We were craving a late night dessert after leaving East River 9 so we stopped at milk + sugar. Overall, great service but not much to be impressed about. Side note you'll need a code to use their restroom. I ordered the split cup of Strawberry Almond Cheesecake and Dulce de Horchata. I felt that the portion could've been slightly more generous than below the rim of the cup, but I suppose the price is reasonable. I guess it's hit or miss like at Marble Slab. The cheesecake flavor was okay not overpowering, which I would've preferred more than the almond and strawberry. I think I wasn't impressed with it because the server scooped more of the graham crust than ice cream. I'm pretty sure that's another reason I didn't particularly care for their cheesecake. The half scoops are pretty big; it's about the same size as individual scoop at other places. The service was good. They let you try as many flavors that you would like. The pandan part of the yum cha was better than the chrysanthemum, but both were good. It was smoother and melted a lot faster than the Thai tea. We had dinner nearby and my dining companion and I needed a little something sweet for dessert. I remembered the OG milk + sugar was down the street so we decided to check it out. It is located on Westheimer in an older building and can be easily missed. It shares a lot with a couple of other businesses so parking can be tight at peak times. There's an entrance into the business from the lot or an entrance in the front. Customer service was great . We were able to try any flavors that peaked our interest before making a final decision. They were out of a few flavors which was a bummer but totally understandable. When it comes to choosing flavors, it all just depends on my mood or the weather. In the summer months, I lean more towards fruity, refreshing flavors. The rest of the year I seek out the rest of the flavors. I tried a few flavors that were all delicious, but I settled on the PB Cookies and Cream and Sundae Funday. My go to ice cream fave is cookies and cream. One of my other favorite flavor profiles is peanut butter. They combined the two and made one of the most delicious ice cream flavors I've had. It wasn't just an essence of the flavors, but it contained nice chunks of Oreos and bites of peanut butter. The second scoop of Sundae Funday was just as tasty. It was a sweet cream ice cream with a generous amount of brownie bits and fudge. Absolute deliciousness all around! This one is located in the plaza with Kroger on Buffalo Speedway, across from HEB, next to Adair Kitchen and Craft Pita. I tried the red bean and mochi ice cream. I've only ever seen this delicacy come pre-packaged at H mart. It exceeded my expectations and I believe that it will for you too! Especially so if you're looking for something new, but the yum cha deserves equal praise for the exact same reasons as the red bean. I didn't expect a Montrose based ice creamery to make such niche Asian flavors. Based off previous pictures of their menu, both might be part of the seasonal menu. I was first introduced to milk + sugar via the Elite Week over the summer at their new West U location off 59 and Buffalo Speedway. We came here for dessert at the request of our out-of-town visitor, so I was excited to return to milk + sugar at their OG location! Staff behind the counter is very friendly and knowledgeable about all of the flavors. They allow you to sample the flavors but have a limit of 4, which I also found at the West U location to be a bit strange. Probably implemented this rule due to folks taking advantage of free samples. I got the Yum Cha and Thai Tea flavors. I love that they have some Asian-inspired flavors here, which makes milk + sugar stick out to me among other ice cream joints! The Yum Cha has pandan and chrysanthemum in it, which tastes almost like a milk tea. The Thai Tea course tastes just like a hearty glass of Thai Tea from your local Thai restaurant. I appreciate that they have lactase available for purchase ($0.50) - they know who they are catering to! ;) At around 8:30pm on a Sunday, there was a steady stream of customers coming through and sticking around to enjoy their ice cream. The first time was in the evening when they tend to be busy, and the 2nd was a weekday afternoon when it wasn't so busy. I tried the Sunday funday and double chocolate as a double since you receive twice the amount for $2 more. Service was friendly as usual. There are a lot of seats at the 6 tables in the center of the space, plus seats along the window ledges, and some chairs along the black wall. The sunday funday is fairly standard and didn't wow me.
