It less than 10 minutes our server Andrew waited on us. He was attentive and so kind. I would go back again just to get a table where he serves. The food is always excellent. A morning appointment at a doctor in the Greenbrier area of Chesapeake created the need for lunch, which I normally skip. We had previously tried two different eateries after morning appointments. Both spots were crossed off my list for repeat visits. The choices remaining were recommendations from a good friend who lives in the Grassfield area or a Yelp search for nearby places with good ratings. I chose Yelp. Metro Diner was close and on the way home. The location is a small strip center facing Volvo Parkway. Because there's no curb cut from the south, enter by a side street that loops behind the 7-Eleven to Volvo Commons. The eatery serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. The menu included an extensive breakfast/brunch menu. Dinner items also were plentiful. But the number of true lunch selections was limited. I ended up ordering the Fish & Chips from the dinner menu, substituting green beans for the fries. Coleslaw also came with the dish. I was served 2 large pieces of fish, enough for two meals. They were good as were the green beans. The coleslaw was excellent & exactly to my taste. It's really hard to find restaurants that serve coleslaw the way I prefer. My friend had pancakes & bacon, which she proclaimed to be good. Just order from them on UberEats this morning about 10am. I ordered the Bissell breakfast. I was given raw potatoes and undercooked pancakes. No literally i bite into the potatoes and it did not break. The pancake are pale and you can smell the freaking batter. They touch the pan and immediately took it out! I found the waitstaff to be very friendly and attentive, however my meal did not meet my expectations and left me feeling disappointed based on reviews I read.  I ordered the Bissell Breakfast, which included scrambled eggs, turkey sausage, home fries, croissant French toast, and a side of fruit. There was a bit of a wait for my order, so I was disappointed when the food was not hot when it arrived. When ordering I specifically asked if the eggs were fresh-cracked and was told they were; however, the texture and taste suggested liquid eggs. Additionally, the home fries lacked any seasoning or salt, making them quite flavorless. Finally, although the waitress highly recommended the croissant French toast, it was only dipped in batter on one side, which was disappointing. After sharing my experience with a friend she suggested that I return to try the chicken and waffles, I am hesitant to make the drive back to Chesapeake given this experience. Came for lunch after church with my husband and our friends. We got there early and were able to get on the waitlist while we waited for our friends. 20minute wait on Sunday afternoon isn't bad. It was my husband's first time here and I had only been once several years ago. There were so many options it was hard to choose. I decided on the chicken tenders with cheese fries and broccoli. My husband was going to get the fried chicken meal but copied me and got the chicken tenders too lol. The food here is excellent and it is always made to a high standard even when they're busy. We tend to pick places like this when we have a brunch with friends or want to grab a non-fast-food lunch. We wanted some late breakfast so we stopped in for a bite at the metro diner. The service was great. We were seated immediately and the waitress was super sweet and quick. I ordered the huevos rancheros because it's my favorite thing. Their take on it is a bit different with what I'm used to. They fry the tortilla and then top it with the toppings. I wish there was more black beans because that's really my favorite part of huevos rancheros. There were like 5 beans on there LOL. The crispy jalapeños were REALLY good with it though. Came here once to pick up food and another time, I ordered delivery through their Olo service. The first time, I got the steak tips with green beans and mashed potatoes. First thing I noticed was the dish size was tiny and the weight was light. The steak tips were overcooked and the meal barely satisfied my hunger. The next time, I ordered delivery due to heavy rain and not feeling like picking up the food myself. I ordered the chicken tender plate with onion rings, side salad, and a biscuit. The meal took a long time to arrive 1hr 20 minutes after ordering but that may have been due to weather and traffic. The food was highly disappointing. The chicken tenders were small, didn't come with any type of sauce (lucky I had Chick-Fil-A sauce on hand), the onion rings were ok, and the biscuit was also okay but a little dry. I wasn't that satisfied with either of my meals and I honestly only ordered the second time because they gave me a 50% off entree and I was hoping the next meal would be better as Metro diner does get many good reviews but that may just be for their dine in service. I will probably not be back to this location or any other ones as there are too many much better dining experiences in the area. At that point I counted 4 servers and 5 other tables. After we ordered the food took another 20 minutes to arrive. If I was the server, I would not have served the meatloaf. Nashville sauce, Im told is Heat hotsauce and syrup mixed together for lip smacking toe tapping enjoyment!!! Everyone at the table attacked this Chicken and left a carcass trail that should serve as a compliment to the chefs in the kitchen. I ordered the Spicy Honey Chicken on a biscuit with a fruit cup on the side. The chicken biscuit was fire, the fruit was fired, I sent that back in exchange for grits. Unfortunately the grits didn't fare well for me either, as they were luke warm and a little loose. Late night quick hot dinner. Metro Diner is always a clean place with staff rapidly cleaning tables. Torri was our friendly waitress, smiling warmly as she greeted and took our orders. The fried cod fish was delivered crispy cooked to perfection. Seasoned not too heavy, I devoured each of the 2 good-sized pieces. Fries could have cooked just a little bit more as they were warmed mostly by the fish. The Cole slaw was day old and lacked any flavor. Hubby's steak tips sat in an over salty gravy. He is used to my homemade gravy, tho, he mentioned. As a veggie lover,he loved the fresh al dentevsteamed broccoli. He also enjoyed the smashed potatoes as they tasted homemade. I have been going to lunch at the Metro Diner for several months now, and this is my first disappointment. The fries served with my burger were deep fried in old, stale oil instead of clean oil. It is a way most cheap restaurant owners try to save money. It makes the fries less appetizing and foul tasting. They were dark dirty brown instead of golden brown, and tasted like dirt. My family is very fond of the Metro Diner, today we all had the Bissell breakfast, which is great because you get lots of options to customize it. I had fruit (instead of eggs, as i do not like them), crispy bacon, crispy hash browns, a short stack of pancakes and a biscuit. My companions had eggs, one chose grits instead of hash browns and an English muffin instead of a biscuit, they also both tried the 1/2 waffle instead of pancakes. My hash browns and bacon were nicely crispy, the biscuit large and fluffy. The fruit cup was delightful, with plenty of bite size pieces of cantaloupe, honeydew, pineapple and strawberry - some places cut their fruit in large chunks so you end up with less. My parents loved the waffle and said it will be their new go-to. Our server is always Becky (by request)- she is amazing. She not only recognizes my parents and remembers their usual orders, she is warm and knowledgeable about the menu and happy to answer any questions you may have. Her service is definitely five stars! Quoted 10-20 minutes, only waited about 5 minutes. Sat at a comfy booth and had great service. Food-wise, the biscuits and gravy was the best thing we ordered and everyone at the table agreed. My omelette was also good, but definitely needed some salt. Some of us got the home fries and others got the hash browns. The food portions are hearty and packed with robust flavors of a good comfort dish. The night I came was very quiet and was welcoming enough to try the variety of food offerings. I started with the Buffalo bites with ranch which were juicy and delicious. Every bite was moist and yummy. I would have loved julienned carrots instead of celery. Dinner was the turkey plate and it was majorly delicious and everything on the plate was warm and very tasty. I loved the steamed green beans. I finished my meal with the apple cobbler. I will say it will take some time so order it as soon as your dinner plate arrives. The dish was hot and so huge enough for 3-4 people to adequately share.
