We finally came back for dinner to give it another chance. We brought our dog to sit out on the patio (dog friendly!) on a quiet Tuesday. Unfortunately the service is still pretty bad. The restaurant clearly didn't have that many patrons since it was Tuesday, but there was still so much confusion of who was going to serve us. It took them forever to come out a bring us menus and water. And then the bartender ended up coming out to take our order - he was really nice, but clearly knew nothing about the menu. Food itself was decent - Hamachi tiradito - 3/5 - extra thin slices of fish and it was a bit more sweet than we wanted Bluefin tostada - 5/5 - best thing we had! Sopes de pulpo, tacos de maitake, tacos de pescado - all 4/5, decent. Sopes were probably most unique, but octopus was more chewy than I wanted. Cacao dessert - we were told the chef is known for his chocolate desserts, so we had to get this. But it was a 2/5 for us. Felt like 4 separate dishes that didn't go together, and we wished we walked over to the ice cream place instead. Biggest downside is the service - 2 out of 2 poor experiences for an elevated restaurant is a bummer. I would not be surprised if this place goes the way of the many other prior restaurants in Autry Park.
Update: I came back and it was a true culinary experience! Every dish, every bite, every sip is a journey of flavors. We came to celebrate my friend's birthday, and we had one of the most truly amazing diner experiences. Our server Adam was so knowledgeable, he knows the menu and every dish like the palm of his hand, and that made our diner experience so delightful. This time we ordered "family style", several plates and we shared. The chef sent a palate cleanser, mini empanadas with flor de calabaza, the masa tasted like Mexico Sope de Pulpo (Octopus sope) and Tostada de Atún (Tuna tostada) were our appetizers and we enjoyed every bite, the Sope de Pulpo was my favorite For diner we got the Carne Asada for 2 and Cochinita Pibil, I was hesitant about the last one because my mom makes a mean Cochinita Pibil, but the Chef didn't disappoint it felt like home! Our drinks were so good, I ordered again Metstli (mezcal drink), I love it. When you come, you have the option of park yourself at the parking garage for a very small fee or use the valet ($8). Don't forget, reservation is a must! This is a high end restaurant and dressing appropriate is appreciated. Good food, good drinks, good service! My husband picked this spot out for us for date night. We were assigned a table upstairs, which was so cozy and fun. There were so many little aesthetic elements that I appreciated; including the textured floral walls and confessional-style screens to separate the booths. It is a new addition to Autry Park, which means you either need to valet or pay for garage parking and walk (but it is just around the corner from the garage). The vibes of the space are really fun, with open concept hot and cold kitchen spaces that you walk by on the way to your table. Our servers and waiter were very knowledgeable about both the restaurant and the food, and were able to steer us in the right direction with ordering. They ask that you place your entire order at once, and then they course it out for you. We had the hamachi starter and beef carnitas croquettes, the Tacos Mar y Tierra, the barbacoa and sweet potato main, and the cacao dessert. Everything was delicious, and it was hard to pick a favorite, but the croquettes might have been the winner. Be careful though, they have some spice to them! They have a fun cocktail list that we really enjoyed as well. Another spicy favorite was the Xochitl. Very flavorful and fun! Would definitely recommend this spot.
Mayahuel - Lunch $8 valet parking. The ocelotl cocktail was very good. An old fashioned with mezcal as its base. Awesome big single cube of crystal clear ice. A thickened tortilla soup, thickened with? Onions? Masa? Cornstarch/flour? Probably masa. Good flavor. Nothing overwhelming or one note. Perfectly accepable. For my personal taste, I would not order it again as just too thick a gravy for my personal preference. But that's just me. Nothing wrong with it. Guacamole was good. Well prepared. I'd probably remove the cilantro microgreens next time before eating it. Good, thicker totopos. Small serving for the price. They could consider doubling the portion size, consider it as a loss leader, to get diners talking about it. Since typically it is one of the first things that is brought to the table.. Quesadillas get an "acceptable" rating. Within the spectrum of quesadillas recipes but I would have enjoyed, personal taste, less greasy tortillitas. Lovely presentation. Noisy sound system. Restaurants don't really need to blast music. It interferes with conversations. Just adds overall noise level. IMHO. Not sure how loud they keep it when restaurant is full. Chicken milanesa was good. On a bed of black beans with verdolaga on top. Nice crunch. Nice seasonings. Enjoyable. Chicken breast is correct for milanesa. I personally am not a fan of dark meat, but many people feel that a boneless skinless chicken thigh is juicier and more tender (as opposed to the chicken breast that was used for this milanesa). So if the restaurant gets responses from others about the chicken breast being dry, they might consider switching to the juiceier boneless and skinless chicken thigh for this entrée. Tried the flan. Can skip the flan; try a different dessert instead. Small portion. Some sort of burned something topping it. I'm glad that I came today. An opportunity to try a place that was really off my radar because of cost. (No need to come back right away until I've tried more untried restaurants in Houston in 2026. In other words, good but no "I can't wait to dine here again" moments.) Just too many places on my list to try. Really nice staff. So friendly. They really contributed to the lunch experience. Update. Late evening/next day. Doggie bagged the quesadillas and chicken to take home. Did not hold up after refrigeration. Quesadillas couldn't be brought back to edible and were tossed in trash. Chicken chopped and chicken salad made.
A wonderful new addition to Autry Park. I had my doubts coming in but the meal dispelled all of them. We had a number of appetizers and tacos - all of them delicious. My favorites were the bluefin tuna tostada, beef carnitas croquette, mushroom tacos, and the pork belly tacos. I docked one star because the main course we ordered - the carne asada - was the weakest one. It was dry and flavor was lacking - a bit disappointing after the prior courses. Service was great and the restaurant ambiance was very nice - classy and quiet. We will be back.
Wow wow. I was reticent heading into our Friday night reservation because I had heard mixed reviews both from friends and the internet, but we absolutely loved our whole experience at Mayahuel. It had been on my to do list for a minute because we were in Mexico City in January and loved the food. Upon arrival we were taken straight to our table in view of the open kitchen. The restaurant itself is sleek modern and, if I'm being picky, just a *little* too bright inside. It also smelled amazing. Our waiter was friendly and helpful with recommendations throughout the evening and I felt like he checked in on us an appropriate amount without being overbearing. After placing and receiving our cocktail order, we placed our whole dinner order in one go which he said he would make sure was coursed out, and it was paced beautifully. To start we ordered the mushroom tacos, hamachi Aguachile and pork belly tacos. I often feel like pork belly leans too fatty but I loved this dish. The mole and the beans were a perfect balance to the pork. For dinner we shared the carne asada, cochinita and roast chicken. Everything was really delicious but I think the consensus on favorite dish was the cochinita. Though the roasted onion puree that came with the carne asada was also dynamite. For dessert we ordered the cacao which I intended to abstain from because it had mango, and I unfortunately have a mango allergy but when the chef brought the dessert to the table he brought me a side dessert sans mango. It was completely unnecessary and so nice/thoughtful. We have only been here once so I can't speak to consistency but we had such a great dinner that we will absolutely be back.
Mayahuel is a really pretty spot with lots of seating options: inside, upstairs, the bar, and a nice patio. The open kitchen concept is also a cool touch. We came in for Saturday brunch, and overall the food was good. I had the green chilaquiles with wagyu steak, which I really enjoyed. The drinks, however, weren't my favorite. The peach bellini was a bit too strong for my taste. One downside was that the dish we originally ordered was already sold out, which was disappointing. It feels a little off that they still take reservations until close if they know they might run out of menu items. On the plus side, they do validate parking for $5, which is super convenient. All in all, it's a beautiful restaurant with solid food, but I'd love to see a little more consistency with the drinks and menu availability.
I came for the Valentine's Day pre-fix menu and I must say the meal was a 10/10, a true culinary delight. The service was impeccable from the time we walked in and throughout our dining. The restaurant is decorated nicely with an open kitchen concept. I will definitely be back to try more menu items.
We checked out Mayahuel right at opening (5pm). Valet wasn't running yet, but parking in the garage for $5 was a breeze. Kicked things off with some cocktails, guac, croquette, and oysters. The guac was super fresh, and the oysters set the tone perfectly. Then came the shrimp and beef cheek tacos (came with 2) and the carne asada. Let me just say, the carne asada stole the show. Juicy, tender, full of flavor... I'd come back just for that alone. Oh and they have serve fresh corn tortillas that are just perfection that elevated the tacos! Dessert was a bit of a mixed bag. The vanilla dish came with ice cream and caviar on the side (unexpected perfect combination) and a rum cake with pineapple and cream. The ice cream + caviar combo was a winner, but the cake didn't hit the same high note. Service was friendly and attentive, food came out quick, and overall the vibes were great. If you go, don't skip the carne asada, it's worth it!
New spot in autry park!!! Modern Mexican restaurant, our waiter was Adam. He did great at explaining what all they had to offer on their menu. He also helped make me a different mocktail which was not on the menu. We did the beef carnitas croquettes, oysters and caviar and tacos mar y Tierra. Tacos were amazing with a huge shrimp on them!! The flavors were everything and more. The oysters and caviar were more of a sand which feel- if you like caviar you would love this. This place is quiet and great for girls night, date night or family dinner. The menu is short but perfect from the chef Luis Richard's. We shall be back. Garage parking or valet!
Dinner at Mayahuel was another flavorful culinary journey with foodie friends. Aesthetically, the restaurant is tastefully decked out with modern exotic statement pieces, and the soaring ceilings lend to a museum vibe. My only qualm here is the lack of natural light. But it was a beautiful space, nonetheless. We all enjoyed the cocktails, and the four appetizers we tried delivered on unique textures and flavors. We agreed on a favorite bite: they called it a quesadilla, but it was so much more than that. The shell was delicate with a crisp exterior and a soft dreamy center that burst with comforting savoriness, reflecting complex simplicity. We tried three different tacos, along with the pork shoulder entree. Basically, everything our server recommended, we ordered. Speaking of our server, she was outstanding! The way she described each selection demonstrated a true knowledge and love of every dish. She made everything sound amazing, so instead of choosing one or the other, we tried it all. The desserts are definitely shareable and interesting, offering two expressions of the main ingredient. While we enjoyed trying each iteration, we agreed the desserts were mot as impressive as the appetizers.
I came for HH but plan to return for brunch & dinner service. I loved my tacos. The tortilla and meat was melt in your mouth. My drink was refreshing as well. Customer service was attentive.
Dined here for our anniversary, and I don't think we were totally aware they'd only been open for 7 months. We had a great experience: servers were attentive, food came out as it was ready, and they very kindly provided us with a signed card celebrating our anniversary as well as a complimentary dessert. We sat facing the kitchen and enjoyed watching them prepare food for everyone. As we tend to prefer trying more things on the menu than fewer, we mainly ordered from the starters side. Everything was delicious: the Avocado & Sikil P'aak, Croquetas de Short Rib, Tacos Mar y Tierra, and the Flautas. While good, our least favorite were the Quesadillas. Just a tad too on the fried side which overwhelmed the flavor of the adobo chicken tinga. For dessert, we ordered the Cacao selection. Cacao lime ice cream is excellent! At the end of our meal, the Chef/owner came out to speak with us about our experience and asked for feedback. He seems quite nice and we hope he's able to make this restaurant a successful venture. We'll certainly be back for more.

Mayahuel restaurant is led by Chef Luis Robledo Richards, who uses bold flavors to express Mexico City. The food and presentation feature modern twists while staying rooted in Mexican flavors. The restaurant is located in Autry Park, next to Annam, a Vietnamese restaurant. There are three parking options: paid street parking, paid garage parking (with two garages), and valet parking. Once you enter the restaurant, the hostess stand is immediately to the right. You will notice the open kitchen, with plenty of seating throughout the restaurant. The space features dark brown hues, creating a warm and intimate atmosphere. FOOD: 1. Potato Croquetas (4/5): This was a complimentary appetizer from the kitchen. It was the perfect all-in-one bite and a great teaser for the night. 2. Avocado and Sikil Paak (3/5: Pumpkin seed and habanero dip, avocado, cucumber, and sesame): This is definitely an interesting dip, as it leans toward a hummus-like appetizer. Neither the habanero nor the spice is particularly noticeable, as the pumpkin seed flavor overpowers the dish. However, it becomes refreshing once mixed with the avocado and cucumber. 3. Tacos de Rib Eye (5/5: Seared rib eye, salsa verde, and avocado): This was perfection. It reminded me of the Michelin-starred tacos in Mexico City. One slice of rib eye with a perfect salsa ratio. I did remove some of the fried potato pieces because they took away from the taco. 4. Carnitas (4/5: Confit pork, refried beans, creamy green salsa, escabeche, and nixtamal tortillas): The tortillas, ingredients, and pork were delicious. The pork was not too fatty and was cooked well. 5. Short Rib Barbacoa (4/5: Braised short rib, sweet potato, and cooking reduction): I was hoping this would be traditional barbacoa, but it is more like a short rib prepared in the style of barbacoa. It was great but became rather heavy later on. All of the ingredients meshed well together. 6. Flan (4/5): This was a complimentary dessert for a celebration. It paired well with the ice cream and cookie crumbles. The service was awesome. Our server took his time explaining the restaurant and the menu. He did not rush us and refilled our drinks appropriately. Would I come back? Absolutely. Its happy hour runs Monday through Friday from 3-6 PM. read more
This place is cuttte! Located in Autry park with complementary valet. My friends and I stopped by this place for drinks and appetizers! Our waiter greeted us promptly and was very friendly and helpful. I ordered the mayah which is a play on a Moscow mule and my other friend ordered the tonalli which is that girl! We ordered the tradifional guacamole and chips and the sourdough & butter as our appetizers and the guacamole tasted amazing. The presentation of the chips was cute but they gave stale... now that orange butter that came with the bread. Phenomenal! One demerit for that random mixed bev charge...what is that? And why... All and all a cute place to grab a bev and a bite. I dont know about a full course meal. read more

Dined here for our anniversary, and I don't think we were totally aware they'd only been open for 7 months. We had a great experience: servers were attentive, food came out as it was ready, and they very kindly provided us with a signed card celebrating our anniversary as well as a complimentary dessert. We sat facing the kitchen and enjoyed watching them prepare food for everyone. As we tend to prefer trying more things on the menu than fewer, we mainly ordered from the starters side. Everything was delicious: the Avocado & Sikil P'aak, Croquetas de Short Rib, Tacos Mar y Tierra, and the Flautas. While good, our least favorite were the Quesadillas. Just a tad too on the fried side which overwhelmed the flavor of the adobo chicken tinga. For dessert, we ordered the Cacao selection. Cacao lime ice cream is excellent! At the end of our meal, the Chef/owner came out to speak with us about our experience and asked for feedback. He seems quite nice and we hope he's able to make this restaurant a successful venture. A hidden gem just south of Buffalo Bayou! Artfully decorated with an open kitchen concept and soft dim lighting and tasteful industrial modern accents, Mayahuel's ambience, food, and service were nothing short of spectacular. Our dinner started with elote compliments of the chef which tastefully highlighted the freshness of the corn rather than over sweeting like many elote dishes. Our mains - the Short Rib Barbacoa and the Cochinita were cooked to perfection and incredibly flavored. The blue corn masa tortillas that came with the Cochinita were to die for, strong yet supple and melt-in-your-mouth tender, we couldn't stop eating them!! We ended with the Cacao dessert, a tribute to chocolate and a multisensory experience. It held a smorgasbord of textures from the velvety chocolate ice cream to the satisfying crunch of the layers of chocolate and the saltiness of the caramel grounding the earthiness of the chocolate. The only note of improvement we had was our cocktails took about 15-20 minutes to come out with a near empty restaurant, they were delicious though! We will be back! read more

I'm staying in Houston for the next couple weeks and Mayahuel was the very first restaurant I tried in the city since arriving this week. Very charming interior, I was especially pleased with the lighting in the bathrooms! We were able to get a table in less than 10 minutes while waiting at the bar. Looked over their cocktail menu and I always appreciate a good selection of house recipes. I opted for a mocktail and my date tried a Malbec from their wine list to start. Our server was excellent and prompt! We started with the carnitas croquettes (Amazing, for the record. We even ordered a second batch.) I'm already thinking of my next visit for those alone. While I'm not much of a seafood fan, we also tried the hamachi. Trying to broaden my palate! It wasn't bad at all as far as fish goes. If you like seafood more than me then I'm sure you'd really enjoy it, it was very fresh. For our mains, we shared the pork belly tacos and then the filet mignon with mole. Both extremely delicious. Wow, everything about this place! The interior is outstanding and perfectly cohesive with the brand's concept -- every detail feels carefully crafted. The menu is short but full of personality, with a story behind every dish and drink. We were celebrating our anniversary, so we treated ourselves to quite a few things: the beef croquettes were just okay in our opinion, but the tlacoyo with nopales was AMAZING, the carne asada was out of this world, and the cacao dessert was incredible. And the drinks? Outstanding. I had a cilantro-tequila cocktail that was super creative, while my husband tried a mezcal paloma and an Aperol-based drink he loved. Every sip was unique and interesting. Even the tortillas melted in your mouth. Special shout-out to our waitress -- one of the kindest, most attentive, and professional servers we've had in a long time! Of course, it's not cheap -- our bill was a little over $300 for two. Definitely more of a special-occasion spot, though brunch prices looked more reasonable, so we'll be back to try that. Oh, and I have my own personal bartending test: how solid they make a French 75. The restaurant is really pretty! Our server was really attentive and personable. The pastries were really good. The chilaquiles were very m soggy. I was watching the chef take piping hot salsa and letting the chips sit for minutes. Same with the enchiladas dish. Texturally neither were great but the salsa was good. It could use a little seasoning. The drink was okay. I would love for a bit expanded of a menu. read more

Had the best girls' night here! The whole experience was so thoughtful from beginning to end. The space is absolutely BEAUTIFUL! Sleek, modern, and warm all at once. I valeted for $8, which was super easy and made arriving stress-free. Loved the convenience of the digital communication for the valet. The dining room is stunning, and I loved being able to see into the open kitchen!! Watching the team work felt almost like a live performance. As someone who's a little particular about food safety, I really appreciated how transparent and spotless that felt! The open bar setup is also gorgeous. LOVE that back wall. I'd honestly love to come back just to sit there for a drink. Service was exceptional. Every staff member we interacted with was SO warm, attentive, and genuinely enthusiastic about the menu. They asked about allergies right away and helped guide us through the best choices. We started with the pan y tortillas and the bluefin tuna tostada. The pan came with three salsas, all beautifully balanced and packed with flavor. I could've happily made a meal of just that! The tuna tostada was bright, fresh, and elegantly plated. We were all super impressed with the presentation on that plate! Everything tastes super fresh. Like I could pick up the avocado, the cilantro, the citrus, and the cucumbers! For my main dish, the carne asada was to die for. Perfectly cooked and every aspect of the dish came together in a way that complemented each flavor wonderfully. We ended with a coffee dessert that was bold and rich! The cocktails were also excellent! Overall, everything from the ambiance to the food and drinks to the service was on point! We had a wonderful and unique time at this new, beautiful restaurant. The decor was like eye candy, as was the food and drinks! From appetizers to entrees, each dish was amazing, and beautifully presented. The staff is highly skilled, and knowledgeable, and we never went a second, unnoticed. I was a little anxious about going into a new place, however I could not have had a better time. Plan on staying awhile and soaking up a really great experience! Don't forget the dessert either, I sure didn't. Did I mention they have a world famous chocolatier as well? read more

This is my very first restaurant review and I never do this but as someone well traveled, well-versed in food, and born and raised in Mexico City, I left deeply disappointed. If the chef is being marketed as a Mexican chef, it's far from the truth. His background is in French pastries and French cuisine, and it shows. He has clearly never cooked in a real Mexican kitchen. He would be better off learning outside the Mexican market than presenting himself this way. Frankly, it's shameful. The food was underwhelming to put it mildly. The cochinita pibil was so bland we had to ask for limes and everything needed salt. The tlacoyo was mushy, the black beans had no flavor, and none of it resembled true Mexican cuisine. Overpriced, over-styled, and missing the basics. Service was equally poor. Our server (Rafael D) dismissed us the moment he realized we weren't ordering alcohol (we're on antibiotics). It was also my birthday, and despite being noted in advance, they brought a random dessert, not offering us a choice and no candle, while the table next to us got a full celebration with sparkly candles less than a minute after we got ours. The place is beautiful- I give them that. Bottom line: Not authentic, not welcoming, and not worth the hype. Save your money. read more

I loved the decor and ambience of the restaurant. The food was amazing! We loved all the items we tried, the tuna tostada, fish, filet and fajitas were all delicious. The beef was cooked perfectly. Can't wait to go back!!! read more
