I love a good French restaurant, But I was not too impressed with this one. Now I'll give it to them, the service was excellent, our server was amazing and probably the one of the best servers i have had in a while. What I didn't like was that there were rules when ordering. I had met a friend there and we were really in no rush to order but when we sat down, we were told that we have to order everything all at once because the chef likes to portion it out and we cant order an appetizer and then order dinner later. I really wanted an appetizer, but I just didn't really know what I wanted to eat at that time so eventually, we just asked if they could make an exception since we came at an early time and it wasn't rush-hour. There were like four people in the restaurant and it wasn't crazy packed yet. They did let me order my appetizer first . But just knowing that, makes me not wanna go back there. I understand why they do it, but to the customer it's a little annoying. The restaurant ambience is nice, I wish they had booths though, they have like half booths and nowhere does it really seem intimate or a little bit private. Wasn't too thrilled on the chairs and the comfortability of the furniture . It's kind of basic inside. Parking is kind of hard. I was dropped off, but it's in a hotel so there's like a lot going on. best to Uber. The blue crab appetizer was probably the best blue crab I've ever had in my life. The food and drinks were delicious. No complaints there. It was pricey, and the portions are small. Which is normal for expensive restaurants.

Chardon is an upscale French spot in the Fourth Ward area along Allen. Parking is not great; it's a paid parking lot adjacent to the hotel / restaurant. The interior vibes are very modern and French. The staff are professional and very knowledgeable about their menu. I really enjoyed their appetizers; Crab and endive salad: 5/5, this was a dark horse app and very epic. Great flavors on the crab mix Wagyu steak tartare: 3/5. It was fine Shrimp cocktail: 4/5. Nicely portioned shrimp and cooked well! Escargot de Bourgogne: 4.5/5. These are the best snails I've had in Houston. Cooked really well and the sauce is solid The entrees are less exciting. Steak frites: 3/5. The steak is cooked well but I wasn't a big fan of the lack of crust and texture or the sauce. The duck fat fries are great Chicken club 3.5/5. The club is tasty but the chicken is thin and overcooked and slightly dry Chicken paillard: 3/5. Same feedback about the chicken being dry and a bit overcooked Overall, we enjoyed the apps and it's definitely a great date spot. The ambiance matches the food and the art pieces outside are cool to enjoy before you head into the restaurant

Chardon is located within the Thompson Hotel but felt much more intentional than a typical hotel restaurant. I recommend the valet parking for $10 when dining. It did add a little time, but was worth the low stress since there is not much available parking in the area. The interior of Chardon was incredible polished! Leaning into the French vibes with beautiful furniture, archways, bar, and flowers. I sat at the booths just adjacent to the bar and loved this spot for a casual yet classy atmosphere. For a Thursday early afternoon, there were more diners than I had anticipated and gradually got busier throughout the evening which lended to a very nice ambiance. I met with some girlfriends to try the Happy (Hour) Meal for $20 which included a burger, fries, and dirty martini. A really cute deal and highly recommend for a light meet up! The woman I met sitting next to me was raving about the caramelized onion soup and I will have to try this next time. We ended with some dessert and ordered the Crunchy Profiteroles. It was incredibly delicious and presented so well. I always love anything strawberry and tasted amazing with the basil reduction. This is the type of restaurant I'd typically visit while traveling, and loved making an effort to check this out within my city. Can't wait to come again!

I had such a wonderful time at Chardon for Houston Restaurant Week. The venue, from the moment you step in, is stunning from the flooring to the table settings and to the wall decor. I'm a big fan of impressionism, so it was lovely to see so many impressionist paintings around. Our waiter was very kind and took note of our dietary restrictions (for me nuts). In regards to food, maybe not everything was my favorite, but there were no misses and it was all so delicious. To start, we shared bread and butter at the table, and then I ordered the french onion soup for my first course. The soup was very hot so I had to wait a bit, but otherwise, the cheese was so delicious and I enjoyed the little chunks of bread in the soup. Very tasty. For my second course, I ordered the Amish chicken. The serving was quite large and I actually was so full I had to take the rest home. The standouts to me in that dish were also the peas and mushrooms that came with the chicken. They were soaked in sauce and so delicious. I also tried some of my friend's crispy skin gulf fish, and also really liked that. Not sure if I would order it over the chicken, it would probably depend on my mood, but that was also good. I also tried the beef cheek bourguinon (good but has bacon in it - be aware as I tried it without knowing this!), and the escargo. The escargo was actually good, it was my first time having escargo so I didn't know what to expect, but I do think I liked the soup over it. For dessert, my friends and I also shared. We had the Mille-Feuille (which I ordered), the creme brulee, and the salted caramel profiteroles. All of them were so good, but I do think I enjoyed mine the most. I think it comes down to preference and again, what you're in the mood for. I had a lovely time and would definitely revisit Chardon!

Beautiful place for date night! We had reservations for Saturday night, fairly busy. It's connected to Hotel Thompson and there is valet as well as ample parking around. Beautifully decorated and certainly sets the vibe for a romantic dinner. Our server, Austin, was fantastic. Very friendly and attentive. As always we started the night with drinks: Angels Envy Old Fashioned and The Bayou. Nicely done cocktails. For appetizers we ordered the Bisous Tower and the Crab & Endive salad. Highly recommend the tower!! Perfect bites to sample a bit of everything. The foie gras macaron and the cornbread madeleine were our favorite. Crab & Endive salad was a perfect complement to the tower. Refreshing and light. For entrees we had the Steak Frites and Duck a L'Orange. Steak had a lovely crust and was cooked well. The fries were cooked in duck fat, which surprisingly I wasn't a fan of. The Duck a L'Orange was delicious!! Tasty orange sauce and the skin on the duck was nice and crispy. We ended the night with the Crème Brûlée. We are suckers for crème brûlée and this one was nicely done. You could taste the lemon and the meringue was a lovely touch. Overall wonderful dinner and would recommend to others for a nice dinner out.

Beautiful restaurant that someone with a lot of style and money designed. Friendly unpretentious service for such a hip French style restaurant. Deviled blue crab appetizer was 5 star. Oysters were very good too. Romantic spot.

Unique shaped bread, the butter that went with it was so good!

1st time dining at Chardon & it won't be my last! Service was just right, food tasted amazing & the ambiance is perfect for a dinner when you want to get a bit dressed up or for a special occasion. They have paid self parking in the back (accessed from Gillette or the valet entrance). We got the beef bourgignon & the dover sole (big enough to share between 2 people).. highly recommend both!

I will start by saying that we did not have the typical sit down dinner experience. We arrived late (around 9pm) with a large group and were in search of a venue for our after party. Since we visited with a regular, the staff was kind enough to open the bar area to our party. Parking is mostly valet only from what I was able to see. We initially indicated to the staff that we did not intend on ordering food, but ended up ordering a dozen oysters and many burgers and fries. The oysters were fresh and sweet, served with perfect pairings of their champagne vinegar mignonette and horseradish. Chardon's burger was excellent as well and is served with pickles and caramelized onions. The burger was rich and juicy, the perfect luxury post drinking food. The fries are crispy and served with a rosemary aioli, also excellent. The drinks were strong and tasty as well. What stood out was the overall professionalism of the staff. They served us without hesitation even though they were in the process of closing for the night and being bombarded by 15+ guests late at night is not ideal. The food and drinks were a hit too. Will definitely be back!

I haven't heard about this place at all, they're not a lot of French cuisines in Houston so this was really a great spot to try new cuisines. We shared the beef cheek bouirguignon and the deviled crab. The beef was excellent cause it was paired with mashed potatoes divine. They were so smooth. The beef was very tender melted like butter. I am absolutely thrilled with the dessert part oh my gosh if you don't get any food, please get this dessert. I don't know what it's called but it is a chocolate macaroon and it's filled with hazelnut and raspberries and it's just amazing and if you love hazelnut you'll love this chocolate on chocolate! The ambience was of course Parisian so great for date night big groups. They do have outdoor seating underneath the canopy for Christmas. They have a lot of lights out so it's super festive. Parking is valet or garage Come with friends or come with all. But please get the chocolate dessert!!

Honestly everything was fantastic. From the homemade chips with the steak tartare, to the perfectly peppery steak frites I was in awe. But what seriously blew me away was the corn creme brulee. I cannot stop thinking about this dessert. It had the perfect balance between sweet and salty, and honestly it was just so unique I don't think I've ever had such a memorable version of creme brulee. 1000/10.

Beef Cheek Bourguignon Bacon, Mushrooms, Mashed Potatoes

Staying at The Thompson hotel for business and stopped by the bar at Chardon for dinner. Received top notch service from Sierra. She noticed I was freezing as soon as I sat down and offered me a shawl to keep warm. Enjoyed a perfectly made Hennessy VSOP Sidecar cocktail. It was Restaurant week, so I ordered from their 3 course dinner menu. Started with a Butter lettuce Salad - with a mustard vinaigrette and spiced pecans. 2nd course was a Beef Cheek Bourguignon was rich, tender and delicious. Finished with salted caramel profiteroles. These were full size servings for their restaurant week menu. Service and dinner were a 10/10!

Chardon was absolutely stunning and such a great experience overall. From the moment we walked in, the servers greeted us right away and were incredibly friendly and attentive. The vibe felt open, elevated, and very Parisian upscale without being over the top. I love French food, and the menu had most of the classics along with an impressive range of seafood. The chocolate croissant was decent but definitely didn't come close to the best ones I've had in Houston, let alone France. Steak Frites: 10/10. The meat was tender and perfectly medium rare with a rich, savory flavor. My only complaint was that the sauce was a bit underwhelming. However, spreading the roasted garlic cloves on the steak made it absolutely delicious. The truffle fries were good too, though a little on the greasy side. French Onion Soup: 8/10. The flavor was genuinely so good and comforting. The only downside was how hot it was. I could only take a couple bites the whole time we were there. Crème Brûlée: 6/10. This one disappointed me. The top didn't have that hard shell crack and was instead more of a soft scoop. The custard was pretty bland too. They mentioned it had herbal notes, but all I really got was a plain taste with a light hint of vanilla. Overall, I would come back for their mains and the vibe!

What is the situation with parking there? Does the restaurant have free parking? If not, how much does it cost?

Parking there is the only downside to an excellent restaurant experience. You can self park in the open lot with digital app or valet park which is $25. Chardon will validate the valet but only for a discounted price, not free.

    Is it dog friendly?

No. It is not a casual restaurant.

What is the difference between table reservation at "reatautant" vs "Dining room" ? taking my wife…

There's a bar area seating near the door and other seating further in the restaurant.

Even this time the GPS took us to an entrance that had us going the wrong way down a one-way, but we eventually figured it out I will say that the parking isn't all that great, but we were able to find a spot. If the parking lot is full you should be able to find street parking nearby Kanpai Club is a sister location to Handos. They share a kitchen and you can walk through an inside door access either. You can find the same cocktails and bites from Handos on the Kanpai menu, but there's also additional drinks and bites The bar feels like a Japanese Izakaya. It's a narrow space resembling a Japanese outdoor bar. It's intimately lit and well decorated. We did have to wait for two spots to open up, but that didn't take too long The bartenders were friendly, professional, and efficient. We went on a Friday night (fairly late), and they had two dedicated bartenders The cocktails were fun and were beautifully crafted. Most were served in novelty glassware. You can order classic cocktails, but both Kanpai and Hando offer a variety of signature cocktails. Most having some sort of Japanese or Asian fusion. They have beer, wine, and extensive sake list, as well as green tea and other nonalcoholic options The cocktails were tasty. The only one I was iffy on was their Espresso martini. It was poured from a machine and I guess there were having issues with it. The presentation was phenomenal. There was a roasted marshmallow garnish. The drink itself was far too Smokey in flavor than I like, or at least in terms of my espresso martinis The Yuzu Kosho fries were incredible. The flavors really hit the spot. The Okinawa Potato salad was both questionable to looks and and to eat lol. This purple mound of potato's had an interesting taste, look, and consistency. It wasn't bad, just... interesting and new Some tips: If you can't find this spot from the street, look for Handos. It's part of this restaurant Ask the bartender about the happy hour menu. And most nights they're open until 12am, but on Fridays and Saturdays they are open until 2am If you order food online (technically from Hando's) you can get 10% off using code: HANDO10. This is part of their "Hando and Chill" special Cheers!!

It's located right at 19th St. and Shepherd near the light. There's a small angled parking lot that can be tight when people park along the fence. It looks like a cute tiny A-frame home with a few patio tables in the front. The inner area has about 6-7 high tables. It's nice and clean inside. The vibe feels similar to H-Town Brewing Co. but on a smaller scale. You can also sit at the bar. I didn't really like the high tables/chairs. They're not as comfortable. It was hot out, and there are mosquitos, so we sat inside. I ordered the salmon plate for steak night. The drinks here are ok, and since I don't really drink, I was looking for mocktail options. In this era, most places have mocktail options with brand alternatives like Ritual, Seedlip and Lyre's or at the least, something with juice, Topo Chico and simple syrup. The female bartender made me a NA margarita which was great. I liked that she didn't make it too sweet or too tart which happens with mocktails that don't have alternatives and are mostly juice or lemon. On the other hand, when I ordered a second, the guy bartender made it too sweet. I didn't like his version. For the alcoholic versions, they seem to have good cocktails, wine, beer and flights. They also have daily specials. Aside from the steak night, they don't serve food here. It wouldn't be my first choice of bars in this area.
