Combo #1

Holy smokes this place is fantastic! Came here for an after work dinner with friends (it was suggested by someone who is from Houston) and it certainly didn't disappoint. The Guac and VIP queso were stellar. I had the combo which was all freshly prepared. The entire staff was welcoming and extremely attentive and friendly! Last but not least, the decor is extremely well thought out with a modern aesthetic. I will def be back when I return to Houston.

This is the wild game sampler sausage taco and tamale wild boar.

I was very excited to try a great Mexican restaurant while in Houston. This was highly recommended by our hotel. The menu is extensive and very unique. It features many wild game items, I was very surprised to see this on the menu. After reviewing the options there could only be one choice the Wild game sampler. It has boar, antelope and a taco. Like anything the meat will be a minir player in the flavor of the items. There was a tamale, taco, and sausage. The sausage was amazing some of the best Ive had very homemade. Heres where the wild boar really shines as it is fairly lean compared to farm raised. Taco was excellent as was the tamale. The tamale corn was perfect moist and heavenly. The restaurant ambience is very nice as well. Hands down one of the best Mexican places Ive visited. Prices moderately high for Mexican food but its not your avg place.

Texas Carajillo with Weber Ranch vodka.

Walked in, was greeted nicely, and taken to our table immediately. Really nice atmosphere and friendly staff. They were a bit busy because the WBC was in town, so there was a slight delay in the service at the beginning. BUT, the food was great and the Texas Carajillo was delicious!! Would definitely visit again if I'm ever in Houston!

Homemade Tres Leches

We went for lunch on a weekday and enjoyed it! The restaurant was beautifully decorated for the holidays and had a very elegant feel. We started with the complimentary chips and salsa which were good. We also ordered the queso and guacamole which were delicious. For my entree I had the Homemade Pork Tamales which are made daily in house. I LOVED THEM! They were perfect and came with rice and beans. For dessert we tried the Homemade Tres Leches (with canela, cajeta and crushed walnuts) which was good but very sweet. We also had the Homemade Sopapillas with ice cream, honey, cajeta, canela, powder sugar & walnuts. I highly recommend them! Service was good but towards the end our server disappeared for a bit. Everyone was very kind and friendly though!

Stopped in for a solo lunch at Irma's Southwest and my waiter Diego recommended the wild game combo: wild boar sausage, a wild boar tamale, and a nilgai barbacoa taco. The sausage had that rich, savory flavor you want from boar with just enough snap in the casing, while the tamale was comforting and hearty without being dry. The nilgai barbacoa taco might've been the standout--tender, juicy, and packed with flavor that felt different from your usual beef taco but still super approachable. Portions were solid for a midday meal and the plate felt like a fun way to sample a few different proteins in one go. Diego checked on me just enough and nailed the recommendation, and I'd definitely come back for the combo again and recommend it to anyone curious about trying wild game without it feeling too 'out there.

Pork Carnitas

Food was delicious. I ordered a bowl of lentil soup. It was amazing. I then ordered the carnitas plate. The flavor was excellent. They served salsa two house salsas both were tasty. When I asked for a house hot sauce a habanero salsa was brought. It was a bit spicy and delicious as well. Overall restaurant is super clean, had a great design, service was excellent.

I will say the food here was very good although a bit expensive. I dined here with my coworkers who also enjoyed their meals. We started with Houston's favorite guacamole. And it was very good with a little touch of lime. Yum. I ordered the sea bass bc I already had a lot of southwest foods. My fish was excellent. It was served with mashed potatoes and vegetables. Sangria is not on the menu but it's available. $18 for a glass and not my favorite sangria either. Oh well. Service was good but not great.

Queso + guac
Shakia C.

I came here after the Astros game and it was packed with so many fans!! We started with the queso and guac. Both were really good but the guac is made fresh to order and was probably my favorite. I had the shrimp tacos which had a little spice to it but was very flavorful. Rice comes on the side which wasn't that great but the tacos made up for it. Highly recommend this spot for those who are downtown and looking for a great spot to dine before or after a game. It offered a great casual atmosphere

Terrific place! Great food! I had their Chilean sea bass entree and I'm still dreaming about it two weeks later. Manager was super friendly and came out and talked to the customers. The bartender ( we sat at the bar) was super friendly and polite. You could tell everyone really wanted you to have a nice time up there establishment. Bathrooms were nice, location was great, food was phenomenal. They have specialty cocktails, a great menu, and wonderful service. Everyone was so nice.

Wild life combo: Antelope and wild boar. Delicious!

Happy Cinco De Mayo! Met the ladies here to celebrate, & break bread…read more Thank you Jamila for selecting this original location of the Original Ninfas, to host, (our last supper, before your relocation from Houston to Florida.). A place I grew up in as a little girl in Beaumont but never have I've visit this "original" location. Stepping in to this spot felt like a restaurant in the country of Mexico. I ordered the El Henry. I absolutely loved my dish, only thing I would've chance was the cheese enchilada definitely would've swap for a chicken or beef one, or maybe even a flaunta. I really like the Mexican rice, it had little potatoes and carrots in it. Some of the best Mexican yellow rice I've had. They offer a cinco de mayo drink special. The only thing that seem to make it special was the drinks apparently were limited edition menu items. Nothing was special about the prices. The regular menu drinks were a dollar(s) less. The margarita I ordered first was peach coconut. I didn't taste the coconut at all. I swap for the peach strawberry ($14 or 15) which was great, sweet& strong. One did me just right. You get to select up to two flavors for additional $2 (for both verse each, that's a plus. Not worded on menu). If you select a third flavor an additional $2 would be added ($4 in total) I appreciate separate tickets provided after confirmation and no additional gratuity automatically added, which he got tip equally the same or more. When asked about the "empty" patio that was available, he informed us that the entire deck was reserved. Upon departing I noticed from the parking lot individual tables, of separate parties were occupying only 3 tables. It was 8 of us sitting at 2 tables. Which the table was pushed up against the wall, and one side was inaccessible, which took away spacing. Service was lovely space was really tight. Good thing some of the ladies didn't order full meals. Definitely wouldn't have been able to fit every plate.

Ambiance: upon walking in, it was chaos and sooooo many people standing up and sitting down. Walking around with drinks. I felt like I was in a club. A server made her way to me to take my Togo order. While waiting, I grabbed a drink at the bar and just made the happy hour cut off. Service was great as I was able to get my order and it was a large order. Everything was correct. The house margarita was ok, I wish I had gotten the hibiscus flavor. Order; Crab Tostadas Mixed Fajitas Snapper Mole Enchilada Ninfa 2 Tacos Margarita Mix The only thing I would order again is the crab tostadas and the beef fajitas. The chicken had no flavor at all. The charros beans and rice were not anything special. I was not a fan of either. Overall, we are not planning to order from here again. It just wasn't what Mark Weins made it seem like on his review. Also, whoever the driver was practically could not wait for me to turn around. Sorry, I had to take a pic. Very rude.

A Cali girl-lala enjoying some Tex Mex…read more While in HTX I was able to meet up with a friend from college. He mentioned margaritas (not pictured) and food! So we met at Candente. Upon walking in the restaurant was clean it was pretty packed for a Wednesday night but the aroma of the food! OMG! Our server was really nice and patient because my friend and I talked for about 30 minutes before we finally ordered our food. He has the beef enchiladas with rice and black beans. He cleaned his plate...literally not a grain of rice in sight! I had the smoked chicken verde enchiladas and WOW! What an amazing dish. I consider myself a Mexican food connoisseur especially being from California. I have always said Tex Mex?.....eeeeyuck! But Candente has changed my tune! I will definitely be back to visit when I return!

Glowing red. Burning. Candente…read more Let me start by saying that I'm not into Mexican food unless it's an auntie or grandma making it at their house. I prefer traditional homemade Mexican food but here we are. (Oh I googled and suggested this place lol) Went in for a team lunch on a Friday. Coworker's birthday lunch and she wanted Mexican. Party of 9 and we were seated promptly. They have a lunch menu and a happy hour as well as a full menu and full bar. The interior was nicely decorated. And open. There is bar seating and patio seating as well. Our waitress was Aisha and she was amazing. Friendly, helpful and patient. And able handle our large group and a few more tables with a smile. There were a variety of options. Salads, fajitas, nachos, enchiladas, etc. Also complimentary chips and salsa. My Order: chicken tortilla soup, lunch fajitas combo - chicken and beef. Chicken tortilla soup (3.5/5) - it was a bit salty for me but I am not a salt person so most things are salty to me; everyone else said it was tasty, there were tons of shredded chicken, avocado pieces, tortilla strips Fajitas - combo (4/5) - chicken was seasoned well and the beef (medium rare) was perfection and so tender and juicy, mexican rice was fluffy, and normally I would pass on the beans and get extra rice but my coworker suggested the charro beans and wow, that was a win - the seasoning was great, there were chunks of meat and the texture was nice, the only thing that could have been done better is the flour tortillas - they over-charred them making them too crispy and left them with a burnt taste. A couple of people got the elote salad and raved about it. So that will be a next time try. Def will be back. Everyone enjoyed their meals and some even ordered food to go. Would recommend.

Parking can be challenging on weekends, but there is complimentary valet and a few extra spots in a lot across the street. There's interior and exterior seating, with cozy booths and tables. Service is friendly. Chips and salsa: Superica has some of my favorite chips, crispy and thin and perfectly fried. The avocado crema salsa and warm serrano pepper salsas are delicious with a mild kick. The bottled red salsa is fresh and green salsa packs a nice punch. Migas: Scrambled eggs with tortilla chips and cheese, choice of chicken versus chorizo on top, finished with fresh avocado. I really enjoyed this combination and the generous portion for the price. The eggs are well scrambled without being dry, and the pairing with cheese is proportional. The chicken was a touch dry, but some salsa solved that well. I enjoyed stuffing each component into a fresh tortilla and devouring it as a breakfast taco. Refried beans and rice: Really delicious. The refried beans are of the smoother variety without as much chunkiness, which I prefer, and topped with creamy cheese. I could have used a touch more tomato in the rice, but overall enjoyed the texture and flavor. Patatas with salsa roja, topped with egg: I enjoyed the flavors in this dish, but there was sooo much salsa. The potatoes were thus a little soggy, though still cooked well. The over medium egg was cooked nicely and complemented the potatoes with creamy yolk. Bacon: Really generous portion for $7 as a side, and cooked well. Crispy potatoes: I enjoy that these are fingerling potatoes smashed and roasted, but they could be crispier. They seem to be on the blander side on purpose to allow seasoning to taste, and I really like pairing them with the red bottled salsa provided at each table (probably due to their association with ketchup). Hotcakes: The literal star of every brunch, these hotcakes are consistently delicious. They're massive yet somehow cooked perfectly through so that they're fluffy and soft on the inside and just with a slight crunch on the outside. The pairing of the creamy warm (!!!) maple syrup is heavenly. Because of how huge these are, usually one is enough to share between two people, although they also come in stacks of two and three. For reference, we finished 3/4 of three between four healthy and hungry people and it wasn't for lack of trying. Whenever I crave weekend brunch, Superica is always a top option.
