This used to be my favorite local bar until recently. The security guard has some sort power trip with the customers. I"ve been a victim multiple times and seen him mistreat others several times. He seems to love harassing customers. He is the reason I went from going to monkeys on a weekly basis to not at all. Its been months since my last visit and again I got mistreated today. Ive complained to the staff and the management and nothing changes. Today was my last visit. read more

Came by when they had the $5 per pound crawfish deal and it was definitely worth it. They offer optional add-ons if you want to add to your boil. They offer the classic Cajun flavor and a house special jalapeño version. The jalapeño took me by surprise. It is definitely different but in a good way. It has a solid kick and the flavor really grows on you. Just be ready for the heat. As for drinks the chile mangonada was delicious. Sweet spicy and refreshing. My sister is obsessed with the picka-piña and comes here just for that. Great spot if you're craving spicy crawfish and fun drinks. Will definitely be back. read more

Amazing drinks ! i absolutely loved all of these tequila based drinks. All of them have great flavor and presented very beautifully. My favorite was the banana colada . I really enjoyed the chicken tacos and the burger was very yummy . I love a good juicy burger and this just hit the spot. I did a little sampling of everything and would definitely come back. Came to Monkey Tail and just missed their Happy Hour. We decided to stay since the other bar spot was a bust. What we ordered: Batanga - El Tesoro reposado & Mexican coke, lime and salt. Manzanita Bonita - Chango house apple soda, wodka vodka, massenez pomme vert liqueur. The Batanga was tasty, and I enjoyed it, you can't go wrong with tequila and Mexican coke. Monkey's Tail is a great neighborhood bar in Lindale Park that serves craft cocktails. It reminds me of White Rhino (R.I.P.) in that they offer awesome drinks in a laid back setting. I tried to go with a few friends one night last year, but ended up leaving because of the heavy security presence. It was giving sketchy night club and not laid back neighborhood watering hole. Going during the day was definitely different. There was plenty of parking in their lot and there weren't any security guards with metal detectors. The bar is family friendly until 8 pm and the patio is dog friendly. Julie, the bartender was super nice! She was great about explaining the drinks and even gave us samples of some of their frozen drinks (Mangonada and The Northside). I had the Pepino Sour and the Basil Sandia Gimlet. Both drinks were so good and strong, but I of course loved the Pepino (duh)! My friend also ordered a Basil Sandia Gimlet, but he added Tajin to the rim which I wish I would have done. I didn't order any food but my friend had a cheeseburger and said it was pretty good. They have HH specials during the week and steak night on Mondays. I have been here multiple times during crawfish season and on a regular. The crawfish are great and reasonable priced. The hamburger is great as well. Can't believe I haven't rated this place yet. It's been a favorite for the last 2yrs. They make some of the best mezcal margaritas, but I typically visit them THE MOST during crawfish season. It's family friendly during the day with inside seating and two outdoor patios, but the kiddos have to leave around 6:30/7. If you like to wear gloves with your crawfish - they give the good ones . If they don't have live music they'll have music playing, but not too loud where you can't hold a conversation. The bar staff is pretty good at getting the drinks out. You can't go wrong with any of them. The food is also delicious. There are your typical menu items like burgers and fries (both delicious!) along wings and tacos. This place is counter service only. You order food and drink at the counter and then grab your seats. There are two great patios- one overlooking Fulton and a great back patio. These will be great once the weather cools off a bit. Get the double, you'll need it because the patties are small (they're handmade home pressed so should be smaller). The drinks are AMAZING!
