It was average diner food and friendly service, with super cute ambiance I got the hash. I love hash. When it is made in house I always order it Meat-- lots of it in very large pieces. Some was too fatty to eat Potatoes-- pretty large chunks Vegetables-- on the plus side there were no green peppers. I dislike green pepper but on the minus side, I could not discern any red pepper or onion. I would not order again The eggs tasted like egg and the toast tasted like toast. The bacon was floppy.
My daughter wanted to come here. Seating is first come first serve. it was pretty busy Sunday around noon. They do serve breakfast most of the day. My kid wanted a hot dog and some fries. It looked really good! And I will tell you what, those fries were good. They're a little fries which I love. I had the eggs Benedict. And that was it! No sides. It was all right. Better than a lot of places. I just wish the fried green tomato was thicker. Overall, place wasn't bad. Outside seating. I remember this place used to be more of a bar than a restaurant. It seems to be more of a restaurant now. Family friendly. Kind of crowded inside so not a great place for strollers. Service is really nice and the food came out fast.
I absolutely love this place!! My son and I come almost very weekend! We always order the same thing bc it's always so good! It's one of the few places where my son will clean his plate! The service is always great, they are so friendly and nice. They know our order now and just treat us like family every time we walk through the door! If you are looking for great food and that classic diner feel, look no further! I highly recommend this place to anyone and everyone 10 out 10!
A great diner spot located in the Ghent neighborhood of Norfolk. There is great outside seating on their front patio with nice shade options. On this occasion, we dined outside. Our server was prompt and attentive. We never had to wait for anything. My BLT was very good and came with avocado which was a nice addition. You have the option of adding an egg which I declined. My Dad had a burger which he enjoyed. We both especially liked the French fries which are skinny and long. Yum! The breakfast menu is extensive so we will need to return. The only challenge I find with coming here more often is finding a parking spot close enough for bringing someone with mobility issues.

We will be back to try the lunch specials, but we stuck with breakfast today. Love having such a cute diner nearby in the bustling Ghent area. The coffee was delicious and the refills were plenty. I didn't care much for the hashbrowns, however my husband did. The dining area is small but they offered seating on their heated patio. We opted inside for the charm!
Stopped in for lunch. Cozy spot with a long counter and a few high top tables spread around. Service was quick and attentive. Had the club sandwich. Everything was great. Would definitely come back.
Came for lunch with a friend. Weather was great so we sat outside. Our sever was super friendly and attentive. I got the turkey bacon melt with onion rings & added an egg to the sandwich. My friend got cheese eggs and pancakes. The food came out quickly and was cooked well. My sandwich was super yummy and bigger than I expected. The onion rings were great, seasoned well and fresh. I got an order of fried green tomatoes to go for my husband, which he enjoyed. Definitely a great spot for breakfast or lunch.
I've been a bunch of times over the years just most my pictures have my kids in them so I only posted this one. The food is always great, the staff is super sweet, and it's so homey. I brought my dad recently when he visited from RI and he loved it. We ate breakfast both mornings he was here at little dog. Might go again in a couple weekends
Just about every other weekend, me and my friend wake up early to come here to eat breakfast. I always get the crabcake egg Benedict. It's an amazing place to eat for starting your day! We normally just sit at the bar, mainly since the staff is so personable. If you're looking for an old-school diner field with a very positive environment, I suggest coming here.
Five stars alone off of the staffs attitude. I walked in right be for closing unbeknownst to me (a few places online have conflicting hours of operation, they close at 2 not 3) and they were very kind about it and took my order anyway(I ended up packing it to go out of respect despite the fact they insisted I stayed and enjoyed myself). Once I realized they were closing I apologized and the two ladies were very lovely about it. The prices are pretty good and they have a nice sized menu that's broken up by meal type. I like that with a few items you can do half orders which is great for trying something new. The diner is really cute and kind of has a retro vibe, it is seat yourself and they have a big classic diner countertop. The food look amazing, it looked exactly like what's pictured on the menu. The staff were so hospitable and gracious. I will definitely be back here !
Breakfast at Little Dog Diner is always a treat, thanks to Lynn! As a regular, I can say she consistently goes above and beyond, greeting us with a warm smile and making sure everything is perfect. She's fast, friendly, and always keeps the mimosas flowing. Whether she's serving or bartending, her energy and attention to detail make every visit special. If you stop by, sit in her section--you won't be disappointed!

Absolutely FANTASTIC! Just wow, this place has the best brunch food in Norfolk. I am so impressed. The meatloaf panini is seriously life changing. I changed out provolone for pepper jack and, genuinely wow. The eggs benedict was fabulous. Our pancake also hit the spot. Our server Avery was so nice! Our food came out quick and delicious. The atmosphere feels so nostalgic and such a vibe. This is an absolute must try spot for all locals and tourists! read more
Went on a Sunday morning around 10:30 a.m. This is a seat-yourself restaurant with bar seating, tables, a front outdoor seating area, and a partially enclosed back patio. Just something to keep in mind if you're visiting in the summer. The back patio does not have air conditioning. If you sit by the large front windows, be prepared for the sun. The building faces east, so by late morning the sun is shining directly through those windows. I was sitting with my back to it and was so hot. I probably could have asked them to lower the shade, but it's something to consider when choosing your table. Shana was our server, and she was great. Friendly, attentive, and checked on us regularly. Now for the best part. The sorbet mimosas. We ordered two, one with mango sorbet and one with lemon and raspberry sorbet, and they were incredible. If you come here, these are an absolute must order. We started with the fried green tomatoes. They were good, but they were clearly made from frozen slices rather than fresh-cut tomatoes. I ordered the salmon cakes with eggs and a pancake. Everything was delicious. No complaints at all. The food easily earns 5 stars. The decor has a classic old-school diner vibe with black and white checkered floors and chrome accents, which I really liked. My only real complaint was the bar seating. If you're on the shorter side, the stools are not very comfortable. The seats are not very deep, there is no foot rail to rest your feet on, and since the stools are bolted to the floor, you cannot scoot in to get comfortable. The backs of my legs started going numb, so we moved to a table as soon as one opened up. Ironically, it was the table directly in front of that hot window. Overall, I'd definitely come back. Great food, excellent service, and those sorbet mimosas alone are worth the visit. Just be strategic about where you sit if you're visiting on a warm, sunny day. read more

Decided to try Little Dog Diner today for breakfast, and it is truly a hidden gem. As many times as I have been on Colley and was even recently right across the street at the bike shop, I've never noticed this place. It's a very small establishment. There is some table seating as well as seating at the counter, and then there is outside seating out front and a covered patio out back. You can sit wherever you'd like that is open. First we sat at the counter because that was all that was available inside. The bar stools are mounted to the ground and were too high for short folks making them uncomfortable. There isn't a place to rest your feet and you can't move the seats back so that you can move your body forward. We ended up moving to a table when another couple left, and that was MUCH better! Shana was our waitress, and she was great. Super nice and very attentive. Also did a good job of keeping our table free of clutter. We had the fried green tomatoes, and those were really fresh and good. I like the sauce that came with them, and I am glad they put it on the side vs serving it on top of the dish. For my meal, I had their homemade corn-beef hash with 2 eggs with cheese and substituted the biscuit or toast for a single pancake. We also had coffee and the sorbet mimosa in mango/lemon and another in raspberry/lemon. I personally did not care for the hash. While it was absolutely real, fresh corn beef, I didn't like the flavor. It was on the sweeter side, and I like mine more savory and with a more charred cook. I didn't eat it. The eggs and pancake were good. I will say their syrup is watery. It is not the thick consistency you would expect from normal syrup. It's better for dipping vs pouring on. I also tasted my sisters salmon cakes and THAT is what I should've gotten - AMAZING! All I needed was a little bit of mustard. The sorbet mimosa was SO good and super refreshing for such a hot morning. Speaking of hot, we are currently going through a heat wave, and it's been 100+ outside for the past few days. With that said, the restaurant was very warm. Between it being so small and the heavy traffic in and out, there's just no way for the AC to keep up. Keep that in mind if visiting on a super hot day. I will absolutely come back. There are other dishes I'd like to try. The service was great and everybody was super friendly! Definitely worth trying for yourself. read more

Customer service was amazing. We were able to sit on the patio. My corned beef was alittle dry and salty but the poached eggs were good. My coffee cup was never empty which was great because I need my caffeine in the morning. The place was very busy. read more
Yum! My husband loves a good breakfast spot and this small diner looked like a sleeper hit from the outside. It was exactly what we hoped. Small inside but a fair amount of seating both at the bar and on the side deck. We didn't have to wait when we arrived at around 9am on a Sunday and easily slid into a vacant table that cleared out just as we walked in. The menu for brunch is pretty large with a lot of options. There are breakfast sandwiches, breakfast platters and scrambles, build your own sandwiches, and a ton of Benedict options (like 6-7) if you like Benedicts. I saw salmon cakes and chicken and waffles as well. I love a solid spot with things to please all eaters. Our waitress was prompt and efficient, friendly and knew the menu like the back of her hand. She easily recommended and made suggestions when asked (like the chocolate chip addition to the pancake platter). My stepson ordered the corned beef hash and it was a great sized portion and looked delicious. He liked it. My husband made his own breakfast sandwich with choices of bread, cheese, eggs, and meat. I ordered the most bc I had just finished a 10k and went with the pancake platter with two large pancakes (add chocolate chips for $1), two eggs cooked to order, a meat, and a side. I chose sausage patties and applesauce and ended up with two huge full-sized sausage patties. It's a ton of food bc the pancakes are gigantic. All for about $12. These pancakes, oh my god. Let me tell you. Delicious. Served with their house-made bourbon pancake syrup and butter and loaded on top with warm chocolate chips but also all throughout the pancakes - delish! Highly recommend. If you are looking for a solid breakfast spot to try out - this is the one. Run, don't walk! read more

I have been wanting to go to Little Dog Diner for a while. They offer breakfast items, sandwiches, boozy shakes, and daily drink specials posted on the dry-erase board, located at the front. We ordered: +The Redneck Express - split buttermilk biscuit topped with smoked sausage patties, hash browns, sausage gravy, shredded cheddar jack cheese, two scrambled eggs, and smoked bacon bits; there is a half portion option; one may be looking for something 'greasy' in this dish, but it actually tasted 'healthy', if that makes any sense +The Crab Cake Benedict - toasted English muffin topped with a lump blackfin crab cake, poached egg, and hollandaise sauce; you can have the crab cake baked, broiled, or fried; I opted for broiled; the crab cake was way too mushy and didn't seem to have been broiled at all; this dish was also served lukewarm, so not sure if this was just zapped in the microwave or just made in advance? The crab cake also had a fishy odor and taste to it, so it didn't seem fresh at all; hot sauce didn't help; wasn't a fan +Fried Green Tomatoes - this was the star of our dining experience! The tomatoes are thick and juicy, breaded well, super crispy, and the Chick-fil-A-esque sauce was a great complement; these were dropped fresh, so they were hot and yummy; should have ordered the full size rather than a tasting! When you walk in, the staff will let you know that you can seat yourself anywhere. While they staff does not hound you to put in an order right away and will give you time, it does take them a while to make their 'rounds' again to return to your table to get your orders or to get the check. I'd definitely return for the fried green tomatoes, but not so much for their breakfast. Awesome! This place is easy to miss if you're just driving by. I've driven by many many times and this is the first time we've stopped in. We will definitely be back! Right now it is open from 7:00 until 2:00 7 days a week. They have breakfast brunch and lunch options. They also have a kids menu early bird discounts and options to go meatless if that is your style. I had the creamed chipped beef on a biscuit with two eggs over medium and tater tots. My wife had half redneck and a short stack of pancakes. Both were excellent! The pancakes had that nice little crisp that I can only ever seem to get at diners. So so delicious! The staff was super friendly and helpful. The food came out quick and hot. Definitely recommend trying this place out if you have not. read more

Don't forget to hit those buttons @ the bottom lol After my first experience, I had to return to try the corned beef. It didn't disappoint! It's so delicious. Also, tried the Bloody Mary, it's ok, checks the block for an alcoholic beverage w your breakfast if you are so inclined. Unfortunately, we didn't have the same waitress. Point taken?? This is a little hidden gem in the Ghent section of Norfolk. The atmosphere was cozy and quaint. The food was good. The blueberry pancake was good but the crabmeat omelette was amazing!! I love real eggs so The scrambled eggs were also good. The customer service was on point (Meredith). Try it. You won't be disappointed. read more

I work in the area and decided to stop in and have breakfast. The food was excellent ( fried green tomatoes, scrambled eggs, home fries, french toast and sausage patties.) Servives was also top notch. They greeted me when I came in and my server (Ally) was attentive the whole time. Definitely old school diner vibes and very clean . We love this little diner, it's a short walk from our house and an excellent place for brunch. The staff is very warm and they are kid friendly. We like to sit on the side porch, which is covered and well-sealed making it comfortable on even cold days in wintertime. They have a great kids selection, and are happy to offer small sides for the kiddos as well. You may see customers dining with their dogs on the porch...they are pup friendly. My girls love to look for the photo of our neighbors' dog on their pup-pic-board. We love Lynn (she's always our server), she's attentive and super friendly. The fried green tomatoes are my favorite menu item...they are thick and crispy and are served with a delicious spicy Mayo sauce. A must-try! read more
