My wife and I came here on a blustery winter night looking for some comfort food. We sat in the wooden seating and felt very relaxed. Instrumental guitar music played quietly above while we ordered hot and sparkling sakes. The sparkling was the star here. I'm not sure what Nana means in Japanese but the vibe is very homey. The tables are fairly close together, prompting lower volume speaking levels. We ordered the Karaage and the ramen featuring kimchi and tofu, and another with chasu chicken. The Karaage fried chicken was ok. It lacked salt and seasoning but came with this sauce that had some component that my palate wasn't feeling, maybe miso. My wife loved the sauce, and she loves miso so there you go. We each enjoyed our ramen, especially the rich flavorful broths. The noodles were nicely al dente, but otherwise didn't have much flavor, nor did they absorb the flavors of the broth. As they are usually my favorite part of ramen, I was pleasantly surprised that the broth was the real star of the dish. But that's usually the case with good ramen. I love the ramen here! Such a cute little spot. Bring cash! We ordered two orders of the gyoza and the Black Tonkotsu ramen to go. You can't go wrong with these. A perfectly jammy egg in the ramen, bits of meat in the broth and generous meat inside. The ramen in the fridge did solidify a bit, not sure why, but was just as good once I reheated it the next day. The gyoza comes 4 at a time and they were fried to crispy perfection and accompanied by a long green pepper. My goal is to eventually try their entire menu. Wow! quaint lil ramen spot in Brooklyn! The seaweed salad was so fresh and my dad wanted something spicy to go with it and they offered mustard that had a hint of wasabi. The best mustard ever and i dont even like mustard! I also ordered the japanese seafood pancake with scallions and kewpie sauce and loved the texture and flavor. Okay came here on 7/19 randomly for dinner and didn't see Irene working here. I was starving, so we ordered the gyoza even if I am not a fan of their filling and I ordered 2 extra bowls of noodles. The other waitress asked if we wanted egg noodles the one that comes with my spicy miso or the other noodles that came with the tonkotsu. I have never been asked this before, so it threw me off but I appreciated it. I ended up asking for both versions and L got the egg noodles and A and I shared the other lm bowl. When the gyoza came, A bit into it first and said they changed the feeling they must've heard your complaints. When I saw the filling, I noticed it did come with more greens and it's better than the previous version, but it's still something that's not worth praising. Once the Tonkotsu arrived, I immediately saw a difference in the egg. This egg yolk wasn't gooey. It was a firm yolk and presentation didn't look the same. Once I tasted my Spicy Miso, I knew something was up. It didn't have any kick or flavour. I was like wait did they change chefs? I asked and the owner's daughter said he's on vacation and her dad is cooking. I am sorry, even if he's the one that came up with the recipe, the other chef perfected it. Even A said tonkotsu lacked flavour as well. I wish I took a picture of both of the ramens to show the side by side difference, but I didn't because I come here way too much to be documenting the same Spicy Miso and Tonkotsu and gyoza. For my last sit-down meal in Brooklyn, my sister took me to her local ramen spot which is Nana Ramen. It's a small and cozy restaurant with plenty of ramen options to choose from. I decided on the kimchi ramen (added minced pork) and the sausage appetizer. The sausage and karaage (that my sister ordered) were great! A meal could easily be made from these two apps alone. The kimchi ramen was perfect. Soup tasted mildly like kimchi chigae but a much lighter version. I enjoyed all of the toppings in the ramen, too (corn, seaweed. Bok choy, kimchi). I think Nana Ramen is not very authentic Japanese? Curry ramen has coconut milk in it, so it definitely has a Thai-influence. I was expecting the brown Japanese curry flavor, so that was a bit disappointing. There's also bokchoy in it, so it's confusing. I don't hate the black tonkatsu, but the soft-boiled egg doesn't work in ramen like this. And there's only 1/2 of it. Again, I expected the soy-marinated one. The chicken karaage is good, and I like the crispy batter with the skin on. Overall, Nana Ramen's food gets 3.5/5. Decent prices for nyc! Staff mask, and service is fast for a Fri night dine-in. I am jealous that my friend lives across the street from one of the best ramen spots I have had to date! It was a chillier day so it was perfect for ramen. My eyes lit up when I saw takoyaki on the menu, and I was surprised to be the only one in the party familiar with it. I quickly ordered some for the table, and everyone enjoyed! Takoyaki is one of those treats I wish I could have more often. So enjoyable! Every aspect of the ramen I got was great, from the texture of the noodles and flavor of the broth to all of the extras that were in there. As always, I love the ramen bowls themselves. They always have such delightful designs and make the whole experience all the more worth it. If you like ramen, I recommend stopping by here. Spicy miso ramen I passed out after an hour from excruciating abdominal pain, sweating like pouring rain, vomitting, diarrhea. Being unconscious in a bathroom for hours, when collapsing, I hit my head and one side of the face somehwere and it is truly a horrendous nightmare. Really saddens me to write this because I really do enjoy the ramen here. I won't name the reason because I honestly don't know. I'll just share my experience and let you come to your own conclusion. I walked in this evening and was seated at a two seater. I spent about 30-35 minutes in the restaurant before departing. During that time 7 people who were seated after me that made up 3 different parties were served with alcohol, water, and/or had their orders taken. Before the waitress got to the second party seated after me I raised my hand silently to signal to her that I was patiently to be served. If you've been here, then you know it is a pretty small space, so a hand raise is hard to miss. At one point the server and I made eye contact. When I saw her serve the third party that was seated after me, I silently began packing my things. One of the two patrons next to me who were dining before I arrived noticed me leaving and in an attempt to bring comfort I guess said "I think she is the only one working." I calmly replied that "I've been coming here for years (cause there's usually only one person working the floor), and that I was seated before all of these people," while pointing to the each party. He didn't deny what I said and simply replied "oh." The black woman who was having dinner with him nodded in agreement as I am sure she also had her own thoughts as to what she observed. In the 30-35 minutes I was there, I never received a glass of water, had my order taken, or even a check-in/update. I walked a few doors to the Trad Room and was served within 5-6 minutes of being there and checked on multiple times. I was the only black woman dining at Nana Ramen during the time that I was there that did not have a non-black companion. Just poor service I guess. read more

It's true, I make a lot of bad life decisions. You'd think eating hot ramen in 75 degree summer would be one of them, but it isn't! Thankfully, Nana blasts their air conditioning. Plus they have a super cute backyard with separated booths (like Japan, duh). They also take social distancing really seriously. When I went, they were going out of their way to not seat people at tables next to each other (within reason). They have a great Japanese beer selection. I got a bottle I'd never heard of before - a Kyoto Yamadinishiki Ale (try saying that 3x fast). It was very tasty. For my ramen, I went with the black tonkotsu. It was pretty basic, with a few hunks of chasu and mushrooms. It was filling, but I think the black tonkotsu at Setagaya is way better. Food ALLERGIES please BEWARE!!! I had the black tonkotsu ramen for the 5th time, and had a horrible, scary allergic reaction! I come here often, but the last time I came, I had an extreme severe reaction. I am only allergic to milk protein (milk, whey, butter), and carry an epi pen, as it can be fatal. When calling the restaurant to figure out what happened, the owner, two chefs, and even the server completely denied it. (There was cross contamination, in the very least.) If you have a severe allergy, sadly I have to warn you to please, please avoid this business at all cost. It was literally my favorite restaurant in my neighborhood, but not anymore. I will never go back and put my life at risk-especially when the Owner and chefs denied it! If you're looking for ramen broth with deep flavor that first spoonful, this isn't it. I think it's a nice spot for locals, but for $15 a bowl I don't think broth is worth it because it tastes just like a packet ramen. It is worth noting that the restaurant makes effort with presentation which is nice. 1) Had the kaki fry or fried oysters which was on a bed of greens with tonkatsu sauce over it and I think some sort of dressing. It was yummy but a Tartar sauce would have been nice. 2) Shoyu ramen I think was better of the two. It came with 3 tiny poor flavored tsukune chicken (meatballs). The noodles were poor quality. 3) Paitan ramen simply shouldn't be called that because paitan broth are supposed to be deeply rich and flavorful. Again poor quality noodles. Note that they give you boiled egg and not soy sauce egg. I thought the chicken chashu was good though! Overall, I think it's nice to have a ramen spot in the neighborhood.
