What is a wafflewich you ask? Well let me tell you about this breakfast sandwich yumminess. They take a waffle, add some sausage and cook to a nice golden brown. The waffle is then sectioned into four pieces which are used to replace the bread of the breakfast sammie. Eggs and meat are added to make the wafflewich. A side of syrup is included for dipping. This is the perfect combo of savory and sweet. Soooo gooood! Highly recommend trying this dish. As a person from one of the northern states, I wanted to try some southern dishes. One of which was grits. The server asked me if I wanted cheese or butter for my grits. I had no idea so I asked which is better. Oddly enough I get the one server who does not like grits. Ugh. I ordered with cheese because cheese makes everything better, right? I think I made a bad choice for breakfast grits and would have preferred it with butter, salt and pepper. Oh well. I learned for next time and there will be a next time. I loved my server. She was super friendly and chatted with me in my grits quantry. She did check on me after the grits were served taking a minute to get my opinion on the food and even offered to get me another plate with just butter. I declined. Pops Diner has great food. It's quick, and has really good variety for breakfast and lunch. Kids eat free every day, with the purchase of an adult entree--which is nice. But I will say, over the years they have raised their prices so much that I'm not sure it's "free" anymore. The menu is pretty standard for a diner but I'm sad to report that mimosas are missing. Was on an animals without feet kick diet and decided on the classic two egg breakfast meal. The eggs were ordered and cooked perfectly over medium, fruit and 12 grain toast. The meal was fine but I can't understand why they only serve one piece of bread cut in half. Most restaurants serve up two slices of bread but not Pops. Pop Diner's was opened in 2005 by two brothers who wanted to share the gift of homemade breakfast at any time in tribute to their father, Pop, who was renowned for making an incredible breakfast. The menu consists of breakfast, of course, and lunch items. Despite it being a holiday weekend, we sat down without a wait. I ordered the following: Corned Beef Hash Breakfast Classic Waffle Rump Shaker I requested the chef to grill the corned beef hash twice to give it an extra crispy texture - for a good mixture of salty and meaty. This classic breakfast has two eggs, toast, home fries, grits, or fruit. I ordered the scrambled eggs hard with cheese, a side of fruit, and an English muffin that I didn't even eat to save room for the main attraction - the waffle. The waffle was terrific--soft on the inside but nice and crispy on the edges. It was shaped like a flower, which definitely allows for a perfect crispy crunch in almost every bite. Pretty decent diner spot on a busy road, plenty of parking around the building. The Morning moon sandwich had fresh salsa although it needed some extra hot sauce added to it. You can do grits or home fries which were kind of like a cross between shredded potatoes and little potato chunks. I feel like if you got those potato chunk things extra crispy, they'd be really good. My grits came with a ton of butter on top. Just a heads up. The food came out really fast! I couldn't get over how fast the place served me. They also don't advertise the awesomeness that is kids eat free! Can't beat that. Or the fact they serve alcohol! What?! Mimosas and other drinks. I just had a water because I'm lame! LOL It wasn't super huge in there but you could easily sit 4 to 6 people. Probably some food for vegetarians. Our waitress Lisa very attentive and patient as this was my mom's first time. We ordered coffee, southwestern omelet, and the chicken and waffles. My mom stated the chicken was juicy and tender. The maple apple bourbon syrup complimented the food well. If you're unsure like my mom was ask for it on the side you won't regret it! I had the southwestern omelet with breakfast potatoes well done. Not sure what happened but they ended up really mushy this time and unfortunately there was hair cooked into the omelet. Lisa immediately take the food away. A guy assuming the manager as he didn't introduce himself. He asked how we were doing and if he could get me anything else. Never have I ever been to Norfolk Va. so picked Pop's off Yelp. Small place seats around 70'ish. We came for breakfast, but you can order off the lunch menu too. Our server was training so I had to mess with her. The staff is genuinely friendly and being from NJ that took some getting used to. I got the Meat Lovers Omelette and because we are in the south I had to get grits. Almost got a bagel but because we're in the south I didn't. My wife loved the Cinnamon Roll pancakes, but couldn't finish them so I tried to help. I could have done without the orange cheese on my omelette, but that was my fault. We arrive less than 40 mins before closing and the young lady that greeted us was so pleasant. The restaurant is cute not very big but like a comfort setting. (I did not add salt at the table) Not edible at all, however the server offered to give me another meal, or have the dish remade which is very much appreciated, it shows they care about customer satisfaction. I visited here on a Monday afternoon around 1:35pm. I had no idea how close it was to my hotel when I chose this place. I went to the end of the parking lot to turn GPS on, looked up, and BAM! There was the sign lol. I could've walked lol. I chose this place primary because they were known for their waffles, the pictures looked good, and I wanted to give them a try. When I walked it, it was pretty cold. It was a cloudy day with the outside weather being around 79 degrees. I noticed it wasn't very busy. There were about 5 tables in use. I was greeted and sat promptly. The waitress came over shortly after. I ordered a mango orange mimosa and a water. I received both fairly quickly (1-2 minutes). I ordered around 1:45pm. I got the BMW Waffle combo with home fries and sausage links. Waitress said the combo would be an extra $3. I was thinking about adding fruit on my waffle, but it would've been another $3, so I decided against it. My food came out surprisingly quick, around 1:50pm. I ate the sausage first, which was tasty. It had the perfect crisp when taking the initial bite. Next was the home fries, which wasn't aesthetically pleasing. Personally, they also didn't taste the best plain. For me, home fries makes me think of fried potatoes that are typically square in shape. This wasn't it. It just tasted like potatoes. They tasted 10x better with ketchup. This was until I got halfway through and realized it just wasn't that good. They over cooked pieces throughout and it was nasty. Now to the waffle. It was shaped like a flower. I wouldn't say it was the *best* waffle I've had. The edges in several area were more crispy than soft. Additional, the menu says the BMW Waffle is a "bacon infused waffle topped with maple glaze and even more bacon!", but there was barely any bacon on the inside. I didn't even notice any until I got to the middle, and it wasn't very much. So, this was a letdown. I'm a bacon lover. I was expected to taste bacon in every single bite; bacon didn't even cover the entire top of the waffle. While eating, I overheard an interview taking place. So, Jimmy and Jerry are two brothers who run the business. There is more than one location. The restaurant is named after their father, who cooked in the kitchen. There 22 tables total. I heard, who I assume is the manger, state that everyone runs food and that there is typically 3 servers throughout the week. The highlight of teamwork was good to hear and it was witnessed. There isn't a designated host, so the manager and my server sat guests by whoever was available. Overall, I probably won't return. I just don't see the worth of it, unfortunately. When the server asked if we had any questions about the menu, I told her I can't believe you have a "Thanksgiving" sandwich. She looked at me confused and then said "oh, you mean the Turkey Cranberry Sandwich". I said YES!! She got a giggle to say the least. My husband had the Destroyer skillet. He said it was good, not amazing. He said it was a lot of food, so if you're really hungry thisil breakfast item might be up your alley. I had the Morning Moons Sandwich with bacon strips and cheddar. The server gave me the option of different cheeses to choose from, but stuck to how the dish is described on the menu. It's been week over a decade since I've eaten at a Pops Diner. I have lived in this area about 6 years now and I pass this restaurant just about everyday and finally came here for breakfast. My parents invited me and I can't turn them down ;) Location looks pretty nice on the inside. Some years ago, this used to be a Denny's. Service here was nice and wait was not long for our meals. We each enjoyed a mimosa. My choice was the apple mimosa. It was okay. I wish I had picked a different one instead. For the breakfast I chose the captains omelette. It's described as Old Bay shrimp, crab, roasted red peppers, spinach, and Swiss cheese drizzled with lemon dill sour cream. I chose a pancake for the side. I ordered a side of bacon that I didn't like...it had a weird after taste. Not even my dad wanted it lol not sure what brand it was but I am not a fan. Hot chocolate was definitely made with water so if you don't like that choose something else. Country fried steak was so yummy!! Added cheese to the scrambled eggs. The side of fruit was actually very sweet. Strawberries and pineapple is what the bowl consisted of. They put jelly and jam at the table so you get as much as you want not just one or two dropped off. I will say our booth seats were covered in food from the previous people so we had to wipe it ourselves but I'm sure you can also ask.
