Loveee loveee loveeeee this place! This is my go to happy hour spot (happy hour is everyday from 3pm-6pm) on drink and food specials. The service from EVERYONE (owner included!) is amazing, the bartenders makes the best drinks and the food is delicious! The ambiance is nice - perfect for a girls night/ family dinner/etc. On weekends (Friday & Saturday) they have live music perfomances that start at 6pm and then a dj from 10pm-2 am it is a great time with no cover charge

This is probably the best Caribbean food place I've eaten ate in years and in the 757. I have to admit I was doubtful as I haven't had any good Caribbean food lately but this place has changed that. The jerk wings were good and seasoned well. They're dry not wet but you still get that full jerk flavor. The cabbage was actually good. It's usually watery in most places but they nailed it here. The mac and cheese...it's usually the biggest let down but again, they got it right! Nothing dry and brick shaped but creamy and cheesy. Now the jerk steak was something I was truly worried about but the waitress assured me I wouldn't be disappointed, and she was right. While it's not something I would want on a normal occurrence, I have to say it's a twist on steak and one that I wasn't mad at. Again the jerk flavoring was abundant and really made the steak stand out all by itself. The scenery isn't much to talk about but there's plenty of seating even though the place looks small. Try this place out if you're looking for a little Jamaican flavor.

I've been to Cutlass Grille several times, and while it's definitely one of those places with great food and a fun vibe, I'd say the experience can sometimes be hit or miss--for me, at least. My friends? They love it! They always have a great time and say the food is consistently excellent. If it wasn't a bit pricey, they'd probably eat here even more often. On this visit, I ordered the Rasta Pasta with shrimp, but I honestly didn't care much for the taste. However, when I took a bite of my friend's beef ribs and paired it with the pasta, that combo was perfect. The beef ribs alone (which come with two sides) ran about $44, and the Rasta Pasta varies depending on the protein. With shrimp, it was close to $30. The plantains were okay--not my favorite this time--and the cabbage lacked seasoning in my opinion. I can only speak for my own taste, though. Everyone's palate is different! As for service, you could tell the staff had been working hard all week. Some seemed a little tired, but that's understandable. One thing I really appreciated was this one particular guy who's always upbeat and friendly. Even though he wasn't our server today, he still made the effort to stop by and check on us. That made a difference. The decor has a true Rasta/island feel, which I love. The crowd is usually friendly, and the overall atmosphere is always welcoming and laid-back. Would I go back? Yes. But next time, I'm skipping the pasta and going straight for the beef ribs--those were a winner! #CutlassGrille #ChesapeakeEats #JamaicanFood #RastaPasta #BeefRibs #IslandVibes #FoodieReview #FoodieInVirginia #HamptonRoadsEats #RestaurantVibes #HitOrMissButWorthIt #SupportLocalRestaurants #FoodWithFlavor #RastaDecor #DiningExperience #FoodieFavorites #PlantainsAndPasta #BlackOwnedRestaurants #GoodEatsVA #MissysFoodJourney #SandraLeesFoodJourney

My take out pork chop with collard greens

Came here twice to get food as the restaurant is really good and they are one of the best restaurants close to my hotel. I tried to come here a third time but I think they were closed due to the heavy snowfall and the fact that the parking lot was not plowed very well. The interaction with the staff (hostesses and register) have been very good and friendly. Although the inside of the restaurant looks really upbeat and fun, they are really busy inside and I rather eat back at my hotel rather than eating alone at the restaurant so I only order takeout. For food, I tried both the rum glazed pork chop and the oxtails. The rum glazed pork chop is large, perfectly cooked, and delicious. The oxtails which are one of their specialties disappointed me, too small, a little tough, just not enough portion size in my opinion. Taste was ok but I think I will stick to the pork chop. The only sides I tried was their collard greens and boy is this a winner! I really love their collard greens and they give a very generous portion which is awesome. This is by far, my favorite restaurant I have found so far on this trip and I will definitely be eating here again as it is close to the hotel and so delicious.

I have been twice before here, but not on a Friday, where there was a live band. The band was great, food, and ambiance was great. Service was good. I'm going to keep it short, since I have already reviewed this establishment, but I found an aluminum wire in my leftover mac and cheese the next day (leftover for lunch). It looks like stainless steel scrubbing pad. Also, the women's bathroom was atrocious. Toilet paper on the floor, non flushed toilets with #2 inside. I almost lost my appetite. Managers please keep up with the cleanliness and safety. I would like to come back again for the food.

Came here on a Saturday night. Was definitely expecting live music, but they didn't have any. I'm weary of Caribbean restaurants because I'm used to authentic food and not being served just anything basic. Anyways I ordered the rum punch, it was sweet as expected. My friend ordered the beef patties, they were ok. We kept looking at the menu and nothing really stood out to us. We compared the menu with the Yelp pictures and decided not to eat there. As a jerk pork lover, I was disappointed in the cut meat that they used. It just wasn't for me. But the place is nice, the bartender was pleasant and you can tell if there was live music then it would be a vibe.

I went and sat at the bar. The bartender was very nice. I ordered the rum punch and the mini beef patties. The rum punch was ok. Tasted more sweet than anything. The mini beef patties were excellent! The filling was pouring out which I appreciated. I would definitely like to check it out on a Friday when they have the DJ in there. However the music they were playing was nice.

My wife said this is the nicest looking Jamaican restaurant we've been to in the US. Yes we travel quite often to Caribbean and Jamaica. And I would agree with her. Now to be honest, we had the coconut shrimp appetizer, which was OK. Had the jerk shrimp taco, which was exceptional. But that was nothing. I ordered the brown stew snapper fish And my wife ordered escovitch fish. Now she said hers was really good. But my brown stew fish reminded me of a trip we made to Port Royal Jamaica about 10 years ago. In Port Royal they literally caught the fish, brought it to the kitchen and cooked it. This tasted similar to that. Perhaps the best fish I've had in the US at a restaurant in over 30 years. Will certainly come back.

I try to go visit Cutlass Grille everytime I come back home to Virginia as it's one of my favorite Jamaican spots in the city. I love the new larger location at Greenbrier. One thing about Cutlass is that it has weird hours. The hours on the website differ from the hours on Google, and both differ from the hours posted outside the restaurant on its front door. The day we went, all three happened to be wrong as the restaurant decided it was golden to close early that night. First recommendation is to call before going to ensure it's open when you get there. Luckily, we beat all 4 closing times. We sat at the bar, which was relatively full. The bartender was nice although at times it seemed like she could use some help. When we went to order drinks, the first 2 drinks we wanted to order the bar was out of the ingredients (it was 8:30pm). We ended up with a punch that was pretty good. We ordered the jerk lamb chops as an appetizer. 2 of the lamb chops were perfect, but the 3rd was thicker than the others but was cooked the same amount of time, so it was basically raw. It was so raw we couldn't eat it and just pushed it aside. For entrees we ordered curry goat and stewed chicken. Both were fantastic, as usual, along with the sides. The portions are good and the meat was flavorful. We had no leftovers and left pretty satisfied. Overall, I'm happy I came and brought someone else with me for their first visit. I'll be back, but I hope the hours get consistent and for the price of the lamb chops, that all 3 are edible. I still highly recommend!

Came here on Sunday for lunch. I sat at the bar and Jennifer was my server. She was great. Ordered a Free Verse hazy IPA form Virginia Beer Co. On this occasion I ordered the Jerk Lamb Chops appetizer. If I had ordered it with a side it would have been enough for a meal. Five stars, it was absolutely amazing. Enjoyed the reggae music and the island vibe. Got to come back here when I'm more hungry.

An awesome birthday dinner with a lovely live band. The ladies of the band sung a beautiful "Happy Birthday" with a remix. Then there was Sherry our lovely waitress. The atmosphere was live and mature for a Saturday night. The food was just as expected...DELICIOUS!!! Thank You

    Rasta Pasta with chicken

This place has an excellent rating for a reason, delicious food and great service. Okay that's two reasons. Went there with some coworkers, we started with charbroiled oysters. They were delicious, had a good amount of cheese which we liked but just be aware. We had some frozen Bob Marley drinks which has rum but is on the sweet side, again very good but beware if you don't like sweet drinks. One of my coworkers had oxtails and thought they were great. Another one had the beef ribs with Mac n cheese, clean dish no complaints. I had the Rasta Pasta with chicken. As you would expect it had a little heat to it, pasta was good, chicken was tasty, overall a very good dish. If you're in the area give this place a try, seems like the best spot of many decent ones.

It was brand new & the woman tending the store was friendly, energetic & passionate about the food she was serving. I ordered jerk chicken but she insisted on letting me have a taste of everything on the menu. Everything was delicious & I now had a new obsession- the sweet coco bread. For years after that whenever I was around I would pop in. I've since moved to GA and been living here for almost ten years. Any transplant will tell you sometimes only family & food keep you tethered to your home state. So happens this wknd I was in town for my sisters wedding & got my hair done a couple blocks away from Island Krave. As she finished up I placed an order on Uber eats, really excited for this meal- something familiar & missed. To see how the quality & care has declined truly hurts my heart. The portion of meat they served me was actually disrespectful to people who work hard for their money & choose to support a small business. These pictures are after they added some. If you're going to chop it to smitherens you need to measure it out to ensure the portions make sense. Anyone that cooks can tell you this is a thigh at best. & this is a $17 plate. I don't want to talk down on the place too much it's just sad how much of a let down the entire meal was after I felt like they threw my stuff together thinking it was being delivered and they wouldn't have to look me in the face. The Mac was good & the flavor of the chicken was as well. Cabbage mushy & salty. Rice is not yellow. & apparently $5 gets you one slice of coco bread now (I got two bc of my troubles, ha!) Idk I hope they can figure it out but personally I would never spend another dollar in this place.

The ordering process was quick and easy, we used their computer screens to put our orders in. Not too bad of a wait for our food. The staff were very communicative on our food status while we were waiting, which I appreciated. My order included an Afro pie (7.5/10), I absolutely loved the sauce it came with, but I do feel like the meat inside and pie itself was dry. Sautéed green beans (10/10). Chicken Egusi soup w/ pounded yam (9/10), the flavors were amazing! I loved how savory it was; however, I do believe they switched the spice level of my soup with my sisters because I asked for none-little spice, yet my soup tasted like it was their highest spice level !! I had to keep taking breaks while eating because while it did taste really good, it was also so so spicy! I really did enjoy my meal, despite receiving the wrong spice level in my Egusi soup. Every bite tasted like the chef stood over the plate whispering, "You deserve this." Bold flavors, perfectly cooked, plated like it was about to audition for a food magazine. Now why four stars instead of five? Because I have trust issues. And also because the food came out so good I now have unrealistic expectations for every other meal I will ever eat. That feels like a burden I wasn't prepared to carry. Service was friendly, attentive, and didn't once make me feel bad for asking, "What's that?" three separate times. Water refills were prompt. Smiles were genuine. No one hovered. No one disappeared into the void. Would I go back? Absolutely. Would I recommend it? Yes. Would I pretend I discovered it before it was cool? Also yes.
