The Leaping Lizard is the kind of brunch spot that you makes you glad you didn't decide to make brunch at home! I visited here a few weeks ago with a friend for brunch and we had an excellent experience. Our server was kind and quickly took our order. Our drinks were delicious! For my meal, I selected the duck hash. It was incredible and as a breakfast food lover it's refreshing to try a breakfast item I had never heard of! After we finished our meal, we headed over to the bakery. All the baked goods looked wonderful. I selected a cookie. It was excellent. Overall, I would recommend checking out the Leaping Lizard for a great brunch spot!

Had such a nice lunch here yesterday with my monthly Lunch Ladies. Pot of Gold Mimosa's were good. Crab quiche is always delicious and love that apple salad. One lady ordered fish tacos, French onion soup, and fresh fish... everything was so good. Be sure to visit the bakery next door, so good.

I went here cuz my fiance told me I'd love it. He was right! It was rly lovely to hear the rain hitting the roof. It's very cozy. I like that the tables and chairs are different. The service was pretty fast once seated. We had ~30 min wait but it was also noon on Sunday so prime brunch time. The crab quiche ($18) was yummy and a big slice! I had to visit the bakery after and so yum, I got the hummingbird cupcake and a meringue.

This review is strictly for their baked goods (dessert menu). I came here to pick up some pastries from the bakery but am told it's closed today. I can order the same from the desserts menu served in the main dining area. I ordered the praline cake and butterscotch toasted pecan cake. Service wasn't as great. I stood there at the entrance for a solid 2 minutes without anyone greeting me or asking if I need to be seated. Then after I ordered, one would think that cutting slices of cake would be quick - not!!! Am hoping the cake slices would make up for the dismal wait.

You're greeted by a happy parking attendant - they actually answer their phone when you call, you can reserve a table in advance, there's a walking trail included in the experience dining here, which is right by the lake, all amazing highlights!!!! The downsides I experienced - There are so many pot holes to drive over in the parking lot,------ once I was seated, service was pretty nonexistent unless I advocated and kept advocating; that was a major disappointment as I love the idea of a farm to table in any aspect- this place has chickens right outside you can see! It might've just been my luck- everyone else seemed well taken care of with like coffee refills etc. we were not given a regular menu, just a drink and a brunch specials, idk if a regular one exists or if you just know you know like a local.... I didn't know... I tried to look up a menu online--- but with kids, that didn't last long- so there I was asking a questions and the server seemed annoyed like yes the kids option it comes with bacon .... I had to ask 2 different people 3 times total for a cup of coffee- yikes. I didn't even get greeted by a server for approx 10 min, so i asked someone and turns out she could take my order-- everyone else got those fly deterrents for their table and we did not, so I grabbed one from a table that finished eating... I have 2 kids and they loved the outside space and fruits as well as the choc chip pancakes, they were a hit! Once arrived, they were crushed by my son and he approved of the bacon. Personally i will not return because it wasnt relaxing trying to get coffee and ask ask ask for napkins and feel like a burden, but the food was delicious and the views were cool and unique to eat next to a chicken coop

I came here for brunch on a Sunday and ordered the crab cake Benedict ($16). It came out in about 25 minutes with two poached eggs, a light salad, and fresh fruit. The eggs were cooked perfectly , salad was indeed very light and refreshing with the vinaigrette dressing. The star was the crab cake, it was so delicious. This was my first time having a real Virginia crab cake and it was pleasantly loaded with a good amount of crab to filler. The bisuit, hollandaise , and bacon were all good compliments to the crab cake. Staff were very friendly and the interior had a seaside bay vibe with its decoration. The only issues is finding parking in the small lot during a very busy brunch time. Overall this was a phenomenal brunch experience that I would highly recommend. This is easily a local's best brunch spots in Virginia Beach! It is decorated perfectly from inside and out & regardless where you sit there is always such a great vibe. The cafe/coffee bar is amazing. They make a variety of drinks and their lattes are exceptionally delicious. They have tons of flavors and they make The food is fantastic! Really love all of their sandwiches and salads. It is prepared quickly even when they are super busy. Another note, they can get busy! Prepare accordingly especially on weekends. Their pastries sell quickly and they have quite the selection. They have a big menu so there is much to try here! Thank you Leaping Lizard!

This place is incredible! Very eclectic and fun! We pulled in the parking lot on a Saturday at 11:15 and it was packed. A "Parking Shepard" directed us to a spot. We were seated within a few min. All staff we encountered were very nice. The atmosphere is eclectic, beachy, and a laid back vibe. So much to choose from the menu, it was a tough decision. We had great cocktails and very fresh food ( the eggs had to have been from their own chickens outback). Several sitting areas indoors, in the outdoor covered patio, as well as outside near the chicken coop and garden. This location a definite must to experience. Don't forget to check out the in house bakery!!

I went here with my lady friends and we literally shut the restaurant down for the day! The food and service were amazing. I had the tuna melt sans bread and it was delish! Our server was super attentive though the restaurant was packed. She mentioned they just started opening on Mondays and were surprised at the turnout. They have various seating options, indoor and outdoors. We dined inside on the enclosed porch area. The potato salad which accompanied my "sandwich" was super flavorful. I also had a cocktail...can't recall the name though LOL. They have lots of dessert options, including some gluten free goodies! I can't wait to go back!!

Oh, my lord!!! It's crowded... and is always crowded here. But today was especially full. We came in for a little snack and to use the restroom, if I'm being honest. But wow!!! There was only seating at the bar, and so we sat. I had a nice glass of noir, followed by coffee spiked with Frangelico. I'm already on cloud nine when food comes. You can never go wrong with their sweet potato biscuits, they're heaven in a bite or two. And while that would have been satisfying enough, we also got a pimento BLT, which came with a slaw made with apples and raisins (I loved the raisins but he hated them lol). And if that wasn't enough food, we also got a cupcake and a slice of cake. To be honest, the cupcake was pretty good, but the chocolate walnut cake was to die for!!! It was like if a brownie and a cheesecake had a baby and then bam!!! The perfect dessert. Great day at this lovely spot. Be back soon!!!

This place was great, from the food to the ambiance and customer service. The food was delicious and actually had taste compared to many of the VA places here. The ambiance was really cute with all the lizard decorations. Cheers for a great meal.

This small restaurant has a nice menu. There is more outside/porch dinning than inside. Went to brunch with my girlfriend.., service was fast. The drinks were on the weaker side. I had the duck hash which had a great flavor and the house made sweet potato biscuit was great.

Why aren't you eating here already? Seriously, every word of this review is just delaying your day from getting better. Cozy and charming, chotskies and cookies, nothing about Leaping Lizard is off except the fact that you're still reading this review and not driving there now. Oh, you're in the passenger seat? Fine. But no side quests. Go to Leaping Lizard. Order whatever fits your fancy. Enjoy. Your stomach, your soul, and your significant other will thank you.

It happened to be Restaurant Week, which made us a little nervous, but it ended up being totally fine. The dining room never felt overly crowded, the noise level was comfortable, and having the Restaurant Week prix fixe, drink specials, and regular menu all available gave us plenty of options without feeling overwhelming. One small note: the plastic logo cups served with the water decanter felt a little out of place. They were a bit sharp on the lips and didn't quite match the rest of the dining experience. Minor detail, but noticeable. The drinks, however, were excellent. On our server's recommendation, my husband ordered the Gingerbread Old Fashioned and I had the Salted Caramel Martini. Both were seasonal specials and both were fantastic. When we asked about the scotch eggs, our server explained they're normally a brunch-only item. We were a little disappointed (and may have made a few pouty faces while explaining we'd come specifically for them for his birthday), but we quickly let it go, it obviously wasn't her fault. What we didn't realize was that she went back and told the kitchen manager that it was his birthday and that we'd made the trip just for those scotch eggs. Since the kitchen wasn't slammed, they decided to make them anyway and surprised us with an order. We were honestly floored. My husband was thrilled. That kind of thoughtfulness is rare. And the scotch eggs were exactly what he'd been hoping for! They were crispy on the outside with a rich, savory center. For entrées, his Nashville Hot Chicken was juicy with the perfect amount of heat without being overwhelming. My Haystack Burger was stacked and delicious, though the BBQ sauce was strong enough to overshadow the pickled green tomato a bit. The fries were fantastic - crispy, battered, and perfect from first bite to last. Our server checked in at all the right times and kept drinks refilled without us needing to ask. The fact that she went out of her way to do something special during one of the busiest weeks on a restaurant's calendar says a lot about both her and the restaurant. Rustic Spoon is the kind of place that works just as well for a casual date night as it does for a birthday dinner or a night out with friends.

We know Uber Eats customer service sucks and it was no different here. I decided to call the Rustic Spoon and the manager identified the issue immediately. Most places turn you away and tell you to deal with Uber but as a reviewer I also love to review customer service. The manager took ownership of the issue and let me know I could pick up the pancakes. When I get there, he was waiting at the front door for me, had my food hot and ready, and added something a little extra for the mistake. My wife loves this place and I understand why. I trained bank associates on customer service and soft skills and if I could've recorded this interaction, it would've been the best training one could offer. We often overlooked how important excellent service is and how it influences customers. This situation turned me into a supporter of this business going forward. Btw my food was awesome and the Apple Pie pancakes were worth it.

Since The Egg Bistro has a HUGE breakfast menu, I'm sure everyone should be able to find something that they will/might enjoy. For my dining pleasure, I tried something new and went with the Bennie & the Grits. This dish piqued my interest because I never heard of grits cakes in the four decades of living on this planet. For about 20 bucks, the dish included three fried grit cakes with ground sausage, grilled shrimp, more sausage, two poached eggs and a side. Although the serving size was HUGE, I was not a bit fan of the dish. Note, I didn't think the dish was prepared badly, I just didn't get the concept of the fried grits (this from a grits lover); however, everything else with the dish was pretty good. The last time I set foot inside their Pleasure House Rd location was at least 10 years ago. I celebrated my birthday there as my friends were kind enough to take me out. It was a Sunday morning and I sought out a place that offered brunch. I noticed 1608 was open and decided to head over, especially since I haven't visited them in ages. When I walked in, I noticed their dining room is dimly lit - much darker than I remember. I was greeted immediately by a kind hostess and she proceeded to sit me at a nearby table and provided me with menus (one food, one alcohol). I took my time looking over the food menu, and in the meantime I ordered a pint of Center of the Universe's Bald Irishman and a bottle of Boylan's Black Cherry soda (they do not have a soda fountain). What made this visit memorable was that 1608's bartender, Hunter, was an old acquaintance from back in my restaurant days. He spotted me and came over to say hi. After my meal, I continued to catch up with him at the bar. His presence made a pleasant experience even more fantastic. I thought I was hungry, so I ordered 2 dishes - Smoked Ham Fried Rice and the Breakfast Burrito. According to Hunter, every item is made fresh in house. After biting into each, you could tell that's true. Both the fried rice and burrito were delicious and boasted lots of flavor. Although I prefer my fried rice a bit simpler (if you give me just garlic fried rice, I am SET), 1608's fried rice (veggies, garlic, soy, basmati rice, 2 runny eggs, smoked ham) had a lot going on, which made for a flavorful dish. I liked the rice and the burrito (Korean style fried chicken breast, scrambled eggs, cilantro lime, cheddar, pico de gallo) a lot. I didn't finish either because it was a lot of food (I really thought I was hungry, haha). But these leftovers turned into a fantastic dinner later on. 1608 looked clean and organized, although I thought it was a little too dark inside, at least for brunch service. That's not a dealbreaker since everything from the food to the service was as excellent as I remember. I hope to return soon with my mom. Regardless, I'll find my way back eventually. Thank you, 1608 Crafthouse! And great seeing you again, Hunter! JV

While I wait, I grab a cup of coffee and something to eat. Most of the time it's breakfast, but I've tried a few different things here and the food never disappoints. I've had the Crabby Benedict, the Sand Fiddler Special (eggs, meat, pancakes, toast, coffee), and one time I had a burger with beef, hash browns, eggs, cheese, and onions - loaded up and really good. The food always comes out hot, filling, and full of flavor. Even the pancakes, which at first looked like they might be the frozen kind, turned out to be homemade with little touches that let you know they care. The coffee's solid too - not that bitter Starbucks taste, just smooth and easy to drink. What I really enjoy is the cook in the back. Every time I come in, he's singing along with the music. He's got a nice voice and it sets a good vibe - not too loud, just happy. Having worked in restaurants myself, I know when the staff is enjoying themselves, it makes the whole place better. You can feel it in the food and the atmosphere. The café is clean, with artwork on the walls (for sale), plus bags and t-shirts since this area gets touristy in the summer.
