Always a fantastic time at Hypsi. They have such delicious food, the restaurant is in hotel Daphne with beautiful decor, and the servers are very attentive.

Great new Italian restaurant inside Hotel Daphne in the Heights! It is a sister property to Perseid/Hotel Saint Augustine - so you already know it's going to be great! It is fairly small, so try to get a reservation if you can. However, this is also a plus, because it makes the space feel all the more intimate. Everything we ate was delicious. Be sure to try the mozzarella cart! They mix it table-side and it is so fun.

Great new restaurant!! The staff from the hostess to the waiters were tremendously helpful and knowledgeable about everything on the menu. The restaurant is attached to the hotel, they offer complementary valet and you can sit indoors or outdoors while enjoying your meal. We had dinner inside then stepped out to the patio area for post dinner cocktails.

A new gem! We came here on a Saturday night for dinner - had to make reservations about a week in advance and even then we could only get patio seating for an early dinner. So definitely make reservations in advance! We took the patio seating opportunity to bring our pup, since they're dog friendly. Located at the Daphne Hotel, the ambience is really nice and trendy. The patio was beautiful and is definitely going to be a popular place to hang out as the weather warms up. The food was all great! Homemade focaccia with ricotta spread and pistachios- 4/5. Can't go wrong with bread and cheese. Squash blossoms - 5/5- these were fried and filled with some sort of cheese. Very tasty - felt almost like an elevated jalapeno popper. Squid ink radiatori- 4/5 - this was tasty and different! Definitely had a spicy kick to it and I liked the texture difference with the fried calamari on it. Snapper - 5/5 - this was my favorite - perfectly cooked and crispy. Service was really friendly and quick. We'll definitely be back to hang out on the patio for some cocktails!

Hypsi at The Daphne Hotel has a very chic, hip vibe and beautiful décor. Service was friendly but not especially attentive. The wine pours were very generous. We started with the lamb meatballs, beef tartare, and grilled octopus. The lamb meatballs were delicious and comforting, served with yummy toasted buttered bread. The grilled octopus was very flavorful and nicely cooked. The beef tartare was presented on top of a piece of bread, which was different, but I didn't love it. For entrées, we ordered the Cavatappi, Beef short rib brasato, Duroc pork Milanese, and Roasted snapper. The Cavatappi was hands down everyone's favorite dish. It was creamy, incredibly flavorful, not too heavy, and it just melted in your mouth. The roasted snapper was my second favorite. It was light yet robust with flavor. The short rib brasato was a bit dry and underwhelming. The Duroc pork Milanese was my least favorite. The pork was very bland, and the dandelion salad on top had a strange flavor that didn't work for me. For dessert, we tried the tres leches tiramisu and the pistachio pie, and unfortunately both were disappointing. The tiramisu portion was generous but all the ladyfingers and coffee flavor were concentrated at the very bottom. The pistachio pie was a miss for the whole table. It initially tasted like key lime pie. The top raspberry layer tasted citrusy orange and clashed badly with the pistachio base layer. None of us enjoyed it. That said, the atmosphere and the Cavatappi would bring me back. Next time, I'd love to try the roasted beets which looked really good.

Hypsi is a place you wish you had in your neighborhood and if you're in this part of Houston, you're lucky you do. The area itself is great and Hypsi fits right in. Very comfortable inside and out. Blown away by the breakfast sandwich, it's a 10/10, sausage was perfect. The breakfast potatoes were crispy, well-seasoned, and way better than your typical side. Really great coffee. Other than breakfast, the drinks and calamari at happy hour also crushed. Service was awesome across the board. You can tell they care about what they're doing. Overall, this is a spot I'll definitely be coming back to. There's a lot more on the menu I want to try.

This place is all about the atmosphere and ambiance. It's absolutely beautiful--set in a stunning hotel in a gorgeous area. Honestly, you don't even feel like you're in Houston. The vibe is just right, especially sitting outside where the noise level was perfect for a relaxed experience. The service was good overall, but I wasn't very impressed with the menu. That said, the mozzarella cart was a standout, and the lamb meatballs were also delicious. Unfortunately, the main course didn't quite live up to expectations. I would definitely come back for drinks, appetizers, and to enjoy the ambiance--it's worth it for the experience alone.

Chili burrata and our lovely waitress
    Joyce A.

The best part of this restaurant is they're not afraid to make their food spicy. The burrata with chili crunch and spicy Caesar salad were my favorite. We shared beef tartar, orichette, rasiotori, and cavatappi. The orichette was my favorite. The pepperoncini martini and chenin blanc were good. The other cocktail were sweet for me. My friends really liked the calabrian chili whiskey sour. The hotel lobby and the restaurant are beautiful. Our waitress was amazing.

Came here for an early dinner after work. Ordered a lemon drop martini, focaccia, the beef short rib w Brussel sprouts, and the tres leches tiramisu (dessert to go). Everything was delicious. I feel like it's been a while since a dish stopped me in my tracks but the short rib did just that. From the start, I enjoyed my time here. I parked on the street, was met by the hostess who was so sweet! My waitress was also very friendly. The atmosphere and decor definitely has Instagram potential but in a classy way and non a neon-sign-catchy-slogan kind of way. Take your gal on a date night here! Order the short rib! It would be great if it had more options for someone with food allergies. There wasn't a lot of gluten free options.

After the closure of Elro I was happy to see Terrence Galivan back in the mix with this new restaurant in the heights. I have been a couple of times since they opened in mid December and have been very impressed with both the food and decor. Good service, cool bar scene and even a cozy fireplace. Top dishes include the mozzarella cart, lumache alla vodka and roasted chicken. Also highly recommend the chocolate souffle! Excited to see how this restaurant evolves with the expansion of the hotel.

Came for the first week of being open. The hotel and this restaurant are such a great cohesive design. It drips with elegance and comfort. The front hostess was so very nice upon arrival and gave us a great background on the hotel and restaurant. We got some lovely cocktails which all were perfect flavors and complimented the meals flavors very well. Tried the octopus and the cavatappi. Both were very decent but think there is room for the dishes to have a bit more flavor. Will definitely be back for happy hours to try more cocktails and appetizers.

We were looking forward to finally having an Italian restaurant in Houston heralded by someone with a reputation. We were very disappointed. While we've become accustomed to the grand plot of all Houston pasta chefs' refusal to cook past al dente, we've never paid New York/Chicago top Italian prices for pasta not cooked al dente. The cavatappi was actually over cooked. Pasta should never be overcooked for $15 let alone $30 We waited about 40 minutes after placing our pasta order to receive it, so it's possible the dish sat and that's why the pasta was overcooked. We don't fault them for the delay, they're new and it takes time to work out the kinks. The vodka pasta was fine but it was drowning in sauce and had no "kick". Not necessary to have so much sauce with that type of noodle. The service was attentive and kind, the ambiance is beautiful. Maybe they're just working things out, but take the pasta off 2 mins earlier, take it easy on the sauce, add some heat, and knock 15% off the price and this place has the potential to be a neighborhood gem.

Their appetizers were solid, both pasta dishes were delicious, and flavor and portions were solid. Their pizza style is a thicker crust style and we weren't a fan of the duck pizza at all, and their pepperoni based pizza was fine. Not the biggest fan of their dough or crust. I can't believe I've lived in Houston for this many years and never stopped by Houston Dairymaids…read more I learned that they're the backbones of many restaurants' cheese selections, and I had to trace it back to the origin. A small, discreet shop with a backyard-like parking lot, it's unassuming on the outside but full of character on the inside. Upon entering, you're welcomed with samples of the five cheeses of the week, generally going from soft to firmer and stronger. Their cheeses are displayed in a small fridge, but you can always request varietals ahead of time if you've got something in mind. We bought blue cheese they had on sample (the "Ewe Calf to be Kidding" from Wisconsin, a triple-milk (sheep, cow, and goat)) and the last of their Capricorn Goat Blue cheeses for about $10/piece. Since they rotate out their cheeses weekly, it may become a regular stop on our weekend grocery trips (they mention that many people do that). They also mentioned that their wines rotate out and they have a good relationship with local distributors to understand what pairs well with their cheeses. They also let you start an account so that you can keep a history of all the cheese you buy. You better bet that I signed up. They're celebrating their 20 year anniversary in Houston. I wish I had come earlier to experience some of those years. It's got to be a cornerstone of Houston cheese and probably the among the best cheesemongers in Houston.

I ended up picking up two blue cheeses--penicillium-based cheeses are definitely my favorite. One of the highlights was discovering Shooting Star Creamery and their zodiac-inspired cheeses. I took home the Capricorn Blue and am excited to try it! I also learned what a quince fruit is for the first time and got to try their quince jelly, which they use as a palate cleanser after samples--such a thoughtful touch. Bonus: I found out that Blue Dorn and Navy Blue source their cheese from here, which makes perfect sense given the quality. Definitely a spot I plan to become a regular at!

I wish they gave us more bread with the cheeses and preserves. The four cheeses provided were slices of a five-year aged Cheddar, Oveja Anejo, Tomarashi, and Gruyere. I enjoyed the Tomarashi the most. It is a bit pricey for what you get, but very sharable and a great starter. Shady Acres Pizza with prosciutto (3.5/5): I really don't like getting thin crust pizza that isn't crispy, and unfortunately this was a soggy thin crust pizza. The toppings themselves were very flavorful, and the end parts were crispy enough. 5 Cheese Calzone with chicken (3.5/5): Whew, five cheeses makes for a salty calzone. The side marinara sauce provides a good balance. It's very filling. Chicken might have been a good addition because prosciutto might have made it too salty. It was larger than expected which was nice for sharability. Service was kind of iffy. They were pretty rude with not providing us utensils and seeming almost angry that we asked for some for the cheese board. There were also maybe less than 10 half thin slices of sausage in there and 3 slivers of onion, which seemed tiny for the $25 charge. The pesto was room temperature and was also bland ($15).
