    Virgin orange crush

We had a great experience overall! They had complimentary valet parking, which was a nice. The valet staff were friendly and efficient. it was very crowded for a Thursday afternoon, the restaurant had ample seating and we were seated immediately. Our server, Aura was fantastic. We initially ordered the Orange Crush but forgot to mention we wanted it without alcohol. Despite the mix up, Aura quickly and kindly replaced our drinks with the non-alcoholic version, which turned out to be delicious for the hot weather. For appetizers, we had the hush puppies and fried calamari. The hush puppies were very good, but the calamari was quite rubbery and tough to eat, which was a bit disappointing. For our entrée, we ordered the firecracker shrimp tacos with fries both were excellent. The tacos were flavorful, and the fries were perfectly done. Our food came out quickly, and Aura continued to check in on us throughout our meal, which we really appreciated. Even though it was a hot day, we still enjoyed our time outside thanks to the great service and good food. Would definitely come back, especially for the amazing Orange Crush!! Much appreciation to valet parking staff!!

The food was great, sitting on the deck was just excellent. Nice weather and cozy. The waitress was so polite and funny. A great night out

Drinking a crush cocktail on the outside patio, watching the water activities. Chilling out.

It was such a refreshing surprise. We had to kill some time before we checked into our hotel. The Oysters were delicious and fresh. And they were the perfect size. The view was gorgeous. A great place to chill out. And our server was so polite. I had 2 of their crush cocktails and they really hit the spot. I was hoping to go back but we ran out of time.

Never been here but always drove by and saw how busy it was. Got done working in a Friday and the weather was nice so I suggested my wife that we get dinner overlooking water. Valet only which was convenient, had our name on the list so we were sat immediately, we sat overlooking the water inside looking out at the sun setting and a nice breeze. Waiter was very friendly and she even stopped to share how gorgeous my wife looked. Food wasn't bad, loved how they had oyster shooters. Got the tuna bites, raw oysters, oyster sandwich and burger. We noticed that the fries were really good. Would definitely come back just for the view and service.

Probably one of the best places to be if you're a seafood fan like being by the ocean and enjoying some good drinks. Especially good because of the breeze and the open deck if you prefer. Service was on point point. Props to Faith for checking up on us and making sure my first time here was exceptional. Good vibe here too. I can see how it gets packed and parking was super easy with the complimentary parking. Literally sprinting around to get your vehicle in 94° weather and humidity. If you're going to get the tacos you're definitely going to need some napkins as they get a little juicy but I stuck with some oysters on the half shell, super fresh and with a crab cake which I had grilled. I would probably get it fried next time. Everything was on point start to finish.

The fried fish comes soggy and warm...not crispy......every time. It's more of a bar scene vs good seafood.

Ask the Community - Chick's Oyster Bar

    Is there dancing?

    No there isn't

    Do they take reservations?

depends on the day, like on saturday it's packed but if you show up with your party they will seat you. They've seated my party of 18 before on a busy saturday night. best thing to do is just call and ask.

Are there heaters in the outside dining areas?

    Is this place Pet friendly?

You can definitely have your dog on your boat (you can drive up and eat on your boat). I don't believe pets are allowed inside, though.

You would never suspect the great atmosphere of this venue from the location. But the charm of the place really isn't the story. This is the kind of place that offers a gastro pub menu and they do not disappoint with a familiar yet unique menu offering some truly great dishes and perhaps the best burgers in VB. Our first table ended up being under a spotlight that was directly in our line of sight (it looked like it was meant for the specials board), so we asked to move. Staff was accommodating and got us to a better table quickly. The space itself is really nice. It was clean, rustically decorated, and the live plants in liquor bottles on the tables are a nice touch. Our server was friendly from the start and took drink orders right away. My daughter and I had sodas, and my husband ordered the Southern Charm Old Fashioned off the specials menu, which he enjoyed. The menu is on the smaller side, which we actually like. One unique detail was the option to "buy a round for the kitchen," which we thought was a really nice touch and decided to add it when we ordered our appetizer. We started with the fried deviled eggs after a friend recommended them. They were creative with three styles (classic with pickle, togarashi ginger, and crispy prosciutto), but overall a bit on the dry side and not as flavorful as we expected. We asked for Dijon, but they don't have it. Our server suggested and brought out the Baja dipping sauce instead, which did pair well and kind of improved them. My husband had the fish and chips and really enjoyed it. He said the fish was flaky and well cooked. I ordered the Union grilled cheese, which unfortunately seemed like it had been sitting a bit before being served, as the bottom was soggy. It was just okay overall and not particularly memorable for the price. The sweet potato fries on the side were the clear standout. They were crispy, the perfect balance of sweet and salty and honestly the best part of the dish. Our daughter had the kid's smashburger. It was exactly that. Service throughout the meal was good. She was friendly, attentive without being overbearing, and there when needed. The main disappointment came at the end. When our meals were served, the server actually offered sauces at the table (ketchup, mayo, ranch, etc.), and specifically suggested items like the baja sauce for the eggs and ranch to us. Because of that, we were surprised to see several charges for the sauces on the bill, especially since they were offered and recommended at the table with no mention of any additional cost. We were also charged a credit card fee, with no signage anywhere (entrance, hostess stand, or menu) indicating that paying with a card would include an extra charge. It just left an unnecessary sour note on an otherwise solid, casual meal. Nothing was bad, and nothing really stood out as exceptional, but the lack of transparency around those final charges really impacted the overall experience for us.

Stopped by for a burger and a beer to drown in my solitude. Had great service. Prompt, attentive and genuine. Only downside was some pretentious guy named Jeff kept whining about the hostess and the service being "special needs" because he couldn't get his group prompt service under 15 minutes on a special holiday. If it wasn't for some derogative guy whining off the bell about how the service wasn't up to par every couple minutes I'd have enjoyed what would've been quite a depressing day for me. Other than that, burger was damn heavenly. Beer was cold and good. Service was grand. Some people just ruin it for others. Great spot, great burger, good beer and good folks. B.W.

The last time I set foot inside their Pleasure House Rd location was at least 10 years ago. I celebrated my birthday there as my friends were kind enough to take me out. It was a Sunday morning and I sought out a place that offered brunch. I noticed 1608 was open and decided to head over, especially since I haven't visited them in ages. When I walked in, I noticed their dining room is dimly lit - much darker than I remember. I was greeted immediately by a kind hostess and she proceeded to sit me at a nearby table and provided me with menus (one food, one alcohol). I took my time looking over the food menu, and in the meantime I ordered a pint of Center of the Universe's Bald Irishman and a bottle of Boylan's Black Cherry soda (they do not have a soda fountain). What made this visit memorable was that 1608's bartender, Hunter, was an old acquaintance from back in my restaurant days. He spotted me and came over to say hi. After my meal, I continued to catch up with him at the bar. His presence made a pleasant experience even more fantastic. I thought I was hungry, so I ordered 2 dishes - Smoked Ham Fried Rice and the Breakfast Burrito. According to Hunter, every item is made fresh in house. After biting into each, you could tell that's true. Both the fried rice and burrito were delicious and boasted lots of flavor. Although I prefer my fried rice a bit simpler (if you give me just garlic fried rice, I am SET), 1608's fried rice (veggies, garlic, soy, basmati rice, 2 runny eggs, smoked ham) had a lot going on, which made for a flavorful dish. I liked the rice and the burrito (Korean style fried chicken breast, scrambled eggs, cilantro lime, cheddar, pico de gallo) a lot. I didn't finish either because it was a lot of food (I really thought I was hungry, haha). But these leftovers turned into a fantastic dinner later on. 1608 looked clean and organized, although I thought it was a little too dark inside, at least for brunch service. That's not a dealbreaker since everything from the food to the service was as excellent as I remember. I hope to return soon with my mom. Regardless, I'll find my way back eventually. Thank you, 1608 Crafthouse! And great seeing you again, Hunter! JV

I ordered the corned beef and cabbage... man it's going to be hard to try other things on the menu because this was actually perfect. Well, one thing I would LOVE to see is some gravy on the mashed potatoes or even on the side. The potatoes taste great themselves but something in this dish is lacking diverse flavor I feel like that would have brought everything together to make it 10/10. I will still get it again though! Beware for all of my savory people... the cabbage is cooked to have a sweeter taste idk if I loved that but I added a little salt and it was fine. Carrots and mustard were great additions. Needless to say, I rarely ever finish my entire place and I stuffed myself full of corned beef to make sure I got every left bit. Can't wait to come back and try the fish and chips next!

I stopped in on a Wednesday around 3:00 p.m. and waited about 40 minutes for a table for one. One piece of advice: arrive a little before Happy Hour begins at 3:00 p.m. If you wait until then, you'll likely find yourself several people deep in line. Don't let that discourage you. Embrace it, because once you're seated you'll quickly discover that the wait was well worth it. The food is delicious, the portions are generous, and the prices--especially during Happy Hour--are outstanding. The Atlantic specializes in oysters, and their Happy Hour runs daily from 3:00-6:00 p.m., including weekends. We began with a Chopped Caesar Salad ($9). Every ingredient was crisp, fresh, and flavorful--a simple dish executed exactly as it should be. Next came the oysters: a dozen Rockefeller and a dozen Pacific. The Rockefeller oysters were everything you would expect from this classic preparation--rich, savory, and baked beautifully. The Pacific oysters, however, completely stole the show. Each oyster was topped with a delicious combination of chorizo sausage, pepper jack cheese, and seasonings before being baked to perfection. They were bold, flavorful, and easily my favorite item of the afternoon. I also ordered the Double Stack Cheeseburger ($7), and what a terrific value. The burger arrived piping hot, loaded with melted cheese, and accompanied by a generous serving of crispy fries. It's hard to imagine finding a better burger at that price anywhere along the Oceanfront. My wife ordered the pork, shrimp, and kimchi dumplings served with a chili crunch and ponzu sauce that tied the entire dish together beautifully. She jokingly threatened to drink the remaining sauce after finishing the dumplings (she didn't), but she did convince me to dip one of my fries into it. She was absolutely right--it was fantastic. In fact, I now regret turning down the dumpling she generously offered me. Part of the fun of dining here is watching Shuck-Master Slim work. He's not only remarkably skilled but entertaining as well, adding a little personality to an already enjoyable experience. From the fresh seafood to the outstanding value and friendly atmosphere, this was another memorable visit to the Virginia Beach Oceanfront. If you haven't been to The Atlantic on Pacific, I highly recommend adding it to your list. You'll be glad you did, and you can rest assured that you're helping support one of our outstanding local restaurants.
