We had gone here a few times for more of a bar/nighttime experience. There's plenty of bars to choose from inside so the service is always pretty quick. They rotate djs/bands so the music can vary. The one time we went we loved the DJ and weren't big on the band, but the other time we didn't like the outdoor DJ but liked the indoor dj. The good news is there's plenty of options! read more

Friday date night, place was packed but we were in and out in under 70min. Orange crush and Chicks cerveza were cold and refreshing. Hush puppies are my wife's must have (3.5/5 stars, $8); they aren't piping hot so the cold/hard butter didn't play well. 3 tuna tacos w sweet potato fries were as good as my wife remembered (4/5 stars, $25). My shrimp tacos were insanely good and packed to the edge of the flour shell (4.5/5 stars, $18). Great service from our trainee waitress (and mentor). read more

Had dinner here this past weekend. Had some fresh raw local oysters that were great to start off. I ordered the Costa Rican tacos and she had the Monterey Sunset salad with shrimp. Tacos were best I've had in a while with fresh tasting flounder. Service was great as was the view. Local institution. read more

Food is decent, views are amazing, and a kind staff. Been here numerous times and always have a good time, but the food and drinks are crazily overpriced. I recommend checking it out, but for the area there are similar places around that don't charge you an arm and leg. read more

Great food, great atmosphere on the water, great service. My lady had crab cakes dinner and I had lemon salmon. Both very well prepared. Will definitely go back. read more

We had a great experience overall! They had complimentary valet parking, which was a nice. The valet staff were friendly and efficient. it was very crowded for a Thursday afternoon, the restaurant had ample seating and we were seated immediately. Our server, Aura was fantastic. We initially ordered the Orange Crush but forgot to mention we wanted it without alcohol. Despite the mix up, Aura quickly and kindly replaced our drinks with the non-alcoholic version, which turned out to be delicious for the hot weather. For appetizers, we had the hush puppies and fried calamari. The hush puppies were very good, but the calamari was quite rubbery and tough to eat, which was a bit disappointing. For our entrée, we ordered the firecracker shrimp tacos with fries both were excellent. The tacos were flavorful, and the fries were perfectly done. Our food came out quickly, and Aura continued to check in on us throughout our meal, which we really appreciated. Even though it was a hot day, we still enjoyed our time outside thanks to the great service and good food. Would definitely come back, especially for the amazing Orange Crush!! Much appreciation to valet parking staff!! read more

Wow five stars for a delightful ocean-front spot that features fresh seafood, good drinks and the most chill vibes. I arrived in town and my coworker said we must go to Chick's, so off we went. We were seated inside, but the plethora of windows makes it feel like you're outside even when you are not. First order of business - ordered an orange crush. I had never had one of these, and it was delish. Fresh squeezed OJ, Orange Vodka, and crushed ice had me feeling like I was unlocking vacation. I also opted for fresh oysters. I had never tried these two varieties and I enjoyed them. We also split calamari. We didn't eat a full meal here because we had our eyes on trying multiple spots, but I could definitely see myself spending an entire day here crushing those cocktails or beer and eating fresh seafood. Service was friendly and attentive. I can definitely see this spot getting packed on a beautiful day. On a lovely Sunday afternoon it was pretty full, especially the bar. The parking lot is also huge and valet only, so keep that in mind when visiting. read more

Never been here but always drove by and saw how busy it was. Got done working in a Friday and the weather was nice so I suggested my wife that we get dinner overlooking water. Valet only which was convenient, had our name on the list so we were sat immediately, we sat overlooking the water inside looking out at the sun setting and a nice breeze. Waiter was very friendly and she even stopped to share how gorgeous my wife looked. Food wasn't bad, loved how they had oyster shooters. Got the tuna bites, raw oysters, oyster sandwich and burger. We noticed that the fries were really good. Would definitely come back just for the view and service. read more

It was such a refreshing surprise. We had to kill some time before we checked into our hotel. The Oysters were delicious and fresh. And they were the perfect size. The view was gorgeous. A great place to chill out. And our server was so polite. I had 2 of their crush cocktails and they really hit the spot. I was hoping to go back but we ran out of time. read more

Chick's Oyster Bar - Drinking a crush cocktail on the outside patio, watching the water activities. Chilling out. - Seafood Near Me - Virginia Beach, Virginia

Valet parking only. This is always a busy restaurant so they have a hostess as soon as you walk in. Pretty good service. The food has always been great. Crab dip is my favorite. The shrimp are really big and never disappoints. We have had burgers, they were ok. We have had a variety of food over the years. Some great and a few things that were so so. And a few times the bathrooms were a mess. I love the different bar areas and the view is wonderful. Last time we were there we watched dolphins in the water and a beautiful sunset. If they would keep the bathrooms cleaner on a regular basis, I would bump up the stars for sure. read more

Had really high expectations, but kind of tuned out to be ok. I think the most annoying part is that the food was not bad. But from the temperature of some of the food items, it did not seem like the food was freshly made. The best part was the fried calamari! Delicious with the fried pickles and jalapeno, it was so good!! it was definitely fresh! The hush puppies however were not that great. They were cold and definitely not fresh. Same for our food, the shrimp dishes were absolutely fresh but the fish dishes were cold! Like stone cold! So was the crab cake which was supposedly blackened, which would mean it would be burn-the-mouth hot. The warm bread pudding was not warm. The ice cream on top did not melt. It was like in totality everything just made the whole experience just sort of meh. It was a busy night but just did not feel like much thought was being put into how the food was dished out. read more

Stopped by Chick's today with my colleague for lunch. Chick's is an established restaurant known for its seafood. I tried the blackened tuna sandwich. It was tender and of good size. Served with delicious crunchy fries; the way I like my fries. My partner had fried oysters. She enjoyed them. This restaurant is located right off the Chesapeake Bay. They have a fully stocked bar. We had a good waitress. They take credit cards. Plenty of parking. Worth stopping in Chick's. The restaurant is nice but not overly fancy. A good place to enjoy seafood. read more

My rate is purely for this place as a bar nightlife vibe, I consider this the big three for the area in terms of going out on a Friday or Saturday night but for the love of god can yall put like two more fans in the dj and area where people dance it gets too hot once we're all drunk at 12 read more

Probably one of the best places to be if you're a seafood fan like being by the ocean and enjoying some good drinks. Especially good because of the breeze and the open deck if you prefer. Service was on point point. Props to Faith for checking up on us and making sure my first time here was exceptional. Good vibe here too. I can see how it gets packed and parking was super easy with the complimentary parking. Literally sprinting around to get your vehicle in 94° weather and humidity. If you're going to get the tacos you're definitely going to need some napkins as they get a little juicy but I stuck with some oysters on the half shell, super fresh and with a crab cake which I had grilled. I would probably get it fried next time. Everything was on point start to finish. read more

We absolutely loved the food, ambience, and staff at the oyster bar! We had some concerns about meeting a group of friends there when we pulled up to valet parking and had our dog in the car. Valet drivers were great directing us to park in a prime location on this cool night and they even took the time to confirm with management that the dog would be allowed on the back deck. We joined our party who had already been seated with pup in the car. We had fresh oysters and delicious wings that had an amazing mango habanero sauce. They had an excellent hazy juicy beer along with the signature orange crushes that everybody loved. As our friend group began to thin out, we decided to ask the waitress if we could move our table onto the back deck where we could bring the pup after a quick word with management we were allowed to bring our dog to our table without moving. I highly recommend this amazing restaurant and staff! read more

Service was not that great- girls that seat everyone were busy talking and giggling. Our waitress took drink and appetizer order but had to hunt her down to take the food order. Service has definitely declined over the 40 some years we have been coming to Chicks. The signature calamari is not good- used to get a lot, batter was light and it came with banana peppers. Now batter is heavy comes with jalapeños and not near the quantity. Used to be the best in town now maybe a 5! Very disappointing! And used to come with lava sauce now you have to ask for it ! Shrimp was good and atmosphere was good especially for the kids! Just work on getting that calamari better read more

Local Va Beach resident. Been to Chick's dozens of time. Went to Chick's yesterday to watch the Men's World Cup Semi-Final game (you know the biggest sporting tournament in the world) England vs. Argentina. Pretty good size crowd in Tiki Bar area. When we asked the bartender if should could turn on the audio of game coverage, she asked manager. Manager said "No, it's not an NFL game and US is not playing, so no audio". This is ridiculous. We left and went to Shuckers, they had game on numeous TVs with the Audio playing. Fail by Chick's manager. Do better, know your customers. read more

This place has an atmosphere of being in an old fishing shanty... without the smell. Food was decent but not great. I had Mahi (I know, not regional!) that was cooked well, but a small portion. Fries were typical frozen variety that are a bit crunchy on the outside. Broccoli was big, but mostly inedible stem once it was cut. I'd likely go back to give them benefit of the doubt, primarily because location was beautiful and staff was attentive and polite. Food was a bit overpriced. read more

Chick's Oyster Bar is everything you want in a seafood shack! The fried shrimp is absolutely incredible--crispy and perfectly seasoned.Pair it with some fresh oysters or a cold drink, and you've got the perfect meal by the water. What makes Chick's even more special is their strong support for the military. It's clear they value and honor service members, and that gives the place an even warmer, more welcoming vibe. The servers and bartenders were all great that I interacted with and very attentive. The atmosphere is exactly what you'd hope for in an oyster bar--casual, fun, and full of coastal charm. It's the perfect spot to relax with friends, enjoy great food, and soak up the laid-back waterfront vibe. read more

The fried fish comes soggy and warm...not crispy......every time. It's more of a bar scene vs good seafood.

The food was not good. I ordered the Costa Rican soft Tacos, the flounder was medium cold, and ordered the sweet potato fries and they were as cold as if they were removed out of the refrigerator. Service was mediocre, as she only stoped once or twice. We were the first customers to arrive so there were not that many people there. read more

Parking- super convenient with valet not missing a beat 5 stars Getting seated in an area we prefer is always 5 stars The environment and energy/views 5 stars Let's talk about the food- my husband and I typically are creatures of habit. I LOVE raw oysters and think there is nothing better than cold clean oysters with a skinny orange crush or a dirty martini. We attempt them every time hoping for a better outcome. It is VERY sad they preshuck the oysters and leave them to shrivel. They're never cleaned left with so much grit and grime. Our last attempt had the LONGEST HAIR WRAPPED AROUND THE OYSTER. how does that even happen? Bang bang shrimp tacos are great. No complaints. Calamari is very basic but not bad. Sweet potato fries are always good. Drinks are decent. read more

I love going to chicks on the weekend and grabbing some crushes, the only gripe I have is with the DJ he actually plays good music but it ruins the whole vibe when he hits the spinner or scratches the record during the best part of the song and ruins the vibe . read more

Chic's Oyster Bar is... fine. The food is decent, the setting is nice. It's a bit expensive, but that's expected for oysters and waterfront dining. What sank the experience was the astonishing rigidity. My meal came with a small piece of cornbread. My wife politely asked if she could also have cornbread. Not extra. Not free. Just cornbread. This was refused. We were told cornbread can only be served with certain meals and cannot be purchased separately, as if it were a rare mineral governed by strict international treaty. No flexibility. No exceptions. The cornbread supply must be protected. My wife is Italian. In her world, bread is not a luxury item or a controlled substance. When she asked for any bread, she was offered hamburger buns and charged for them. Hamburger buns... To complete the experience, a 20% automatic gratuity was added, ensuring we tipped generously while being told that a small piece of cornbread was fundamentally impossible. Polite staff. Okay food. An oddly dystopian approach to bread. read more

I was visiting the Virginia Beach area for work and my co worker recommended we go to Chicks for lunch. We pulled up and it was nestled right not he water, it was a gorgeous view. They valeted my car and we were sat indoors with a view of the bay. The service was slow, we had to flag down a waitress for some menus. They're known for their crushes so I decided to go with their orange crush and I must say It was delicious and refreshing. The used freshly squeezed orange juice as well, I definitely had to order a 2nd. As for food I went with the fried oysters with two sides of green beans snd sweet potato fries. All I have to say is OMG! The food exceeded my expectations. I definitely recommend visiting Chick's if you're in the area. read more

I will most likely not return. The food wasn't "nasty," but it definitely wasn't good or worth the cost. The only thing I enjoyed was the popcorn shrimp, which tasted like they came straight from a bag, so that explains it. The fries were actually good. No complaints there. I remembered this place being amazing years ago and always difficult to get into, but that quality is gone. The "Mediterranean salad" was a 0/10. The 1 lb of steamed shrimp was just okay. You could tell the shrimp weren't great quality, they were soft and lacked firmness. What really concerned me was the chef repeatedly coming out of the kitchen coughing openly without covering his mouth. It's flu season, and if that's how he behaves in front of guests, I can only imagine what happens in the kitchen. Overall, it seems like this place now caters mostly to locals who come to hang out at the bar, not for the food. It's just not what it used to be. read more

Great food and drinks and gorgeous view of the water! We go every time we're in the area visiting family.

The flounder dinner shouldn't be $30. It was slightly overcooked which made the fish a little mushy. The green beans were some of the best I've had - perfectly cooked not too soft or hard. The skinny margaritas and orange crushes are my favorite. Shrimp are good as well with celery and carrots! Bartenders are nice. read more
