Everyone should come here at least once. Their flavors are so unique and refreshing. They are mostly east Asian inspired. I had a hard time choosing between them. I ended up getting a panda/ chrysanthemum and happy wife with a cone on top. The staff were amazingly just as sweet as the ice cream. The place was cute and decorated. Great for an after meal dessert or a short date/hang out. You can smell the hint of brown sugar from the waffle cones in the room. There is free parking behind the store.
I loved how creative and unique their flavor profiles are. I went with the yum cha and the ube (vegan option) and was very pleased. My only minor note was that the ube was a touch icier in texture than I'd have liked, but honestly still very good and worth every bite. Looking forward to trying more~
Milk and sugar is my favorite ice cream shop in Houston and I went to their Montrose location on two different occasions the first time I went I got the limited time xoxo flavor, which has a white chocolate base with red velvet gooey butter cake. This was so so gasssss. Very creamy like the happy wife flavor but with red velvet cake bits inside instead. Both times I also got their happy wife flavor, which is one of their signature ones. It is a sweet cream ice cream with almond pound cake. Really similar to the xoxo flavor but with a different cake. I also got the Thai tea and their Thai tea flavor is stronggggg. You can distinctly taste the depth of flavor. This place has never let me down. They have such unique flavors and make them all in house.
I ordered scoops of the yum cha (chrysanthemum and pandan) and Thai tea ice cream and really enjoyed both! I'm so glad the yum cha is a permanent flavor now. The pandan part of the yum cha was better than the chrysanthemum, but both were good. It was smoother and melted a lot faster than the Thai tea. The Thai tea was rich, thick, and slightly grainy but not in a bothersome way. It had a nice amount of Thai tea flavor. Both ice creams were pretty sweet (as expected). The service was fast and friendly. They have some long tables to sit and enjoy your ice cream at. There's also Lactaid pills you can buy for 50 cents. It was a little dark at night. There is a small parking lot behind the building and street parking.
Came to Milk & Sugar for a sweet treat, and it reminded me why this place is one of my go-to spots in the city for ice cream. They consistently deliver some of the most unique and thoughtfully crafted flavors--definitely not your typical "vanilla and chocolate" lineup. You can tell they put real effort into creating combinations that are different but still delicious, and they really do it right. The servers here are always so helpful and genuinely sweet, which makes the experience even better. There's also a good amount of seating inside, so it's an easy spot to hang out with friends or just enjoy your ice cream without feeling rushed. If you're in the mood for something a little different and seriously tasty, Milk & Sugar never disappoints
LOVE THIS PLACE! I cannot begin to say how much Ice cream I've been eating since finding out about this place. From the friendly service, bright and clean interior to the absolutely incredible creative flavors, you cannot go wrong. While I enjoy the more traditional flavors (who doesn't love chocolate?) it's the more unique flavors that truly have me sold. The Yumcha, Hojicha and Thai Tea truly are a perfect match, with authentic and addictive flavors that complement each other perfectly. The rotating seasonal options are also amazing, including the truly revelational corn one. The portion sizes are also very generous, and the split scoop options allow for trying more than one flavor even when you only want one scoop. Another standout factor are the employees. Everyone is always so friendly and helpful, which just makes the entire experience pleasant!
Probably my new favorite ice cream shop. I'm not necessary a sweet person, but I've probably gone here 3 times in the last month. I guess I like coffee and chocolate flavor so my go to is always "city that never sleeps". It has coffee and pretzels with crispy chocolate flakes that gives it a sensational bite after a hot Houston summer day. Their Thai tea and happy wife which has almond pound cake with sweet cream.
I was lucky enough to attend a Yelp Elite event at milk + sugar in West U and immediately bookmarked all their locations so I can visit when that craving hit. We had dinner nearby and my dining companion and I needed a little something sweet for dessert. I remembered the OG milk + sugar was down the street so we decided to check it out. It is located on Westheimer in an older building and can be easily missed. It shares a lot with a couple of other businesses so parking can be tight at peak times. There's an entrance into the business from the lot or an entrance in the front. Customer service was great . We were able to try any flavors that peaked our interest before making a final decision. They were out of a few flavors which was a bummer but totally understandable. When it comes to choosing flavors, it all just depends on my mood or the weather. In the summer months, I lean more towards fruity, refreshing flavors. The rest of the year I seek out the rest of the flavors. I tried a few flavors that were all delicious, but I settled on the PB Cookies and Cream and Sundae Funday. My go to ice cream fave is cookies and cream. One of my other favorite flavor profiles is peanut butter. They combined the two and made one of the most delicious ice cream flavors I've had. It wasn't just an essence of the flavors, but it contained nice chunks of Oreos and bites of peanut butter. The second scoop of Sundae Funday was just as tasty. It was a sweet cream ice cream with a generous amount of brownie bits and fudge. Absolute deliciousness all around! Milk + sugar has moved up to the top of my list of best ice cream spots in the city. I will be back!
Houston local brand, and my favorite ice cream shop in town. I've followed this ice cream shop since they've opened their first location in Montrose! This one is located in the plaza with Kroger on Buffalo Speedway, across from HEB, next to Adair Kitchen and Craft Pita. It's the consistency, it's the delicious flavors and very unique, it's their cone. It's also about the super big parking space, as they're sharing with Kroger and everyone else, space to sit inside and outside, cute mini semicycle to hang out. Top flavors remain: thai tea, rain or shine. Discovery of the week: yum cha, with a kick of pandan flavor. I really appreciate that this is asian owned and they're sharing some specific flavors here. It's not empowering, it's really well blended. Just try ! They also have seasonal flavors so can only catch them temporarily. They also have pints so once you've discovered your favorites, you can store them at home ! Their cones are made in house, so you may catch a sweet smell throughout the store! It's so good ! I also really like their idea of a split scoop. It's the price of 1 scoop but you get to have two flavors at the size of a half scoop each! But of course, there's always the 2 scoops options, no judging here ! Sometimes, it gets really packed. Patience and won't be disappointed. Really really appreciate the simplicity of the menu. 10/10!
What a great last minute find for dessert! We came to Milk and Sugar on a recent trip to Houston. We were in the mood for ice cream and saw the great reviews this place had. The ambiance was quiet, and the service was quick. I tried the yum cha (pandan flavored) and my wife had the Red, white, and blue. Both were amazing. Would definitely come back here again.
It was my first time at milk + sugar and I was thoroughly impressed. Before ordering, I tried several flavors. Ultimately, decided on the Happy Wife & Sundae Funday (left) + Peach Cobbler & Butter Pecan Streusel (right), you'll see the pics if you take a look! I love that they give you an option to pair two flavors. The customer service was great, and we were greeted upon entering. The vibe was chill and they have tons of merch along with ice cream to-go. I'll definitely be back!

I'm a big fan of this ice cream shop! The decor is adorable, especially the ice cream-themed wall. The staff is friendly and offers samples, making it easy to find the perfect flavor. Just a heads up--many flavors contain chocolate and/or nuts, so keep that in mind if you have dietary preferences or allergies. Take a pint home, and then put it in a double steel container made just for that pint. Genius! Matcha ice cream is top tier My favorite is cereal milk! An amazing flavor is earl gray lavender My all time go to flavor is coffee (city that never sleeps) They have seasonable flavors are are excellent! You scream, I scream, we all will scream after eating this icecream! This is a staple ice cream shop for me. I still remember coming here for the first time after moving to Houston and it stills hit the same, 2 years later. The Happy Wife is always my go to but there's so many other flavors that taste incredible. The staff are always super friendly and informative on seasonal flavors. They even offer pints to go which helps curve my frequent cravings of their ice cream (I have 2 pints currently in my freezer) The inside is very cozy & bright, perfect for a sweet night cap and there's so many spots for cute pictures, if you want that. Only potential issue could be parking since the lot is shared and on the smaller side, however I've never had an issue with it. read more

Can't get much better than this! Their ice cream is delicious, creamy, and with the perfect gooey-ness. They have pretty creative flavors. I got the strawberry almond cheesecake and the rain or shine (lavender/earl grey/lemon). The rain or shine is my favorite. I love anything lavender and earl grey, but adding that hint of lemon made the flavors even better. Thai tea and pumpkin are also good. Plenty of seating available. Limited parking. Split scoop is currently the same price as single scoop, so why not enjoy two flavors. read more

Ice cream was good. I feel like you cant go wrong with ice cream. I like how there are a bunch of unique flavors you wouldn't find anywhere else. And it's cool that they routinely rotate them. Service was good. The lady was nice and was was generous with the samples. Vibes were alright. I didn't like the long tables. I think I prefer smaller, more individualized seating. read more

Favoriteeeeee ice cream spot in Houston hands down!! Their flavors here are phenomenal. I especially loved their yum Cha flavor they had during AAPI month. PLEASE BRING IT BACK!! I think the perfect order here is a half half ice cream scoop with their signature cone. That cone can not be skipped!!! You can smell them making that waffle cone coming through the door. It's definitely worth the $1.50 extra. It's never way too crowded here, especially compared to the crazy shops back in LA. This is the perfect spot to bring visitors! Dropped by milk + sugar with friends and honestly think everything was okay. I decided to go with the split scoop and tried the Thai Tea and the Strawberry Almond Cheesecake icecream. There were other flavors I was more interested in, but after sampling they quite literally tasted like nothing. It was almost like eating a blank canvas across the board except for a few flavors that were slightly better. The Thai Tea flavor I will admit probably had the most flavor to me amongst all the flavors. The Thai Tea was evident and I do feel that it was consistent with every bite. On the other hand, the strawberry almond cheesecake was more so just giving me almond ice cream with the slightest bit of strawberry. I could barely taste the cheesecake (if there was any flavoring at all). Overall, I don't think I will be returning as the flavors didn't impress me too much but I do think people should give it a try once. Service was good, however the restroom had no more toilet paper and/or soap and when asked if they could refill the soap they didn't have any to replace which is pretty unsanitary on multiple ends. Note: There is small parking lot located behind the building but be careful of potholes! read more
Love their ice cream. Rain or shine with earl grey and lemon is my favorite, but they have other delicious flavors. It melts very quick so idk if I recommend cones. They have new flavors every once in a while as well. Parking is a little hard sometimes and when it gets crowded inside, noise echos and gets very loud. read more
After trying their Thai tea ice cream years ago this became my favorite ice cream place in Houston! Thai tea ice cream: 5 The Thai tea ice cream is my favorite because it is basically a Thai milk tea in ice cream form. The Thai tea flavor is pretty strong, the ice cream isn't too sweet, and it as a smooth creamy texture. While I have tried other flavors I always end up ordering this one because that it's the flavor I'm craving when I come here. Even if I order something else I always regret not ordering the Thai tea which shows how much I love it. Seasonal flavors: Gingerbread: 4 I loved how the ginger bread flavor came out and it didn't taste artificial! Chrysanthemum tea and Pandan: 5 So for the past few years Thai tea has reigned supreme as my number one but when I tried this new flavor it was so good I didn't even care that I didn't get Thai tea. The chrysanthemum flavor was a nice undertone that enhanced the flavor of the Pandan. As you can guess, it's more similar to the chrysanthemum tea flavor of those sweet chrysanthemum juice boxes then the slightly bitter flavor of the chrysanthemum tea you'd have at dim sum (yum cha). I loved how they called it yum cha since the flavor combination it feels so familiar and distinct to the Asian American experience. I really hope this flavor comes back or is incorporated into the normal menu! Waffle Cone: 5 The waffle cone is so good that one of my friend's description of it was "you could eat the waffle cone on its own and be content". So be sure to try it! Unfortunately sometimes it does over power some of their ice cream flavors but that's why I love having it with the Thai tea ice cream since they balance each other out! Service: 4 The servers are always polite and efficient. Ambiance: 5 When you enter the store you're hit with the smell of freshly made waffle cones! Which is something I always associate with coming here. It gets really packed after the lunch and dinner rushes since Paulie's is next door but there is a good amount of sitting areas. FYI: 1. The parking lot is a bit small so try to carpool. 2. There is a back door that you can use to go directly from the parking lot to the restaurant 3. Follow their IG for the latest flavors! Never saying no to ice cream, we had to stop by this highly reviewed ice cream shop after lunch one day. There is a small parking lot in the back, but be aware of the spot behind/in front of the door to milk + sugar. If you park too close to the door, you risk getting your car dinged by the door when people come out! The ambiance inside is as you expect for an ice cream shop. Several tables and chairs with a colorful wall, along with windows facing the street. When we came in, the employee working here came out from the back immediately and kept a monotone demeanor the entire time. We tried a few flavors and made the tough decision of doing a split single scoop of the Yumcha (crYshanthium tea and Pandan) and happy wife (vanilla with pound cake bits). The Yumcha was unique and not overly sweet. The happy wife sweet and the bits of pound cake added a great chew. For the price ($6 for a single scoop), it's quite hefty but I appreciated some of the other unique flavors they had! read more
Every city has the hip ice cream place to be at, Milk + Sugar happens to be it here. You can tell their ice cream is quality, it's so creamy, I appreciate the unique flavors too. Settled with the Thai iced tea flavor, but as I was sampling, it was hard to pick. I think one scoop is too much for me, I have to share it. This was a treat after savoring a Texas BBQ meal close by. Wish we had more ice cream shops like this one in Houston. I wish we had one closer to Katy or Cypress. The ice flavors are unique and delicious. The portions are big. Milk + Sugar is an ice cream shop located in Montrose. There is a small parking lot in the back of the store. The inside is spacious, and there is spacing for quite a few people. They also had a variety of flavors. Some flavors had chunks of cake and swirls and some flavors were smooth. I tried the Thai Tea, Hello Summer, Fruity Pebbles, and Happy Wife. The Thai Tea was my favorite. It was smooth with small dots of tea. Hello Summer was a cheesecake flavor with blueberry swirl and graham crackers. I did not taste the cheesecake flavor as much, and it was very light. To me it tasted more on the vanilla side with hints of blueberry swirl. The Fruitty Pebbles was smooth and then topped with Fruitty Pebbles at the end. The Happy Wife was a second favorite and was a sweet cream base with pound cake inside. I think it was on the sweeter side compared to the rest. Overall, the flavors were light and not too heavy, and I did enjoy them. I also liked how the cones were handmade. However, I preordered a cone and went to the bathroom. There was barely any toilet paper left, which I understand, as things can get busy, but when I went to wash my hands, there was no soap. Since I got a cone I wanted to have clean hands before they gave it to me and tried asking for soap or hand sanitizer, but it took a while with the cone starting to melt. I just kinda wished they had soap or sanitizer stocked because I was eating a cone (mostly with my hands), and it would be sanitary to do so. read more

This place is amazing! The ice cream was so smooth and creamy. The waffle cone was very buttery! The staff were so nice and helpful! The atmosphere is very busy, people coming and going. I think that all ice cream shops should have lactase pills to buy on the spot if you forgot yours. Milk and sugar only charges .50 a pill. The funniest and most helpful thing I saw tonight. I can't say anything bad about this place. My sister and I were craving ice cream while we were visiting family in Houston. This place was nearby. For either a scoop or a split (2 half scoops), $5.50 is a steal! I ordered half rain or shine (Earl grey base, lavender, lemon) and strawberry almond cheesecake (cream cheese and almond base, crushed graham cracker, and strawberry swirl). So so so delicious! I didn't even care it was only like 50 degrees. This treat really hit the spot! I like that the flavors were all so creative and unique. They were not basic at all. The man working at the counter was also super patient and nice! The inside is a little small with a few tables. There is also a cute little wall where you can snap a great picture of your ice cream. Hands down one of the premier ice cream shops in Houston. In my veryyyy humble opinion, probably the best! Love the flavors they have as well as their rotating monthly special flavors. My favorite "regular" flavors are probably the cereal milk (cereal milk w/ frosted flakes), follow your nose (cereal milk w/ fruit loops), and happy wife (sweet cream w/ almond pound cake). But honestly, I think all their flavors are pretty delicious! For this past AAPI month in May, they actually had a flavor called "Yum Cha" that was pandan and chrysanthemum flavored. Unfortunately, I was not in Houston during then, BUT my wonderful fiancée snagged me a pint of it and was recently able to try it. Although I would say that flavor is definitely pandan-forward, it absolutely is a banger. Would love if they had some asian-inspired flavors as staple items on their regular menu. Other notes: - Parking is in available in the lot in the back, but street parking is also available in the neighborhood and not too far of a walk - Plenty of seating inside if you just wanted to hangout while eating ice cream - Service is friendly and let's you try samples - Their merch is very cute! Staff was very friendly, and introduced the menu to me when I said it was my first time at this ice cream parlor. However, the music was very loud that I had to shout instead of talk. This isn't conducive for sit down ice cream chit-chat. They have interesting flavors which have either nuts or sauce, or other things mixed into the base. So it is either you like it or hate it. For a picky eater, you have to find the next best ice cream cream flavor if you can't find the perfect one among the options. Slow and steady which was chocolate ice cream mixed with caramel swirl, and pecans, was rich and good. Chocolate was very pronounced in the ice cream. I can't decide to have either the Rain or Shine or Yum Can flavor. So I went for the split to get best of both worlds. Rain or Shine had earl grey and hint of lavender in it. It was ok. Yum Cha had strong pandan flavor, and not so much of chrysanthemum. But Yum Cha was still a good flavor. Overall the flavors were interesting, and it was worth a try. read more

I recently moved to Houston and one of my friends introduced me to milk + sugar. At first sample, I fell in LOVEEEE with their ice cream. Milk + sugar reminds me of Salt & Straw in that they have very unique flavors. I've been here a handful of times and I always end up trying a new or seasonal flavor. Their staff is always so friendly, patient, and provides great recs. I always end up getting a split scoop because I can never decide on one single flavor (they have so many to choose from), but a few of my favorites include pb cookies & cream and city that never sleeps. The only lame thing about their ice cream is that sometimes it melts a bit too quickly :'( oh and parking isn't the best. read more

The Ambiance: Had a taste for something sweet so we decided to visit yesterday. The location is very clean, and I definitely appreciated the A/C. My Order: Cereal Milk: I am simple when it comes to my ice cream so I gave this a try. The ice cream was great, it really resembled the milk from a cereal bowl that you normally drink at the end (spectacular). The added Frosted Flakes were a great idea. I would love to see them try Cinnamon Toast Crunch. Service: Customer service was stellar and helpful. Payment: Payment is quick and easy. Overall I'd recommend and plan to visit again soon. read more
As a self proclaimed ice cream aficionado, I would say milk + sugar is probably towards the bottom of my list of ice cream establishments here in Houston. The flavors I sampled were just OK, but not memorable. The Cereal Milk flavor doesn't evoke cereal milk at all - there is no sense of infusion. Part of the fun with real cereal milk is how the milk absorbs the taste of the cereal. This essential aspect of it is missing from the ice cream. Service was awkward initially (no greeting, but others were greeted afterwards), but the woman who took over at the counter was awesome and friendly. The day I went, the temperature outside was 96 degrees, so why was it off temperature (warm) inside? I am not looking for ice cold temps in an ice cream shop, but come on! I wish the folks who own this business would rethink the product, presentation and other basics. Tbh, this really makes me miss the old Craft Creamery on the curve: out of the box thinking when it comes to unique flavors, great service and a real ice cream parlor feel. read more
We grabbed parking in the back and stopped in for ice cream after hearing rave reviews for months. So glad we did because the split scoops we got (rain or shine/city that never sleeps, and dulce de horchata/sundae funday ) were amazing. Excellent dessert place. I loved the flavors. I got the happy wife (sweet cream ice cream and house made almond pound cake) and city that never sleeps (coffee & pretzel ice cream + chocolate flakes). I enjoyed both kinds. They were never too sweet and the flavors were very prominently in each bite. Prices were reasonable. Parking you can find street parking that's in front of the store. Place was small but seating wasn't an issue. read more
Parking can be darn right atrocious, but the high level of ice cream makes it worth it. The ice cream is super dense and silky and absolutely kicks that ice cream craving everyone gets from time to time. Not a fan of when a customer facing employee has headphones/AirPods in while with a customer, they have been guilty of that a couple times here. Just treat everybody with the same level of attention the you seems to treat your product. One suggestion I would make is to make exploring different flavors easier, by offering or promoting some pre-designed flavor/mix-in combos. read more

The Rain or Shine flavor was so good, but I didn't fancy any of the other flavors despite trying a lot of them. I would've liked to see more fruity flavors, and the flavors they had were all very similar. The parking lot is small (15 spots maybe) and could get crowded easily. read more
We love coming to this place for ice cream!! The ice cream is just delicious! Cereal milk flavor is my husband's favorite. I personally do not have a favorite but I like all of their flavors for the most part. I ordered their Blue Vegan Ice cream under their seasonal flavor and I usually get disappointed with vegan ice cream because it has too much coconut flavor but this one was so good!!
