Needed a place to study that opened early in the morning and I came upon this gem. I was genuinely expecting a standard coffee place but I didn't realize that they're a non-profit thats helping spread awareness to human trafficking! I also did not know that they would have people come in to speak on the issue and I found it insightful. For those interested, I believe they will have these talks every 4th Friday of every month :) Aside from that, the baristas were very nice! The seating inside is super cozy and comfy and I also liked that there's a lot of outlets where I could plug my devices in. For my drink I ordered an iced Sweet Toff. It was the perfect amount of sweetness and I liked how the toffee flavor wasn't too overpowering of the coffee flavor read more

A 2nd Cup is not just a good place for some caffeine, but it's a nice setting for some group studying, remote working, and nice place to relax. It's undoubtedly casual with a hipstery feel that is reminiscent of something that would be in Austin or Portland. The name is also appropo since I can never get out of here without ordering at least two cups of something. The interior is nice with a bit of a warehouse vibe but lots of natural lighting and a good amount of seating from sofas to communal tables and even covered outdoor seating. Parking isn't a problem and there's It's usually nice and quiet, which makes it a really ideal place to hit the ground running with some laptop action. The fairly fast WiFi is an added plus. Another thumbs up is their affordable prices which are around $5 or less. In the inflated world of coffee and foodflation, this is always a thumbs up. Ironically I end up ordering their most expensive drinks, which are mainly their house favorites ($5.50). The secret squirrel, mochanut, sweet toff, and white mocha, which are all a solid option. Their matcha latte ($5) and lemonade ($3) are refreshing and easy to order on any of our warmest days. Service has also been among their strong suits. They've been efficient with orders, good to point people out to where bathrooms, WiFi passwords, and focusing on their mission of ending human trafficking. They have noted themselves as Houston's first non-profit coffee shop that is dedicated to ending human trafficking. Well then. In that case, I'll have another cup. read more

My new coffee home and work place! Try to beat the crowd because the people are here and honestly you should be here too! The coffee was good, the message is good, the tacos are amazing!! But hold up wait a minute... try the in-house baked concha! Literally the softest and most delightful one I've had in Houston!! Because the people are out here selling dry and crumbly ones!! But this place got them right!! Literally enough said! Happy Yelping! read more

Why am I just now discovering their Phoenix Smoothie? It's amazing and I crave it all the time now. Reasonable pricing, super fresh and they make it quick. Love the atmosphere here, I am able to come work, it's quiet and comfortable. You do have to pay for a drink in order to get their wifi password.. only downside, BUT support them! It's an amazing cause. read more

They have a variety of seating with plenty of outlets (perfect for studying). There's free wifi with purchase. The seats are comfy and the vibes are chill. I love that they're a non profit coffee shop focused on stopping human trafficking. I ordered an iced caramel latte, it tasted like milk ‍ which I guess is a latte lol. I think I should have just gotten a plain iced coffee or cold brew. The latte wasn't anything special, but it was drinkable, which is more than I can say for other places. read more

I was visiting my family and wandered into the local shop in the neighborhood. I love a good cup of coffee but love the mission of this place: a non-profit cause to end human trafficking! Hell yes, you have my support! The staff is attentive and friendly. I went in the mid-morning hours so the shop was not packed. The parking lot is small though so I had to park on the street and walk in. I picked up my coffee to go but wished I had longer to stay. It's a great space for working ( as a few were) or catching up with friends over a cup of coffee. The coffee was great too! I got the Sweet Toff and it was delicious. I'll be sure to stop in again next time I am in town. read more

Shoutout to this Black & Female owned coffee shop. I always appreciate supporting places that have a deeper mission, which they are big advocates for human trafficking and helping those in need. I enjoyed my time here with my friend. Lots of open space for seating and not feeling crammed if you want to get some work done. There is a wide variety of baked goods, coffee drinks, tea alternatives, & light bites as well. I love that they have vegan and gluten free options (yayyy). The staff was really helpful with accomodating my food restrictions so that I could eat something. You can get their yogurt fruit bowl sans yogurt, for example, which included fruit they have in season. I also tried their tacos where you can build your own and they have a lot of toppings to choose from. The music was great and they even had a kids "play" area. The parking lot is quite small but you can park along the side of the building. I would highly recommend this spot if you don't want something too overcrowded and can be productive while enjoying delicious treats. read more

This coffee shop has been on bookmark list and happy I I finally made it in. It's very big for a coffee shop with lots of tables. I should have asked if they have wifi available. As I walked in I was greeted and asked how my morning was going, but not in a automatic way. It was in a genuine way that felt nice. After looking over the menu I picked the Secret Squirrel coffee that was really good. It was a mild smooth coffee. My only complaint is that there is only a standard size available. I couldn't turn down a fresh croissant and I'm so happy I got one. It was fluffy and light with a a nice outer crust. I'll be coming back for sure to try other drinks and their lunch items that sound good. read more

New menu! The food & drinks I tried today were great. Nice selection of food for both breakfast and lunch. I brought my 2 kids and they enjoyed the breakfast potatoes, chocolate milk and mini banana bread. Only ding is they didn't have any ketchup or ranch for kids, the 2 sauces provided were too spicy for them. read more

A 2nd was a wonderful coffee shop when it was located on 11th - great coffee for a good cause. Unfortunately Wolf Property Mgt bought their building and raised the rent threefold, forcing all of the tenants to find more economic pastures. Now a Starbucks sits where 2nd used to be. Relocating to Fulton on the upper Eastside, I was hoping A 2nd would survive. Unfortunately the coffee service is now mediocre, and they no longer sell food. Today I was the only patron at 9am in what would normally be a packed shop on a Saturday. I hope they turn things around. read more

A 2nd Cup - Mini in a tiny coffee cup - Coffee & Tea Near Me - Houston, Texas

A 2nd Cup might be the best coffee shop that I've been to that's devoted to a great cause. This coffee shop is filled with good vibes and natural lighting. A quality cup of coffee that helps to support the end of human trafficking? I'm all in! This coffee shop is very spacious with plenty of tables, outlets, and chairs to get some work done on your laptop. Perfect for studying, quiet background music, and a variety of coffee, pastries, and food to choose from. They also have a cute little shop area that sells a variety of shirts, jewelry, candles, and knickknacks. As far as coffee goes, my favorites are their mocha with almond milk, any of their seasonal lattes like their pistachio nut latte, or if I'm here for a long study session, I'll get their bottomless coffee cup. I really like their freshly baked pastries as well, these rotate daily on what's available. Other notable things to mention is their free wifi, plenty of parking in their lot, printer available, couple board games to borrow, lots of info from their sponsors, and multiple ways to donate to end human trafficking. Support local, and give this great coffee shop more than a 2nd chance! read more

Why select one coffee shop over another? Quality brews and a great coffee program are a start. Natural lighting, comfortable seating, and strong accessible WiFi make a memorable impression, right?! But I have to admit, I'm much more inclined to revisit a coffee shop when I know the owner or connect with the shop's powerful mission. Houston is one of the largest hubs for human trafficking in the nation. A Second Cup is Houston's nonprofit coffee shop working to end human trafficking. Their mission is fantastic, and their ability to subtly educate, partner and provide is nothing less than impressive. Walking in, you're greeted with local products, and from that point every detail, from the interior decor and interactive tools in the shop, to the awareness events (including virtual and in person survivor led support groups, safety planning and more) tell a story. Oh, and the coffee is damn good too. For anyone working to kick their "corporate green mermaid" habit by supporting local coffee shops with strong missions, this is your spot! read more

I definitely support this store's mission, so having to give it a poor review isn't the most comfortable thing, but I didn't have a great visit. Three issues: First, the americano I ordered was initially prepared poorly, being lukewarm, overly full (i.e. I couldn't remove the lid without creating a mess), and weak (possibly under-extracted, and/or possibly over-diluted). After a few sips, I asked for it to be remade; the second one was much better, though still not one of the better americanos I've had in Houston. Then I got a croissant, and it was waaaay too buttery. I know that for many people there's no such thing as "too buttery", but one's hands really shouldn't be slick with grease after eating a croissant. Third, a half hour into my visit, and about an hour before closing, they started cleaning the floors with a detergent that I found chemically offensive (I have asthma, so am super conscious about such things). At this point, I couldn't stay. All of that out of the way, I will acknowledge that the service I received was warm and friendly, the space itself is welcoming, and the free infused water is a nice touch. I'll return with the hope of a better experience. read more

Off the beaten path coffee shop that doesn't seem to get very busy because ppl don't know about it which surprises me because I would totally come here again. It hit most of the check boxes you want for a coffee shop : Great coffee (yummy sf vanilla decaf almond milk latte) Great food (veggie egg taco & egg biscuit; my friends got the pizza, avocado toast and bkfast sandwich and no complaints) Numerous outlets Lots of seating (unique to have seating on the ground with soft cushions to sit on) Friendly staff and quick service Parking available Good lighting Soft music The only downfall was it got pretty warm so dress accordingly and maybe get an iced coffee. It won't stop me from going again and I would still recommend to others. read more

Cool interior, comfy couches, artsy trinkets to buy, clean bathrooms, good coffee. Baristas are a bit pretentious.. nice enough, but they will stand and have a full conversation with each other while you stand there waiting to ask about the wifi, or they get annoyed when being asked about changing parts of a drink order. New location, same quality espresso, though I do miss the retail options from the previous space. I came in search of delicious espresso AND eggs. Sadly, they weren't serving their breakfast menu, only pastries. It seemed like it was a temporary issue. Coffee 5/5 Spaciousness 5/5 Ambiance 4/5 Comfort 3/5 *Bonus Points* 5/5 for working with trafficking victims This place is awesome overall. Above all else, they have a lot of programs for victims of labor trafficking including teaching them important working skills. Also, if you ever order food from their kitchen, most of it comes from another skills-teaching venture. As far as a study place, it's overall on the quiet to medium noise range. The place is just huge so feels like there's lots of options for seating. There's enough outlets but might have to use an extension cord-- no biggie. Lots of parking available outside. My only real complaint is that the seating isn't the most comfortable with mostly middle school desk style chairs. All in all, you need to visit this place at least once, especially if you like to work outside of your home/office. read more

Stopped by for coffee and wanted to get the avocado toast. Unfortunately they don't have the kitchen up and running yet (as of 10/16/23) so we couldn't order from the food menu. The service was polite and timely. Inside has tons of information and resources regarding human trafficking and I enjoy that getting coffee here helps a good cause. There's also a cute little shop of ethically sourced home items in the shop which is very cool. The decor and vibes are comfy and spacious. Parking is limited, maybe like 5/6 spots right out front. I'd like to come back again when the kitchen is up and running! read more

Why 5 stars? Because it was great cold brew for a good cause. --- --- --- My time here was incredibly brief, but very satisfying. I normally prefer nitro, but if that's not available, I go with cold brew. That's what I did here, and to be honest, it was shockingly great. Definitely one of the smoothest cold brew's I've ever had. We also ordered some cookies - a chocolate chip, a peanut butter and one with almond in the center. All of them were great and my only regret is that I had to share and they were not all for me.
