TLDR: Rats, slow service, and rude staff Extremely disappointing experience. We chose Trattoria Sofia for my fiancé's 30th birthday. We waited at least an hour for our wine that we ordered. Not even mixed drinks. Asked the waitress nicely if she could check on our drinks and she was rude. We had long finished our appetizer by the time the drinks arrived. The whole service was excruciatingly slow. Then while we were eating a RAT went running up the fake tree in the center of the restaurant directly next to our table. We stopped by on a Friday night, and the vibes of this spot did not disappoint! The ambiance was top tier and love a restaurant with a moody vibe. We ordered a bit of everything from the menu including the Pomodoro + chicken, Margherita Pizza, Whipped Ricotta, and the Olive Oil cake. Food was good but there are a few other spots in Houston that are a bit better. The Pomodoro sauce lacked in flavor and we may have preferred a vodka sauce or pesto dish - but all personal preference. We did have a reservation and were sat in the bar area. They were pretty busy and it did take awhile to get our server for things like a dessert order or the check. Best bet is to get a table in the dining room. Came here Sunday afternoon for dinner. Had the Pomodoro Campanella which taste like a can of Ragu, which is also good. We also had the Sicilian Pesto, also tasty. Our party of nine arrived without a reservation and we were pleasantly surprised to be seated quickly. We kicked off the night at the bar with a few classic cocktails but unfortunately, the drinks were very lackluster for the price point. The food however, truly impressed us. The delivery was fast, and we appreciated all the dishes arrived to the table altogether making it easy to share. Fritto Miso, Pomodoro, Chicken Marsala, and Pizza were enjoyable. Our absolute favorites were Shrimp Scampi, Oven-Roasted Octopus, and Prosciutto Burrata. Each dish was well executed and we ended up clearing every plates. My friend & I came here for the HRW menu. First of all, the parking is valet, so if you don't want to do that, good luck trying to find street parking. Once we were inside, we were taken to our table and given menus immediately. It's dimly lit inside and the restroom was pretty clean. We had two different waiters, most probably because the first waiter's shift ended and it was an hour away from closing time, I believe, but both were very nice! My friend & I ordered a drink each which were good. Then we each ordered different items from the HRW menu -- Caesar salad & whipped ricotta for the appetizers, heritage chicken Parmesan & Cacio e Pepe with grilled chicken, and vanilla new pannacotta & tiramisu. If you have any ricotta left over save it and put it on your pasta dish. Trust me. The second dish I got was the Lamb Ragu (4/5). The pasta was perfectly Al dente and the meat (while being quite sparse.. I got 5 pieces through the whole dish) was juicy and flavorful. The lamb honestly reminded me of carne guisada with how tender, flakey, and flavorful it was. The meat did not taste gamey at all. I've had some lamb that I didn't like in the past and this one was great. The tomato sauce was ok. I never looked at the menu so I couldn't speak to pricing or choices but everything that was brought to the table for us to share family style was fire. This place is a delicious, vibey restaurant, fun for a birthday or a romantic date night. We have always loved the whipped ricotta appetizer and it is a requirement for us every time we go! The fresh bread basket is always a must as well. They have a Calabrian like chili butter with it which is a unique but yummy addition. One time we went we got a special, which was some sort of fish pasta. It was okay but the appetizers stole the show. The vinaigrette for my salad just tasted weird- wasn't sweet, wasn't savory. I asked the waitress if she had another vinaigrette, but they were limited. I went here during Houston Restaurant Week and it was okay. I would give a 3.5 if halves were possible. Like most people said, their private parking lot is reserved for valet ($6 from what I remember) and for free parking you would have to do street parking. I had a reservation at 6:45 and I arrived at 6:30 and they made us wait til closer to our reservation time to seat us which is understandable so I guess try not to go in too early if you have a reservation. After we were seated it took about 10 minutes for our waitress to come by and honestly the whole night we barely saw our waitress. It was a Sunday night so it was definitely considered a busier night in the week but it seems like they were either understaffed or just didn't have enough people at the moment. The food was good for the most part. The $39 menu option included an appetizer, main course, and dessert. My table ordered the bread basket separately from the HRW menu and it was basically a waste of the money. Even if they make claims the bread is fresh/homemade, they refrigerate it to preserve freshness but don't bother to at least warm it up so you get served dry and cold bread. From the HRW menu I got the Whipped Ricotta (that came with toasted bread so no idea why they don't warm up their other breads), Sicilian Pesto Bucatini (pesto is strong and flavorful which I like), and Vanilla Bean Pannacotta. I enjoyed everything I had ordered from the HRW menu and would definitely recommend the items I had gotten to others. Would I go here again though? A special celebration date night :) the ambiance and beautiful interior designs are 10/10 for a date dinner. We sat in the patio which was very cutesy too, although I wish they had better lighting so when taking pictures it won't be kinda blurry or fuzzy. Also the fans are great but can get little cold at night for the girls not wearing jackets. Service was wonderful, very attentive all the time. However, the food was alright, maybe because we had higher expectations reading about this place from online articles. The pizza was perfect thin crust, and has a toasty oven flavor which I love, but the honey and Prosciutto combo is very unique for me for the first time. Pesto pasta and the breaded chicken (very juicy and saucy) are both 8.5/10, no wonder they are one of their most popular. Very classy spot for a date or gathering dinner night. But didn't really like the valet parking lot for $6 even though the lot is right in front of the restaurant, and that there are several empty tables around us during our dinner but we only got a small two table for two, so not only it was inconvenient for us to take selfies together, but also they served us two plates of food at a time because our table can't fit all dishes obviously. I would love to eat bits of everything at once instead of feeling like I have to finish a plate before I get my other dishes served. This is one of our favorite restaurants in Houston! We love coming to Trattoria Sofia for an early dinner on Friday or Saturday night and sit at the bar. There is just enough buzz at that time to be interesting but it's not crazy or loud. My husband always enjoys their inventive cocktails or his failsafe, a Negoni. I like their crisp white Pinot Grigo by the glass. As for food, the whipped ricotta drizzled with spicy honey and charred garlic is wonderful as is the truffled Polenta with sauteed mushrooms. That along with the Kale Salad is perfect. My husband is more adventurous and has had fun trying many of their dishes such as the Lamb Ragu (A+), Bucatini with Pesto and Cioppino with mussels. Traittoria Sofia is an Italian restautant located in the Heights. I went midday on Saturday, and the restaurant was fairly empty with plenty of seating. However, it took a few minutes to be seated. Once we were seated, the server rarely came to check on us afterwards. The food also took a considerable amount of time to come out, and the server also forgot also about our sparkling water. We ordered the Bucatini Alla Pesto Siciliano and Casarecce Alla Norma. I normally do not gravitate towards pesto, but I enjoyed the Bucatini Alla Pesto. It tasted refreshing with the lemon zest and was a good order for the hot summer day, and you can definitely taste the pistachio. The Casarecce Alla Norma was vegetarian and was advertised as a spicy red pasta, but the sauce had no hint of spice and was more like a standard tomato sauce pasta dish. I liked how they had breadcrumbs to give texture to the dish. I do wish the pasta portions, especially for the pesto pasta, were slightly bigger. There is a parking lot for the restaurant, but it is valet only during the weekends. There is limited space for parallel parking. Overall, I did enjoyed the pesto dish and liked how they had vegetarian options, but the lukewarm service and parking might deter me from visiting again. read more

I came here with my family before Easter, and it had been a while since our last visit--so I was excited to try a few different pastas and, of course, their pizza. To start, the meatballs were as delicious as ever, and the fried risotto balls were absolutely amazing--crispy and flavorful. The octopus was highly recommended by our server for its tenderness, but unfortunately, it ended up being a bit too chewy for me, so I didn't finish it.
