After a busy weekend in Houston, we were in desperate need of some GOOD coffee, and Day 6 Coffee Co. absolutely delivered! Between the much-needed espresso, delicious chai tea, and refreshing frappé, we each found something to enjoy! And of course, we couldn't resist a little something to eat. The warm, flaky pastry was a delicious addition! Now, let's talk about the atmosphere! Exposed brick walls, cozy seating, beautiful décor, and a relaxed, welcoming vibe make this place so much more than your average coffee shop. It's the kind of spot where you can sit back, enjoy a conversation, and forget about the hustle and bustle outside. I also tried one of their muffins, and it was absolutely delicious. Another 5/5! The only thing that disappointed me was the coffee. I asked the barista for a recommendation and specifically mentioned that I wanted a coffee that wasn't too sweet. She recommended a drink, and I trusted her suggestion. Unfortunately, when I tried it, it was much sweeter than I was expecting. I understand recommendations are subjective, so I don't blame anyone,it just wasn't what I was looking for. While sitting inside, I saw a man who appeared to be experiencing homelessness politely ask a customer outside if they would buy him something to eat because he was hungry. The customer said no, and the man walked away. I didn't witness any harassment or confrontation. I decided to offer to buy him something myself. He said yes, so I went inside and ordered him a croissant and water. The employee at the register initially told me they weren't supposed to sell food if it was being purchased for someone experiencing homelessness. After I explained that I had already offered, she agreed to process the purchase "this time." After I gave him the food, the owner Frédérick Fortin approached me. He told me that this man had been coming around for several days and was "harassing customers" by asking them for food. He explained that it was frustrating from a business perspective because customers come and go and when they do this he is left to deal with the situation!!!! I told him I understood his concern, but what I personally witnessed was someone politely asking one person for food, being told no, and walking away. I made my own choice to help him. What I found most upsetting was being made to feel that I had done something wrong by purchasing something with my own money and choosing to give it to someone else. Once I purchase something, I should be able to decide what I do with it! I also explained that I had come to this shop because it was highly recommended to me. When I expressed my disappointment, the owner's response was essentially that if I didn't like his business, I didn't have to be there. So I left!!! I believe businesses can have boundaries while still treating people with empathy, respect, and kindness. Those are values I personally choose to support, and a business that doesn't reflect them is a business I'm not interested in supporting! Deff not coming back!!!
