Craving pho, I stopped at MISC for a recharge "me" lunch between apartment viewings. My silly move was to consult a Yelp menu photo without checking the photo date! The menu has changed, and MISC now only offers beef broth pho with either chicken or beef meat. My server was super understanding when I realized my mistake, and I quickly settled on the tofu shoyu ramen. The best part of the ramen was the broth, but its umami didn't penetrate the excellently-textured fried tofu. The thin egg noodles had, and retained, a nice chew, but perhaps this resilience also kept the noodles from absorbing any flavor from the broth. I left full if not wowed. I lived near Thailand and have made countless trips to Bangkok. I love the people, the culture, the food. I got food from MISC delivered so I can only rate the food. I really, really wanted to like it, and I know this is a "fusion" restaurant, but it was just disappointing. Lemongrass soup is perhaps supposed to be similar to tomyum soup. It was so sour that I could not drink it. It tasted as sour as apple cider vinegar. The shrimps were fresh and of good size though. The druken noodle (pad keemao) was plain and spicy. I could only taste hotness and bell pepper with burnt flavor of the wok. First couple of bites were nice but I could not eat much more. The spicy basil sauce with chicken tasted much better than the two above, but the sauce was the same consistency as the soup. And there were a lot of sauce/soup. My friend ordered The Classic Fried Rice with Fried Tofu and the fresh Strawberry Lemonade. The ambiance was really nice at night and we thoroughly enjoyed our experience there. I looked for lunch specials and didn't see any. I then asked the host did they have a lunch menu. He handed me one. Well, now I'm looking at him like why didn't you give me this along with the regular menu? Now I'm not too pleased. Anywho, the lunch special comes with salad and soup. I ordered the Pad Thai noodles with shrimp, which was yummy. While eating, a guest entered and they did the same thing! I saw him looking around for other menus. I then whispered to him, They have a lunch menu. He then asked the host to cancel his order because he would now want to see the lunch menu. Now, I'm like I don't like this place. Their practices are shady. When I paid the bill, I was sure to let the host/waiter know that what he did was in poor taste. He apologized but I didn't buy it. Decided to come in as I was walking by and the food looked good. Since you can pick your protein for many of the dishes, they are very accommodating to vegetarian/vegan diets. I got the Penang curry with tofu and vegetables and the flavors were amazing. The warm coconut based curry with the many spices kept me warm on a really cold winter Saturday night. Service was also really friendly and my cup of water was always being refilled as I was drinking it (stay hydrated). GRANDPA'S SECRET Chicken broth with roasted pork blew my mind...it sounds hearty/risky. However, it was a perfect melody of 2 very rich meats in tango with the back accented flavors of scallion & cilantro. Egg noodles were soft and chewy. I usually dine at this restaurant on Wednesday night and they have the most delightful, warm waitstaff, but when I had dinner on a Thursday night in the third week of July, there was a waitress working in the indoor dining space who practically scoffed when I simply asked her to heat up my lukewarm sake, gave me my leftovers without a bag, and generally had a snarky, dismissive attitude. I've been to this restaurant multiple times the food is good but I have had three negative customer service issues with them. Today I placed a order online and they did not deliver aIl items . I call again they answered and ask me how I want it resolved and I ask for the item to be delivered they took my name address and phone number and two hours have passed. Oh, MISC. I've lost count of how many times I've dined here. At least monthly, but maybe pushing weekly. MISC is one of the best spots on Franklin and is always a go-to for me when I have people in town who don't want to head all the way to the city for a meal. MISC will surely satisfy any palette - I personally love all of the ramen options and the khao soi, but I've recently made it a point to always try something new. Their drinks (particularly their wonderful happy hour) is perfect to pair with dinner or even for a quick drink on its own. I was in the neighborhood and decided to stop in for a quick snack. My niece had been raving about how good the food was so, I decided to check it out. I ordered the Vietnamese Spring rolls and pork buns. After placing my order I asked how long it would be and was told about 15 minutes. No problem. It was 8:37 pm. My plan was to take an Uber and be home in 5 minutes. Although It is freezing outside, I could do 15 minutes. 20 minutes later, I was still waiting. My daughter went in to ask if we could wait inside. She was told no. She explained to me when she ordered from Misc previously, she was allowed to wait inside in the corner. I understand what restaurants are going through, and didn't mind waiting as long as the food was tasty and well prepared. After waiting a few additional minutes, I went back in to inquire. The waiter who took my order seemed annoyed and said it would be several minutes longer. About five minutes later, the food was brought out to me. I thanked the employee, but he did not respond. Within five minutes I was home. I opened the bag to find a disgusting cold mess that went straight into the garbage. After waiting nearly 30 minutes for appetizers, I would have expected to find more than some anemic, cold, miniature spring rolls and buns that were thrown together. I usually lean away from sweet entries (but do give me all the desserts!), however, the soup was complicated and interesting enough that I couldn't get enough! Before coming here, I didn't appreciate silken tofu. I ordered the drunken noodle with tofu, asked for it fried and they gave me un-fried--and boy was it good! Spicy is the perfect amount of spice; releases some endorphins, but not so much that you're sweating to death. Happy hour deal is pretty sweet. I wanted to be different and try something new for appetizers. My go too is always crispy calamari or spring rolls. I had the duck roti wrap. The stem of lettuce was left on ; which made biting into roti wrap difficult. Duck roti wrap wasn't my favorite and I wouldn't order again. The crispy chicken dumplings were so delicious. My friend shared the Franklin wings were good but too sweet. I couldn't try the rock shrimp due to allergy; but my friend shared they were delicious. For entree I ordered the wings and rice; although the dish was delicious it was missing vegetables and poorly plated. My friend had basil fried rice ; and wasn't disappointed. My other friend had grilled pork, shared food was freshly prepared and delicious . However presentation was poor , please stop chopping the stem of lettuce and adding it to the plate like it's decor. It's alright, but one thing I wasn't expecting (and that I think you should know before ordering) was just how sweet both of these dishes are.
