iced drinks (iced coffee too) were available. For a positive though, the staff was friendly and the inside was clean. All in all, it was OK but I'll likely stick with other bakeries.

Magnol is recommend on many posts, and Mademoiselle Louise is closed two days in a week, so I decided to give it a try. Croissants are good, I prefer a thicker and crunchier outer later. But very close to being authentic. You can see pastry chefs working hard through the glass window. Most people get a lot of breads and croissants to go There are small tables outside but it is just too hot and uncomfortable to sit outside.

I can't believe I never found this gem before! Stopped in for the first time today to grab a baguette. Well, I bought 2. An Artisan Baguette and an Epi Baguette. They were delicious! The right amount of crunch, the right amount of fluffy. Just perfect!!! I also ordered a chocolate croissant to "test it out." I am extremely picky when it comes to my croissants. While it looked like I may not like it (very dark outside) I was pleasantly shocked by the inside. It might have been one of the fluffiest and lightest croissant I have ever ate.....all over the world. And the chocolate was a nice room temp melted/soft texture that was perfect! I don't care for the hard bar of chocolate down the middle that you find at some bakeries. Or any type of glaze on the outside that adds too much sweetness. This was made to perfection. The bakery is a tiny little shop, and they were a little busy for an early-ish Sunday morning. 2 ladies working the orders and another lady making drinks. However, when a small line started to form, a young man quickly came out of nowhere to take orders as well. Seemed like an efficiently ran place. A little out of the way, and you won't find them "just driving by," but this place is a MUST if you are looking for AMAZING bread.....something I finally gave up on in H-Town until now.

Inside of a random plaza you'll find a nice French comforting bakery. The Baguette was crispy on the outside and so soft inside. Smells amazing inside. Almost nostalgic , and the pastries were made with detail and care. Lemon Meringue Tart was my personal favorite. But the textures were amazing throughout the different desserts.

I'm such a sucker for this place. I don't think I have anything bad from here. I love both the pastries along with bread. The loaves have been so good for sandwiches or just to eat. We may barely make it out of the parking lot without wanting to try it out. I like the coffees and teas too. I would suggest going in with an open mind. The service is quick. And a sweet cafe feel.

You have to get to Magnol early because they sell out of their pastries pretty quickly. We got there around 10am on a Sunday and they had already sold out of a few that we wanted to try. It's a small space with a few tables indoors and some tables outside as well. We sat outside as they were already at capacity indoors. The opera cake was excellent and their cannele was good, but I would skip the croissants next time. Their lemon meringue tart was also nice and tart and the textures of the custard and meringue were good, but the pastry shell was a bit tough. One thing I wish they did was display their prices. We ordered at the counter and there were no prices posted in the display case and we were not offered a menu nor a receipt. They weren't serving any beverages when we went because they were having issues with their water supply in the building. I'd like to go back and try their drinks and other pastries.

It a nice hidden gem! The place has a few seating areas. It's great to sit outside and enjoy a coffee! Delicious bread, especially the olive bread and cranberry walnut!!! Wish they made vegan pastries! My cousin had the chocolate croissant and said it was amazing! Their coffees service is fast and they are nice. Go early in the weekends because there will be a line!! They get pretty busy.

We showed up 45 min before closing and the place was pretty busy but also really picked over. For the hype this place got I wouldn't return. I loved the cinnamon roll and the regular croissant but would I return, no. I didn't love the other two pastries. Hazelnut one and a coffee opera cake. I will stick with Common Bond.

I like this place but I am not a full blown fangirl. I've been twice and the first time I tried a baguette, croissant, chocolate croissant, French onion croissant, mini almond croissant, and the star of the day--the pear caramel danish. Everything was average except for the French onion croissant and the pear caramel danish. The danish in particular was divine! However, the mini almond croissant was almost crunchy, it was so overbaked. The second time I tried the banana hazelnut pastry, a batard, ham and cheese on thick cut bread, and another big winner--the flakey cinnamon roll. Yet again, everything was average but that cinnamon roll. The cream cheese frosting was perfect and on the light and airy (not doughy) roll, it was amazing. Coming in last was the banana hazelnut pastry. I just wasn't loving the combination of flavors with that one. Their lattes are good but nothing special. They only have vanilla or mocha as options. I feel like what's been good was really amazing and made me want to get every last bite. But most everything else was just okay.

Tucked away in a small strip center is a hidden gem... Magnol French Baking could become your new go to, you need to give it a try. I just went there for bread but ended up getting a regular croissant and chocolate booth a crispy, flakey buttery treats. I also got a sourdough loaf and pumpkin seed loaf. The person behind the counter was helpful and answered all my questions. There is a shared parking lot. I will be back for more.

Nut allergy warning: Many of their dishes have nuts or are nearby other pastries with nuts. I emailed to inquire about specific pastries and ordered ahead and marked my nut allergy with a note, and had no issues. Magnol is an unassuming storefront located in a seemingly random strip mall in northwest Houston. There is tons of parking, courtesy of its location. As you enter, you're greeted with the delicious smell of baked goods. There wasnt much of a line when I went around 11AM on a Sunday, but many goods had also sold out. They still had baguettes and batard bread available. I picked up my order easily. We tried: -Croissant (4/5): I did not find this too flaky (in fact, it was pretty easy to cut into) but maybe it would've been if I had picked it up earlier in the morning? It was very buttery and flavorful! -Chocolate Croissant (4.5/5): For some reason, this one was more flaky than the regular croissant. Also rich with the perfect touch of chocolate. -Mille Feuille (4.5/5): A lot more creamy than the other time I've had a Mille Feuille. However, it is not overbearingly sweet! I loved the rich flavors and crisp texture. I highly suggest ordering ahead if you don't arrive early, as they sell out of popular items. Definitely understand the hype. Their pastries are delicious at extremely reasonable prices if you compare to shops in places like NYC. Will definitely be back.

This bakery was recommended by my foodie sister & brother in law, during my holiday trip to Houston. The interior is very cute and you can tell a lot of care went into the details. You also get a view into the kitchen through the large glass window. They're a few small table seating both indoors and outdoors, but they fill up quickly. I saw a lot of people do takeouts. We stopped by twice and, I think this place is a must visit if you love French bread & pastries. The staff are very welcoming, nice and quick. My family loves the baguettes which they get regularly along with the French butter. I loved the croissants, so flaky and buttery! Their latte is also pretty good. Happy customer!!

Inside you will also find French pastries, coffees and teas, gelato, milkshakes, sandwiches and macaroons. I felt the most interesting items were the French pastries as they are cute and tasty as well. Also, they plate the pastries nicely when you dine in as an added bonus. I tried the Chocolate Royale and the Ruby. Chocolate Royale - a petit chocolate mouse slice with flat chocolate panels along the sides. It is delicate and tasty. If you're a chocolate lover, this is definitely up your alley. Ruby - visually this looks like a strawberry Hershey kiss, with red powder on the exterior and a top piece of foil to resemble foil on the wrapper of a hershey kiss. Inside, it's filled with a strawberry cream and has a chocolate base. I just wish there was more chocolate in this one. They have plenty of seating inside as well as along the sidewalk. Inside you have the more fancy tables, whereas outside, they're more weather resistant and not as upscale in appearance. The soft drinks to drink along with your sweets are in a cold case along the hotel side of the space and you just take them to the register as you order. One of the most surprising things when you come here are the relatively affordable prices as you might expect them to be more for being a coffee shop attached to a 5-star hotel with a helipad.

What's nudged this place up to 5 stars for me is they have really improved their coffee game, specifically their quality of cappuccino's. Previously it seemed more of latte, but now to me its a legit Capp. Their choice of pastries hasn't changed, which gives you a good assortment of choices and they have added an additional barista or server which also is a nice touch for service. The only niggling items, parking can be tough, so you'll have to either walk a block or be quick to find a place close by. Regardless, definitely give this place a go to come for a pastry and coffee.

Lots of parking and a few tables to chill at.

Since we were already in the area after breakfast at TJ's Filipino Cuisine, we finally got the chance to stop by and try their baked goods for ourselves. We arrived early, so the bakery wasn't too busy yet. The bakers were busy prepping more goodies in the back while my cousin and I browsed all the Filipino baked goods we really miss from back home in the Philippines. They even had suman, sapin-sapin, biko, and other kakanin, which was nice to see. I specifically looked for the chicken empanada, and my cousin wanted to try the ube white chocolate chip cookie. We also saw different kinds of siopao and planned to come back later to buy some before heading back to San Antonio. We tried the ube white chocolate chip cookie first, but honestly we weren't totally satisfied. It tasted more like a regular white chocolate chip cookie with purple coloring and didn't really have much ube flavor. I also tried the chicken empanada. My cousin didn't like it because it was sweeter than expected--we were both expecting it to be savory. There seemed to be caramelized sugar in the outside of the pastry, which probably added to the sweetness. I still like it, though it was definitely sweeter than what I'm used to. Red Ribbon's chicken empanada is still my favorite. Later that day before leaving Houston, we came back for the siopao we planned to take home. We finally decided to just buy a couple pieces for ourselves, heat them up in the bakery, and try them fresh. When we saw the price for a four-pack, we were honestly disappointed. It felt expensive for the size. The siopao wasn't huge, and while I like the dough, there wasn't much chicken filling inside. For the portion, taste, and quality, it felt overpriced. Overall, it's probably not worth making another trip back for us. We did enjoy the cassava ube suman, and I like the chicken empanada, but not enough to drive all the way to Houston just for those. If I live nearby, I might come back to try other baked goods, but based on this visit, I'm not sure the rest would impress my palate. I still give them credit for cleanliness and customer service, although we did notice fruit flies on one of the shelves and reported it. The staff was friendly, and the bakery itself was welcoming. At the end of the day, since they're a bakery, the expectation is great-tasting, quality, mouthwatering Filipino breads, pastries ", and kakanin. While some items were enjoyable, overall it just didn't quite live up to the hype for us.
