I love a good, open venue space. So much beauty in one place, it's not a secret why so many book their special events here. Beautiful views of the city from all directions, a trusted & large vendor list for you to choose whatever you need, the chandeliers, the drama. There were a few gimmicks I noticed that wouldn't deter me from coming again, but definitely are notable. One elevator for over 400 guests, come on. I went to an event for LEAD here. It was Mardi Gras themed! The venue was decorated so nicely. Wait staff was IMPRESSIVE!! They kept our wine and water glasses full all night. Bar staff was very knowledgeable! My event didn't have any sweet wine, so the bartender made me a drink with a white wine and pineapple juice. Food, amazing! We had snapper on a bed of dirty rice with shrimp on top with a white sauce. It was DELICIOUS! For dessert, there was bread pudding and I'm not a bread pudding girl, but it was GOODT. Everything was hot as well, which is commendable when you're serving so many people at one time. I can't wait to come back to another event here. read more

Setup: food event, wedding The better: really gorgeous space, lighting, views, well furnished, large bar space, multi-level areas for whatever you'd like to divide up (VIP, cake cutting, Photobooth, etc.) The lesser: the shared bathroom sink (between men's and women's) can scare you to death if you are caught unawares. No real parking other than valet. Observations: Fantastic warehouse/gothic/modern venue for event hosting. I don't know the cost, so that may or may not be prohibitive. read more

My husband and I booked the Astorian for our July 2020 wedding and cannot imagine a better experience planning with the Astorian. We worked with Dani, and she was just fantastic--such a prompt communicator, totally willing to chat with our parents directly when they had questions, and super willing to work with our budget and help us think through the process. Not to mention, Dani was kind, thoughtful, and very compassionate throughout an emotional and logistics-heavy planning process. She always followed up at the right moment, and we just love her! We both felt very supported by the Astorian team and they were committed to making it the event we had envisioned. While we ultimately did not get to host our wedding at the Astorian (small backyard gathering instead), we had such a fantastic experience working with their excellent staff. This is so much more than an amazing venue. We would recommend the Astorian because of the fantastic people who were truly committed to working with us, during a year that was nothing like what any of us expected. read more

Got invited to an amazing gala at this remarkable place. The lighting was intricately set to provide an upscale mood. The space was quite large and could hold over 100 easily and still have adequate space to move about and provide elite service. The setting of the very long bar landscaped by a nice array of beverages.... the elevator with someone who escorts you up and down ... the valet ... the well structured service staff that caters an amazing plate. We had steak and chicken with cornbread and gravy. The salad with house vinaigrette and dollop of ricotta was nice begin the night. The dessert looked better than tasted. I can only review this place from the tour that I got as perspective wedding venue. I must say their staff is very on top of things. They respond to phone calls/emails very quickly. I was able to plan a tour and visit the space in a timely manner. I unfortunately, will not be able to host my wedding here, but I must say it was towards the top of my list. I love the space so much. They are still adding some additions, but I can envision it. It is by far the best space in town for 200-300 people if you like the NY style. If you're familiar with the area, this area used to be where the President's heads and David Adickes' other creations used to be. It overlooks downtown for some beautiful views. We got married at the Astorian February 2018 and have nothing but amazing things to say about our experience! The Astorian was everything my husband and I wanted in a venue - it's beautiful, unique, has a gorgeous view of the city - it's unlike any other place in Houston! Our Event Planner was Season Olds, and she was beyond wonderful! Season was organized, detailed oriented, responsive, and was simply amazing to work with! Season communicated with all of our vendors and ensured everyone was on the same page! I cannot say enough great things about Season and the team at The Astorian...they were fabulous every step of the way! For food, we used Cordua Catering and worked with Darla Hickman. Darla was a joy to work with and really made our dream come to life! We received so many compliments - the food was delicious, menu was creative, presentation was perfection! The beef tenderloin carving station, build your own avocado station, and doughnuts with bourbon milkshakes - such a huge hit! We loved working with Darla and Cordua Catering! There were a lot of moving parts, but together with Season Olds (The Astorian) Darla Hickman (Cordua Catering) Natalie Dawley (Two Be Wed) and Sheli Salazar-Medina (Flora & Eventi) we had the wedding of our dreams! My daughter and son-in-law FINALLY got to celebrate in style in March 2022, after her small backyard wedding in April 2020. The Astorian staff were wonderfully supportive during the unprecedented times. First, they rescheduled for later in 2020, but then, much to everyone's delight, my daughter became pregnant, which necessitated another postponement of the celebration. Most of the original wedding celebration was already paid for, and the Astorian continued to honor the original price quote, making the reschedule much less stressful. This venue is absolutely gorgeous and 175+ family members and friends had a blast! Even the baby got to make a short appearance!! Great views- Manhattan Loft feel in Houston. I attended a wedding during which the large elevator was mysteriously out of commission. Certain family members could NOT climb 3 floors. When I told them about it they gave some phone excuse like not disturbing the wedding ceremony. Some guy from the kitchen finally came out with the magic key and made it work for one time. Later on in the evening same story! My son had to help the priest make five painful trips down and up to move all the wedding gear, as the elevator was 'not' working again! Just not done! You don't build a loft on the 3rd floor and deny access to an elevator- Oh well! read more

The owner is very rude and denied my service animal and I access to her venue. A report has been made and the owner will receive a fine. The venue is in a bad neighborhood and is also very dirty. I would not recommend this to any one for any event. Run and do not come back!!! read more

We were set to get married and have our reception at The Astorian on June 27th, 2020. We had to cancel all of our original wedding plans due to COVID-19 complications and The Astorian has not been cooperative in refunding any of the money we had paid them. We were hopeful they would have more understanding in the midst of a global pandemic and economic crisis, but unfortunately now we are out so much money that we can no longer have even close to the wedding we originally dreamed of. This place is stunning. If I could get married again I would have my reception here or I would host any party that has a Great Gatsby theme. It is in an unassuming place, you would never guess that behind all the wharehouses, and the Target on Taylor, there is this gem of an event space that has absolutly the most gorgous evening views of Downtown Houston. It is truly beautiful. Usually places like this rely on the veiws and skimp on the decore, this was not the case here. Huge bar with beautiflu leather marbled bar top, very cool mosic design on the floor. Rustic brick walls and the lighting is perfect. It does not distract from the views of the city at all. Plenety of room here for a DJ or a band. My only negative comment is that all around the main area of the space there is is a two step level. Now normally this is not a big deal and it adds more space for aditional tables/people. However the steps are all black. Not very good for when you have ladies in heals, drinking. I know they are doing it for a decore asthetic, but when I was at an event there, i almost tripped down the stairs twice. There is valet parking, and a elevator as the space is on the second floor. If you are inclined you can take the lovely stair case up to the actual venue. read more

My best friends got married here last weekend and I cannot get over how beautiful this place was. I had seen it with the bride a few times before they got married without all the tables, flowers, band set up, etc and it still blew me away. My favorite part was the side bar area that she had set up in addition to the massive bar area. It was a private space away from everyone where guests could engage in more private, casual talk while sitting on chesterfield sofas. There was indeed a bartender a few steps away that had his own set up so that you didn't have to leave the lounge area and go to the massive bar. The lighting is romantic, dim in the right places, and beautiful for a wedding. The light fixtures on the ceiling are something else as well- you have to see it yourself, because they are pretty indescribable. The space was large enough that I was never jockeying for position over another guest or bumping into anyone. Every part of the space was able to be used uniquely and usefully for a wedding. Everything was a photo opportunity because this place is just so beautiful. It's a modern take on old New York rustic. I imagine this space could be used for anything, not just weddings- Christmas balls, work parties, galas, etc. read more

I had been searching to find the perfect wedding venue for me (unsuccessfully) for a few months before I stumbled onto this place. I literally found it on page 5 of a Google search. They didn't even have a website up; just a Facebook page with pics of the construction. I could already tell that it was exactly what I was looking for. I called the number on Facebook (on a Sunday) and Joe called me back within 30 min. We set up a time for a walk through and he let me know that it was still under construction. Before I even got one foot in the door, I turned and told my parents and fiance that this was the place! From the beautiful exposed brick bar, to the huge wall clock, to the beautiful view of the city,...it was perfect. One of my biggest issues in looking for a venue was finding one without that colorful carpet that most venues seem to have. The Astorian had beautiful stained concrete floors with mosaic tile accents. I worked with Joe at first, then Deborah, and then Alexis. All were very friendly and welcoming. They worked with my wedding planner to figure out how to do my ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception there and it all came out perfectly. They definitely contributed to my perfect day! read more

My fiancé and I held our engagement party at The Astorian this past weekend and could not have asked for a better venue for our celebration. The team: Deborah, Alexis, and Joe were awesome to work with and from day one made the process of booking a venue stress free. We never had to worry about losing our date and they were helpful during every step from our first tour to coordination during the event. The space: A truly unique venue that fits a good size of guests (we had just under 300 fit comfortably). There are views of the downtown Houston skyline from one corner of the space and windows wrapping around 3/4 main walls - we got an amazing sunset view. It was an absolute horrible experience. Don't go to this place if you're a person of color. My first time ever going to the venue and the security profiled me and told me I looked as if I was there to brake into cars. After asking the security what gives him the right to profile me that way. He told me that I arrived 10 minutes after the show started,my registration was expired on my car and that I was talking on my cell phone while sitting in my car. I responded to him by asking, why is it that I don't look like someone that's just going into the venue to enjoy my evening. He responded by saying they have been having car break-ins and I looked as if that's what I was there to do. After following me to the door constantly talking trash and more having a police officer called on me, I then addressed the issue with the young lady at the door. While having the conversation with the lady at the door, I was then addressed by another member of the security and he profiled me as well and told me I looked as if I could have been there to break in cars because I arrived at the venue ten minutes after the show started. The drinks were horrible, the stage was too dark, and the staff acted as if they aren't used to having blacks as guest in their facility. Again, like previous Yelpers mentioned..this place is very limited in parking spaces. My date had to parked in the Target parking lot across the street as there were none available. The venue is absolutely gorgeous. If you are looking to throw a once in a lifetime wedding that will impress your guests, this is it. From the second that you walk in, you can feel how special this place is. The staff is on it. They are strict, but they take care of their building and you can tell how much they love it and treat it as if it were their own house. Joe, one of the owners is so friendly and engaged. Alyssa is extremely organized and informative. I never had to ask her for a thing because she stayed on top of my wedding and all of the details that have gone in to putting it all together. She is prompt and always makes me feel like we are on the same page. She is someone who has set the bar high in my book. The Astorian is an amazing venue with great staff and spectacular views and decor. Astorian will help find vendors that they have worked with before so that everything works seemlessly on the bid day. Although the Astorian in this respect does therefore limit a little who you can you use as outside contractors, on the day the fact that all the contractors know how to work the building, work with staff etc means everything works perfectly. Plus there are a number of preapproved contractors meaning there is still plenty of choice. Would highly recommend. read more

I am planning my wedding with the Astorian right now and it could not be any better. I read a review from a previous Yelper saying that she had problems with Deborah and I could not have had a more opposite experience. Deborah was the reason that we booked immediately and worked around a possible date change. The Astorian was truly a hidden gem!! The outside doesn't do the inside justice AT ALL!! From the beautiful interior to the remarkable views of downtown, this was the perfect venue for our wedding reception. The Astorian also has both a bridal and groom suite which were both decorated very nicely, and were both large enough to accommodate the bridal party (7bridesmaids, 7 groomsmen, hair dressers, makeup artists, and family) and then some comfortably. The decor was perfectly suited for our theme and we only needed to incorporate our colors. The pictures came out amazing as a result. The staff of the Astorian were extremely friendly and very pleasant to work with. At the end of our night everyone was having soooo much fun that they allowed us to extend our stay for an extra hour. If you're considering wedding venues in Houston, the Astorian should definitely be at the top of your list! You will be very pleased, and I'm more than confident that they will far exceed your expectations as they did ours. read more
