Pop's diner is a plain pancake house. The menu has all the standard fare. It's the p rices that chapped my rear. $3.50 for a cup of plain coffee in a plain breakfast joint. Good lord. Soda and Tea were the same price. 3 pancakes were 11.50, no trimmings, no fancy stuff, just a glob of Margerine ( not butter)... that's almost $4.00 a cake. Do you realize how many pan cakes you can make for $4.00. Breakfast for two, $31.00. you can get just as many pancakes for $6.00 at a Waffle House. read more

After we checked out of our hotel we headed here for breakfast as my sons said they were starvingggg! Kids eat free here everyday so that's definitely a major PLUS. I ordered the strawberry & berries waffle, my sons ordered waffles and pancakes, and my hubby ordered the French toast combo. We aLL throughly enjoyed our food and our waiter was great! Pops Diner in VA Beach Va used to be one of my favorite places for breakfast. I would go once a week for breakfast. Not anymore. Went there to eat today. Ask for table by the window. Had a waitress that was apparently new and every other phrase out of her was "no worries". I should have worried. I ordered the a Coke (no Pepsi), no worries said the waitress, the Pops Special with bacon, scrambled eggs, hash brown potatoes, white toast, extra butter and a side order of grits. No worries said the waitress. What she brought me was the Pop Special with grits and a side of of hash. I told her I wanted potatoes, not hash. Again no worries she said but we don't sell hash brown potatoes. I asked for a menu so I could show her the potatoes. The manager came over with the menu and this is where things went south. The manager, a white woman, glasses and a short hair cut and the worst attitude. She said we dont sell hash browns and I said you sell potatoes and pointed them on the menu which was the home fries . The manager with the attitude said but you told her hash brown. I said I didn't want the hash, just bring me the home fries so I can eat (in peace). Thats when things went south. She called me rude and told me to leave because she would not tolerate rudeness from a customer. I left but not before telling her about her attitude. I didn't raise my voice. I just told her thats not how you treat a customer. So if you are looking for place to eat in Virginia Beach, don't go to Pops Diner. Although the food is good, the management stinks. read more

First time at the location. Very friendly staff. The sausage was amazing and the large links. The potato's were a bit too mushy for my liking. The waffles are huge and this syrup for the chicken and waffle was amazing! The grits were great, overall a good experience. Average price is $15. Would go again read more

A bit of a tough call on placing the overall rating on this restaurant that opened a few weeks ago. Most know this location as a Denny's. Pop's Diner has a few other locations. I have been to the Chesapeake business twice with favorable experiences. The location is on busy North Hampton Blvd in front of the newly remodeled Best Western. The road visibility is awesome! The signage could not be better. The lot has the correct amount of parking for the dining room size. I found the front of the business to be free of debris. I was impressed with the fresh exterior paint over brick. The entrance is all glass, so be prepared for a cozy green house feeling. Let's get to what's great, the space. I think there is a lot to be proud of in the transformation of the building. The interior was completely gutted and the dining room space reduced from its former business from what I'm told. It's bright, but no direct sun spots I found due to shades. The paint and large subway tile offers a modern gray, off gray contrast. Lots of booths which is a plus. A hostess stand is up front to check in. The specials board is in this area. Today I was greeted pleasantly by two young females. I first used the restroom. I found the lavatory carried the same theme of colors and subway tile. One stool and one urinal. The flooring tile is a multi color bead and looks marvelous. All the proper supplies were present and everything worked as it should. When I arrived back to the booth a menu was placed on the table with silverware. The business had a few customers on a mid week day morning. Both waitresses got drink orders. I suspect training was taking place. A special was offered, however I went with a blueberry waffle combo, eggs and bacon. I asked for butter and powdered sugar. A coffee was place on my table as well as a warm syrup, nice touch. The two staff were great! A male waiter was seen cleaning. The coffee was passable, nothing special. Food hit the table within 10 minutes which is fantastic! The male waiter expedited. However, the waffle had no butter, or powdered sugar. The two ladies spotted the error immediately and corrected. The male waiter apologized and said he was new. No big deal and I was impressed how it was so quickly handled. First impressions of the dish was that the blueberries were canned and they looked gross. After cutting into the waffle I found it prepared softer than my preference. It did not help that the blueberry juice soaked it. Over easy eggs were prepared correctly. Bacon was not edible and hard. I was willing to forgive the waffle and try to get through it. When the waitress checked in with coffee I asked for fresh bacon. Another round of bacon was out quickly with the same issue. I then asked if it was microwave bacon. Per the waitress it's pre cooked, then warmed. I pushed my half eaten plate away and asked for the bill. The waitress without asking said she would take the bacon off the bill. A nice female manager came out and apologized and said the bill was adjusted. Still stings to pay $14 for coffee and eggs. Pop's offers a good size menu that includes breakfast, lunch and dinner. Also their biggest draw for families "Kids eat free all day, everyday". This may be a reason for a return visit in the future, but I will not be in a hurry. 2.5, rounding down. read more

I called and ordered food from this place on Saturday 11 may. got there received my food, when I got home and took the food out the bag it did not smell right after opening the boxes I called the restaurant to let them know what happened I was told to speak to the manager on duty SHE said to bring the food back and SHE will see what she can do about it. , I told her I think it is the hashbrowns that was bad and SHE should not serve this to anyone else but SHE didn't seem to acknowledge what I was saying I decided to throw the food in the garbage and just move on with my life my point is just be careful purchasing food from this place. read more

Pop's is a cute chain breakfast and lunch restaurant. Very personable and great for families. The staff is very friendly. I've been to this location a couple of times and I've never had any issues. Pretty crowded on the weekends but the wait times are not long. Our food came out pretty fast and it was hot. They are known for their waffles (not pictured but very delicious)! KIDS EAT FREE EVERYDAY!! It's not the worlds greatest breakfast but there are so many options you're bound to like something. I keep going back because it's a great place to go to enjoy food and family. read more

I ate at Pop's 3 days in a row while I was in Norfolk. Once for breakfast and twice for lunch. Each time service was great! Food was awesome! I had cheeseburger, BLT, waffle, eggs and gravy and biscuits. I will definitely make it my place to go to when I come back to Norfolk. read more

I'm not going to crush them all the way, but my girl ordered this food so Idk what you want me to tell you. She didn't enjoy her food at all. She didn't eat any of it besides the pancakes. I ate all my food on the other hand, it was decent to say the least. It was something to eat I guess, I ordered the skillet, but this is what I got. Yea my girl was pissed, waste of money for her and she was still hungry. So we ended up getting more food from somewhere else. This place I'm sure has good food, but they will drop the ball. My girl omelet had some dry piece of cheese on top of it. I thought my food was suppose to be sizzling, but it was pretty dry as well. I was hungry and had to go to work so I just needed something on my stomach so that's why this spot got 2 stars. read more

This place is worth the trip! Here in Norfolk on vacation and we will be back again (1x? 2x?) before returning home. I clicked too fast as they DO serve alcohol 10 years running for Best Waffles and it's no lie. We had breakfast orders plus shared the Berry Burst waffle (it was So difficult to decide!) and it was heavenly! Berries were big and flavorful- unlike many you can get in restaurants. Waffle batter delicious I &had an omelette made to order- big mushroom pieces, onion sautéed per request. Sister had sausage links that were delish, fat, thicker links with no fillers. The cottage fries included bits of onion and cooked in bacon grease, but they were Not greasy. Just tasty! Decor is simple - like a diner but cool textured subway tiles, simple light fixtures and paintings. Our server Danielle was fabulous! Pleasant, professional and attentive. Prices moderate range, $13 for my omelette and the waffle but worth every penny! The restroom was clean and decorated just as nicely. I finally had a chance to stop in here recently while on the way back to Chesapeake after leaving the parents place. I popped in during the middle of the afternoon, around 3pm and was greeted immediately and shown to a seat. Even though it was the middle of the afternoon the restaurant was about a quarter full. I have to say this is the first time I've been in this building in years. Last time I was inside here the place was called Kettle, and since then it was a Denny's for a while. Obviously the place has been completely redesigned since then, however I could swear that the dining room is actually not quite as deep as it used to be, though I may be wrong. One of the things that stood out to me as well as it's not quite as homey inside as the other 2 Pop's locations. Instead of the warm yellow colors wood accents this place is like a sterile white. It really reminds me of being in the lobby of a hospital. Again that's not a bad thing, but to me anyway, it's kind of a cold inhospitable design. I digress. My server came by with a menu and was very friendly. I knew what I wanted without even looking and ordered a club sandwich with fries and off she went. After a short wait the club arrived and my plate overflowing with the sandwich and fries. The sandwich was delicious and was exactly the way I expected it. My server, who was attentive throughout the meal, offered desert which I had to decline and we wrapped up the bill. I'd say my total visit time was a 40 minutes give or take. Nicely done. read more

The first thing that intrigued me was the outdoor restaurant signage that read "kids eat free all day". Nothing excites a parent more than seeing that. We went in on a late Saturday morning and were seated immediately. The service was excellent, we were greeted right at the door by the host and server. Our food came out very quickly which I was thankful for because I had a very hungry kiddo. I can't say enough how good the food was. Everything, especially the potatoes were delicious. I wish there was a Pop's Diner closer to me in Hampton. I will absolutely return if I am ever in the area again. You know it's good when my picky son actually finished his meal. This is the best family friendly be brunch spot I have been to in awhile. And best of all, I didn't have to wait a long time in a crowded restaurant. read more

As we were having breakfast, everything was going great until it looked like the buss boy approached a family with a child who was having a small melt down and told them to keep quiet. Clearly, the boy seemed to be within the spectrum. Family ended up leaving because the buss boy kept being hostile and walking by their table. It is sad to see that the restaurant didn't take the adequate step to keep the boy away and make the family comfortable at a FAMILY restaurant. Very disappointing as this was going great. read more

Just left Pops diner in Virginia Beach as I was visiting family. The food was delicious until I found a hair in my omelet. Politely and discretely I informed the waitress and she took the food. When the bill came the waitress stated she took off 10%. When reviewing the bill she took 10% off of just my meal which was approximately 1$. When speaking with the manager she stated the waitress stated she "didn't see" the hair. And therefore couldn't comp the meal. I find this inexcusable and terrible customer service. I will review this restaurant in every possible socal media and online platform. read more

We have dined at the other two Pop's location and we were happy to see a new Pop's pop up closer to our house. This location is very close to the Diamond Spring/Northampton intersection. You can't miss the Pop's sign on the front of the building. The inside of the building feels much smaller than the other locations. The walls are stark, perhaps more décor is on the way since they have only been open just more than a week. We were greeted immediately by a server with a big smile. I was pleased that the seating at the booths was the proper height. Often I find the bench to be too low leaving my chin on the table. A slight drawback is the music. It sounds like it's coming from a radio. Nice choice of music but a better sound system would be a. plus. Our server, Courtney, was delightful. Her timing was spot on with our table and others that she was watching. She took our beverage order seconds after we were seated and her and her co-workers kept those glasses filled. I love when servers cover for each other. At one time two of them came at the same time with refills. Note that their website shows alcohol is available but it's not. Only at the Greenbrier location. Our meals were very good. My buffalo shrimp salad was beautiful. The greens were dark, the shrimp while small were tasty and there were fresh avocado slices on it.
