After dinner tonight, we decided to visit The Hunt Room, tucked inside the beautiful Old Cavalier…read moreHotel at the Virginia Beach oceanfront. Stepping inside feels like taking a step back in time. The Hunt Room is rich with history and timeless charm. One of the enduring local legends is that President Nixon burned some of the Watergate evidence in the massive stone fireplace. Whether the story is true or simply part of the hotel's lore, it certainly adds another layer of intrigue to an already remarkable setting. The staff was welcoming, attentive, and genuinely appreciative of their guests. They go out of their way to make you feel at home and ensure you'll want to return. If you're an Old Fashioned fan, don't miss theirs. It's made with whiskey distilled on-site at the hotel's distillery, and it was one of the best I've had in quite some time. Whether you're looking for a quiet evening, a handcrafted cocktail, or simply a chance to soak in a little Virginia Beach history, The Hunt Room is well worth a visit. If you've never been, you're in for a memorable experience.

It's located in the basement of the historic Cavalier Hotel which is absolutely gorgeous. Valet parking and they charge you $7 and if you pay through the app, it's additional $1.25 service charge. Like they aren't charging you enough for the food, now you have to pay for parking too. Let's not forget the tip for the valet guy too (deserved). The atmosphere is like a man's cave. Dark and like the name, "hunt" decorated. When you enter there are overstuffed leather sofas in front of a fireplace. Tons of photos of animals as well as taxidermy animals. Everything relating to hunting. The place was rather loud with a few large parties. To the point that my guest and I couldn't even hear each other. Once they left, it was nice and quiet, unfortunately, we were about to leave as well. I was told it's best to make a reservation, so I did through open table but I don't think it was needed at the time of our off-peak visit (3.16.2026). Service was great. The waiter kept returning to see if we needed anything and how the food was. It was our first time trying the Oysters Rockefeller ($18 for 6) which is Half Shell Oysters stuffed with a creamy spinach and applewood smoked bacon which were good. At this time, I had nothing to compare them to, but 2 days later, I had them at The Atlantic on Pacific and those were SO MUCH BETTER! A lot cheaper too during happy hour. I had the Filet Mignon ($49) - Garlic and Herb whipped Potatoes, Roasted Broccolini, Tarnished Truth Steak Sauce and Sauteed Mushrooms (I'm allergic to Mushrooms so I had them on the side for my guest to enjoy them). Very good meal. The Tarnished Truth Steak Sauce is so yummy, I could drink it. Complimented the Filet Mignon and the potatoes so well. The broccolini was also delicious. For dessert I got the Smore's Brownie ($10). It was more like a chocolate cake with marshmallow, Caramel and Chocolate Sauce and Vanilla Ice Cream. It was not worth the money or the calories. Pretty tasteless. You need walnuts in a Brownie or it's just chocolate cake. I had gotten a Reuben sandwich ($18) to go and it was very fatty like bacon. Unfortunately, it was a waste of money because more than half of it went in the garbage due to it being so fatty. I felt the place was rather pricey and if you are just dining there, I do feel the valet parking should be free or reimbursed by the restaurant (i.e. take the charge off the bill). I think you can find some more reasonable places and better food nearby.

I ordered the Sunrise Burger, subbing hot honey for the mayo and oh-mah-gawsh that was an excellent decision. (The burgers are a little on the smaller side, but I found it to be the perfect size.) I told my husband that the onion rings were some of the best I've ever had. Kyle was our server, and he was incredible--attentive despite being a little overwhelmed. It's darker on the inside because of the wood paneling, but it works for the saloon-adjacent vibe it's going for. Highly recommend!

So when one of the Homies told me about this place I was all in because - burgers - what's not to love. Barrel 17 did not disappoint; when i got there i realized quickly i was the last to know because it was busy. We had about a 10 minute wait to be seated but that was cut short by option to sit at the bar. The bartender was working like she had six arms. It was non stop; attentive, taking orders, making drinks, checking back with others, she was truly impressive. The places was jumping; it was busy, casual and didn't slow down from the time we arrived until we left. Parking is challenging, there's a small lot beside the restaurant and a small lot behind it so if you can car pool you'll benefit yourselves. Now on to the star of the show - the food! The only knock I had was portion size. In a big guy with an even bigger appetite and when i left there i could've eaten my whole meal over again lol. But that's also because it was delicious. I got the mac n cheese starter, the Beast Burger, tater tots , and the biggest slice of chocolate cake I've ever had. Literally the biggest slice of cake ever- twice the size of my burger. Everything was delicious, from start to finish and if i were a person that had a normal appetite i would've left full like my friends did. Will definitely be back!

A final note- the coffee was excellent as was the service.

We arrived on an early and rainy Saturday afternoon thinking this placed would be PACKED but it was actually not very busy - but it did start getting much busier, closer to the 4-5PM time frame though. This place wasn't as big as I thought it would be - felt kind of cramped...? It has a small arcade area, maybe 30 games or - standard D&B type of games. The reward zone was lacking some cool prizes so if you're looking to redeem something cool, you'll be severely disappointed. They have 4 food stalls and they had burgers, pizzas, nachos, sandwiches, boba, wings, etc. They even had adult beverages too! Prices were pretty standard. I was just excited that they had nachos :-) They also have a small jungle gym area - I think mainly for kids between the ages of 4 and 12 which was a nice touch. As far as the skating rink, it's not small by any means but it's not huge either. I was able to skate without having to dodge too many people. I am sure towards the evening hours it can get a bit crazy! I would love for them to take song requests which I think would be fun. Prices for the skate rentals was very affordable especially since it wasn't time constricted. Something was off about the vibe of this place for me - it almost seemed like it wasn't "popping" to me. Was missing the wow factor and I didn't feel excited? This is a cool place to check out if you don't have anything else to do. Looks like a good place to have a kids birthday party though.

Super glad we stopped in, the vibe is incredibly comfortable and cool and envelops your soul. Ambience: super cool, comfortable, a little dark, exposed brick walls with plaster patches, hardwood floors, heavy wood and leather furniture, incredible bar that is more like two bars in an L-shape with an unbelievable selection of anything you could ever want. This place is very solid feeling, you just feel safe and tucked in. Service: was fantastic, we met the executive chef named Ty who greeted us before we even sat down, just saw us sitting in the foyer bar and came over to say hello, very cool. We were greeted and seated by an absolute sweetheart upfront named Jackson and our server couldn't have been nicer, her name was Casey. Food: the food is all served tapas style, smaller plates, but well curated with interesting and innovative ingredients with beautiful presentation. Unfortunately, they were out-of four things that my wife wanted, she didn't want all of them simultaneously, she wanted one and they were out, and that happened three more times. Apparently, they often order in smaller batches and buy locally so sometimes they don't have as much as someplace buying in bulk, that's as much a positive as a negative, not a bad thing, just a bit of a bummer that she didn't get her first few choices. She ended up with the duck tacos which were good. We started with the brussels sprouts, which were also good and had nice presentation. We also started with bacon wrapped tots, the dish came with four of them and chili ketchup, beautifully presented, and rich, creamy, crunchy and yummy. I ordered the braised beef and fry bread and it was my favorite thing, very beefy flavored, warm and rich on soft pillowy fry bread with some cool crunch and crispy, thin plantain slices, very good. We started with a Chocolate Cherry Old Fashioned that was delicious. Overall the food was very good and the value was decent at around $12-$16 per plate. Overall: this was a really good experience and I'd go back to try some of the things they were out of and enjoy the incredible bar and stellar, considerate, thoughtful service. Definitely recommend!

Our server was Nathan and he was friendly and accommodating!! I like the amount of happy hour options compared to some other restaurants with just a few. We got burger sliders with fries, calamari, poke nachos, and chicken lettuce wraps. The calamari was ok but it was some very tough ones to chew and the portion was small. The tartar sauce that came with it was good and a little spicy. The poke nachos were decent, but I'm not a raw girly to often, so I'd definitely ask if it could be seared. I put it in the air fryer at home, and it was pretty good. My daughter enjoyed it!! The lettuce wraps were just ok, the chicken was kinda rubbery and chewy. The wonton shell was delicious though and the sauce was good. My sliders were supposed to be all the way with lettuce, tomato, onions, and secret sauce. But when they came to the table they were plain with no sauce. I started to eat and about 5 minutes later the food runner brought my correct order. They said they gave me the table next to ours food. So the waiter came back to take it back, and I asked if they'd throw it away? He said yes! Which kinda bothered me. I asked since it was going in the garbage and it wasn't my mistake, could I keep it. He said the manager wouldn't allow it. With inflation why would the manager rather trash perfectly good food? It makes me nervous when restaurants take food back. If it's sat down on a table it shouldn't be returned, just take the loss, because how do I know your not going to replace it and serve it to someone else. I'm not a fan of that!! I'm not accusing them of doing that, but that's the thoughts that run through my mind in situations like that. The table was spacious at the booths and it was clean inside. There's street and garage parking. We went on a good day when it wasn't a wait for a table. The hostess was very nice. She was cheerful and engaging! I'd go back to try other happy hour dishes. Check them out!!

It's the kind of establishment that understands both execution and consistency--two qualities that are increasingly rare and always appreciated. The shrimp and grits remains a signature highlight. The Creole sauce offers a restrained heat, balanced by a layered depth of flavor that speaks to careful preparation rather than excess. The shrimp are properly cooked, retaining a delicate snap, while the stone-ground grits provide a well-seasoned, creamy foundation. Each component is thoughtfully prepared, and together they form a cohesive dish that feels both composed and satisfying--an authentic nod to Cajun tradition without unnecessary embellishment. For those seeking a refined take on Southern and New Orleans classics, it is well worth the visit--and a strong example of the quality found within Norfolk's local restaurant community.

I swear I'm not making this up, this actually happened: 1) it took over 2.5 hours for the entrees to come out. One came out so early that by the time the second set came out they were already done. 2) The only appetizer that was ordered that actually came out, arrived after the entree was done. 3) One person's order had to be changed 5x because the waiter kept coming back to say they're out.
