Been here 3 times now and every time is amazing! They are creative with their combination of flavors and delicate enough to let each one shine without overpowering any others. Food: - Chicken liver pate: 10/10 SOOOO good! The bread that comes with it is amazing too. There is some sweet jam that is paired with it also. It doesn't overpower the main pate flavor, but I could probably do without the sweetness. - Pressed leeks: 10/10 I haven't had leeks too often in my life but this was really good! The sauce that they put it on pairs so well with it and really makes the dish. Must try even if you think you don't like leeks. - Venison tartare: my husband loves tartare and mustard so he loved this dish. I despise mustard and am lukewarm on tartare. The mustard taste was so strong. I hated this dish but I'm also not a good critic for it, so no rating from me. - Pappardelle: 7/10 Simple and classic. Not worth getting on your first visit but a nice dish on its own. - Butternut squash: 8/10 I can't remember much about this dish except that I enjoyed it :) - Pork collar Milanese: 9/10 Like a much better version of a schnitzel - Dumplings: 9/10 Just read the description on the menu and you know it's gonna be good. Ricotta? Brown butter? Yup amazing! Creamy, delicate, but not just a big mush that makes me want to gag. - Lamb ribs: 9/10 Nicely smoked, all around good balanced flavor - Wagyu bavette: 10/10 So good! Tender and juicy. But at this point in the meal, I'm usually pretty stuffed and the portion size is pretty decent. I would enjoy it even more if we didn't always order so many other small plates haha - Mushrooms: 9/10 Mushroom haters, please try this! You may change your mind! It changed my friend's mind that also doesn't like mushrooms. Service: - Always a good time. Checks in but not overbearing. Ambiance is slightly upscale but still relaxed. Doesn't feel uppity. - One time, we got free dessert. We were the last party in there so they probably just wanted to get rid of it. The cookie was so good! Food is excellent. Outstanding biscuits, shrimp polenta, mocktails, and the Dutch baby was fun. We happened to get lucky and reserved the cute patio on one of the few perfect weather days in Houston. Why only three stars? Service was odd to say the least. To start, we were lightly scolded for ordering three food items from the menu--we ordered mocktails to start--and between the two of us we don't eat large portions. If you don't think we're ordering enough food, it'd be nice to be informed that the portions are small if you're concerned about us being unsatisfied. As our plates came out, they were served with a perfunctory description of what we ordered and nothing else was said before they rushed off to be somewhere else. We don't expect to be doted on, but the overall vibe was standoffish on a quiet morning. Given they prefer full orders up front for pacing purposes, and our server was enforcing cups on coasters, we thought it was odd that our plates weren't refreshed between courses. I don't mind reusing the jam and butter covered plate to eat my polenta, but it conflicted with what the restaurant is trying to project. Overall, food was good, service was weird. I was here last Friday and had an amazing dinner. Came back today and it couldn't be more different. It started with the order. Why oh why do restaurants tell you what's on some dishes but not others? We ordered mussels, it came with mayo. It was not listed on the menu description (despite other dishes listing mayo/aioli). So my wife ate about half and left the rest uneaten. We explained the issue to the server and she apologized. Next dish was the broccoli - we asked what was on it when it arrived and she said "oh just some green goddess dressing - it's really good". Um no it's not. Mayo is the man ingredient of green goddess dressing but of course she has no clue. So again I left the plate untouched (my wife ate some). Finally had the steak and some fries (surprisingly had no mayo) and finished with a cookie that was great. I was actually still a little hungry at this point and planned to order some more and maybe get another round of drinks but the waiter brought our check without giving us a chance to order. So instead we went down the street to another spot. We're really big fans of Justin Yu's spots (we celebrated my birthday there last year) but today was such a poor experience. The menu was woefully inaccurate and the service left a lot to be desired. I thought about going back and giving it another shot since we like the place so much but it would be my luck I'd have the same waiter again. I can't stress enough how magical the flavors are. Each bite has depth. Flavor upon flavor upon flavor - they sink in & fall together like perfection. Crudo, pork Milanese, sweet potato dumplings and squash with pomegranate stole the show - freaking amazing as always. The venison tartare had a mustard base which I enjoyed. I came to Squable for my birthday dinner and it was an amazing meal! The interior is lively with an open bar and a pretty loud noise level, yet the service is so good that it keeps the restaurant at an elevated level. They have smaller shared plates and we were recommended to order 5, with 2 of them being main plates, for two people. For our cold plate we got the venison tartare, which was a standout not because of the tartare but actually because of the shoestring fries. Absolutely delicious, probably the best fries I've ever had. The tartare was also delicious but much lighter in flavor besides the mustard, honestly it was a little overpowered by the fries. For our hot plates we got the lamb chops and the charred broccoli. The broccoli was one of my favorite plates surprisingly, with a strong dill and cilantro flavor that paired well with the overall tanginess of the plate. The lamb chops were also delicious with super tender meat that fell off the bone, however it was quite fatty. The sauce it comes in is quite light which was a good balance. For our mains, we got the branzino and the rigatoni. The branzino was quite good, with a delicious sauce and a perfect sear on the skin. The fish was deboned as well. The rigatoni, on the other hand, was probably our least favorite dish. There was a horseradish gremolata that was quite strong and not our favorite. The oxtail sauce on the pasta was also quite rich but the flavors were a little dull for what we expected, disappointingly. However, we're excited to try new dishes next time, and the menu changes frequently so we'll get to taste something new! For dessert, we got the chocolate cherry torte which was AMAZING. Definitely on the sweet side, but luckily it doesn't cross the line. I also got a snickerdoodle cookie for my birthday with a candle which was sweet! Taste wise. A very great brunch. What takes away from it is the service, price for what you get, and little hiccups. I would say that as a non brunch person, I genuinely enjoyed most of our dishes. I didn't enjoy the overly brisk attitude. Our plates were just plopped down in front of us with no description, no nothing. Like the tater tots are 32 dollars for 6 blocks I would like some little into or blurb ( the tots are delicious btw). We also had to ask the waitress for new plates quite a bit. No one wants to eat a burger off a plate that just had jam and whipped cream on it. Also, we came for a friends birthday so I thought they would do something but no. Tastebuds awakened. Met the bestie for our monthly girl's date. She is the best. Roughly 6 min from home so plus plus. We had a 7:30 pm reservation. (Reserve, reserve, reserve) The restaurant is aesthetically pleasing. Clean, organized. And dimly lit. There is a patio but it was roughly 40 something outside so no thanks. We were sat at a quaint table by the wall that had a nice light pouring downward. The menu is small. They have a full bar so cocktails and mocktails. Our order: afterglow (cocktail), kanpachi crudo, dumplings, charred broccoli, vegetable lasagna, seared branzino, chocolate hazelnut budino Kanpachi crudo (4.5/5) - delightfully refreshing and delicious; the citrusy sauce paired perfectly with fish dumplings (2.5/5) - recommended bc of its popularity but it just wasn't for us; the wrapping was overly soft and the filling wasn't enough to get a definitive flavor - the overall presentation was nice but it just wasn't our thing Charred broccoli (4/5) - the sauce had a combo of tangy, nutty creaminess which paired well with the charring of the broccoli Vegetable lasagna (4/5) - very hearty, for vegetarian only dish, it's def a twig in lasagna because at first glance it reminded me of French toast, def worth the hype Seared branzino (3.2/5) - I think my expectations were high; the fish was thin, the skin was a bit overcooked in certain parts making it chewy - it wasn't bad but it just didn't hit the spot Chocolate hazelnut budino (3/5) - reminded us of Ferrero roche it was a nice ending to our meal The menu changes. Was back in town visiting friends and FINALLY got to try this spot. The ambiance is great, low lighting that's perfect for an intimate dinner with friends or date night. There's also plenty of seating - there was a large group dining at the same time as us, so the restaurant can definitely accommodate that. We tried so many things. We got the squash, the lamb ribs, the broccoli, the rigatoni, the chicken, and the white fish (I forget the name). Everything was DELICIOUS. Have been a few times here, guess first time writing a review. First: you'll notice how popular this place is given the difficulty in finding parking. Luckily able to get in without a reservation on Friday, but only bar seating was available (which was fine). The restaurant itself is great thought a bit loud. Modern contemporary atmosphere, comfortable to sit, and outdoor patio is super nice especially on a great day. The bar is huge and great to sit, eat, and watch the bartenders sling drinks. The service was also great, efficient, friendly, and what you expect. The menu is not overly huge which is great - I find menu sprawl makes certain things not great. Drink menu was also very focused. Started with a Manhattan which was delicious and definitely had you feeling it. Food wise, got the papparadelle, dumplings, and branzino. Branzino was the highlight - crispy, flaky, and the broth was amazing. Delicious without feeling full. The papardelle cooked perfectly, great chew, and the sauce was decent (a bit too much citrus for me). The dumplings had a sweet potato filling and were amazing - not what you expected as almost too sweet, but nothing I've had before. read more

Went here for bunch mainly for the beef fat tater tots after seeing them on instagram. However, everything was delicious. We also got the dutch baby, kanpachi crudo and loaded fries. They asked if we could tolerate spicy for the loaded fries and we overestimated ourselves, but the flavors were so good! The tater tots were crispy and melted in your mouth -- a sort of play on sour cream and onions, the salmon roe giving little punches of salt. The dutch baby with the bacon was a perfect mix of sweet and savory, made me miss making dutch babies at home. We'll have to come back for dinner. read more

Squable never misses. I have been multiple times and I always enjoy it. Parking can be a little tricky since the lot is small, but there is street parking available. I have tried most things on the menu and I love that they change it up every so often. On my most recent visit I had the lamb ribs and the cheeseburger. Both were amazing and worth ordering again. One thing I always have to get is the charred broccoli. It is one of my favorite dishes there. Also do not sleep on the vegetable lasagne. It is so good! Squable HTX - Heights I tried this restaurant out for brunch this morning after major media hype and I was a tad disappointed. I'm not drinking at the moment so no reviews on the drinks but the food fell short. I had the breakfast biscuits, the Dutch baby pancake, the sammie slam sandwich, and the tater tots. The biscuits came out lukewarm almost cold honestly, and they gave us a slab of butter with them, but it was also a little chilled as opposed to soft and spreadable. The biscuits themselves taste decent. I just wish that they had come out really hot. The Dutch baby pancake was very doughy inside. The only part that was good about this was the bacon that was perfectly cooked and that's about it. I did not like this at all. It was like a wet croissant that didn't finish cooking on the inside, but too much on the outside. Tater tots were OK actually. They had a nice crisp to them and the sauce that they put over them was really good with the salmon roe. I enjoyed this but at $32 I would never get it again. Lastly, the slam sandwich was very mid. Hardly flavorful, very ill presented and almost wet looking. I needed salt and pepper just to make it edible and literally left half of it. They did comp my Dutch baby pancake because I asked for something else, but altogether I didn't have that grade of a brunch experience at this place unfortunately. I did hear that there were other things that people really enjoyed while sitting at the bar. One lady told me that the fried chicken was really good I just wasn't in the mood for it. I have been wanting to try Squable for YEARS! I finally made it in and really enjoyed it. It's a very small place with bar seating and indoor and outdoor seating. I sat at the outdoor bar and was very well taken care of by the bartenders. The Sourdough, which comes with Turkish eggs was delicious! I had not created a plan on what I was going to order and when I saw that on the menu I had to get it after having a very similar dish in New Orleans. The only thing that would've made it better is some Turkish spice (dukkah) to really top off the flavors. The Cafe Liegeois dessert was incredibly delicious! Its pretty refreshing and very well done We got mussels (recommended by Google) and it's just mid. 16 bucks for three pieces of bread and some frozen mussels. Chicken is fine. But how can you possibly mess up chicken thighs. The potatoes aren't tasty - very mushy and lack flavors on the inside. But what could be worse? THE BURGER. I don't know why people recommend this. It's the size of my fist and the fries are so so salty. I kept drinking water and the water cup is so small I have to portion my sips so I don't always have an empty cup. The meat fell apart and tasted very gamey. I don't like it AT ALL. Plus: there are SO MANY FLIES. Not fruit flies, big ass flies swarming around the eating space. So damn disgusting. Brunch here is exceptional. The restaurant space is casually elegant and we enjoyed sitting in one of the comfortably upholstered booths in the floor to ceiling windows facing the street. Our server Julian offered thoughtful recommendations and checked in throughout our meal. It would be easy to order everything on the menu, but the Buttermilk drop biscuits and the Dutch Baby pancake paired well with our blood orange mimosas to start. I followed with the breakfast sammie while my spouse and son both went for the French cheeseburger raclette burger, both pronouncing it most excellent. I can't believe I haven't reviewed this place yet! I first visited a few years ago and have been coming back ever since. Most recently, my boyfriend and I dropped by on a Saturday morning. We arrived around 11 a.m. without a reservation, which was a bit of a rookie mistake on our part since this spot is always packed. Thankfully, we managed to grab the last two seats at the bar. We started off with coffee and a bloody mary. The bloody mary was hands down one of the best I've ever had--I'm very picky about this drink! For our starters, we ordered the buttermilk drop biscuits and the Dutch baby pancake. The biscuits were incredible. Just the right balance of crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. It came with both butter and jam. I couldnt decide which one I liked better so I ended up mixing them together. Honestly, they made for a perfect appetizer. Next came the Dutch baby pancake. If you've never tried one, it's like a hybrid of a crepe and a pancake, with a savory flavor that's much more subtle than sweet. Ours had bacon in it, which I absolutely loved. The combination of savory and sweet was perfection. For our main course, we shared the breakfast sammie, which had with maple sausage, hashbrowns, eggs, and cheese. It was annoying to eat since it fell apart easily, but the flavor was so good it made it all worth it. I'm glad we split it since it's a heavy dish, but my boyfriend mentioned he could've kept eating! The total came to around $75, which I thought was reasonable considering the service, ambiance, and the quality of the meal. Came in for some brunch with some of my girl friends. Our server was great and offered so many great suggestions. For drinks we ordered the afterglow which was super refreshing. We started off with the dutch baby pancake which was very interesting. It was bowl shaped, kind of eggy, and was the perfect amount of sweet and salty with the addition of the maple butter and bacon. The edges were crispy as well. Next we had the sourdough which was probably my favorite. The sourdough was lightly toasted and went so well with the garlic and chili crisp. The eggs were runny and yogurt were so creamy. We then moved on to the baked oysters which were super umami. They were on the smaller side, but packed a lot of deliciousness (almost wish we ordered two of these). Following the oysters was the breakfast bolognese which our server recommended we try with the spicy burrata. He was absolutely correct. The dish was spicy, creamy and the pasta was perfectly al dente. Lastly we had the carbonara. We were pretty full by this time so we couldn't eat too much more. The bacon bits were delicious and nicely charred. The carbonara itself tasted a bit like goat cheese which I personally do not enjoy so I did not enjoy this dish as much. The bartenders were very welcoming and gave us a complimentary glass of champagne since we were celebrating my friend's birthday! I opted for the martini which was good. I like how you got to pick your three garnishes. We did the mushroom toast, lamb ribs and broccoli! The mushroom toast was our favorite out of the three. Everything was overly salted though and left me sucking down water. Dessert was the best part of the meal. We got the cheesecake and the chocolate mouse dish. With the exception of one little thing, table service was great. We sat out on the patio and, being that it was October, and there was an abundance of fans moving the air around, it was very comfortable outside. I have to say that Squable has some very innovative dishes that I've literally seen nowhere else, so props for pushing the envelope. That being said, I'm not sure that everything hit. But the service was amazing, the quality of each dish was fantastic, and the venue is nice - intimate but not stuffy. Very appropriate for that part of town. The food: We were there on a Tuesday with half price oysters and martinis so I had some of both. Excellent quality for the oysters (New Jersey - who knew they even had oysters there), and my martini was a proper one which is hard to find these days. The oysters were served with a creamy sauce, while delicious, didn't really go with raw oysters. It would have been more appropriate with something fried. Also got the kanpachi crudo small plate. Very good and beautifully plated - maybe a little overly fruit-forward but definitely worth ordering for a light bite. Marinated mussels were interesting - we expected a garlic butter type sauce. This was served more as a cold salad on hot grilled bread. The bread was fantastic. The mussels were fine but I wouldn't order them again. Lamb ribs - tasted pretty much like any other ribs you'd have, lamb or otherwise. I thought they were fine, my husband deemed them inedible! Apparently to "chewy and smoky" - which I thought was all ribs but what do I know. Roasted squash - was expecting butternut or something of the sort but got zucchini which is fine; perhaps they just use whichever kind of squash is good that time of year. It's a great dish but I did find it odd that it was festooned with pickled blackberries. The combo was okay but we ended up picking off the blackberries and just having the zucchini in the cheesy sauce. Food, service and ambiance all hit high notes at this Houston Heights location. I have been in the area few years but finally stopped in when friends came to town. Bottom line I have been back and will be again. The food is creative but still comforting like most of the offerings in Justin Yu's network of partnerships. We really liked the breakfast carbonara, polenta and were fighting for the sourdough (think deconstructed avocado toast). I do have to say the Sammie was recommended but not as exciting as the rest. We went for brunch, have also been for dinner, but prefer brunch. Food: We tried a few different things, but all of them were good to excellent. I'm ranking them from best to worst. 1. Dutch Baby Pancake' This is the best dish I've had at Squable and one of the best dishes for brunch in Houston. The bacon and butter mix so well with the syrup to give a sweet, savory bite of pancake that is delicious for brunch. 2. Oysters Very fresh, not too briny, and ice cold. They are a bit pricey but I would recommend going on Ice Cold Tuesdays to get them half priced. 3. Buttermilk Biscuits Served with strawberry jam and butter, on the flakier side, we love these. They aren't too dense or corn flour flavored, and they are a good thing to have before/after something savory to round your palate out. 4. Breakfast Bolognese This is a really interesting concept as it is a pappardelle pasta with sausage and maple bolognese sauce with an egg on top. Thick noodles that are easy to get with a fork, it's on the richer and savory side. 5. Lobster Roll We liked this mainly for the lobster. The herbs do a good job of making it not a one-bite show. The only critique is that the bun is a bit thin, so any residual juice makes it hard to eat. 6. Hamachi Crudo Clearly, we ordered alot of savory things. This had a citrus flavored sauce and was a fresh punch to cut through the otherwise butter and fat laden meal we had. 7. Beef Fat Tater Tots This was a bit too creamy and drench in sauce. I didn't think that the roe really had a chance to shine in the dish because of that. It also really saturated the tots and ruined a chance at a crisp texture. Service: Excellent service, our drinks were constantly refilled and the dishes came out at a good pace. We've ordered drinks a few times too and those come out fast as well. Ambiance: We've sat both on the shaded patio and indoors. I would definitely recommend the shaded patio. There's fans and an ambient A/C that keep it cool, even when the temperature was 85F+. The only downside was that the chairs are a bit loud when we moved. Indoors is alot louder and a little more cramped, but well controlled on climate. read more

Service, food and ambience all excellent. Stoped here for brunch for the first time and really enjoyed myself. Our sever Julian was very punctual and precise. We arrived without a reservation and were able to score outside bar seats. This is a family share type of place where they suggest you order at least 4-5 things. We ordered the greens, oysters, Dutch baby pancake & lobster roll. The greens came first and were very refreshing. The oysters delicious and the Dutch baby pancake stole the show! I'm not a fan of lobster but I got good reviews for that as well. My cocktail was great. Next time I will get an espresso martini. read more

Finally try out squable, a small restaurant and crowded during dinner time. Ambiance wise not impressive. Service was very nice. On the part of food, personally I don't think is that good . It was OK with super tiny portion for the price. Plus it's too salted for my taste. read more

We had a wonderful time at Squabble. The environment (we were on the patio) was nice and our server was phenomenal. She was kind, attentive, and had lots of insights on the menu. Our favorite item was the mussels toast (not in photos). The sour bread and pancake were also great. I didn't enjoy the cheeseburger as much others but it was still good to try.
