My family is very fond of the Metro Diner, today we all had the Bissell breakfast, which is great because you get lots of options to customize it. I had fruit (instead of eggs, as i do not like them), crispy bacon, crispy hash browns, a short stack of pancakes and a biscuit. My companions had eggs, one chose grits instead of hash browns and an English muffin instead of a biscuit, they also both tried the 1/2 waffle instead of pancakes. My hash browns and bacon were nicely crispy, the biscuit large and fluffy. The fruit cup was delightful, with plenty of bite size pieces of cantaloupe, honeydew, pineapple and strawberry - some places cut their fruit in large chunks so you end up with less. My parents loved the waffle and said it will be their new go-to. Our server is always Becky (by request)- she is amazing. She not only recognizes my parents and remembers their usual orders, she is warm and knowledgeable about the menu and happy to answer any questions you may have. Her service is definitely five stars! Generally there is a low to moderate level of conversation, but you should be able to talk to everyone in your party easily. Metro Diner may be a chain, but it's a great spot in the 757 for a good breakfast. Came on a Saturday morning around 9:30am and it was quite busy, however the wait was very short. Quoted 10-20 minutes, only waited about 5 minutes. Sat at a comfy booth and had great service. Food-wise, the biscuits and gravy was the best thing we ordered and everyone at the table agreed. My omelette was also good, but definitely needed some salt. Some of us got the home fries and others got the hash browns. Table decision that the hash browns were better; super crispy but still tender in the middle. The country sausage patties were totally flavorless and dry. First off, you better metro yourself over here swiftly like a little brown fox!! This place is SO unbelievably good. The food portions are hearty and packed with robust flavors of a good comfort dish. The night I came was very quiet and was welcoming enough to try the variety of food offerings. I started with the Buffalo bites with ranch which were juicy and delicious. Every bite was moist and yummy. I would have loved julienned carrots instead of celery. Dinner was the turkey plate and it was majorly delicious and everything on the plate was warm and very tasty. I loved the steamed green beans. I finished my meal with the apple cobbler. I will say it will take some time so order it as soon as your dinner plate arrives. The dish was hot and so huge enough for 3-4 people to adequately share. This place didn't want our business. My wife and I came for a late lunch. We are in our 60's and were dressed business casual so it wasn't like we looked undesirable. We were seated at a table that had a nice sticky spot in front of me, which I didn't even have a chance to mention because that was the last we had contact with any staff. Ok so today was our first time here. We checkin and put our name on the waiting list. Stayed in our vehicle until we got our phone call. The wait was about 25 mins but it was packed so that's not bad. I feel they truly exercised the space nicely. It's not tiny being bigger than most waffle house establishments with indoor and covered outdoor seating. The music was very diverse play via the surround sound. At moments it did get a touch loud but it was mostly the background noise of families and friends enjoying their meal with conversation. My husband an I both ordered the fried chicken and waffle meal. We asked for it to be well done which they obliged nicely. The strawberry butter I was skeptical about so I asked for it on the side. Must say it was rather tasty in small doses. We got our daughter the kids pancakes which she enjoyed as well. For drinks we had apple juice for the youngin, almer palmers for us and I partook in a cranberry pineapple mimosa. The fried chicken was delicious, fried ro perfection not burnt but nice golden brown crunch and juicy an seasoned. That's four pieces of chicken too (1Breast, 1Wing, 1Thigh and 1Drumbstick) I am full and content. The staff was super friendly and the establishment was really clean. I loved the diversity of the families coming to dine. We saw a lot of eye catching things on the menu so we shall be back. My wife and I were visiting the area from California. On a restaurant suggestion, by a lady working at the Courtyard Marriott in Greenbrier, told us to try the Metro Diner. So glad we did. We had Tina as our server and she was awesome. She made the visit even better. Definitely recommend this local restaurant. Good food, nice atmosphere and great enthusiastic servers. I have had it a couple of times in different parts of the country and thought it was just ok. Here if was delicious and very savory. You get a lot of chicken with your order. I took home a piece because you get almost one-half a chicken. The combination is perfect. Order an extra side of their house butter for the waffle. Chicken was both crunchy on the outside and juicy on the inside. I would definitely come here again for this. Service was pretty good for how busy they were. Came here for brunch and I'm happy to report that it's one of the only places in the Virginia Beach area that isn't super slammed on weekends with a two hour wait! We were sat immediately and our server was super attentive. I think she filled my coffee four or five times! The food was typical brunchy food, I really enjoyed the steak and hash browns bowl that I got. They also had a couple seasonal cocktails, like an apple pie mimosa. Drool...
