Tried out this place for Houston Restaurant Week and it did not disappoint! I went for a 5:45 reservation and was able to grab a seat at the bar and catch the tail end of happy hour. To drink, I had the espresso martini and spiced pear mocktail. Both were amazing. The martini was well balanced. As my first course I had the Caesar salad, which was not that great (an average salad). For my second course, I had the bucatini alla pesto which was AMAZING. I had never had a pesto pasta and thoroughly enjoyed this. As my last course, I opted for the vanilla bean panna cotta. The texture was interesting but the flavor was good. Would give a positive recommendation except for the fact they charge a "RESTAURANT OPERATIONS FEE" that is a PERCENTAGE of your bill!!! This is Texas - NOT California or New York. Any restaurant that has to charge an adjustable FEE (3% of total bill) to supplement their business and can't out fixed pricing for food, does not deserve to be in business! Can you imagine if every restaurant or fast food did this? Ridiculous! Doesn't matter how bad or good the food or atmosphere might be, this is not how a restaurant is run. Very sad. read more

First time here and we decided to do Houston Restaurant Week. We ordered the three course meal and started with the Whipped Ricotta - warm spicy honey, fried garlic, Calabrese pepper & mint w/ toasted ciabatta which was delicious but slightly unbalanced. Too much ricotta and not enough ciabatta. The waitress did give us an option to order more bread. Then we split the Cacio e Pepe tonnarelli pasta - pecorino romano & black pepper and added shrimp along with the Chicken Marsala - roasted chicken breast, creamy marsala mushroom sauce. Both were delicious. You could have added black truffle to the tonnarelli pasta for $30, we passed on that. Then we split the desserts the Vanilla Bean Pannacotta - berries, brown butter crumbles and the Gelato - pistachio. Both were delicious. Overall a great experience. Though the waitress could have been more attentive. I had to ask for ice tea twice before it was refilled. The back covered patio area was beautiful and cute but when it started raining the roof leaked a bit. So make sure you're not under the roof where it meets the building. Would definitely come back though there isn't a lot of parking and the sorta make you valet and pay $6 which is unfortunate. Finding street parking can be difficult. read more

There is street parking down but it fills up pretty quickly and you may have a bit of a walk down to the restaurant. Valet does accept venmo and CC. I thinks it's about $6 Seating: They have 3 areas: the bar has a few high tops and bar seating, inside has tables and booths from 2-4 (maybe 6) tops, and the outside patio has more seating as well The patio is partially cooled. We went for an early dinner the other day and it was quite hot out there, but moved under a fan and it was lovely. Food: The food is always amazing! I'm a fan of anything with pesto so I do admit I frequently get the same dish. We tried the pasta special this time as well which was a seafood option - it was absolutely delicious but at a $52 price point really put quite a dent in our bill itself. Service: We usually have pretty good service but this last time it was lacking. Our server was very attentive at first but we had to flag people down multiple times towards the end for to-go boxes and the check. Price: We've been coming here for years but have noticed the prices creep quite a but lately. It's definitely on the higher end in our experience these days. Outstanding Service from Nya! I typically don't write reviews but I couldn't end my Houston trip without giving her a wonderful review. Our party of 7 had such a great experience thanks to our server, Nya. She was incredibly nice and energetic from the moment we sat down. What really stood out was how informative she was -- she knew the menu inside and out and made some awesome recommendations. Portions are unbalanced; for example, the ricotta cheese appetizer comes with a medium bowl of cheese but only three small pieces of bread, so you are force to order more bread for extra charge if you want to finish the cheese bowl. On top of that, all the private parking spaces are RESERVED ONLY FOR VALET, so you're forced to PAY $6.00 for parking. Then there's the unexpected 3% "RESTAURANT OPERATION FEE " added to the bill, plus the EXTRA CHARGE for BREAD, and even a FEE for a small birthday dessert after asking if we were celebrating -- something most restaurants offer as a courtesy. Galentine's is always needed to show some appreciation for the girlies. This year we went to Trattoria Sofia.We went on the day of their event and sat on the patio. It is covered and can be sat on even during the rain. I'd recommend sitting here for brunch. Brighter than the inside for sure. I arrived before my friends. Although the others weren't there yet Jasmine still gave me plenty of attention getting me a drink promptly. She also got me the purse stand which was nice off the bat. She made sure that I knew each of the menus including the special one. We ordered the whipped ricotta for the appetizer. The bread was nice and fresh. The frittata was delightful. So fluffy and a huge portion. All for the portions were generous. When the focaccia wasn't ready when we first got there the manager brought one over to us. It was amazing! What a wonderful Thanksgiving dinner! (Minus the double whiskey pours that cost an arm LOL, YOLO) I did my research for restaurants open on Thanksgiving Day that wasn't too "meat heavy" on their menus. This place came up with more options than the other places with prix fixe menus. After reading reviews, it was decided the best way to get here without parking or valet hassle was Uber/Lyft. Especially during a holiday. I booked the reservation for 4PM to beat the dinner crowd. However, when we arrived, the hostess mentioned there will be a bit of a wait. The wait: 50 minutes... During that time we ordered some Woodford Reserve Whiskey, double pours (3 oz each). Once we were seated, our server came over to introduce themselves. I chose the branzino and my partner chose the turkey for the main protein course. The side dishes were family style ideally for sharing. Each diner got a portion of the squash ravioli and that was delicious! We ordered an additional bread basket. Unfortunately, we returned it because the breads weren't soft and the butter wasn't anything special. All in all, a lovely experience. This place definitely has a romantic ambiance. We were a large party that came for Easter Brunch like we have in prior years. This year the experience was not up to our expectations. The food took forever to be served, and they forgot an order for a member of our party. My wife's poached eggs had runny egg whites and asked it to be cooked properly. Several members of our party indicated that their food was cold. We made the mistake of ordering dessert and it took over 40 minutes to serve three gelatos and a tiramisu. The tiramisu was the last piece in the pan and our waiter butchered it in trying to scoop it out of the pan and some of it fell onto the table. I liked the fact they have valet and all the staff is very welcoming but also knowledgeable, our waiter was amazing, he know so much about the dishes, the wines, the Italian cuisine and culture, this made the experience delightful. The food was hit and miss, the appetizers and the desserts delicious but the main meal not really, he recommended the signature dish of the restaurant, and it was honestly very bland, it literally tasted like pasta water, the cream and the pasta tasted like the water you cook the pasta in, it was very disappointing but I decided not to let this ruin my dinner. Trattoria Sofia was the perfect Italian dinner spot for a friend's birthday! Beautiful ambiance between the dim lighting, greenery, and wood accents. What set this place apart was the service. The service was attentive without being overbearing. They even gave the birthday celebrant a handwritten card, the manager personally came over to check on us and wish him a happy birthday, and the birthday dessert was a nice touch. Food wise we tried a bit of everything. Starting off, their negroni bianco sbagliato is fantastic and beautifully clear. Next we had their bruschetta and bread service. Entree wise we had their brick chicken special, cacio e pepe, bucatini pesto, margarita pizza, lamb ragu, and chicken parmesan. Dessert was a light olive oil cake with a whipped ricotta whipped cream, not too sweet and the perfect ending. All of the entrees were tasty. If possible, I'd want the chicken parmesan with a side of the bucatini pesto pasta. Overall, Trattoria Sofia is perfect for a date night or intimate birthday dinner. My only complaint is that the menu prices are definitely a little steep for their portion sizes. But given the quality and the location in the heights, this is somewhat expected. Enjoy! PS. Had my 23rd birthday here with parents and it was perfect. Delicious dishes and wonderful ambiance. The space is wonderfully decorated and transports you from the outside world. Overall good experience, but I feel the service could improve. We waited 35 minutes past our reservation time to be sat along with most of the other tables. The bar area was packed waiting for our tables to be ready. The food was good. I was quite disappointed in the "Sicilian pesto" bucatini. Sicilian pesto is not green, it is made with tomatoes making it pink/red pesto. I ordered the dish expecting the traditional Sicilian pesto, other than that the dish was good and flavorful. Came to Trattoria Sofia for a birthday dinner booked in advance for a group of 14. We arrived before the reservation with the entire party and STOOD waiting for our table for an HOUR. There were other parties/duos that also were waiting or got seated before us, so they brought out some cheese balls to the waiting area to appease us. The gesture was lackluster and the hostess stand ladies were also no help, just kept saying another group was still at the table :) Props to our server who was prompt and comped appetizers for the table, but genuinely embarrassed that I had a large group of people relying on my organization of a birthday that turned into a 4 hour ordeal for our group and made us late to our next commitment. Sunday afternoon visit, arrived at 4:30 PM and the parking lot was empty, but signs said, "Valet Only", so they have no self-parking at the restaurant, if you don't want valets in your car, you must park on the street. Since my wife had knee surgery 4 days before I parked in the valet and just walked in. Horrible first impression. I'm so tired of these forced valet parking in space close to the restaurant while letting customers find parking on the street. Once we were seated things got much better. Service was vey good, our waiter was helpful and not intrusive. We order a bottle of wine to start, then selected the HRW menu. When we decided to select a different wine after the first bottle, they didn't have it in stock, which was disappointing, but survivable. Food was excellent! I had the roasted beets for the starter, Bucatini for the main and Olive Oil cake for dessert. I've had a lot of beet salads (I love beets) and I'd have to say this is one of the best I've had! The addition of apples to the mix was a new twist for me and it completed the cheese and beets very well. The Bucatini was very oily, in fact, over oily. Great flavors, but it was swimming in olive oil which took away from the overall taste and presentation. If you're planning to use a credit card, be ready for a 3-1/2% premium added to your bill. Went to Trattoria Sofia after some out of town family came to visit and a recommendation from a coworker. For starters, this location has a parking lot but is strictly reserved for valet on the weekends. Luckily, we got a parallel parking spot close since we came at 4 PM. Service here is questionable to say the least. The host stand had difficulty finding a table for four when the restaurant was...empty. I understand the potential for overlapping reservations but at 4 PM on a Saturday..? Not sure how the wait staff is assigned but the person taking our order was never seen again and it seemed like we weren't taken seriously and being treated as children. In addition, their pasta must be made fresh at the time of order because it took over 35 minutes to bring me my one pasta dish in a relatively empty restaurant. I got the "XYZ". +1 for presentation as the dish is visually stunning. However, the pasta was okay to me. In fairness, Italian cuisines are not my usual cup of tea. For the interior, the inside is what I would imagine an ideal date night would be. A very classy yet not too classy feel. Dishes/cups and silverware were already set at the table so I highly advise for men to not come in shorts and a tshirt. We sat on the patio and it is honestly one of the most beautiful restaurants I've been to. My friend and I shared the Pesto Pasta (sorry I don't remember the actual name), Chicken Parmesan, and Beets Appetizer. Food was amazing. I don't even like beets but they were so refreshing and the combination of the sauce and crushed pistachios was great. I've seen the Pesto Pasta featured and it truly lives up to its name, SO creamy and flavorful. Chicken Parmesan was nicely cooked and juicy but quite small. Overall, I thought the food was rather expensive for what it was. I shared the dishes pictured with a friend, along with 2 glasses of wine, and the total came out to be $60 per person including tips. I received a call last weekend from the restaurant's managerial team apologizing for the situation and acknowledging they could have handled our table better. From their great selection of wine, their appetizers, and their entrees the food is amazing. I would personally not recommend the chicken parm dish, (i thought the chicken was too tough and chewy) but highly recommend their pesto dish and the cacio e Pepe which is so simple, but very very well done. The server was very attentive and gave great recommendations including the off menu dishes. Make sure to ask if your server happens to forget. The interior design is so amazing. We decided to come for dinner tonight for our date night. What was supposed to be a nice evening turned out to be a nightmare. The food was ok, but our car got towed. There were no tow signs. We parked in front of a house that only said not to block the driveway. It would have been nice if the restaurant had given us a warning.
