Came across this gem while exploring downtown Houston for the first time. It is connected to a market which at first thought seemed a little odd. Still decided to give it a chance. And I want to make it clear that it was definitely worth it. The food was delicious . I ended up back there 2 nights in a row. On night 1 I had the Austin street burger (picture 1) . The burger was cooked med-rare and cooked to perfection it was juicy and has the right amount of flavor. The burger came with za'atar fries also packed with flavor and served with Moroccan ketchup. The side condiment was spicy which enhanced both flavor profiles!! On night 2 I decided to try something different and went with the Kamtastic chicken sandwich. It comes with sweet potato fries but I opted to switch out for those za'atar fries cause I couldn't get the flavor out of my mind. The sandwich was delicious and filling. I even had room for some dessert. I went with mixing 2 flavors: Mama's Baklava paradise & the pistachio with orange blossom . The combo alone is the perfect marriage of sweetness. I wanted to end the review by shouting out the server Jorge. He waited on us during night 1. He was super friendly, and helped us choose the perfect entree. I appreciate his kindness. When we came back for night 2. He came up to us and thanked us for stopping back in. I know he probably waits on a lot of tourists but it was nice that he took the time out to remember our faces and made sure we were enjoying ourselves! My boyfriend and I went for lunch here yesterday. Parking was very confusing. When we arrived, there was no host to greet us, so we got lost in the grocery store next door. Once we got seated (we were the only people in the restaurant), They were also fixing some machine which was very loud. We ordered the hummus which was really good (not enough pita chips, but they brought more). I ordered the chicken salad and my boyfriend got the friend chicken sandwich. Both meals were a solid 2/5. First time I ordered curbside from Phoenicia MKT menu. I ordered the Roasted Half Chicken with olive-lemon sauce served with garlic mashed potatoes and grilled asparagus. At $16 there was little garlic taste to the potatoes but most importantly the chicken was RAW. I was hoping I was mistaken but the more I cut the more blood came out. Didn't even cut into the second larger piece. Ended up having a sandwich for lunch, instead of a meal I was looking forward to. We went there after the game and the rest is history.... Now, let's talk about the MktBar!! We went for the weekend brunch and will be a regular after eating the most delicious food! As you can see from the pictures, the food looks amazing and tastes the same like an orchestra in your mouth! For an "appetizer ", we ordered the sweet potato shoestring fries. It was served with a homemade ketchup and aioli! Magnificent!!! We each had a different entree. Cod and fries, chicken and waffles and black pepper waffle. First, the cod was coated lightly in a tender, golden crust with perfectly made fries. A small cup of homemade slaw for tasting was included. It was not to creamy and had the right balance of mayo and vinegar. The chicken and waffles were a perfect combination! The chicken was not dry! It was cooked to perfection and was juicy and tender! Now, the waffle was a "melt in your mouth" experience!! It was sooo tasty! One of the best waffles I have ever had! The surprise entree was the black pepper waffle! It was a waffle with a hefty portion of braised lamb shank! The BEST lamb shank I have ever had! The spices and seasoning were perfect! This will definitely be a staple for our brunch. And to top It all off, for a Sunday treat, we were entertained by the best music! The place is so welcoming and warming and you would not believe it was part of a specialty food store. When we arrived me and my cousin weren't even acknowledged nor greeted so that's strike one. Strike 2, I had the ceviche and it had octopus in it, that was interesting. The ceviche was decent , however we ordered the pizza and it tasted like nothing I've had before. I thought pizza was fool proof but somehow it was a big miss. I wouldn't recommend that to anyone. Last minute find while visiting my family. Did not disappoint even though we were hoping for more alcohol choices other than beer and wine. But even with just those options we were pleased. The wine options are extensive so many to choose from. They had a beer flight which was great for my Uncle and Cousin. Cute little spot I saw here on Yelp that was one of the few places opened. Came a quarter til 11am and we were the only ones here. The server was behind the bar and the only person working. The seating is open to wherever we liked and chose a booth. The menu was contactless via QR code and it was also limited. I chose the egg scramble with kielbasa and an iced white mocha. They have booth, low and high chairs seating. The have really good appetizers and pizza I would recommend the cheese board, ceviche, and the queso. We came here on a Sunday afternoon, the place was empty, which surprised us- but we stayed- for a bit. Ordered micheladas to start- honestly the worst michelada I have ever had! Houston has set the bar high for a good michelada, and this place did not provide. Also got the plantain chimichurri chips and the order of fries to begin, both were underwhelming. How can you mess up fries? We were so not impressed that we ended up leaving and going elsewhere. Our waiter did mention to us they were working on Re-doing their menu, so I am hoping this had to do with that and was an off day. Maybe one day we will give them another chance. This restaurant is attached to Phoenicia, which is awesome. This was my first visit and surprisingly, the Austin burger was surprisingly impressive. We were hesitant to order it since I didn't see many pictures of it but it did not disappoint. The meat was cooked in a perfect medium heat, coming out extremely juicy and tasty. The addition of the Gouda cheese in the burger made me slobber a little; I'll definitely be back for that. On the other hand, the Curry Pot Pie was pretty disappointing. I'm a big curry fan and I understand it was a mild version but it seemed to be under seasoned. However, the crust was delicious. It was made thin, allowing you to truly taste the flavor of their homemade crust without overwhelming you, and served literally fresh off the oven so be careful and let it cool off. I'm excited to see that they have a week's worth of schedule for their customers, I cannot wait to come back one Thursday to try their Steak Night! read more

After a stroll at Discovery Green, we decided to come here for a bite. It's connected to the fab Phoenicia Market. I was looking around for a host or hostess but a server just told us to sit anywhere available. Once seated, it took close to 20 minutes for someone to come and take our orders. We shared the Za'atar shoestring fries and the veggie pizza. The fries were disappointing because it didn't reflect the description on the menu. This is a great spot for brunch. There is plenty of seating, the servers are kind, parking is easy, and it is connected to Phoenicia so you can even do grocery shopping afterwards. As far as the food, I always get the chicken and waffles for weekend brunch. The chicken is very flavorful and the Moroccan spiced maple syrup definitely complements the dish. One note is that sometimes they get busy, so the dish isn't always hot by the time it gets to the table. While I always order the same thing, my friends have tried their other dishes and are always happy with whatever they order. Overall, I would recommend this spot for brunch. read more

They had live jazz music (I think) planning with people dancing and enjoying themselves and having a grand old time. The service was wonderful. Very friendly people, fast and responsive. I had the chicken and waffles and it was to die for! The portions are a little on the small side but that's also because I eat plenty . The drink menu has a lot to choose from. We liked the inventive beverages and the MKT salad, thought the za'atar-dusted shoestring fries were okay, and found the roasted half chicken tasty but overcooked. As for the MKT fish & chips, the "seasoned and lightly fried Atlantic cod" was enveloped in a thick, doughy batter which I ended up pulling off. I assumed the chickpea fries would taste like falafel. Nope, they were bland. Only the accompanying ramekin of garlic aioli rescued this entree. Upon arrival it was a little different walking in from the actual market. I didn't know how the seating was. It's kinda communal or whatever you call it l. The Burger- Austin Street Burger Fresh ground chuck with Gouda cheese, tomato, lettuce, homemade pickled pepper relish and ranch dressing on an egg bun. It was pretty good, the meat was juicy and cooked prefect. I didn't really like the sliced mini pickles that came on it. Other than that no complaints! It's possible that I might come back and try more than just a Burger. I mean Ricco our server was a cool dude and was very professional. A couple of the kids from my dance team and I ate here before a performance at discovery green, and we were all extremely happy we chose this place:) When we walked inside, we were a little unsure if we could eat there since it was a bar and some of us were under 18, but the staff was really nice and informed us we could and told us to sit wherever we liked. I ordered the grilled branzino, which was absolutely amazing. The red quinoa was really tasty, and the fish was perfectly grilled and seasoned. My friends had the 7 cheese Mac & cheese and roasted half chicken, both of which I tried, which were also amazing. The 7 cheese Mac and cheese parallels to Jus' Mac's Mac & cheese, and the roasted half chicken was a huge portion for a great price, and was perfectly done, and not undercooked or overly chewy. The zatar fries were a hit with everyone at the table, and I even went and bough zatar seasoning at HEB later in the week to make my own! I would definitely recommend this place if you're looking for a highly tasty, filling meal close to Discovery Green. read more
