I love and hate that this place has live music. It's nice because it's always nice listening to live music. But for goodness sake, take a break from time to time. It's loud enough that you can't hear yourself think in here, but a bit of a break would be nice. The service is good but the late night food takes forever. And here comes the music after a very anorexic break. Damn!!! Back to not hearing myself think. But as others reviews have said, their feedback comes across as rude and unprofessional. My wife and I went to Froggies to listen to some live music. They had the Tidewater Bluegrass band playing. The band was great! We ordered some wings, fries, salads and an appetizer. The food was all good. The service was attentive. I think the only down side was they don't have a military discount. It turned out to be fun evening. read more

Since I was craving wings on the 4th of July, I was hoping I could find a spot that was open and lo and behold, I stumbled upon Froggies. Thankfully with it being a holiday, it was pretty empty so we were able to be seated right away. Our server greeted us and took our drink order. I grabbed a Margarita (of course) while my friend ordered the Grapefruit Crush. Unfortunately, they ran out of crushed ice so the Grapefruit Crush didn't quite have the typical 'crush' taste that we're used to which was a bummer, but it tasted fine. The menu had so many great options. They even have fried Frog Legs lol! Since the Lumpia was apart of the Happy Hour, I decided on those along with the Dirty Garlic Parmesan Wings and the Jamaican Crazy Wings with a side of fries. The food was served fairly quickly and it was piping hot. The Lumpia tasted okay, they were crispy and fresh. The Jamaican Crazy Wings were pretty good but since they were a dry wing, I added some of the Froggie's bbq sauces to add some flavor. The Lilly Pad bbq sauce with the Jamaican Crazy Wings were a 10/10!!! The Dirty Garlic Parmesan Wings were my favorite! They were saucy and flavored very well. Overall, Froggie's definitely has a nice vibe and the wings were great. First time visiting and would not recommend. Ordered the app Micro Trio. Brisket was cold & dry, the ribs were warm but very overcooked & dry. they were out of pork and substituted bbq chicken with out asking me what I might want...and that was cold to the touch also. Seemed like everything but the ribs was pulled out of the fridge and put on the plate. Told waitress about the food as I really only took a couple bites and she offered to do something. I told her I wasn't worried about the money they just need to do much better. read more

$8/ tap beers are a little steep for me. They have great live music just always a little loud for me and hard to have a conversation without yelling, but good if you're there to dance a little bit. Stopped in for lunch after a morning swimming in the ocean at Virginia Beach. I had a 1/2 rack of ribs, the pork meat entree, and an order of lumpia. Sides were fries and coleslaw. The restaurant was clean and neat. I sat inside but the do have some outside seating. The server was quick to come to the table and brought my water and draft beer fairy soon after ordering. There were a few other people eating as well. It doesn't appear that they smoke their meat and lean into brines and topical seasoning. The ribs were nowhere near "fall off the bone" as a knife and strong arms were needed to separate them. The pork was cool when served and again had no smoked taste. Fries and coleslaw average. The lumpia tased nice, but were small and fairly thin. Seems like a nice enough place I was here once before for a John Prine tribute on his birthday). 3 stars ONLY for Rueben sandwich... I've been dozens of times, primarily to listen to the live entertainment tonight was the third time I've eaten there, I'm learning their portions are very small. Not great at all. I get that there's a place in this world for a dive bar. But these guys are basically phoning it in on that basis. Decor was dive bar. Staff was friendly. Food was terrible. House-made chips for the nachos was a nice idea but poorly executed. Chewy, overly thick and unseasoned. The chicken atop the nachos was possibly from the day before: dry and not that good. Today 7 July 2024 went to Froggies on Shore Dr. VAB, server, Savannah, was very pleasant, even though we switched tables, restaurant was empty, not a big deal. Our food was amazing until my son chewed on a hair when eating a chicken wing. At that point my friend said she found a hair too. I was still fine, my Cubano was delicious until I chewed on a piece of something stiff, not pliable like sandwich meat in my mouth. Took it out and found it was a stiff foreign item, plant looking. Later my son said he found another hair on his chicken wings - really. I told Savannah, for their sake, Froggies needed to know. Later she came back and said the owner in all their years have never had anything like this happen. We paid full price, gave Savannah a 20% tip, would have been 25% if i hadn't found the stiff plant. Long story, short, will NEVER, EVER return, though I loved my Cubano, just not a fan of finding inappropriate stuff in my food. FYI the ambiance was great, except for the lack of people, maybe others had found hair in their food too but never told the owner. I told Savannah we would pay for our food, I was only telling her to let her know, this was real, we didn't try to scam them. They could have been nicer, but instead, made excuses. Everything is a train wreck. We got there on a Sunday about 3pm, and were originally the only people on the deck. There were 7 of us (my son and his wife, her parents, her Aunt and my husband and I). I am an Elite Yelp member and often check in; especially at new restaurants. When I checked in, I saw that I could get an appetizer for 50% off. I ordered a half pound of steamed shrimp ($11) from the appetizers menu, since there was a coupon. My son and his wife pulled up their Yelp app and got the same offer and ordered the same. When it was about to be brought out, they informed us that the Manager said that they'd never heard of such a coupon, and would not honor it. We both said to cancel the shrimp then, as we were only ordering it because of the coupon. It was an official Yelp coupon from the company. But okay...whatever. So they called the Owner, who said they would honor one coupon per party just this one time (even though we were 4 checks), which was no problem, because we wouldn't even consider coming back. My son repeatedly said to cancel his shrimp appetizer, and my husband and I went ahead and took ours, since they were allowing us to use the coupon. They brought out 2 orders of shrimp. My son said, "We said that we didn't want ours". She said, "Well it was already cooked, so instead of us tossing it, you can just have it". We started looking over the menu. My son said, "Sides are extra". I said, "No, fries are included. Premium sides are extra". We were confused. We looked over each other's menus. Half of our party had menus that stated fries were included and half of us had menus that stated no sides were included. Once we brought it up to our waitress, she clarified fries were in fact included. Two hours later, we finally got our food. We were told the power went out. It was a hot sunny day, so I'm not sure how that happened, but I guess it's possible. Oddly enough, the music still worked, which blasted nonstop, and at deafening volumes that we repeatedly requested that they turn down, even a little, as we screamed across the table at each other, which they never accommodated. The food...the shrimp wasn't that good, so we ended up not eating it all. Our dishes from our appetizers sat and sat, our waitress came and went and kept our drinks full, but the dirty dishes sat. Finally I said, "Can you please take these?" Flies were all over it. My son ordered a pulled pork sandwich with fries, that was massive and packed full of meat. He thought that it was average: not the best that he's had, but not the worst. My daughter in law did enjoy her Beyond burger and mac and cheese. However, her mother thought that her chicken was undercooked. Her father ordered the jalapeno poppers and fries, and they brought him out cold fries and at the last minute, notified him that they didn't have the jalapeno poppers. So he had nothing to eat. My husband and I ordered the Cuban and split it. It literally had maybe a tablespoon of pulled pork on it, and the ham was so thin and almost nonexistent, that I had to pull the bun back, because I thought that they'd forgotten to put it on. We were so hungry after waiting 2 hours, we just gobbled it down. When they brought us our food, they asked if we wanted condiments. We all requested ketchup for our fries. They literally brought one tiny condiment cup of ketchup for the entire table, and said that they ran out of ketchup! What kind of restaurant runs out of ketchup? Folks, I couldn't make this up if I tried. When the check finally came some 30 minutes after we'd finished eating, I saw that our coupon for the shrimp had not been applied. Same with my son, who had repeatedly asked that they take it off, but was told that there would be no charge. The waitress said that the coupon will be applied when she runs the card. Umm no. I don't pay a check unless I agree to what is written on it. My daughter in laws father was charged for the jalapeno poppers that he never even received and cold fries, which he never ate. The owner Bill came over to see what the issue was. We all, mostly out of frustration, started explaining our situation starting with the shrimp appetizer. The OWNER said, "Well, there's the problem! We don't even have shrimp on our appetizer menu!" I had to show him his own menu to prove that there is in fact shrimp on the app menu. In the end, Bill fixed the checks. The jalapeno poppers came off, that weren't ordered, both half orders of shrimp were comped, as well as our Cuban sandwich, which we appreciated. I was going to add a star, since the Owner did in fact make things right, to best of his abilities. But then the Owner's wife responded to another of our parties Google review quite rudely and unprofessionally, so in the end, my first impression stands. This place is shady. I highly recommend staying as far away from this place as possible. read more

Someone told us Tuesday was jazz night so we decided to arrive early and have dinner so we had good seats. It took over 30 minutes for our appetizer to come out. It was okay but the main course (ribs - the ones from Teeter Harris are better) weren't great, my salad was wilted, and the zucchini was inedible. If you just want something light...pair a cold Bud Lite alone with their fried catfish bites, lumpia AND flavorful wings. The atmosphere of this place was bomb and our writer was even better. This is a fun little joint which has great barbecue and frequently has fabulous live music. The interior is clean and open with fun frog decorations. Service is usually prompt. The smoked chicken is amazing--flavorful and very tender. We've also enjoyed the ribs and Beyond Burger. The cornbread is fresh and delicious. I enjoyed the Mac and cheese but my dining partner felt it was heavy. The green beans were a little over cooked and underwhelming. I also didn't enjoy the crab hash as much as I thought I would. They often have good desserts. We've tended to come on Wed nights when they have rotating traveling blues bands or a local blues jam, all of which have been great fun, and they've had some really great bands come through. Occasionally people are inspired to get up and dance. There is a small outdoor patio for warmer weather. We'll continue to come here for great food and live music! read more

We wanted to eat local so we walked over to Froggies. We started with the potstickers for appetizer ( very small un-sharable portion and tasted familiar, freezer bag vibes for sure.) Felt guilty for not warning the table next to us when they ordered the same appetizer. For main course we ordered burgers and they were cooked exactly as we asked! The " onion rings " were very sad, I felt very sad- before ordering I clarified with the server who said they're pretty much onion rings... they were just a sad fried mush pile. Went here last night for Navy patching party. It was a great time. They have nice selection on draft, i had amazing blackberry cider. Wings were on point. Froggies does great bbq. Let me say that again: Froggies does great bbq. The menu is very creative, but it all comes back to the bbq. My first time there I had the pulled pork platter, which was an overflowing mound of succulent pork done just right. The two unexpected surprises during that visit were the garlic green beans and lumpia. The green beans were incredibly tasty and seemed to go perfect with the pulled pork an baked beans. (Who knew!?) The lumpia appetizer is the real deal. While it's not a standard item in a bbq joint, this is a Navy town where good lumpia is worth the trip by itself. I went back to a Froggies the next day and tried the loaded fries topped with brisket. Excellent. Not too much fat and an incredible seasoning that made the 'appetizer' into a very satisfying meal. The loaded fries were a smaller portion than what you would expect on the side of a burger and only three jalapeño poppers . It all tasted good tho so we didn't see a need to say anything. Then the bill came. $9 for a regular draft beer!! $8.50 for an orange crush that was mostly ice!!! SHADY OWNER! They had a $20 beach parking sign out front, so I parked, and as I was attempting to pay, the owner walked out and said he is changing the parking to $50. So much for high demand, premium parking. I almost took pictures and videos, but the guy was such a D'bag, it actually caught me off-guard. Though he may provide a childish retort to this (seems as though they comment on everything to attempt to bully or save face), we'll never go there, I'll encourage all of my friends not to go there, etc, etc etc. So yes, losing a customer here or there may not matter to him, but its his staff that is losing out on every one person that doesn't go there, ie- We went directly across the street to a much nicer owner and staff, which we'll continue to do. Delightful honky tonk dive bar. The place has 2 small bars in a split level space. A bunch of bars tables are also available. The place is right out of a redneck (in a good way) movie. Full of locals who were accepting this New Yorker sitting at their bar. A classic rock band was playing and the drinks were flowing. We ordered a "mini trio" at the bar along with Mac and cheese and fries as sides. The trio came with a small rack of ribs, a piece of brisket and pulled pork, all in a nice rub. The pulled pork was slightly dry but the rib and brisket were delicious. Prices were very cheap. They had 7 beers on tap and a bunch of bottle/ can options. Wow!! The Full Frog, for only $35 when I'm writing this comes with ribs, chicken, pulled pork, brisket, fried catfish, two sides, and three homemade barbecue sauces. The service was great and fast considering they were PACKED Saturday at 9 pm. I would recommend making a reservation nights they have live music, but we were still seated very quickly. We chose outdoor seating last night, they have a lovely tent with plenty of tables that are very spaced out. Good BBQ spot that recently had a remodel which has the place looking and smelling super good and clean. Staff does an excellent job as well ensuring everything is clean. As for the food did a couple tacos - late night menu, one pork and one chick. Both were really good. You can smell the BBQ outside walking up. Staff was super nice and attentive with great personality. The beer options were good as well with multiple options on tap (in excess of 10 I believe) along with a decent selection of bottled and canned beer. If you're looking for a little spot to eat good BBQ that's not expensive I'd check this spot out. read more

I went to Froggies with a group to eat dinner and see Anthony Rosano Trio. The staff seemed to be shorthanded and overwhelmed. I can understand that since the restaurants are fully open after the pandemic. It is a very cramped place for a band. Meaningful conversations can't take place unless you go to the outdoor seating.
