Brought my friend in who was visiting from Phoenix and we tried the new tasting menu. We got a few extra things and Chef Adrian changed my friend's opinion of mushrooms. Everything he does is magic! Geoff is also the best of the best. He remembers what I've had and haven't had and his service is second to none. Everything is exceptional and more importantly it's consistently exceptional.

Another great time had at Maximo. I would say the service this time wasn't as sharp as my previous visits but that didn't take away from my overall experience. We decided to do the tasting menu again and have 0 regrets although you may want to order one or two additional things as the portions are small. What's so fun about Maximo is that they not only change up the dishes every season but also improve upon some of the old ones. I remember not loving the texture and density of the masa cornbread during our first visit. This time, it was smaller but also softer and more balanced. The sauce was devoured. The tasting menu is a fun flavor journey although it seems like they aren't always able to accommodate dietary restrictions. We ordered the pork belly tacos and Tlacoyo De Cangrejo along side our tasting and I'm very glad I did. The Tlacoyo felt like elevated street food. Lots of crab and the fried cheese added a wonderful flavor and texture component without being too overwhelming. The pork belly was also a hit. It was also very odd for me because 99% of the time I do not like fat on my meat at all to the point it makes me gag but this literally melted in my mouth. Freaked me out a bit. I've had meat described that way but this is the first time I actually experienced it. Maximo is truly one of the few places that deserves all the hype.

Absolutely get the dinner tasting menu if you get the chance! Updating my previous review because I was not very impressed with their weekend brunch menu, but the dinner tasting menu had very beautiful and high quality dishes. The blue fin tuna tostada was my favorite of the 5 courses, followed closely by dessert, but nothing disappointed. Service has always been great (even when the brunch menu didn't wow me previously)

My friend took me to Maximo while I was in town. I was really impressed with their tasting menu! The quality and price point is unbelievable. Most places it's double the price. Everything we were served was fantastic. My favorite branzino, so soft, flaky and well seasoned. It honestly gave me so much joy just eating the branzino. The guacamole was really good, different with all the add on. The most surprising thing for me was the mushroom quesadillas. I'm not a huge fan of mushrooms but I actually enjoyed this quesadilla. Maximo has a new pastry chef, the desserts were nicely done. The tres leches is a must to try. Honestly everything on the menu is a hit. Shout to our waiter Jeff, thank you for the hospitality! I'll definitely be back.

Decided to come here on a whim looking for a family friendly place, with parking, that was different than any of the usual Mexican restaurants around. Maximo hit all the checkboxes. We went for brunch - the restaurants - while overall small, there is also some outside seating available. Parking is only on the street, but in this area there is ample around the corners too. We were quickly seated and the host provided some great options. We ordered the tuna tiradito, steak and eggs, chilaquiles divorciados, and dulce de leche cinnamon roll. The tuna appetizer was great! The steak and eggs were the best I've had in a while, tender meat and did not skimp on portion -- the egg and potatoes and sauces complement well. The chilaquiles had a good kick, meat was tender. The only thing we thought could've been better was the Cinnamon roll. The outside layer was good, but the inside layer seemed tougher to eat. The hibiscus tea was excellent! The service was excellent! Family friendly establishment. Will be back!

A neighborhood gem! Had the $45 tasting menu. Exceptional value for the quality of food. Had just enough where I was appropriately satisfied although I almost pushed it to try their tacos. Highlight was the starter - Bluefin Tostado. Easily the best bite of the night. Not much to the masa cornbread. Not something I'd order if I returned. The table next to me had the steak and it looked amazing. I'd return to check out more of the menu.

Came with a friend from out of town. Available Reservation was for 9pm onwards so we gambled on walk-in at 6pm. We had to wait 2 hours for a table which was fine because we drove to nearby Simone on Sunset for a drink. The restaurant is small and very busy. The server had good recommendations and brought us a complimentary appetizer. Value at Maximo is high and I'd return!

Maximo is a charming gem of a restaurant with quirky decor. We usually sit at the bar where the bartender is friendly and shares recommendations (which we like). I'm almost a vegetarian and there is plenty for me to enjoy! My very favorite dish is the roasted potatoes with aioli! My husband loves their Mezcal Margarita with Taijin.

We went for our anniversary dinner series part 1, had a FANTASTIC time! We got there a little early and hung out, sat at the bar. Nicc at the bar was amazing, he helped us navigate the menu and the drinks menu. We booked a reservation which is highly recommended. We both did the tasting menu, and we also ordered more off the regular menu as well. Chef Adrian and staff were all synced and working in harmony. Keep in mind the tasting menu could also change. TASTING MENU Bluefin toasta, avocado, chili crisp, chapulines Enchilas positina, queso de cincho, crema casera Masa cornbread, chicatana butter, caviar Duck, mole negro, arroz mexicano Bunelo, vanilla custard, banana ice cream there is a note that says full table participation required, which is fine by me, because I can do two of those tasting menus for just myself hehe. Chef came by to check in, manager came by to check in as well, our whole experience was a vibe. interior is modern and beautiful interior, the place is buzzing with regulars that live in the area and also people who want to come try. we did street parking, but there is limited parking and valet as well. outdoor seating available with temperate control. Whoops almost forgot to talk about the food bc I was too busy talking about the ambiance. The food was very good, creative, thoughtful, and intentional. if you would ask me my favorite and least favorite, all I could say is there are no least favorites. take your time to taste each bite, and don't get drunk beforehand because you can definitely taste notes, like nuttiness, spices, that we don't normally eat daily in an all American diet. loved my experience and excited to come back!

This continues to be one of the best restaurants in town. Any time we find out someone hasn't been we make a reservation and take them there and so far it has not disappointed anyone. My personal favorite dishes are the mushroom tostada and tuna but I also love the tetela and chicken Milanese and basically literally everything on the menu. We sat on the front patio instead of inside for the first time over the weekend and it was super charming!

I came on a Saturday night before a concert. I was excited to try the 5 course tasting menu. It included an eclectic sampling of familiar dishes with a twist. The duck and the cornbread were the standouts. I'd definitely return for full portions of those. The dessert was not or favorite. We were in a bit of a hurry and the server accommodated us well. The restaurant is small and intimate but didn't feel chokey. They also have patio seating. The bathroom is clean and well maintained. There is street parking which was easy for me to get but I think may be difficult during busy times

WOW!!! It's been a while since I've been blown away by food AND service at a Houston restaurant. The ambiance is great, service wonderful, and food fantastic! I'm already planning my return to do the tasting menu. Everything we ordered was delicious and we got very lucky getting a table without a reservation. Brianna's service was A+++ Looking forward to heading back soon!

We tried Maximo recently and honestly had such a great experience. Wagyu carne asada: Absolutely divine. Hands down the star of the night and one of those dishes where you take a bite and your eyes literally widen because it's so good. Juicy, flavorful, perfectly cooked. If you try one thing here, let it be this. Guacamole: The guacamole itself was really tasty, fresh, well seasoned, and super creamy. My only critique is the chips. They were pretty hard and took away from how good the guacamole was. Brisket taco and fish taco: Both were solid and flavorful, but nothing particularly standout. We still enjoyed them, just not as memorable as the wagyu. Hearts of palm and fig salad: Tasty but a bit heavy on the dressing. The balsamic flavor was stronger than I prefer. We still ate everything that hit the table. No leftovers whatsoever. There's a lot more on the menu we didn't get to try yet, so we'll definitely be back. The margarita I had was really well made with a great balance of alcohol and flavor. Super refreshing. Overall, delicious food, great vibes, and absolutely worth a visit. I would come back just for that wagyu alone.

    Must have margarita.

This spot is VERY busy on weekend nights - so much so that it might be up to a 30-40 minute wait. They don't do reservations, so you add your name to the waitlist when you arrive and they'll give you a time estimate. On slightly less busy nights you can take a seat at the bar as you wait, or relax outside as they have a small garden area. More likely however, you may find yourself walking around the complex as there's a Kroger nearby. Once your table is ready, you stop by the host's station who will lead you to your table. We've enjoyed the booth seating the most but they have many options. If you have a large party I would definitely call ahead - we had a graduation lunch here once and they were very accommodating. The servers have always been fantastic - very kind and they check in on you frequently. We find the Platos Especiales to be very filling and have usually split one of those amongst the two of us. The Tex Mex dinner is one of our favorites. Last weekend we opted for the Tacos Al Carbon with beef which were fantastic. We've also tried the fajitas here which are absolutely delicious as well. The meat is always well seasoned and tender. They give you complimentary chips and salsa - the green is one of our faves and we will snack on it throughout the night. The margs are also delicious and are a go-to. I hear they have a happy hour with reduced marg prices which sounds like a steal, but we've only been here after happy hour timings. Definitely check this place out. Great for date night, girls night, family night - you name it. There's always a birthday or two being celebrated on a weekend night. It's just so festive, colorful, and fun!

For entrees, we tried the enchilada rojas, chilaquiles verde w/ chicken and beef, birria barbacoa ramen, and huaraches. Ordered queso, guacamole and fajitas with flour and corn tortillas, quesadillas and a side of grilled veggies. Fairly straightforward for a Mexican restaurant. So, then we waited and waited and waited. Eventually got a few glasses of water, some plates and some silverware. Not enough for the entire party. I guess they were washing the plates and cutlery. The chips and salsa and queso came out with the guacamole. Still waiting for plates for a few in our group. Don't worry they told us. We will bring out more plates and silverware with the fajitas. Then the quesadillas and fajitas came out with the beans and rice, but no tortillas. No flour tortillas. No corn tortillas. And no extra plates. Still washing dishes?? So we kept waiting as we ate in shifts. Like being on call. But we were just a large family seated together at a round table. Eventually, they brought us more silverware so we weren't eating with spoons and they brought out large plates. Like oversized entree plates for our fajitas. We ordered fajitas to go, but there was so much food on the table that we asked for to go boxes. Once. Twice. Three times. Went to the hostess and even to the manager. Still they refused to bring me boxes to take the food to go. My family got impatient, so we finally left. So much food waste. Would have been good for lunch the next day. We LOVE the Original Pappasito's on Richmond and Hillcroft. There is a difference. Worth it to drive not to deal with this lack of customer service. So surprised.
