I would definitely recommend making a reservation, as it can get pretty busy, especially during Saturday lunch. There is also plenty of parking available across the street. The interior of the restaurant was beautiful and felt so authentic to Mexican culture. Our server, Kylah, was incredibly knowledgeable about the menu and so kind throughout our entire dining experience. Now onto the food; everything was absolutely delicious. The Avocado Mollete and Chilaquiles Divorciados were both packed with so much flavor. Every bite was amazing. I had heard that the pancakes were the star of the show, and they definitely lived up to the hype. I have never had pancakes this crispy before, and they were so good! Delicious upscale Mexican food with a thoughtfully curated menu. We sat in the climate controlled patio out front, and it was lovely. It truly felt like an extension of the restaurant. Service was remarkable and very friendly from the host to the cleaning staff. Food was delicious. I really appreciated the creative flavors that were inspired by authentic Mexican cuisine. Standouts were the guacamole and wagyu carne asada, but everything was fantastic. I loved the Clara cocktail and enjoyed learning about the process to create it. It is clear that there was care and attention behind each menu item. Also, the pace of the food being brought out was evenly paced, which I appreciate, and our server gave us just the right amount of attentiveness. Went for Sunday brunch with a reservation and were seated almost immediately on the patio. It's temperature-controlled, which is a huge plus in Houston, and it's still super cute. We ordered the breakfast burrito and the duck carnitas. We added barbacoa to the burrito, and it was honestly the definition of comfort food. It was EXTREMELY greasy though, so I ended up eating it with a fork and knife. If I had been home alone... I probably would've just shoved the whole thing in my mouth. I couldn't not order the duck carnitas. It came on a sope, which is basically my definition of the perfect Mexican brunch. It was really yummy, and I especially loved the salsa that came with it. Unfortunately, our experience fell well below expectations. Upon arrival, the hostess was unfriendly and dismissive. We were simply told to "sit on the bench and wait" with no effort made to make us feel welcome or comfortable while waiting for our table. When making the reservation, we specifically requested either a quiet table or seating at the bar. Despite this, we were seated at a small table between two particularly noisy groups. On one side was a family with three young children playing a loud game involving frequent shouting and slapping on the table. There was intermittent drumming which the parents were oblivious to. On the other side was a large group facing us engaged in very loud ongoing conversation. The result was an atmosphere that made it difficult to enjoy the meal. Service was also inconsistent. Our server offered chips to accompany the Tiradito but she never brought them. Overall, the evening was disappointing. Excellent food and service. I went with my family of 5 and ate half the brunch menu between us all. For appetizers we had the pork belly, tiradito and oysters. Each one was excellent. Came to Maximo on a weekday around 5:30 and it was pretty quiet at first, but by the time we finished dinner the place had filled up a lot. It's definitely a smaller, cute neighborhood spot with a really fun vibe. The service was good. Our server was funny, attentive, and made the experience fun. We started with the "corn ribs" appetizer and WOW. Probably one of my favorite corn dishes I've had in a long time. So flavorful and addictive. We also got the "Tiradito de Hamachi" crudo, which was fresh and delicious! For the entree, my friend and I shared the tacos (which comes with your choice of 3). We added an extra taco to make it 4. I was genuinely shocked that the mushroom taco ended up being my favorite because I almost always prefer meat, but it was THAT good. The fried shrimp taco was also amazing. For dessert, we got the tres leches cake. I'm usually not a huge fan of strawberry or fruit toppings on desserts, but the cake itself was really, really good. I ended up just removing the strawberries and eating the cake, which was moist and flavorful. The only downside for me was the drinks. They looked larger than they actually were because of the glassware, and they tasted a little watered down. I had two, and they just weren't very strong or super flavorful. A beautiful experience! I was so into the experience that I didn't take pics, but my book club met her for brunch. First, our service was impeccable. He was personable, remembered things we had mentioned, and was an expert on guiding us on recs from the menu. The food itself was a "no skips" experience - each dish was flavorful, elevated from a traditional dish. I got the mole chicken quiche, which was light and airy and super flavorful. We shared the guacamole and potatas bravas - both were different than anything I had tried before. My cocktail was smoky and light. My husband's cousin raved about having dinner here the week prior so we decided to try out the Sunday brunch. My husband and I were somewhat skeptical at first based off of the photos. This is not our typical Mexican food. The plates looked a lot smaller online, but I am so glad we tried it because it was delicious!! To start we had a few drinks: 1. Flor de Fuego - it tasted like agua de jamaica with a splash of citrus, in my opinion it was very refreshing 9/10 2. Frozen Margarita - my husband's cousin ordered this in a yeti tumbler, he said the margarita was really good except it was a bit hard to drink since it was frozen the whole time lol 8.5/10 ***tumbler was an additional cost. It is a 16oz yeti. They do offer $10 refills anytime you bring the cup back 3. My husband drank a pacifico. Classic beer. They offered it in both bottle and in glass. 9/10. 4. Carafe mango mimosa - this served about 4 drinks total. It was very champagne forward with the tiniest amount of juice 7.5/10 APPETIZERS: 1. Housemade Bacon w/ Salsa Ranchera - in my opinion this was DELICIOUS. The salsa on this was amazinggg. This dish also comes with a side of authentic flour tortillas. 10/10 2. Tiradito de Hamachi - meh, it was good but wouldn't order again. It literally just tasted like strawberries with a salty aftertaste. Another great time had at Maximo. I would say the service this time wasn't as sharp as my previous visits but that didn't take away from my overall experience. We decided to do the tasting menu again and have 0 regrets although you may want to order one or two additional things as the portions are small. What's so fun about Maximo is that they not only change up the dishes every season but also improve upon some of the old ones. I remember not loving the texture and density of the masa cornbread during our first visit. This time, it was smaller but also softer and more balanced. The sauce was devoured. The tasting menu is a fun flavor journey although it seems like they aren't always able to accommodate dietary restrictions. We ordered the pork belly tacos and Tlacoyo De Cangrejo along side our tasting and I'm very glad I did. The Tlacoyo felt like elevated street food. Lots of crab and the fried cheese added a wonderful flavor and texture component without being too overwhelming. The pork belly was also a hit. It was also very odd for me because 99% of the time I do not like fat on my meat at all to the point it makes me gag but this literally melted in my mouth. Freaked me out a bit. An excellent dining experience. We had such a lovely dinner at Maximo on a rainy Friday night. Despite the weather, parking was easy with a small lot and plenty of street parking. The restaurant has an intimate indoor space and adjacent covered patio. Both were already full when we arrived which created a lively atmosphere. The inside was so tasteful - small but moody and warm! I'd definitely recommend a reservation for the weekends! We started with the aguachile de camaron as a starter and WOW my husband cannot stop talking about this dish. The perfect blend of textures and flavors - this will be a must for us every visit. We have had our eyes on the 5-course Chef Tasting Menu for $49 + the optional beverage pairing for $30. The experience felt more than fair for the price, especially by Houston standards. Each course felt thoughtful and slightly boundary-pushing, yet really approachable. My partner and I have been on a bit of a mole kick recently, so were very excited for the hanger steak with truffle mole. It absolutely delivered and would love to order this again! We were also heavily drawn to the tuna tartare starter, masa cornbread, and tres leches. The wine and drink parings were perfect and not too fruity. The brut rose was a perfect way to start and I always love a mezcal cocktail. I highly recommend anyone visiting to start with this Tasting Menu and leave the stress in the hands of Chef Adrian Torres! We had the pleasure of chatting with him briefly after our meal and were so impressed with his story and clear excitement he brings. Decided to come here on a whim looking for a family friendly place, with parking, that was different than any of the usual Mexican restaurants around. Maximo hit all the checkboxes. We went for brunch - the restaurants - while overall small, there is also some outside seating available. Parking is only on the street, but in this area there is ample around the corners too. We were quickly seated and the host provided some great options. We ordered the tuna tiradito, steak and eggs, chilaquiles divorciados, and dulce de leche cinnamon roll. The tuna appetizer was great! The steak and eggs were the best I've had in a while, tender meat and did not skimp on portion -- the egg and potatoes and sauces complement well. The chilaquiles had a good kick, meat was tender. The only thing we thought could've been better was the Cinnamon roll. The outside layer was good, but the inside layer seemed tougher to eat. The hibiscus tea was excellent! Service This might be the only thing better than the great food. The folks here recently won their 1st Michelin award and it shows. Ambiance Like a lot of new places in Houston the vibe is hip and fun. I was surprised how intimate it was but it seems to be a consisten theme in the upper layer of the Local Food Group restaurants. Believe it. It's true. This tasting menu is seriously the best value in town, and the wine/cocktail pairing is an absolute must. Our culinary journey started with tuna two ways, and this first bite was actually my favorite of the entire meal. The flavors were impossibly punchy with well-balanced savory notes that were perfectly highlighted by the accompanying bubbly pairing. 5 courses in all, and all of it was delicious. Another highlight was the steak course and the heavenly chocolate dessert course, which was expertly paired with their take on an espresso martini. Chef's kiss! We tried Maximo recently and honestly had such a great experience. Wagyu carne asada: Absolutely divine. Hands down the star of the night and one of those dishes where you take a bite and your eyes literally widen because it's so good. Juicy, flavorful, perfectly cooked. If you try one thing here, let it be this. Guacamole: The guacamole itself was really tasty, fresh, well seasoned, and super creamy. My only critique is the chips. They were pretty hard and took away from how good the guacamole was. Brisket taco and fish taco: Both were solid and flavorful, but nothing particularly standout. We still enjoyed them, just not as memorable as the wagyu. Hearts of palm and fig salad: Tasty but a bit heavy on the dressing. The balsamic flavor was stronger than I prefer. We still ate everything that hit the table. No leftovers whatsoever. There's a lot more on the menu we didn't get to try yet, so we'll definitely be back. The margarita I had was really well made with a great balance of alcohol and flavor. Super refreshing. Overall, delicious food, great vibes, and absolutely worth a visit. Everything we were served was fantastic. My favorite branzino, so soft, flaky and well seasoned. It honestly gave me so much joy just eating the branzino. The margarita wasn't too sweet, tasted like fresh lime, and was a nice size! The drink menu has a lot of variety, so I'll have to come back to try other things. Bluefin tostada was delicious, the chapulines on top was a fun surprise! The enchilada was more like a crispy quesadilla, but it was perfectly crunchy and cheesy. The masa cornbread was very unique, have never had cornbread like that, and the caviar added a nice salty bite. The duck in mole sauce was my favorite- duck was tender and flavorful, and the sauce was such a perfect pairing, plus the crispy rice added wonderful texture. Had a pleasant dinner at Maximo with my boyfriend! The service was top notch, from when we were greeted at the door to the server that took care of us all night. He was very informative, gladly answered all our questions and made great recommendations. The ambiance was intimate and well decorated, which is great for a date night. All the food we had was great and we definitely want to return here. Highly recommend making a reservation on OpenTable, especially if you want to secure indoor dining. Parking was fairly easy for us. There are parking spots right in front of the restaurant, but street parking available nearby if all spots are taken. Hamachi crudo - always a huge fan of hamachi crudo and Maximo made it their own with the peach ponzu and pickled peaches. The Asian in me just wished I had chopsticks to eat this better. Would definitely recommend giving this a try. Shrimp flauta - this flauta is huge ! This was tasty with how it was dressed with all the toppings, but just wished there was a little more shrimp inside. Duck carnitas huarache - this was honestly my favorite. The duck was just seasoned and cooked to perfection. Topped with chicharrones, which gave it a nice crunch. Texas red fish and chochoyotes - the chili lemon glaze is what made this dish tasty. It had huazontles, which is known as Aztec broccoli! Quite a vegetable to eat with this fish. Tres leches - the topping is based on their seasonal fruit. It is currently peach. This dessert was not too sweet, not overly moist from the three milks. Our server told us his favorite dessert is the chamoyada, which is a mango soft serve with chamoy and tajin candy. I've been here 3 times since December. Twice for brunch and once for dinner. Always great food. Always great service. It's really just a neighborhood eatery (not my neighborhood, but that is the feel of the place). You can dress up for a night out, or go as you are. Highly recommend! read more

I've now visited Maximo twice since they did the re-vamp of the menu (and I think chef maybe?), and it is still so great, even better than it was before. Both times recently, we ordered the chef's tasting menu (which is pretty reasonably priced for $45/person for a few courses), and it was great, all things I would have wanted to order off of the menu, in smaller portions. The service was very nice, and the restaurant has good, casual vibes. Both the inside and the temp-controlled outdoor patio are nice. I really would love for Maximo to open for weekday lunch, that would be so nice. (They're only open for lunch on the weekends now.) read more

Had reservations for date night and wow Maximo exceeded my expectations with the food but most importantly the service. Everyone that worked there seemed so happy and passionate to be there and it warmed my heart. It was packed so you definitely need reservations! My absolute fav thing were the oysters... if you're thinking about getting them just do it! I was told that the inspiration and flavors comes from Oaxaca and now I have to add that to my places to visit! The manager was sooo nice and introduced himself to us. I will definitely come by again and give the brunch a try. 10/10 read more

The staff were genuinely warm and welcoming from start to finish. Our waiter walked us through the brunch menu and pointed out the vegetarian-friendly options, which I really appreciated. We shared the guacamole, chilaquiles divorciados with mushrooms, and a couple of maxi martinis - everything was fresh, flavorful, and really well done. They also brought out a tres leches dessert for my sister's birthday that was so good. You can tell there's a lot of care behind both the food and the hospitality here. I visited here on a Tuesday weeknight thinking we didn't need a reservation. The interior was small and we had to eat outside in the summer heat due to lack of tables. Highly recommend making a reservation. There were parking spots available in the area nearby including at the park across the street, but I imagine it may difficult to find a spot on weekends. The menu is on the shorter end with a few vegetarian options. I tried the mushroom taco, guacamole, and squash blossom tetela and tiramasu for dessert. Everything was delicious and had a unique spin. The mushroom taco was crispy and flavored. Squash blossom tetela was a triangle shaped masa pocket filled with a delicious filling. The guacamole was also unique with a tasty dressing on top. The tiramasu was moist and had a peach jam on top. The portion sizes were small too and I could have had more food but left satisifed and not hungry. read more

Perfect spot for a mid-week date night ! Parking: There are spots across the street in front of the restaurant. We had no issues parking. It was free . Vibe: The space was designed amazingly !! They used the space so well - it was both stylish and cozy. There was seating outside on the patio. We opted to sit inside but as the night went on I regretted it a bit. The table we sat at was too close to the ones next to it, so we could hear everyone's conversations and servers would have a hard time squeezing between . Service: The staff was so friendly ! Our server was able to give us some great recommendations and stopped us from over ordering since we wanted to try everything on the menu Food: The food was good but not 100% my flavor palette. The guacamole and the mushroom tacos stood out to me. They were amazing ! The octopus taco was ok and the ceviche was fine too. I personally was not a fan of the cornbread though I know it's very popular... it was pretty but the cornbread itself was too dry for my taste The queso was life changing - I don't generally like queso but this might single-handedly change my mind !
