I'm so happy I found this new restaurant to try. We were seated and had our drinks within five minutes. Our server, Elijah was excellent. He was professional courteous. The restaurant itself is very clean. Acoustics are great, we didn't have to yell to speak over a crowded restaurant. read more

I've given this place 3 chances over the years. As much as I want to like it, I just don't. The food is sub-par at best. The atmosphere is terrible. The seating is uncomfortable and just one of the many pain-in-the-you-know-whats this place has to offer. And my main issue is with the service, which is rude and lacking. I also waited inordinate periods of time, for some cold, barely-microwaved, bland mush each time. I don't understand the appeal, personally. read more

I had a taste for some chicken and waffles so I stopped past Metro. Makayla was an excellent server! She was attentive and prompt. The waffle was fluffy but average in taste. The chicken came out hot and moist, I added the sweet and spicy sauce for flavor. Overall I had a good experience. read more

Came with my family and had Cindy as our waitress. She was extremely professional and knowledgeable and super sweet. Gave us a bunch of options with our selections. Food was amazing and very affordable here. Few and far between with most restaurants that overcharge for mediocre quality food. Will definitely be coming back and will be asking for Cindy. Such a great experience! read more

Me and my Brooke best friend a.k.a. my daughter went to Metro diner for breakfast. There's always a wait so we knew we were gonna have to wait we put our name on the list sat in the car got called up in about 2530 minutes. We were seated, we were told that our waiter will be Caleb didn't know who Caleb was, but I watched the gentleman that turned out to be. Caleb walked past us about two or three times about 10 minutes later a couple was seated in the booth in front of us where Caleb proceeded to greet them and bring them drinks about five minutes later where he came along and greeted me and my daughter finally, we ordered our food which took an extremely long time to come out, but I kind of figured because the place was packed with a waitlist as usual food was OK. The last time me and my girlfriend went. The grits were a little better this time. They were a little thicker and not seasoned like they were the last time I ordered the home fries, which had no seasoning this time so I don't know who was in the kitchen, but they need to go back to training. I guess they I thought they were cooking for a retirement home where seasoning is not encouraged the fact that I had to repeat two my waiter items that I needed that he kept forgetting at the end I did ask him could I have ice water to go since my water that I have been drinking was halfway done with no ice. He literally brought me an empty cup with a lid. At this point I had had enough my daughter had already taken the keys and went to the car I was done at this point so needless to say I'm gonna put Metro diner on the back shelf for a while and revisit this in about six or seven months just to see if they've improved or declined. read more

A morning appointment at a doctor in the Greenbrier area of Chesapeake created the need for lunch, which I normally skip. We had previously tried two different eateries after morning appointments. Both spots were crossed off my list for repeat visits. The choices remaining were recommendations from a good friend who lives in the Grassfield area or a Yelp search for nearby places with good ratings. I chose Yelp. Metro Diner was close and on the way home. The location is a small strip center facing Volvo Parkway. Because there's no curb cut from the south, enter by a side street that loops behind the 7-Eleven to Volvo Commons. The eatery serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. The menu included an extensive breakfast/brunch menu. Dinner items also were plentiful. But the number of true lunch selections was limited. I ended up ordering the Fish & Chips from the dinner menu, substituting green beans for the fries. Coleslaw also came with the dish. I was served 2 large pieces of fish, enough for two meals. They were good as were the green beans. The coleslaw was excellent & exactly to my taste. It's really hard to find restaurants that serve coleslaw the way I prefer. My friend had pancakes & bacon, which she proclaimed to be good. I loved the ease of paying by credit card with a small terminal the server brought to the table, The spot appeared to be popular, especially at the time we visited. Metro Diner will go on my list of approved "after doctor" eateries. read more

I visited Metro Diner located in the Greenbrier area of Chesapeake recently on a Saturday morning.  The atmosphere is what you would expect from a typical diner with a mixture of booths and table seating. They were busy and had a few customers waiting to be seated but since I was solo dining I was seated right away. I found the waitstaff to be very friendly and attentive, however my meal did not meet my expectations and left me feeling disappointed based on reviews I read.  I ordered the Bissell Breakfast, which included scrambled eggs, turkey sausage, home fries, croissant French toast, and a side of fruit. There was a bit of a wait for my order, so I was disappointed when the food was not hot when it arrived. When ordering I specifically asked if the eggs were fresh-cracked and was told they were; however, the texture and taste suggested liquid eggs. Additionally, the home fries lacked any seasoning or salt, making them quite flavorless. Finally, although the waitress highly recommended the croissant French toast, it was only dipped in batter on one side, which was disappointing. After sharing my experience with a friend she suggested that I return to try the chicken and waffles, I am hesitant to make the drive back to Chesapeake given this experience. If you are in the area, please stop by and try the chicken and waffles and let me know if it is worth a return visit. read more

Came for lunch after church with my husband and our friends. We got there early and were able to get on the waitlist while we waited for our friends. 20minute wait on Sunday afternoon isn't bad. It was my husband's first time here and I had only been once several years ago. There were so many options it was hard to choose. I decided on the chicken tenders with cheese fries and broccoli. My husband was going to get the fried chicken meal but copied me and got the chicken tenders too lol. Our friends got the avocado breakfast sandwich with fruit, which was one item I was considering lol. Our other friend got the fried chicken Benedict. Everyone enjoyed their meals. I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the food. The chicken tenders were seasoned well and the broccoli was cooked perfectly. Definitely a great spot for breakfast or lunch!! read more

If you're in Chesapeake and craving a hearty breakfast or some comfort food, you should give Metro Diner a try. The staff is friendly and the service felt relaxed but attentive. I was pleasantly surprised by how good the food was and it came out pretty quick. Everything tasted freshly made and cooked with care. My favorite are the pancakes and coffee. Ambiance is a typical diner set up with booths and tables for larger groups. read more

Stopped in after Dr. appointment since it's right on the way home and revues looked fairly good so we thought we would give it a try. We were greeted upon entering and seated immediately. Our waitress was very friendly and took our drink orders and left us to look over the menu. Noise level was a bit high and made it difficult to carry on a conversation and even hear our waitress. I was in the mood for breakfast still and ordered a short stack of pancakes and a side of bacon. Of course I had to have coffee. Everything was good and our waitress brought out a container of warm maple syrup for my pancakes.she was also very good about checking with me for coffee refills. My friend ordered Fish and Chips. Her meal came with coleslaw and French fries but she substituted green beans for the fries. Her meal was very good and the two pieces of fish were very large. After eating one piece and the sides, a box was requested to bring the other piece of fish home. We will probably return when in the area again but we both agree it will more than likely be when we are both in the mood for breakfast. read more

The food here is excellent and it is always made to a high standard even when they're busy. We tend to pick places like this when we have a brunch with friends or want to grab a non-fast-food lunch. This location doesn't have a ton of seating but it's adequate and has combination booths and tables. Order the chicken and waffles if you want to have leftover chicken to take home (like I always do). Everyone in our group was happy with what they ordered off the breakfast and lunch menus. read more

We wanted some late breakfast so we stopped in for a bite at the metro diner. The service was great. We were seated immediately and the waitress was super sweet and quick. I ordered the huevos rancheros because it's my favorite thing. Their take on it is a bit different with what I'm used to. They fry the tortilla and then top it with the toppings. I wish there was more black beans because that's really my favorite part of huevos rancheros. There were like 5 beans on there LOL. The crispy jalapeños were REALLY good with it though. I'll still rate it high because it was pretty tasty. read more

Can't even tell you how much we loved it here. We decided to do a Christmas Eve breakfast here anna we LOVED it! The waitstaff was exceptional, very welcoming. The food...oh my God! The waffles were so fluffy. And HALF A CHICKEN with those waffles!? I could spend an hour taking about the strawberry butter. We also had the chicken eggs benedict, which was awesome! The cinnamon bun pancakes with candied pecans was to die for. Thankfully we have leftovers! This place is exceptional! My new go-to! read more

Just order from them on UberEats this morning about 10am. I ordered the Bissell breakfast. I was given raw potatoes and undercooked pancakes. No literally i bite into the potatoes and it did not break. The pancake are pale and you can smell the freaking batter. They touch the pan and immediately took it out! Horrible cooking, absolutely terrible. How do you mess up pancakes and homefries! read more

So my husband & I went to Metro Sunday August 9 at 9:30 am. It was early I guess. I girl that wanted to seat us wanted to give us a both for 4 people. They could use that both for more money. I said we will take the two person booth. She gave me a big unhappy smile. I said why? She said will your going to have to wait along time to order. Ok I don't care. It less than 10 minutes our server Andrew waited on us. He was attentive and so kind. I would go back again just to get a table where he serves. The food is always excellent. The owner came and asked how our meal was. We said great. read more

Came here once to pick up food and another time, I ordered delivery through their Olo service. The first time, I got the steak tips with green beans and mashed potatoes. First thing I noticed was the dish size was tiny and the weight was light. The steak tips were overcooked and the meal barely satisfied my hunger. The next time, I ordered delivery due to heavy rain and not feeling like picking up the food myself. I ordered the chicken tender plate with onion rings, side salad, and a biscuit. The meal took a long time to arrive 1hr 20 minutes after ordering but that may have been due to weather and traffic. The food was highly disappointing. The chicken tenders were small, didn't come with any type of sauce (lucky I had Chick-Fil-A sauce on hand), the onion rings were ok, and the biscuit was also okay but a little dry. I wasn't that satisfied with either of my meals and I honestly only ordered the second time because they gave me a 50% off entree and I was hoping the next meal would be better as Metro diner does get many good reviews but that may just be for their dine in service. I will probably not be back to this location or any other ones as there are too many much better dining experiences in the area. Overall, I was just pretty disappointed with striking out at Metro Diner. read more

It took 7 minutes from the time we sat down to when we saw our server. The manager did come over during that time to explain that the servers were tied up with other tables. At that point I counted 4 servers and 5 other tables. After we ordered the food took another 20 minutes to arrive. If I was the server, I would not have served the meatloaf. My meatloaf was burnt (see photo). The mashed potatoes were lukewarm. The green beans were the best part of the meal. The green beans were cooked perfectly. Halfway through our meal the server appeared and asked if we wanted dessert. It doesn't look like a typical diner and there is minimal ambiance. read more

We had a party of Seven, virtually everyone at the table ordered the Chicken & Waffles. The 1" thick Waffle is served with a strawberry butter, I personally would prefer a cinnamon or apple butter , accompanied by 1/2 Chicken Fried to perfection served with a side of Nashville Sauce . Nashville sauce, Im told is Heat hotsauce and syrup mixed together for lip smacking toe tapping enjoyment!!! Everyone at the table attacked this Chicken and left a carcass trail that should serve as a compliment to the chefs in the kitchen. I ordered the Spicy Honey Chicken on a biscuit with a fruit cup on the side. The chicken biscuit was fire, the fruit was fired, I sent that back in exchange for grits. Unfortunately the grits didn't fare well for me either, as they were luke warm and a little loose. Our serve Jaxson, was very attentive and helpful, I'm sure we caused him to walk a mile, but he did it with a smile. The food was Reasonably priced, I'm going to try the Chicken and Waffles next time as that seemed to be the favorite throughout the restaurant!!! read more

My first time eating here was through UberEats for a lazy saturday morning. I was not impressed by the Steak & Scramble bowl as there was BARELY any of the listed items (i.e Steak) and primarily just egg with grape tomatoes. Late night quick hot dinner. Metro Diner is always a clean place with staff rapidly cleaning tables. Torri was our friendly waitress, smiling warmly as she greeted and took our orders. The fried cod fish was delivered crispy cooked to perfection. Seasoned not too heavy, I devoured each of the 2 good-sized pieces. Fries could have cooked just a little bit more as they were warmed mostly by the fish. The Cole slaw was day old and lacked any flavor. Hubby's steak tips sat in an over salty gravy. He is used to my homemade gravy, tho, he mentioned. As a veggie lover,he loved the fresh al dentevsteamed broccoli. He also enjoyed the smashed potatoes as they tasted homemade. It's been some years since dining here at this neighborhood restaurant. This evening was a quick delight. Even the ice water was cool and fresh. Metro Diner offers libations. I recently had lunch at the Metro Diner located on Volvo Parkway in the heart of Chesapeake. I was a little disappointed that the no longer offered the Reuben Sandwich that I really enjoy but that disappointment didn't last long after I sank my teeth into the classic cheeseburger that I ordered. I have been going to lunch at the Metro Diner for several months now, and this is my first disappointment. The fries served with my burger were deep fried in old, stale oil instead of clean oil. It is a way most cheap restaurant owners try to save money. It makes the fries less appetizing and foul tasting. They were dark dirty brown instead of golden brown, and tasted like dirt. My family is very fond of the Metro Diner, today we all had the Bissell breakfast, which is great because you get lots of options to customize it. I had fruit (instead of eggs, as i do not like them), crispy bacon, crispy hash browns, a short stack of pancakes and a biscuit. My companions had eggs, one chose grits instead of hash browns and an English muffin instead of a biscuit, they also both tried the 1/2 waffle instead of pancakes. My hash browns and bacon were nicely crispy, the biscuit large and fluffy. The fruit cup was delightful, with plenty of bite size pieces of cantaloupe, honeydew, pineapple and strawberry - some places cut their fruit in large chunks so you end up with less. My parents loved the waffle and said it will be their new go-to. Our server is always Becky (by request)- she is amazing. She not only recognizes my parents and remembers their usual orders, she is warm and knowledgeable about the menu and happy to answer any questions you may have. Her service is definitely five stars! Generally there is a low to moderate level of conversation, but you should be able to talk to everyone in your party easily. You can choose to either sit inside or their little patio area if you like the weather outside. read more

Metro Diner may be a chain, but it's a great spot in the 757 for a good breakfast. Came on a Saturday morning around 9:30am and it was quite busy, however the wait was very short. Quoted 10-20 minutes, only waited about 5 minutes. Sat at a comfy booth and had great service. Food-wise, the biscuits and gravy was the best thing we ordered and everyone at the table agreed. My omelette was also good, but definitely needed some salt. Some of us got the home fries and others got the hash browns. Table decision that the hash browns were better; super crispy but still tender in the middle. The country sausage patties were totally flavorless and dry. Overall, would come back for the biscuits and gravy! read more
