We went to Johnny Rita's Cocina y Cantina on a Friday evening to check out this new spot that opened in early February 2026 in Lindale Park. Located at 5602 Fulton Street, it's the latest project from Houston hospitality veteran Christopher "Chico" Ramirez, named in tribute to his grandparents, Johnny and Rita. The restaurant blends mesquite-fired Tex-Mex with Oaxacan influences, and the interior design draws inspiration from Oaxaca with handcrafted details and warm blue accents. It's cozy with a large outdoor patio and a full bar. Parking can be a little tricky. There is some free street parking and a few spots behind the restaurant, but the back area is narrow and tight, so just be prepared. We opted to sit indoors, though the patio looked great. I brought my wife and toddler, and they had high chairs available, so it's definitely family friendly. [MARGARITAS] +Havana Nights for $15 - Mijenta blanco, lime, mango, serrano peppers, and Tajín. This was one of the best margaritas I've ever had. Perfect balance of refreshing citrus and subtle heat from the serrano. Highly recommended. - 5/5 [FAJITAS AL CARBON] +1/2 lb Combo of Beef and Chicken Fajitas for $28 - The flavor overall is good, and I loved the addition of grilled jalapeño and onion. However, the beef was tough and chewy. I think this is fixable, whether through a different cut or preparation method, but right now it holds the dish back. I also wish shredded cheese, guacamole, and sour cream were included instead of being charged separately. The value is fine, I just prefer it bundled into the fajita price. - 3.5/5 [KIDS MENU] +Kid's Taco for $7 - Choice of chicken or fajita beef, served with fries or Mexican rice and fruit cup. We chose chicken and fruit. My son loved it and ate all the chicken, tortilla, and fruit. He barely touched the fries. I tasted them and they were fine but nothing special. - 4.5/5 Overall, Johnny Rita's has real potential. The margarita alone makes it worth visiting, and the atmosphere and concept feel thoughtfully executed. While the beef needs some refinement, this is a new restaurant and I expect them to dial it in. I'm excited to have another strong Mexican restaurant in the neighborhood and look forward to coming back.

What an incredible experience. This restaurant really nails that balance of authentic Mexican flavor with an upscale vibe. Everything we ordered was fantastic. The oysters were super fresh and delicious, and the seafood tostadas were unbelievable -- the octopus was honestly the star of the night. We also had fajitas, enchiladas, and tacos, and every dish came out flavorful, fresh, and cooked perfectly. The drinks were just as good as the food -- great cocktails and beautifully made. Service was excellent from beginning to end: friendly, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. What really impressed us was the value. For a place that feels this high-end and delivers this level of flavor, the pricing felt very reasonable -- you truly get an upscale dining experience without the over-the-top price tag. You can tell this place takes pride in quality and hospitality. Definitely one of the best upscale Mexican spots we've been to, and we'll absolutely be back.

The food was outstanding! We had fajita tacos, mole, and pulpo tacos. Even though they were super busy, we received amazing service!

For drinks, we got the Situationship, Lychee Lemon Drop, Smooth Operator, and Blue Tile IPA. All the cocktails were very tasty and perfectly balanced. Food and drinks here are definitely on the pricier side for a typical Houston bar.

Cristian, our server, took such great care of us and our guests all night and made sure everything ran smoothly. Jordan, the videographer/content creator, was also capturing special moments throughout the evening, which was such a nice touch. I would 100% recommend Plume for events or a night out, and we will definitely be back!

We were able to get a reservation for the patio as the inside was completely booked up. When we arrived we were amazed at the gorgeous lights and festivity! The opening weekend was without heaters but fortunately it wasn't too cold. The servers mentioned that they were bringing in heaters in a few days. We enjoyed perusing their holiday themed menu and settled on our orders. I decided on the Carol Singer and J opted for the Coconut hot chocolate. I was happy to try these warmer drinks on a nippy day and they were both delicious! I loved the spiced warm cider taste of rage Carol Singer, though the standout of the night was the Coconut hot chocolate. The whipped cream was perfect for giving the hot chocolate Christmas feel while still getting a kick from the rum and amaretto mix. Our servers were attentive and very accommodating. They did inform us of another party coming in to the same table 2 hours after our reservation which was very reasonable and we appreciated the heads up. I've also had the chance to stop by outside the Christmas season and was blown away by the tasty drinks and reasonable prices. I will certainly be back here next year for the 2026 Miracle at Johnny's!

First, the vibe. It is warm, stylish, and very Montrose in the best way. It feels elevated but still relaxed enough to just sit, talk, and enjoy your time without feeling rushed. We came during happy hour and it was such a great deal. I ordered the Sweet Like Peach Tree, which was light, refreshing, and perfectly balanced with the peach and ginger. My husband got the Frozen Paloma and it was just as good, super smooth with the right citrus bite. We also shared the churros and they were honestly a must order. Warm, crispy, and paired with Nutella and caramel. What really made the experience stand out though was our bartender, Manny. He was incredibly welcoming from the moment we sat down, had such a great personality, and made the whole experience feel personal. You can tell he genuinely enjoys what he does, and that kind of service is hard to find. He also told us about their upcoming two year anniversary party on May 3rd with rotating live DJs, which sounds like it will be such a fun time. We will definitely be back. Between the drinks, the atmosphere, and the service, this place really gets it right.

They have bingo nights, dj nights, and other themed events that keep the place packed out. Maybe once I try the burgers, it'll be 5 stars, but the smallll parking lot and lack of safe street parking keep me at 4.
