From top (a mostly consumed): Pot pie Meat and cheese platter Halumi and Tomato salad with Parmesan salmon.
    Amanda G.

We were looking for food somewhere in the vicinity of Toyota Center before an event. My mother in law mentioned a log while back meeting her sister at Phoenicia for lunch, and since we parked near by, figured we'd pop in and try it out. We walked in on the grocery side so we were kinda like ehhhhh, maybe not. But once we turned the corner all apprehension went poof. The waitress told us to seat ourselves and was prompt bringing menus to us and getting our drink order. She was super helpful on recommendations and any tweaks (more on that later). While we waited on food and drinks, love that there is local art all over the walls. Very fun pieces to look at! (Most looked to be Diane Gelman - and I'd be lying if I said I wasn't interested in a few of her pieces). Anyways, on to the food! We got the meat and cheese platter, he got the pot pie, I got the halumi and tomato salad with added parm salmon. Our waitress recommended the lemon vinaigrette - I got some on the side and went with the sherry vinaigrette it comes with on it, but it was such a great addition. I absolutely loved my dish. Meat and cheese platter was great, hubs said the pot pie was very good as well. Portions were good sized - no complaints. Y'all, I remembered the photo this time, albeit half eaten. Price wasn't bad at all - for an app, a soda, two drinks, and two entrees with some added cost - with tax and tip we were still under $100. Definitely bookmarking MKT bar for next time we have something to go to in the area!

We stopped by MKT bar after going to a nearby festival where the food was meh and it was just what we needed! The waffles were great and the syrup and cardamom whipped cream were so delicious. My husband got a side of bacon and we both loved it. Our waitress was so fun and sweet and when we were done we enjoyed exploring the market, which is a pretty impressive size for the location btw!

The service is friendly, although a bit slow at times. The food options offer lite bites but also some choices for an entire meal, the prices are reasonable. This is attached to Phoenicia so it's the perfect spot to sit down, have some food, and check out the international items that Phoenicia has to offer before or after. There is street parking and Phoenicia also offers garage parking although that can feel a bit tight.

MKT bar offers a more upscale restaurant experience compared to its neighboring phonecia's hot bars. Since they're typically a bar, service is definitely on the slower side for food. Dishes are a mix of American and Mediterranean cuisine. Got the zataar fries, sweet potato fries and the Mediterranean chicken skewers. Fries were addicting and the garlic aoli paired perfectly with it. They messed up on bringing a side of Brussel sprouts that we requested bringing it towards the end of the meal after we reminded them of it. And on top of that it wasn't covered in bacon and cheese which it didn't have. It's a decent spot but I'd say go for drinks rather than food.

How things have changed since that visit. I've been to MKT bar many times in the past two years, but today's experience was enough to make me change my mind. If an employee named Jordan answers the phone, please ask to speak with someone else. Jordan is unaware that when you place an order online, your location is requested, which gives you the impression that the order will be brought to your car. When I indicated this to Jordan she had an issue. She is unaware of how the system works and was unwilling to take a look at the screenshot that I took to share with her. When I entered when I entered to pick up my food, Jordan was talking with friends and refused to hand me my food. She tried to pretend that I was rude to her. I was not at all rude, but went immediately into teacher mode to help her understand something she was unaware of. Who knows how long my food was waiting, but it was worth it to educate Jordan. *Jordan did not introduce herself. My apologies if I misspelled her name.

Went here for a team lunch and had a decent time. We can early so there wasn't a wait or it wasn't packed. The ambiance was pretty cool. There is a stage area with a piano, I'm sure there lots of open mic nights or some sort of entertainment that happens at this bar. We ordered pizza and fries and everything was pretty good. Nothing really stood out to me but it was tasty and I would go back again

We came on a very busy day but left very happy overall. Steak night was well worth it. We will definitely be back.

Great every time we go and everything we get is awesome. Five stars for George as well. No one makes you feel more at home and glad to see you come in than him. Brunch, steak night, happy hour, they do it all. Live music at brunch to boot. All this and attached to a world class market! This is a must do!

Surprisingly good prices and food options. I split the tangy wings (which were large), the cauliflower bites (looked tiny but tasted amazing), and the MKT salad for two of us and it was under $50. We also got gelato afterward and their flavors were delicious. Great spot before catching a Rockets game or concert at Toyota Center!

MKT Bar is never the first place that pops into my mind when I'm looking for breakfast/brunch, but honestly it should - it boasts a vast menu, opens earlier than other morning eateries in Downtown, offers free garage parking, and is conveniently attached to Phoenicia, the Mediterranean/international supermarket at which I aspire to do all my grocery shopping. I recently went back to MKT last weekend for brunch prior to a matinée at the Downtown AMC - here are my thoughts on what we tried: Hill-Country Chicken & Waffle - It's your standard chicken and waffle, played straight. The waffle is crisp and tasty, though I felt the chicken was a bit dry/boring. Next time I'd probably choose one of the other more exciting menu options. Baklava Pancakes - I am definitely not a pancake person, yet I really loved these! They remind me of the thin German pancakes that I used to get at IHOP: thicker and bouncier than a crêpe, but much slimmer than a traditional buttermilk. They're layered with crushed pistachios, freshly sliced figs, and a floral orange blossom honey...so good! Choco-Halva Latte - This espresso drink caught my eye when I was looking for a fun caffeinated pick-me-up. The waiter assured me it wouldn't be too sweet and he was thankfully correct - think of a rich, dark mocha with nutty, toasted undertones. This was great paired with the sweet pancakes! Service was speedy and very cordial - we were in-and-out in 45 minutes and had some spare time to peruse the supermarket prior to our showtime. I'll be back soon to eat my way through the rest of the menu!

Solo dinner on 3/25/2025 after a hectic day at the conference center + Food on point (I had salmon with asparagus and quinoa & shoestring fries) + Drinks on point (I had the raspberry Mojito) + Post dinner coffee on point (I had the iced mocha) + Staff are friendly, efficient, and attentive + Cool, chill vibes all around + Cool decor Highly recommended!

So I really like Mkt Bar. Everything is fresh, they use quality ingredients. From time to time I come on my lunch break. Generally will sit at the bar to expedite service as I don't have long to order and eat. Staff is accommodating and nice. However, I do feel they are understaffed. The clientele that comes here wants interaction not just order taking so that pulls the staff from attending to other guest. I'm a low maintenance guest that doesn't really need much conversation if I'm there for lunch but I need to get in and out. Today I ordered the fish and chips. I did ask the bartender which to choose between the chicken skewers or fish. Sometimes I just don't want to decide I like to hear other suggestions outside my own gut. The fish was cooked perfectly and was accompanied with an aioli, Zataar fries, and coleslaw. I requested hot sauce and the bartender ensured I had it before my food was there. That was a nice touch. My fries were cold though which she immediately communicated it to be fixed. I appreciated the effort and them making it right. Although I would have like to enjoy my entire dish I paid full price for and tipped together not separate. Management take the opportunity to be accountable and give a discount for the inconvenience next time there is a kitchen hiccup.

It was delicious. This was on my list because Seed Oil Scout states that they don't use seed oils. I got a chicken sandwich and we had the plantain chip appetizer and everything was absolutely delicious. Service wasn't top-tier, but wasn't awful! The ambience was good with a jazz band playing. It was super super loud, but we sat close to the stage so it was to be expected. Overall, I would love to be back! In the market that it's connected to is so cute!

All were great but I especially loved the carrots which were cooked and seasoned perfectly. For my main course I had the chicken and dumplings, husband got the NY strip, our friends shared the whole fish and we had the cabbage and crab rice as sides. Everyone was very happy with both their main courses and the side dishes. Between me and hubs, we had a Pan de campo, an order of Gulf Oysters "casino", (4) dressed oysters, a 16 oz dry aged ribeye, a snapper entree and a side of crab fried rice. We finished almost everything except a quarter of the Pan, about a quarter of the rice, and about a third of the ribeye. All were great dishes and would definitely order again. We skipped dessert because honestly none stood out to us. He said their popular dessert is the souffle but they were sold out. Our total before gratuity was about $250 and that included one cocktail. Hubs had their "classic" old fashioned which he said was excellent! Overall, highly recommended if you don't mind the splurge or for a special occasion!

To start, we were lightly scolded for ordering three food items from the menu--we ordered mocktails to start--and between the two of us we don't eat large portions. If you don't think we're ordering enough food, it'd be nice to be informed that the portions are small if you're concerned about us being unsatisfied. As our plates came out, they were served with a perfunctory description of what we ordered and nothing else was said before they rushed off to be somewhere else. We don't expect to be doted on, but the overall vibe was standoffish on a quiet morning. Given they prefer full orders up front for pacing purposes, and our server was enforcing cups on coasters, we thought it was odd that our plates weren't refreshed between courses. I don't mind reusing the jam and butter covered plate to eat my polenta, but it conflicted with what the restaurant is trying to project. Overall, food was good, service was weird. The most memorable dish was the lamb tartare. I was blown away by the absence of the usual gaminess of lamb meat, which always scares me with lamb dishes. There was a bit of spice with the base sauce as well, and the charred sesame naan on the side was amazingggg. Definitely a favorite! The toasted shallots and onions on top were delicious, and the rice was a perfect chewiness. It came with a fermented chili beurre blanc sauce that paired nicely as well. It helped that the sauce came in a cute little cow container! Finally, we had to get a unique dessert to finish off the meal. We got the Parmesan cheesecake with honey and pepper - this will live in my head forever. An unexpected savory sweet combination in a crustless cheesecake, with plenty of honey drizzle and peppercorns that balanced everything out. The drink pairing was super sweet but a great balance to the dessert! I will never forget this meal. I cannot WAIT to come back to Nancy's Hustle!

It just felt warm and inviting. We were attended to by JD who guided through the menu. The service was wonderful and attentive. This is a place I will return to anytime I'm in Houston.!! He ended up being one of the best aspects of our experience that evening. Our waitress wasn't nearly as good. We started by asking for ice in the water from the waitress since they just give you room temp water. After 10 mins of seeing her serve other tables and ignoring our request, we then figured the water boy would make it happen...and sure enough he did. We then ordered the grilled oysters, which are very lightly cooked, almost seemingly steamed more than anything, but they were very good regardless of the cooking method with the sauces and garnishes and pickle juice added. Next up was ordering the entrees. The menu here is a little strange with numerous vegan choices with strange titles and only a few items with protein. To top it off, there are not many choices period. The waitress explained that the left side is basically the apps, and the right side is basically the entrees. I knew I wanted to try the wagyu flat iron steak which is priced pretty high here, compared to other wagyu flat irons I've had at other restaurants across the US. We couldn't really decide on a 2nd main dish then the waitress mentioned the off the menu special which was a scallop pasta so we picked that thinking it sounded delicious. The entrees come out about 15 mins later, and we take our first bites and we both thought, oh no, if we share the other person across from me isn't going to like this dish because it's too salty. I tried the steak first and noticed the sauce being extra salty, then I tried the pasta and the pasta was way worse, but the scallops didn't seem to be affected. We immediately told the waitress the next time she stopped by....and she just said okay, and walked away. I figured she would go get the manager....but nope...she just kept on serving other tables. At this point we thought to ourselves only the oyster app was decent.....and no reason to look at the dessert menu since we had already spent over $100 on food we could hardly eat. Sure enough, the waitress stops by a 2nd time and asks if we'd like to see the dessert menu. I couldn't leave fast enough and told her we'll skip. Needless to say we both left hungry as the portions were not only not edible, but also fairly small. The water boy also stopped by and offered to turn on the heater if we get cold. Boy, I wish he was our waiter instead. For a supposedly Michelin-starred restaurant, I feel they really got this one wrong.

Our party's arrival ran late, and they were still able to accommodate us. This was greatly appreciated. However I thought the music was a little too loud, because I could not hear my party across the table. We finally determined we were sitting right under a speaker. Prior to this a manager did ask if we were comfortable at our table, due to my mobility issues. If mobility impaired it's best to sit on the main level, especially if the restroom is needed. Otherwise, there are about 4-5 steps, to go through the kitchen. The kitchen is a huge process!!! I was impressed!Service was pretty good. They were knowledgeable, and got our orders correct. At times I felt our questions were answered a bit snippy, but it didn't persist. My party did feel a bit rushed by staff asking to pick up plates in the middle of our meal. This was a bit disruptive, because I would move plates to the edge if I want them removed. The food was really good. The cons for me is the 1% cutlery charge to help tip the kitchen staff, in addition to the 20% regular tip. They apparently do this to not raise menu prices. It's not a make or break thing, I've never seen it before nor was I made aware of it. It might be on the menu somewhere...idk. Additionally, valet parking is available for a fee. Most restaurants offer a birthday dessert, but this one did not. I would return to enjoy a few menu items like the queso, G & G Salad, and the oysters! These were really good. So for me, it really depends on what one wants to experience.

I arrived about an hour before closing, expecting it to be quiet, but at 9:00 p.m. it was still bustling with energy, laughter, and that soft glow that makes everything feel a little more special. I ordered the pork chop and swapped the carrots for broccolini. The pork chop had a beautiful char and was full of flavor--slightly undercooked, yes, but still delicious enough to carry the whole meal. I do wish they had mashed potatoes on the menu, though... it would have made it perfect. We also shared the Brussels sprouts, and sadly, they missed the mark this time. Dry and bitter, nothing like the saucy, flavorful version I've had before--maybe just the late hour catching up with the kitchen. But even so, that pork chop... it lingered in the best way. And sometimes, that's all you need.
