Visiting Norfolk and found a lot of great reviews on Vang Go. Glad we tried as food here is great and service friendly. Vang Go is a small cozy place with a bar. I would characterize the food as street/comfort food as there are items like different types of Asian dogs, tacos, po boys, kimchi fried rice, etc. They have a sampler course but we decided to order a la carte. Love all of the dishes we ordered and need to come back to try the ones we missed.

Phenomenal food!! Super nice service! Our server (The owner/manager? ) was behind the bar when we walked in and he greeted us with a warm welcome and said we could pick our table. The atmosphere is perfect for the style and flavor of the food. Everything we ordered was full of flavor and made fresh to order. We ordered one of each "rolls" to start and was informed that they would probably come out after our other plates, the chili garlic noodles and the chili chicken dumplings, because of the prep and cooking time. We were even informed on the spice level, and when the rolls did arrive, to wait a min or two because they would be very hot inside. Our server was very attentive and kind. We ended our dining experience with the Bavarian cream churros....OMG! Delicious!!! Everything about this bistro was sooo good!!

We traveled from va beach to add a new spot to our belt. We walked into a fun atmosphere good music, indoor and outdoor seating on a beautiful day. The menu they are still expanding but they have a dish for 2 called The experiment for $71. The cooks get to pick your dishes all of which we got were amazing. He gave us items that we probably wouldn't have ordered on our own. They started us off with a cold cucumber salad and a cold fermented bean sprout salad. Then we got the hawk wings, and crispy vang rolls, kimchi dog, salmon croquet sandwich, and ended with a ube brownie with whip cream. Well worth the money as we are both leaving full. They also have happy hour. Oh and we found out that the experiment food changes they say you will never get the same thing when ypu order it.

Vang's Bistro was such a great find, especially for the value. We grabbed a couple of beers and went with "The Experiment," which includes three appetizers, two entrees, and a dessert for around $50, and honestly it felt like a steal. The apps were excellent. We had the Vang's rolls, Brussels sprouts, and tots topped with what tasted like ground beef or lamb, and each one was flavorful and well done. For entrees, we went with the wings and the chicken red curry noodles, both of which were satisfying and packed with flavor. We finished with the churros, which were the perfect way to end the meal. Service really stood out too. Lauren, our server, made my birthday even better by bringing the churros out and making the moment feel special without being over the top. Great food, great value, and genuinely welcoming service. We'll definitely be back.

Service was amazing. Our waitress greeted us immediately when we walked in and had us seated in less than 5 minutes. She stayed consistent with her service throughout our visit. The space is small but clean, With a tv for viewing and mostly 4 person table/booth combos plus a few 2 person tables. Our group of 4 loves trying a bit of everything, so when the waitress mentioned their "The Experiment" meal, we knew it was perfect. We ordered 2 "The Experiments" to share among the 4 of us. The menu explains it as is: Throw caution to the wind and let us make you a sampling of some of our signature dishes Be sure to let us know of any allergies or other dietary restrictions Intended for 2 people for $59. So for $118 dollars before tax and tip, we were served 12 items from Vang Go Bistro. I noticed that 3 of the dishes received are not listed on their menu (4 if you count the Pickled Bean Sprouts which appear online but not in person). Because several dishes arnt listed with prices, I couldn't precisely tally the value, but based on what was on the menu, that total came to $91. I had hoped the Experiment would include something from each section--one snack, one noodle or rice dish, one sando, one dog, one taco, and a dessert and that the two Experiments would differ. Instead we received: 2 dogs, 2 noodle/rice dishes, 4 snacks, 3 vegetable sides, and a dessert. I was really hoping to try a sando and taco, so that was a bit disappointing. Now, for flavors because Vang Go Bistro has a ton to offer. Out of 12 dishes only 1 was a true miss for us. Here's the breakdown: 1/5 Spicy Peanut Noodles $15: Our waitress said this was her fav item. Sadly, the dish lacked both spice and flavor. The noodles were overcooked and mushy. This was the only dish wasted. 4/5 Crispy Kimchi Dumplings with side of kimchi $12: Flavorful, nice texture, not oily. Good but nothing unforgettable. 4.2/5 Chili & Chicken Dumplings $12: Great flavor, great texture, mild spice. Perfect for someone who can't handle heat. Would order again. 4.6/5 Kimchi Fried Rice $15: One of my favorites. Packed with flavor, perfectly cooked, and tender meat. This was the spiciest dish we tried, a "lingers in your throat" heat. Amazing for me, but intense for two friends who don't love spice. Still, they kept eating it (with lots of water refills). 4/5 Crispy Vang Rolls $6/2: Crispy and tasty, but not memorable. Sauce wasn't for me. 3/5 Vegetable Spring Rolls $5/2: Crispy outside but the inside texture was too slimy and lacking in flavor. 5/5 Kimchi Dog $10: Absolutely incredible. The bread is like giant Texas toast. Buttery, crisp outside, soft inside. The hotdog had a great snap, juicy but not oily. Their kimchi on top was perfection. I'm still thinking about this one. 4.5/5 Asian Slaw Dog $12: Same base as the Kimchi dog but with coleslaw. (I want to return just to try their chili dog) 3.5/5 Greenbeans (not on menu): Good texture with crunchy peanuts on top, though light on flavor. 5/5 Brussel sprouts (not on menu): Shockingly delicious. I'm not normally a Brussel Sprouts person, but these were roasted perfectly and served with a sweet tangy sauce. I'd eat these daily. Please give me the recipe because I'm craving them already. 5/5 Churro Donuts with Rasberry & cream cheese sauce (not on menu): Warm, soft, and incredible. I would have ordered another round if we didn't have to leave. 4.6/5 Pickled bean sprouts $3.51 (online menu): I really liked these, crunchy, tangy, refreshing. Their drink menu is solid, plenty of options including mocktails. I tried the Sumin Sweet ($14) which has Captain Morgan spiced rum, Malibu rum, pineapple juice, and orange juice. I expected it to be sweeter but it was actually pretty mild. I'd order it again. Overall, dispite a few misses and wishing the 'Experiment' selection had more variety, the flavors were fantastic and I can't wait to come back to try more of the menu.

Wow. If I could leave them 10 stars, I would. If you've never been, stop what you're doing and go here NOW. This showed up on one of those Yelp lists I get in my emails and I told my husband about it bc I saw the dumplings which are his favorite thing on Earth. We came on Saturday for lunch and there was only one other table and a man sitting at the bar. We were immediately and warmly greeted by the friendliest guy who made us feel so welcomed and at home the entire time. He paid attention to us, refilled drinks, was so polite and just overall friendly that you felt like you knew him. We started with the Chili and Chicken dumplings which is a generous portion (like 15 or so) tossed in their chili oil. Delish! Hot and fresh and out quickly. I wanted to try the Peanut Noodles but, since hubs ordered the dumplings and we'd had pasta the night before - I went with a taco instead. I chose the Mojo pork taco and it was amazing - I inhaled it when it arrived - could've probably eaten 2-3 since they're single serving but we also ordered two Andouille Empanadas and those were HUGE. Really hot and fresh as well and loaded with the sausage and rice. My husband ordered one Jerk chicken taco and also loved it - but said it had some heat to it! They had a spicy chicken sandwich, kimchi rice, two noodle dishes, hot dogs, more tacos, chili truffle fries and some cream-filled churros calling my name for next time! You can tell everything is made to order, and made in-house, and made with love. The food was amazing, ambiance was nice (bathrooms were spotless), and service was the best I've had in years. We will absolutely be back. I want to try everything and I want to support this business.

Crispy Vang Rolls with Hawk Sauce. Deeeee-licious :)

Sophia and I had lunch at this spot on Norfolk over the weekend. After checking them out through Friday Flavor where they opened up this Summer at the former Streats after their owner sold the business. The backstory was inspiring and the food looked really good. So you know trying them out was inevitable. Let's see how this visit turned out. We were greeted by the staff once we walked inside. The decor is spotless with artwork all around with pictures with owner Evan Vang with family and associates. From looking at each photo, you can tell the cool vibe transitions to the restaurant itself. Even the bar looked really neat. As far as traffic goes, we were the only ones inside and a group of 6 or 7 dined outside. More attention on us definitely. The food itself....pretty damn good. The Crispy Vang Rolls....perfectly cooked and full of flavor. Their Hawk Sauce was wonderful with some spice. Trust me, you'll get hooked. Kimchi Fried Rice...very, very good and spicy indeed. When your mouth goes on fire, you know the staff did their job. I had roast chicken as the protein which was the perfect choice. I ended up taking some home and it tasted exactly the same. Once again, Channel 13 spotlighted another wonderful spot. Just great all around. This will definitely be a repeat for us :)

I've been to the Vang Go Bistro a couple of times now and the food and service have not disappointed at all. The food is always good, and the service is too. On this last trip I took my wife and we ordered The Experiment which is designed for two and it allows you to experience a random experience recommend by the chef. Each dish that comes out is a surprise, and they were all great. Unfortunately due to my enthusiasm, I neglected to take pics of the whole ensemble of dishes. We started with the Chilli Truffle Fries, which are excellent. Crispy and topped with delicious topping that go so well together. Then we had the Chilli and Chicken Dumplings, really good but I prefer the Kimchi Dumplings (had them before, not included in the experiment this time). Next up we're the Vang Go Rolls, which were delicious with the dipping sauce. Next was for me the star of a great line up, the Kimchi Hot dog. I wouldn't have thought this would be as good as it is. All the flavors combine so well together. At this point we thought we were done as we were both full, but out came the Shrimp Tempura Taco and Elote (grilled corn on the cob). We ate these later in the evening at home, and both were great also. The ambiance is chill and welcoming. The bar is solid, and drinks are good. I had the Oolong tea Old Fashioned and my wife had a Berry Bourbon Sour. Both well made. This is now one of my favorite spots. Legit, and highly recommended.

Upon arrival, I was greeted by a nice young man. I perused the menu and waited until someone could take my order. The wait time for placing and receiving an order was average. I ordered the vegetable spring rolls and fried rice. The spring rolls were very flavorful and delicious. The rice was a bit dry and over seasoned. The art on the wall added to the ambiance.

Saw the Muni Muni club was in collaboration and doing a filipino themed after party drink menu. It was a super quiet and out the way little bar that seems to be frequented by regulars as the staff seemed well acquainted with all who walked in. We ordered : Ubetini - Noticed she put a concoction of Rumchata, coconut water, Ube halaya, and sprinkles of the Ube wafer rolls. (There may have been more, but this is what caught my eye as she was mixing) Noted*this was a secret menu item. Martini's are my absolute favorite so this was 10s all across the board like a dessert in a cup. Prickly Mango - Reminiscent of Guava nectar juice. Very refreshing to sip on throughout the night!

Would have given 5 stars but can't ignore the service that was a tad left to be desired. As soon as I entered and indicated I was by myself (not waiting for anyone), a group of 4 were served their drinks, chef even came out to chat with the group but waitress (who doubles as bartender) just then went to the table next to me with 2 people when they came in after me!!!Maybe it's the non-potential for higher tab because I didn't order drinks....??? Towards the end of my meal which I didn't finish, the waitress asked if I needed a box and the check; whatever happened to "would you like to order dessert"? I felt i was being rushed out of there. Ambiance is great. Akin to a converted garage that with the front door and glass panes leg a lot of light through. Large bar with what seems to be wonderful source of booze concoctions. I ordered the kimchi fried rice with my choice of roast chicken. A couple of suggestions: the rice could be less greasy and the roast chicken was shredded which makes it nearly imperceptible to taste among everything else in the fried rice. The proportion was off, maybe just minuscule diced instead of shredded chicken would at least visually convince us that there *is* chicken in there! I actually even asked for the dessert menu (even when I wasn't offered). Only the churros was available so I did order it. The churros wasn't filled with cream, it was just sprinkled with light cream alternating with chocolate syrup. The churros, while a large serving, was tough , not light crispy as I enjoy at other places. Maybe it was an off day...

Delicious!! Every weekend, I drag my husband out of the house, to try a new place, and this time we went to Vang Go Bistro! I am a foodie, but my husband is kinda basic (also known as picky eater), HOWEVER, we found a place that we both love! Love the cool, artsy vibes inside. The staff were so friendly. The menu is interesting, and as a foodie, I always look forward to try something new.If I could, I would order everything on the menu. But alas, I can't be greedy. We ordered: Crispy Vang rolls - delicious! Elote - my husband is obsessed with these! Chilli and Chicken Dumplings - LOVE! I thought we would not be able to finish them, but who are we kidding? We devoured them! Spicy Peanut Noodles (with ground beef) - my husband's order. He loves it. I'm jealous. I took a bite and it was amazing. I want more bites. Oh well! Kimchi fried rice (with roasted chicken) - Another love. The kimchi is subtle and not overpowering . Perfectly seasoned as well. Will definitely come back to try out the other dishes on the menu!

Cute little shop with red doors not far from Ghent. Service - yes! We were greeted and seated immediately. The waitress was knowledgeable and had great recommendations. We eventually decided on sharing "the experiment" x2 for 4 people. It was so much food! Not only was it super yummy but it was also very filling. I want to share - I highly dislike Brussels sprouts but there's were really good. I would like to know their recipe so I might actually eat them then. My favorite items would be the hotdogs. I am SHOOKITH on how good both the bread and the dog were. Honestly just about everything that came out was delicious- the only thing I feel fell flat were the spicy peanut noodles. Compared with the other food, it was bland and a bit soggy. The eggrolls were good but skip the side sauce. Highly recommend the green beans and the raspberry donut things. Honestly, I would reorder the Experiment so you can try a bit of everything. We had drinks too that were yummy but definitely a 1 and done - something to sip throughout the meal. Mine tasted like Christmas called "Key to my heart". Go try them out and try something new!

There's now a security table/desk where the DJ booth used to be; definitely wasted space where more tables and chairs could've been added instead. Had to stand for about 10 mins before some people finally left then we had to like "hurry" to get the seats before anyone else got them. We needed an extra chair at our table and went up to the security to ask if he knew where anymore could be or if we could borrow the one that was behind his table since he seemed to only be standing all night, but he responded kind of harsh with a stern "NO"....def unnecessary. Even though he was rude, the bartenders were the opposite, making funny light conversation and friendly while we ordered and waited for our drinks. The atmosphere was a nice, chill, and intimate vibe, with red/orange lighting. To drink: I tried the Saturn (8/10) it was pretty good, I liked the flavor, but there really didn't seem to be much alcohol in it fr. To eat: we ordered a Margherita Pizza and added Pepperoni (10/10) it was fresh, flavorful, and all around really good. There were hints of spice in the sauce that really added to the flavors. Their pizza seems to be a popular menu item as I seen pizza boxes on almost every table throughout the night. Def will be back again, but next time, we're going to get there early, so we can have a table for the night. Looked like once people secured themselves a table in here, they held it all night long and never moved / left till closing. My overall rate of experience : 7.5/10

The menu does change each time they do come so items that you will see will vary, depending on what they are putting on for the menu. We try their Sicilian sashimi that was definitely a 10 out of 10 and good for people that want to kind of share rather than have a full plate is definitely well proportion as well as light and not too heavily in on the pallet. The vibes vary from day to day depending on what time you get there it can get really packed so the earlier the better if you want more of a calm night I would suggest getting there early rather later cause that is usually when the dj that are going on that night come in that's usually there peak time. The drinks are well crafted I tried their cocktail called Saturn it had a sweet taste and was more of tropical with the passion fruit perfect pairing with the raw fish dish we tried tonight. You order at the register, and the staff brings the food out to your table. Everyone was attentive, and we had no issues with the service. We ordered the waffle plate, which came topped with fruit alongside eggs and their house sausage. We also tried the Huevos Rancheros, the Sausage Egg & Cheese sandwich, and a build-your-own omelette. For drinks, we ordered the brown sugar cold brew, dulce de leche cold brew, drip coffee, and an espresso martini. The waffle was huge, and the sides were great. My only complaint was that it could have used more fruit, as there were only a few small pieces. The Huevos Rancheros were delicious and came with a generous serving of avocado. The only thing that caught us off guard was the lack of salsa, since in traditional Huevos Rancheros the salsa is a key component. Even so, the dish was still flavorful and filling. The omelette was excellent, and the breakfast sandwich was equally delicious. I was especially impressed by the house-made jam, house-made hot sauce, and the perfectly seasoned home fries. As for the drinks, the brown sugar cold brew was excellent, but the dulce de leche version was far too sweet for my taste. From what I understood, they use two flavored syrups to make it, and I think using smaller portions of each would create a better balance. We ended up adding oat milk and some drip coffee to tone it down. The drip coffee itself was solid and came with free refills. The espresso martini really tied brunch together for me -- strong, well-made, and delicious. Overall, we really enjoyed both the food and the experience, and we'll definitely be back.

I ordered the Noco. This dish is served with one piece of French toast cut in half, two meat s of your choice, eggs, choice of bread and choice of potatoes, grits or something else (can't remember what). The bartender didn't ask me what my other choice of meat was and when inquired he said "I just put you in for two orders of sausage". I thought was odd because I would have preferred the two selections. I did ask if one order of meat could be substituted for fruit, but he said that was more a side with the meal. Another thing that was odd is that I asked for the eggs to be scrambled hard, they were not. I cannot eat soft scrambled eggs, something about the texture just doesn't work for me. Although I will eat an over medium egg, either way that wasn't what I asked for. I will say that the bartender was friendly and that the patron who was sitting next to me was also friendly. I will probably give them another shot but maybe for dinner instead.

Bartender was incredibly attentive for having a full bar. We each had 2 different cocktails and both were distinctive and excellently crafted. We had shared a couple of the small plates and enjoyed them both. We enjoyed the place so much that we decided to come back with a group of 14 for All Lovers Eve. Second time: Made the reservation with ease. If you've ever made a group reservation you know how complicated some places make it. This was a large group and they were short handed. This lead to a slower service which actually worked out well for our group. We didn't mind the gaps. They put us in their back room (hint - GREAT for groups) there was a little confusion with the order to include an extra dish we didn't order. We still ate it and paid for it though. The staff was great with our large and rather disruptive group. The food was all excellent (local oysters on the half shell and the apple desert were my highlights). Multiple cocktails that were all wonderful. My only real negative was that there was a $50 "loyalty club " charge that was never mentioned and I didn't even notice on the $1200.00 bill. This is, I believe, some sort of credit card fee. Both times were good. Both times staff were wonderful. Both times we were comfortable. Give the place a try. I don't think you will regret it.

We had an awesome waiter. Judging from his accent, he was from Ireland. He was great. Very enthusiastic and attentive. I was pretty hungry. I ordered the crab cakes (great sauce and aioli), Brussels (hot honey with goat cheese and cranberries), junglebird drink (delicious, it wasn't overly sweet), and ribeye. All delicious. I was not disappointed. It was such a chill place. It wasn't overly loud. It was clean. I recommend.

It's the kind of establishment that understands both execution and consistency--two qualities that are increasingly rare and always appreciated. The shrimp and grits remains a signature highlight. The Creole sauce offers a restrained heat, balanced by a layered depth of flavor that speaks to careful preparation rather than excess. The shrimp are properly cooked, retaining a delicate snap, while the stone-ground grits provide a well-seasoned, creamy foundation. Each component is thoughtfully prepared, and together they form a cohesive dish that feels both composed and satisfying--an authentic nod to Cajun tradition without unnecessary embellishment. Gershwin's stands as a reliable fixture in the downtown dining scene. For those seeking a refined take on Southern and New Orleans classics, it is well worth the visit--and a strong example of the quality found within Norfolk's local restaurant community.

If this restaurant was in an area that was even moderately competitive they would have been put out of business. The bar seems adequate but it was almost like they stopped serving food and forgot to tell anyone. I swear I'm not making this up, this actually happened: 1) it took over 2.5 hours for the entrees to come out. One came out so early that by the time the second set came out they were already done. 2) The only appetizer that was ordered that actually came out, arrived after the entree was done. 3) One person's order had to be changed 5x because the waiter kept coming back to say they're out. When his pork chop finally arrived, it was undercooked and not eatable. 4) Nothing was offered in any way as a comp, nor any real apology If you go, be wary. There is no way they were this thoroughly incompetent in every single aspect of the food services industry without practice.
