This place isn't bad, but when I went on a Sunday evening, most of their menu was sold out. Getting here can be a bit challenging since you have to navigate through a residential neighborhood, apartment complex, and marina. On top of that, parking might be hard to find since you need to avoid any "Pearl" or "marina member" parking. While any grill on the water is awesome, this place was just alright. Lastly, if you want their full menu available, I would not recommend coming here on a Sunday evening.

Rum runners are best in 757
J David H.

Surf Rider Grill at Marina Shores is now open for the season as of the first week of May. They are best known for their rum runners enjoyed by the poolside bar. In my opinion they are the best rum runners in the 757. Bold statement, prove me wrong. I'm disclosing this hidden gem I've held off writing for over a decade? When I say hidden I do mean that. Set the GPS and good luck, it's tucked back in the marina and to access it's necessary to drive through a condo association off Great Neck. Parking during peak times is a struggle as is seating. Go early into open and your fine. No place is a long walk. Warning do NOT park in reserved Pearl parking. However marina parking seems ok, there is a ton! I have been a customer for well over a decade but would not consider myself a regular as I typically go once or twice a season. The fried food menu with a seafood focus is timeless. However prices have gone up over last season to cover exploding food cost, especially in seafood. So I've had almost exclusively the broiled seafood platter. You can also get it fried too! The broiled is a better value as it include a 3 oz crab cake for the same price. The platter includes 6 oz filet of flounder, scallops and shrimp for just under $30. They also have pasta and burgers too! It's a large menu. I think the overall rating is best summed up as a strong 3. The service has been consistently cheery by their mostly young female staff that are easy on the eyes. No sexist hate mail please. They hustle their butt off and do everything from order, drinks and clear. Service 4 stars Their bar area has around a dozen stools plus four more by the pool. The bartenders are women and do a fabulous job. As mentioned the rum runners are well known and often dispensed four to six at a time during peak times. Matter of fact I have a pic of them doing several at once. Expect some Jimmy Buffet type of music. 5 stars Finally the atmosphere off the water is relaxing. My wife and I get vacation vibes when dining. You can also pull your personal watercraft right up to one of the restaurants designated docks. 4 stars Surf Rider at Marina Shores is a definite recommend and I always do especially for out of town guest. My overall scorecard has them at a solid 4.

This place is about to get busy for the summer season!! Such a beautiful location and views. Since I came in May I had no problem with parking or seating. If you are on your way there and feel you are going in the wrong direction because you are in a neighborhood just keep going over all the speed bumps....you are going in the right direction. It was a beautiful day and all the windows were open. It was gorgeous. We sat at the bar. There is no HH and of course I wish there was a HH. Bailey was behind the bar and I remembered her from the grand opening of the Surf Rider on Birdneck. She is wonderful. Truly an asset to Surf Rider. We ordered some orange crushes and I had the special Buffalo Shrimp with Blue Cheese. My friend had a HUGE caeser salad with a very delicious crab cake that had hardly any filling at all. My shrimp were spicy but very good. They are currently working on the outdoor pool bar. That will be so nice when it is open. Once again a beautiful location, being there on a summer day will be wonderful. The only thing is that they are a very very busy restaurant so it's difficult to get them on the phone if you need something. Looking forward to sitting poolside with some fish tacos and orange crushes.

Ask the Community - Surf Rider Grill

What are their hours on Tues thru Thursday? Some websites say open at 11am, others say not till 4pm. Apparently open for lunch Fri-Sat-Sun but confusing info for other days.

I'm at a loss on them as well. I suggest calling first, businesses are all over the place during this work shortage situation.

Seems you cannot boat here anymore? Is this the case? If so that is horrible.

The only way to get in is on special occasions so inquire within or on the Sly Fox website. The staff were so wonderful and kind really catering to our every need. We started with Infused water and mimosas. The Raspberry mimosa was sweet and bubbly with the perfect amount of raspberry sorbet. The food was beautifully displayed in a buffet style. Such a great variety. Fresh fruit of all kinds, french toast, waffles and chicken, biscuits and gravy, bacon, sausage , scrabbled eggs, quiche, house potatoes, deviled eggs, and a charcuterie board . On the sweet side they had mini cinnamon rolls, danish, brownies, cookies and cupcakes with the galentine theme. They had chocolate and chocolate covered strawberries with pretty pink food grade glitter. Plenty to choose from and plenty to eat. We loved it. In order to get into the speakeasy it is tickets only. We are looking on their website for the special events. Can't wait to see what they do for another event style. This time is was a Galentine Brunch.

Who knows, maybe even a place to hold a small continuing education conference?? We attended the Galentine's Day brunch buffet. Tickets must be purchased ahead of time either in person or over the phone. It is a cozy, comfy space to dine and have drinks in a relaxed classy beautifully decorated establishment. The interior design emanates speakeasy. Every detail of design was carefully curated with the utmost intention. Staff was fantastic. Even though it was a brunch buffet, staff were attentive, friendly and frequently checked on all tables to address any needs or questions. The lovely staff were genuinely happy to take photos for us without any prompting. The flow of the buffet was perfect, and the food presentation was delightfully charming! There was a photo back drop available and the decor was so festive, and classy yet simple. The decor wasn't over the top , it was just the right amount of decorations to add pizzazz and celebrate with festive spirit. We all had a very enjoyable time celebrating Galentine's day! It was a wonderful event in an equally wonderful space. The music was on point, as well as the volume level. It was loud enough to enjoy the music, yet low enough that you could hold a conversation without screaming to hear each other. It was very peaceful and even if you don't choose a booth, the tables on the opposite side of the bar do provide some privacy due to the small partitions. The variety of food offered was just right (not overwhelmingly too many options and not too little options) and the food was tasty. It was an excellent first impression that left me excited to await what other fun events they will hold in the future.

Valet parking at the Cavalier - which I like. I don't have to hassle with parking, a set price of $7.00 plus tip to the Valet. Just part of the ambiance of the hotel. The Hunt Room's atmosphere is you Dad's old hunt club vibe. Pictures of animals, stuffed birds and deer heads on the walls, Leather couch and chairs around a fireplace, and warm wood paneling and low lighting. Very comfortable. Our waitress was awesome in every respect. She asked the right questions, made great wine recommendations. Her timing was perfect, very quick and efficient, and very personable. She was wonderful. We started with sharing the four Reuben Egg Rolls with Russian dressing appetizer. Crispy flaky crust with delicious Reuben meat inside dipping into enjoyable Russian dressing. We ordered salads and our waitress asked small or large. Once she explained the difference, small Wedge for me and a small Pickled Beet Salad. Both were excellence. For comparison, the large salads are a meal unto themselves. My wife decided on the Wild Mushroom Risotto for her entrée. A very generous bowl of rice, wild mushrooms, and peas in a creamy garlic sauce. She loved it. My wife could only eat half of it; the rest came home in a doggy bag. I had the pan roasted venison loin. Two big medallions cooked medium rare, laying on a bed of creamy garlic mashed potatoes and peppercorn demi-glace with roasted Broccolini cooked just right, wilted with some crunch still left in them. We both really enjoyed our dishes and highly recommend both dishes! We finished with some nice hot decaf coffee and shared the creamy delicious Bourbon Apple cheesecake and the warm Upside-Down brown butter cake which is suppose to come with mango sorbet. But our waitress agreed to my request for vanilla ice cream instead. These desserts were fabulous. Thank you, Hunt Room for a great 45th Anniversary night out.

It's located in the basement of the historic Cavalier Hotel which is absolutely gorgeous. Valet parking and they charge you $7 and if you pay through the app, it's additional $1.25 service charge. Like they aren't charging you enough for the food, now you have to pay for parking too. Let's not forget the tip for the valet guy too (deserved). The atmosphere is like a man's cave. Dark and like the name, "hunt" decorated. When you enter there are overstuffed leather sofas in front of a fireplace. Tons of photos of animals as well as taxidermy animals. Everything relating to hunting. The place was rather loud with a few large parties. To the point that my guest and I couldn't even hear each other. Once they left, it was nice and quiet, unfortunately, we were about to leave as well. I was told it's best to make a reservation, so I did through open table but I don't think it was needed at the time of our off-peak visit (3.16.2026). Service was great. The waiter kept returning to see if we needed anything and how the food was. It was our first time trying the Oysters Rockefeller ($18 for 6) which is Half Shell Oysters stuffed with a creamy spinach and applewood smoked bacon which were good. At this time, I had nothing to compare them to, but 2 days later, I had them at The Atlantic on Pacific and those were SO MUCH BETTER! A lot cheaper too during happy hour. I had the Filet Mignon ($49) - Garlic and Herb whipped Potatoes, Roasted Broccolini, Tarnished Truth Steak Sauce and Sauteed Mushrooms (I'm allergic to Mushrooms so I had them on the side for my guest to enjoy them). Very good meal. The Tarnished Truth Steak Sauce is so yummy, I could drink it. Complimented the Filet Mignon and the potatoes so well. The broccolini was also delicious. For dessert I got the Smore's Brownie ($10). It was more like a chocolate cake with marshmallow, Caramel and Chocolate Sauce and Vanilla Ice Cream. It was not worth the money or the calories. Pretty tasteless. You need walnuts in a Brownie or it's just chocolate cake. I had gotten a Reuben sandwich ($18) to go and it was very fatty like bacon. Unfortunately, it was a waste of money because more than half of it went in the garbage due to it being so fatty. I felt the place was rather pricey and if you are just dining there, I do feel the valet parking should be free or reimbursed by the restaurant (i.e. take the charge off the bill). I think you can find some more reasonable places and better food nearby.
