We had a 70th & 60th birthday celebration at Ambriza's Vintage, and we were very impressed and satisfied with how beautiful and perfect everything turned out. Rodrigo & Araceli were amazing, ensuring everything was going smoothly and according to plan. Our servers Augusto and Christian, were very attentive, kind, and on point with our food and drinks. Food was exquisite and portions were generous, cooked to perfection. The churros with chocolate and the complimentary photos for the birthday girls was the cherry on top. I love coming to the vintage location and Towne lake. Each of them are always amazing, it just depends on who I'm meeting is where I go. Today I tried the Acapulco Tostada, they were everything that I was craving for ceviche, even though I ate them with the regular chips that come with the salsa. Next time I might just ask for no tostada chips. The service is always amazing and the ambience is always satisfying for what I look for when I go out. Let's begin our adventure and start with this fantastic review. The front door hostess greeted me with a warm smile. Shadowed me to a table and I was offered chips and salsa. Both red and green. Our waiter was training another young lady who was 3 weeks in. She did a fabulous job. My party of three was offered elote, a wellness shot with ginger, a cucumber cocktail with tajin rim. Let's keep going, we ordered shrimp enchiladas, seafood empanadas and the bowl with shrimp, rice, lettuce, tomatoes and charro beans with chicken. All fabulous and full of flavor. We were very pleased and full. Then the owner offered us a beautiful, warm, cinnamon churros with the three different toppings. The ambiance, the customer service, the cleanliness and attention to details. Lastly the bathroom carries mouthwash, hand lotion, dental flosses and hand soap for a refreshing cleanup and it's beautiful and clean inside. Ignore whatever I wrote years ago. Ambriza was fairly new then. Now... We eat as there as often as we can. My extended family never leaves disappointed. In fact, the most coveted birthday or Holiday present among us is an Ambriza gift card. I also appreciate the staff and manager for listening to my feedback without eye-rolling. Example? I wanted to try the Enchiladas Rojas, but asked them to add a red onion garnish. So glad I did! Explained to our server how that addition really lifted the heaviness of the dish. She understood and agreed to pass that along to the kitchen. Ask for the same sort of easy tweak, and maybe it will impact a future entree. read more

Went here for the first time with a friend last weekend, & we both very much enjoyed it! We had a reservation, and we were seated very quickly. We were asked if this was our first time visiting, which it was. The waiter started off by explaining to us that this was an authentic Mexican restaurant and not Tex-Mex. Since authentic Mexican food is my fav, I was already excited. The entire time from start to finish, the service was absolutely impeccable. A manager came over to our table at least twice to ask us how we are doing. The waiter explained dishes to us in detail when we asked. And the food was delish!! We love Ambriza's! The speciality Margaritas are a must! I love the Cucumber Serrano but all are delicious. We have loved all menu items. We have been coming for years and love trying something new each time, along with ordering our favorites over and over. The service is great. The indoor and outdoor seating offers a good variety when the the weather is nice. We prefer to sit outside because inside gets so loud, we feel like we have to yell to hear each other. Used to come here for happy hour and brunch/lunch. Was surprised to see it wasn't as packed as it used to be until our experience today... We started off by ordering starters and when it was dropped off, the waitress was no where to be found. Usually they would take our main order once starters are dropped off or shortly after.. honestly service as a whole was extremely slow. Couldn't flag her down when trying to get the check. She cleared the table and just left for a while. We were told the juice was fresh squeezed. It tasted very bitter and 100% did not taste like fresh squeezed OJ. Tasted more like Tropicana... We were asked if we wanted to substitute it with fruit. Alright sure. Fruit never came and had to remind them at the very end. Fruit was dropped off with no utensil. Nice. (They had removed all our plates/silverware from our main entrees already). Food quality/taste is definitely not what it used to be. The fish tacos used to be good here. Not sure what they did, but it is not good anymore. Coleslaw was bland. Rice was bland. Asked for spicy sauce for quesadillas. Didn't know we would be charged $2 for a teeny tiny thing of sauce. Ridiculous. Not even good sauce by the way. Also keep in mind they charge a surcharge to use credit card as payment. Also was not aware. Safe to say, we will not be back. There are much better restaurants in the area and I can see why this place is not as busy anymore. Such a shame. read more

It was a Saturday night and very crowded but we were about to sit inside within 15 minutes of waiting. Our waiter, Cesar, was excellent from beginning to end. He explained what Amriza was about since it was our first time. I came here with my wife. We ordered the seafood empanadas. These were very delicious, and they had a nice mix of shrimp and scallops. The empanada was also very crispy. This has a great flavor. The beef empanadas were good too but I liked the seafood empanada better. For the entrees, we ordered the short rib, mestizo rice, and the taco barbocoa dinner. The short rib mestizo rice was very tender, flavorful, and cooked perfectly. This is a must-try. The Barbocoa tacos were also delicious, and the meat was very tender and perfectly seasoned. Cesar was excellent, and Nicole, a manager, came by and ensured we got to try the street corn and introduced herself to us. Kudos to them. I came here a second time recently and the service was still high. This time I brought my twins for their birthday. Vanessa took care of us as our waitress. Her service was excellent throughout our dinner service. This time I tried the molotes de plátano, but those weren't, because I didn't like how the texture and flavor came together for me they're fried balls of plantain stuff with chorizo. It wasn't crispy and I couldn't taste much of the chorizo flavor. My kids got kids' meals chicken quesadillas, which came with fries, an apple slice, and a churro. It was a lot of food for the price. I got the taqueso pork pastor, these were okay but the flavor is different than the traditional pastor tacos. I didn't like it enough to get it again. However I enjoyed both of my experiences here and can't wait to eat here again! read more

Ambriza is definitely all the things FUN and vibrant!!! Beautifully decorated with fun vibrant colors. All the staff welcome you with smiles and are so friendly. As soon as they found out we had birthdays they brought out birthday shots for the birthday girls and they ended our dinner with churro carts and a birthday song. Such an awesome experience! If it's your first time cooking they offer a pastry and hot chocolate that were delightful! If you have purses they give you a purse hanger which came in handy. They provide complimentary chips and salsa. We started out with street corn (requested it off the cob) and roasted cauliflower which were a perfect starter packed with lots of flavor. The margarita was strong and had a great balance of flavors. Not too sour but also not too sweet, just like I like it but that sucker hit me later so I know they're not skimping on the alcohol. This is not the place it once was. The appetizer (soup) wasn't brought out as an appetizer/starter. We saw a tray of 3 corn cobs (street corn) go out and back, tried again and went back; came back out again and went back. We laughed because the server was trying not to give up. It was apparent it was either misordered or someone wasn't claiming it. However a few seconds later our server came out with a plate with one Cobb and said because t was my friend's first time here he was receiving a treat as a first timer. it was a nice gesture but we were sitting there already disappointed with our mango margaritas that were way too sweet to enjoy (and very little mango), and our server had already misjudged the two of us: I ordered fish tacos since it was a Friday during lent but bc my friend also then ordered fish tacos, for some reason the server assumed my friend was wanting a non meat meal and when our food was brought out he said mine had black beans bc there was pork in it and my friend had refried black beans that was meatless. My friend could have cared less - he just wanted to try the fish tacos and I'm the practicing catholic lol. So, my friend ate the corn while I sat waiting for my soup. The entrees came out and my soup with it. Thank goodness the server comped my soup since I dint eat it (1: it was supposed to have been a cup not the bowl, and 2: that was the worst cream of poblano soup I've ever had). Unfortunately, things did not get better with our fish tacos. The aïoli mayo was so strong. It was all you could taste, and the fish had almost no taste whatsoever. The flour tortillas were so thick we ended up not eating them and trying to just eat the inside because the tortillas were just so thick - and we both were surprised that they were flower tortillas not corn tortillas like most fish tacos are served on. I will say that my black beans would have been good. Have they not been filled with so much salt but otherwise they still had potential. Our server was attentive and pleasant, but there were just too many things that didn't go well between the drinks, the appetizers, the comments and choice la he selected for our beans, etc. I used to race about this place a few years back. But I also have to say the place used to be packed on Friday evenings and it wasn't - so perhaps I'm not the only one who noticed it isn't as good as it used to be. I'd say if you've never been, and you don't know where else to eat, give it a try - but be prepared for expensive food that is just ok. I'll give it some time before I recommend it to anyone if my friends and family - just won't take that chance for a while, and maybe it will improve to being as good as it used to be. read more

I was in the Houston area for work and a colleague suggested Ambriza for happy hour. They brought out homemade chips and two dipping sauces. To drink, I went with "Talk Whiskey to Me", which is Woodford Reserve Bourbon, Ancho Reyes Chile liqueur, lime juice, pineapple syrup and angostura bitters. I followed up with the cucumber serrano margarita, which is cool and refreshing upfront and follows with a bit of heat. As an entree, I went with the fajita mix which comes with beef, chicken, shrimp and ribs. It was served in a molcajete. The staff were very friendly. They recommended the cucumber serrano margarita. The restaurant is a good size. They have high tops and a bar that are offered happy hour specials. If I'm ever in the Houston area again and in the mood for Mexican, I'd give them another try. read more

I was visiting family in Houston and we wanted to have a nice brunch/lunch. I searched on Yelp and this place got great reviews. We arrived on a sunday at about noon and it was busy. We got a drink at the bar while we waited for a table to open up. We waited about 10 minutes. When we sat down we ordered some drinks. Their margaritas are excellent. I ordered the juevos rancheros and my wife got the steak and eggs. Both dishes were awesome. The steak was so tender and had a fantastic flavor to it. My juevos rancheros were really good as well. Since it was our first time here they brought out fresh conchas with a hot chocolate table side cart. It was such a nice gesture and delicious! The service here is really good and the food is fantastic. I liked the music they were playing and the entire vibe of the place is fun. We will definetly be back here or to one of the other locations next time we are in Houston. read more

Ohhh, Ambriza. I really wanted to like you. I really, really, did. I've been wanting to try this place out since it opened. And I have been invited a few times to go try this place, and was excited to, but always had something going on and was never got to go to it. I especially liked that they had a rack for purses and gift bags to hang onto. It's the little things, you know? And so when I was trying to find a place to take a friend for her birthday lunch, I decided this would be a great place to go to because of it's fun atmosphere and because she is such a big fan of chips and salsa. Little did i know, these things would be it's downfall. I feel like if you are going to be a restaurant like this serving Tex-Mex or Mexican or what have you, you need to have great salsa and great queso. I am not exaggerating when I say that the salsa tastes exactly like tomato sauce that comes in spaghettios. I actually didn't end up tasting the queso. Everyone at the table who did, commented how it had a weird texture and it reminded them of cottage cheese and scrambled eggs. I don't like when people review things that they didn't actually taste, but I think that I can get a pass here because of the texture of it. I had the seafood enchiladas, and it was just fine-- nothing exciting, nothing that I would really want to return back to--especially since we have a few great Tex-Mex places around the area. The green sauce was the same as the one they give with chips and you can't change out sauces or mix and match with the enchiladas, if you like that option. The Mexican rice wasn't all too great, kind of dry, but the beans were actually pretty good. The server was pretty good, and I actually tipped well despite the food, because of the fact that he brought out the picture frame for my friend's birthday and churros with cream and they sang happy birthday to her. I would come here again for the birthday experience but probably not otherwise. It's one of those places you go to only for the experience and not the food. read more

This used to be one of my favorite restaurants. Not after last night. We had a reservation for Mother's Day dinner at 7. Arrived 10 min early. Had to wait a few minutes for them to figure out where to put us. They sit us right by the kitchen where there's a pole in between our chairs. Since restaurant was surprisingly empty I asked to get a different table, specially since it was my dad and brother's first time. Well you would think I was asking something out of the ordinary. Then they give us a table almost joining this huge party where there a curtain literally right on the chair (wish I had a picture). When I requested one of the open nicer/ more room tables I was told they were "reserved" for 8 pm ( an hour after ours). I reminded her we also had a reservation. Needless to say I was done at that point and just wanted to leave. It was very clear they couldn't care less about us. Rest of the party wanted to stay so sat by the kitchen. they brought us chips, looked like they took broken left overs and put in our basket. Others around didn't look like that . The waiter was the only one that was nice but unfortunately it was too late. We had drinks , appetizers and left. Went to another mexican restaurant where they took wonderful care of us with a huge smile. Best decision. I attached pictures of all the seats we couldn't take and how our left over chips came.
