Shrimp bun appetizer. I could eat more than one of these.

Chuko is another place that I can't believe I never reviewed. For a good while, Chuko was my fave, eat-in, ramen restaurant in Brooklyn. It's cute and cozy even when there's a crowd. When I'm there, I pull up to the bar and order hot, delicious ramen with a cold can of ginger ale. It's been so long since my last visit-like yearrrs. It's currently freezing outside. I could really go for a steaming, hot bowl of spicy Miso ramen with a pork bun right now!

Wanted to love this place but had several issues with my order. I got the miso ramen and was given the wrong protein but the server was accommodating and brought out another plate of the protein I wanted right away. However it was just so salty that it was almost inedible, also the broth wasn't as hot as I would've liked it, it was more lukewarm which was disappointing on a cold day. Extra chili oil that I ordered was also cold so didn't add much of it. Service was excellent and the noodles were cooked perfectly on the plus side.

Dining here was mostly an ok experience and I would say the pros of the place are about the vibes. It's local, with a good amount of seating inside. Good spot to casually catch up with friends or whoever. I'm perhaps too critical around the food itself. Now, nothing is actually wrong with the food. I got the Sesame Garlic Ramen and nothing about the bowl was memorable. It was almost bland. It's disappointing because I love this area and it is a neighborhood spot. Noodles were ok.

We came out here to try the ramen. It was a cozy little place. Recommend it for a date night. The shrimp bun was so crunch so def recommend if you're into crunchy textures.

So unbelievably disappointing. We ordered via Postmates and when our 2 ramens and tots arrived, the noodles were cold. Not just like cold from being outside, but refrigerator cold. Then I see this piece of paper stapled to the bag instructing us to literally heat the food. Cooking dinner was quite literally the opposite of what I was trying to do tonight. Nevertheless, I heated up the ramen. Turns out, it's also just really bad. Super bland, even after adding salt, there is absolutely no intrinsic flavor. Might I also add that it's exorbitantly expensive. The ramen shows a base price of $17 but to add literally anything to it (scallions, meat, egg) it's a few dollars on top. The tots were $13 and got about 10 tots and ironically were too salty. Geez. I am super confused as to how this place has gotten any hype, perhaps it's old hype and things have changed but this place is not good. There is no love or thought put into the food or the customer experience. Handing over ice cold noodles that you definitely parsed out earlier in the day or week does not make your customers feel like you care at all about what you are doing. This place needs an overhaul: new broth, new system for takeout and better meat supplier.

Soy ramen with ground pork

I really love this ramen! I've had the sesame garlic ramen and the soy ramen and it is excellent. It's a very unique, savory tasting ramen, like nothing I've really had before. I also love the ambiance of the interior. It's a really cool place to hang, and the staff is very friendly. Also happy hour runs until 7:30 and you get a free Sapporo with any entree. How cool is that! Prices are reasonable, although I wish they included meat in the ramen without the extra cost.

This place is amazing. I remember them located across the street or it might be something else. The space is big and opens late. The food is delicious especially the chicken wings. Food is good. Too bad we ate beforehand but we end up order for half of the table and the ramen is amazing. Great flavor and well made. Service is great. Food came pretty quickly and we appreciate they are understanding that some of us ate beforehand.

Sesame Garlic Ramen with nori, scallions, tofu, mushroom, bamboo shoots, and a soy marinated egg

Sesame garlic ramen, with a soy marinated egg, and chili oil on the side is *chefs kiss.* I opted for the vegan/vegetarian broth and it was perfect for a winter day in Brooklyn. Very flavorful broth and all the more flavorful once the chili oil was added. The tofu was also breaded so it soaked up a lot of the broth which made the soft tofu even better to eat. I also ordered the spicy cucumber appetizer which was a perfect spicy but cooling addition to the very hot ramen. Plus since it's cucumber it wasn't incredibly filling so I was able to enjoy both a side and a main dish pretty easily. The only annoying thing about Chuko is the pricing system since you have to pay for each topping, and the more toppings you get it can easily add up, but worth it for a dang good bowl of ramen!

This miso ramen is better than ani, Mr taka, kyuramen, and Ivan combined. The service is so fast, and they are so sweet. Great music, and summer cold noodle specials too!!

Came here for lunch with husband and 2 friends, we got seated quickly at the window counter seating. Place was pretty busy with filled tables, but the staff was compliant with checking vaccination and ID cards and menu was via QR code. Service was friendly and efficient. We got the chili soy chicken wings for appetizers and they were good, similar to Korean fried chicken. I ordered the miso ramen with spicy ground pork while my husband got the sesame garlic ramen with roasted pork and egg. They do charge additional for the add on options which can add up. I preferred the curly yellow noodles in my bowl vs. his thin wheat noodles, but both were delicious and we drained our bowls.

Ask the Community - Chuko

Did they stop offering the pork bone broth?

Is it children friendly?

It is a small restaurant that is very popular for good reason: it's delicious. You have to wait in line out the door for a seat. No reservations. If your children are patient and don't mind a busy, bustling atmosphere, they will be fine.

Any vegan friendly options on the menu?

They have a veggie soy ramen, but you'll need to ask the chef if its vegan... tricky diet for ramen kitchens.

Is it cash only?

No, they accept cards.

To start, I ordered their matcha lemonade, which was super refreshing with a well-balanced matcha flavor. We also had the cucumbers with onion dressing, and they were delicious -- the dressing paired perfectly with the crisp cucumbers. The fingerling potatoes were buttery and flavorful, and we also ordered the curry wings, which were very good. The curry flavor was subtle and paired really well with the parmesan cheese, giving them a savory depth without being overpowering. For my main, I had their steak ramen, which was a collaboration they were featuring at the time, and it's probably one of the best bowls of ramen I've ever had. The broth was incredibly flavorful, the steak was cooked perfectly, the egg was beautifully seasoned, and the shoestring potatoes added such a great crunch. I'm honestly going to be dreaming about that ramen. I'd highly recommend making a reservation. This place is absolutely worth it.

My husband had the kaishin don, I had the Ozakaya donburi set and our girls shared the shoyu tonkatsu ramen. The fish was so incredibly fresh here and the rice was seasoned perfectly. My donburi set also came with dashi broth that the waitress later brought over to pour on top of the leftover rice in my bowl to be enjoyed at the end of the meal. The broth and rice combination was really comforting and satisfying. This dish was something I wanted to try in Japan but did not get a chance to experience when there, so I was excited to try it at Ozakaya. I was really pleasantly surprised by the ramen here as well. Although the pork could have been better/more tender, the broth was rich and seasoned so well and not too salty like other places. Last but not least, the service here was excellent and efficient. I would definitely come back here the next time I visit Brooklyn as there were many dishes on the menu I wanted to try!

This place is super popular and I get why. It was packed but the service was insanely quick and efficient, which I appreciated. We shared the chirashi (9/10) and a spicy tuna roll (7/10) and it was honestly more than enough food for both of us. The sashimi is chef's choice so you're getting whatever's freshest that day. Overall, the quality was excellent. A couple of pieces were a little on the flavorless side, but nothing that ruined the experience. I'd still give it a solid 9/10 and would definitely come back if I'm in the area again.

My wife and I came here on a blustery winter night looking for some comfort food. We sat in the wooden seating and felt very relaxed. Instrumental guitar music played quietly above while we ordered hot and sparkling sakes. The sparkling was the star here. I'm not sure what Nana means in Japanese but the vibe is very homey. The tables are fairly close together, prompting lower volume speaking levels. We ordered the Karaage and the ramen featuring kimchi and tofu, and another with chasu chicken. The Karaage fried chicken was ok. It lacked salt and seasoning but came with this sauce that had some component that my palate wasn't feeling, maybe miso. My wife loved the sauce, and she loves miso so there you go. We each enjoyed our ramen, especially the rich flavorful broths. The noodles were nicely al dente, but otherwise didn't have much flavor, nor did they absorb the flavors of the broth. As they are usually my favorite part of ramen, I was pleasantly surprised that the broth was the real star of the dish. But that's usually the case with good ramen.
