Visited today for a late lunch. We were asked for our vax cards as we walked in, THANK YOU!!! Pleasant little place with friendly service, looked super-clean also. We shared an order of Rock Shrimp for an appetizer, wifeypie had Panang Curry with Chicken and Jasmine Rice, I opted for the Tonkotsu Ramen. The Rock Shrimp appy was generous for the cost and very tasty! Wifeypie's Curry was very good, the pumpkin was cooked perfectly. My Ramen was different than any ramen I have had to date, something in the broth added a Thai influence to it, interesting. One thing that could have been improved upon were the noodles. Thinner than typical ramen noodles and a tad overcooked, and when the dish arrived, partly clumped, I had to pull them apart. I would say, could have been a bit better but it was a minor detraction. The food was delicious, a bit pricey for what it was, but one young rude hostess ruined our evening at the end of the dinner. I had a very pleasant dinner with my toddler but as I was trying to round my son up after paying the hostess grabbed my beer without asking if I was going to finish it, acted very annoyed when I grabbed the bottle to finish it, said "I thought you were leaving!" Then she hurriedly set the table while I was sitting there and rudely asked us to leave because someone was waiting. I saw the guy waiting, he didn't seem to be in a hurry and this is not the kind of place that runs on reservations. Terrible treatment after spending $55 on a dinner for one adult and a toddler. Firstly, to give them credit where credit is due - the food was excellent, no complaints there whatsoever. We had the basil crispy skin pork fried rice with the Thai tea and they were really very good. The customer service was nothing special, she brought out our food fairly quickly and was polite (AS SHE SHOULD BE - this is the hospitality industry after all, that is a given and is nothing special). Honestly, she gave the bare minimum, we even raved about how much we were enjoying it and even told her that we would be bringing friends and family back, as my friend has done on several occasions. She didn't give much reaction to that and barely cracked a smile in all honesty but we were unfazed as we were having such a nice time. When the time came to pay the bill, my friend and I split it and we both left a tip. My tip was less than 5%. I don't have to explain my reasons for doing this to anyone, especially not the waitress. It is my decision and as a reminder, or rather, a public service announcement, TIPPING IS NOT MANDATORY. I AM NOT REQUIRED BY ANY LAW IN THIS STATE OR COUNTRY TO PAY A TIP, EVER. IT IS MY CHOICE HOW MUCH I TIP, IF I TIP AT ALL. Now that that is clear, let's get to the exciting bit. This waitress had the audacity to ask me if something was wrong. So I'm thinking, did my card not work or something but I know that couldn't be the case because my card is fine, but then she clarified and was like well you paid less than 5% so what was the issue. LOL excuse me? First of all, how dare you ask me why I paid a certain amount but also in front of someone else, like are you slow? The issue with that is, you don't know the dynamic btwn the person I dined with, it could have very well been a business meeting and 2, you don't ask why someone didn't pay you more like what the actual hell is wrong with you?! HAVE SOME CLASS. The fact that you even looked at the machine that quickly to see what we tipped you is INSANE. Thirsty, actually. This is a message to the owner, Onvadee. Train your staff to have some TACT and RESPECT. Also inform them and educate them that it is not the responsibility of the customer to pay them a decent living wage, that responsibility is YOURS! That rude little girl that dealt with us today should be pissed off with YOU for paying her such a crappy salary that she would treat your customers this way. YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED that you run an establishment like this, where your customers who were repeat customers and who introduced so many people to your restaurant, are treated this way. SHAME ON YOU! Not only did she throw a bloody tantrum for not getting the tip she wanted, she then tried to prevent me from speaking with the manager and then when I finally got to speak to the manager after pleading with her to let us have a private moment to talk, as we were leaving, she yelled and screamed after my friend and told us, "YES!, LEAVE!, GET OUT!" Great place on Franklin Ave. The variety of food this place offers is just what I needed. They go from ramen to Thai food and more. The service was bit disappointing though. They were slow to help out outside table and didn't even clean the water off the seats properly.. The good tasted fantastic though. The neon blue signage spelling out the restaurant name portends the variety of dishes on MISC's miscellaneous menu, which may or may not be appealing to you depending on who you are. I'm always wary of menus that offer too much, and MISC's menu which while Thai cuisine dominant, also offers pho & ramen, which pull from two other very different regions of Asia. I can't speak to the latter two cuisine offerings, but the Thai food was well made and hit the spot for our weeknight noodle and rice cravings. We ordered online for pick up and our food was ready in short order and packaged nicely to avoid any spillage. Our group enjoyed a variety of dishes, including spicy basil fried rice, shrimp pad kee mao, and panang curry. Portions were standard, which is to say there was plenty of food for our group, the proteins and vegetables were fresh and the flavors hit the spot. The only dish that was a miss in my opinion were the shrimp shanks, whose shrimp was overcooked, rendering that appetizer almost inedible. While I'm still suspicious of the Japanese and Vietnamese items on their menu, the quality of most of their dishes leaves me feeling more open minded to trying them. I know when the pad kee mao or panang curry craving strikes, and let's be real, it strikes often, I will make a dash to MISC for a medley of well executed Thai dishes. read more

Misc has a new fan!! I'm embarrassed to say I've walked past here so many times (for at least two years?) without knowing what it was. The discreet signage and possibly its proximity to a wine bar had me thinking it was along the lines of another wine spot. Then I randomly decided it was a tapas bar (I don't know where that rationale came from). And finally, I put laziness aside (or perhaps gave into my curiosity having had eaten at most places along this strip) and looked it up on Yelp, only then realizing it was a pan-Asian eatery. That said, I've been on a Thai craze lately and remembered Misc. I did a quick browse through Yelp photos and menu items/prices first to confirm it'd be worth a visit and it exceeded expectations. Ordered the drunken noodles with vegetable and tofu, no egg, with mild heat instead of medium and it was amazing! Its been sort of a struggle to find top drunken noodles in my area. But these had the perfect fresh vegetables to noodle ratio, savory sauce, not too spicy as I wanted and fresh basil. The servers were friendly and were able to make things right when there was a mishap with my dish. I was mostly there because of the 4-star rating, tempting food pics and reasonably priced noodles. I hadn't done much browsing in terms of the restaurant ambiance or aesthetic, so I was more than pleasantly surprised when I walked into an inviting, somewhat artsy space with blue walls and splashes of gold paint, a smartly positioned bar stacked neatly with a range of spirits--the perfect merge of trendy but chill. I tend to only go the drunken noodle route, but because this dish was executed so well, I trust Misc in the other popular ones and may even revisit pad Thai after many years. I also appreciate their model that caters to the sometimes indecisive, offering everything from Thai, to ramen and pho. The happy hour here is plentiful and includes huge selection of cocktails $7 bucks until 8:30. The menu itself is really more geared towards Thai food, less so Japanese ramen which was what I expected. Once we understood that we chose a couple of appetizers -- wings with tamarind sauce (superb) & ribs. I got invited to take the 40 minute trek from Manhattan to deep Brooklyn from my local buddy to check out his local spot for Thai food. Franklin wings- wowsah this puts Korean fried chicken to shame. This must have come out of the kitchen in less than 8 minutes which is a world record for twice fried wings. Extra crispy like Korean style and the tamarind sauce is what brings this all together. Fried tofu- standard fare. Effective and does the job. Emerald green curry- I swallowed this stuff so fast I barely beat my local guide by seconds on clearing my bowl. The Avocado is interesting and substitutes the eggplant feel. It works oddly enough and the sauce flavor is amazing and spicy favor wise without burning your mouth. Easily top 3-4 Thai spots, it gets top 2 on wings so you should try them! read more

It's been over a year since I've had MISC and I was so excited for their drunken noodles and wow, they did not disappoint! They were even better than the last time I had them. I had to stop myself from eating the whole thing so I could save some for another meal. My order said it would take 40 min via their ordering app but it was ready within 20 (glad I didn't wait 40 to go get it). I've been eyeing this thai restaurant for a few months on yelp and finally decided to give it a try. Theres a big curtain by the door but once the door opens you still feel the cold. They do have the heat turned up but boy oh boy when that door opens **shivers** Our waiter was really nice. My son was starving (what's new) so we ordered the ribs and wings as appetizers. The Franklin wings- absolutely delicious. Deeply fried with sweet chilli sauce smothered all over. Some may think it's a little too sweet but I loved it. The ribs- I dont eat pork but my son ate all 3 piece. "They were ok" he says. The strawberry lemonade was really refreshing. I drank 2 of them. AH-MAZING First thing we noticed and could not help noticing unfortunately, was the super loud group near the window. All the other people in the restaurant kept furtively looking over their shoulders wondering when they were ever gonna leave/shut up. It's not ok to yell in such a small place, it doesn't matter how drunk you are. The servers were nice and they turned on the heater soon enough. Also of course the food was absolutely wonderful. We ordered chicken Panang curry and shrimp spicy basil fried rice. Also one papaya salad. Wow, wow, wow. They did bring out beef panang curry but had no problem switching it once we told them we asked for chicken. We also ordered a tofu pad Thai to go as well as garlic sauce chicken. Pad Thai had great flavor and the garlic sauce chicken had a lot of veggies which was a nice surprise. I have visited MISC twice already...My first time was due to having to work at an agency during a "field day" near Franklin Avenue and wanting some vegetarian lunch options. Yes, I glanced through Yelp and saw several other places but this one caught my attention almost immediately. Why? Because it is a quaint and calming place to walk into which was needed during my lunch break that particular day-lol. Lunch was so enjoyable that going back another day for dinner was my top priority before heading from work. Establishment decor includes blue w/splashes of yellow paint on the walls, lighting fixtures hanging from the ceiling, ecclectic artwork, marble bar countertops, leather seats, barstools as well as simple red+black chairs with table arrangements. MiSC has a special lunch menu, a beverage menu and their regular menu. There are various options on the menu however I have ordered the same thing both times I have eaten here....the motto written on one of the chalk boards is "Make Your Belly Happy" and my belly has been very content after eating here twice-lol. Although I do not drink soda (unless it is Ginger Ale once in awhile) their Strawberry Lemonade has a splash of soda which balances out the delicious strawberry and lemonade flavors. Great Crispy Vegetarian Rolls which consisted of cabbage, carrots and celery rolled in wheat flour, served w/ pineapple sauce. The Veggie Noodle Soup -chicken broth w/ steamed mixed vegetables, rice noodles, scallion,.onion.and cilantro has become a favorite dish that I will probably order every time I come here-lol. I've come to MISC previously for food and it's been good. Last week I walked by around 5:30/6 PM and notified they had a sign up for Happy Hour. I'm unsure of how certain businesses have been handling things in these quarantined times, but according to their signage they haven't really missed a beat. Cocktails are for sale at happy hour prices (and are strong)! They're served in a disposable cup with a lid and straw and come with a complimentary bag of chips. Although the chips are random and not Thai in any way, I loved the thought. Service is quick. Staff is pleasant. Prices are reasonable. MISC is one of our favorite neighborhood spots and we have lunch there frequently. This is where we learned what real ramen is and we've tried every option on the menu. Today was beautiful so we ate outside. Too warm for hot soup, I checked out their salad selection. The Duck Salad on the menu sounded delicious but a little confusing because it didn't mention if it came with any greens. The server wasn't sure either, but I'm very happy that I took the chance because it was as delicious as everything else we've had there. Clean and modern venue. Kind and attentive service/waitstaff (although music was way too loud and too "pop girl"--needs a calmer ambience music so I could at least enjoy my food). Excellent refreshing lemon grass soup for my starter but my entree was the green curry and that was a little overrated--too much pineapple chunks and not enough vegetables! Too sweet. If any restaurant is going to be charging $17+ for an entree then I am extra critical of stuff like this (I rarely do yelp reviews) . I hate when they skimp of veggies that accompany the dish. Outside of way to many pineapple chunks (canned, many I add), it was just the curry (4 stars in taste), my protein (which was tofu and I give that 5 stars because they gave me a good amount of it) some fresh basil, avocado. Drunken noodles with tiger shrimp: I got this when I came here for the first time and it was so good that I craved it from time to time. During my second visit, I got this again to fix my craving. The dish has generous amount of shrimps and they are big and chewy that every bite is so delicious. They also give you a lot of veggies like onion, bell pepper, and string beans stir-fried with the sauce that has a slight kick of spiciness. I've had a lot of Thai food before, but I've never had such a delicious and satisfying drunken noodles. I HIGHLY recommend getting this if you're visiting this restaurant for the first time! Cashew nut sauce with rice noodles and chicken: From the sautéed dish section, I tried the cashew nut sauce with a choice of rice noodles as a base and chicken as protein. For any of the sautéed dishes, you can choose either rice noodles or jasmine rice as a base and any meat/tofu as protein. I was pleasantly surprised at how the stir-fried cashew nuts, chicken, and veggies with sweet and chili paste really went well together. I've never had something like this before so I was hesitant to try it, but I really liked it. However, I wasn't a big fan of the rice noodles as they kind of stuck together and thin noodles are not my most favorite -- however, that's my personal preference. I think next time, I would opt for jasmine rice. The portion size for both dishes is pretty big so it's very filling and I think the price is also reasonable. I've been ordering from here for A WHILE now, even more so now that their sister restaurant Six8Nine has been under renovations as of late. I usually don't have too much of an issue with my orders (which are always to go) HOWEVER I feel as if there's been a gradual slight decline in the quality of the food every time I've ordered.
